and  can't decide on  the proper  cup for my   pumpkin spice tea!
I do like this  Staffordshire Bouquet cup  from  Johnson Brother's.

Or I  could  use  my  Fransican apple cup

or my  Syracuse, Portland,  teacup from   our  heirloom  china   from  Lynn's  mother...Ah,  Portland it is.....  I think I will use this  china  for my   harvest dinner  I am planning.

Time for Some Warming Refreshment

The rain just keeps coming down... the ground is completely saturated   from days  of a  steady drizzle and the creeks are a risin'!

When I went to Bible Study this morning I got rather  drenched  running back to the car and it chilled me to the bone....

Rain Model

Even though the colors of autumn  are   spreading across  the map,    it  really  makes  one feel   much more  cosy  to see the autumn colors   warming the   rooms of your home on these kind of days!
The gold and  russets   are  like  feather comforters    to the senses...
And as I  approach the  kitchen I am overwhelmed  with  the need for some pumpkin spice tea
and   pumpkin roll cake  which I just happen to have a bit of that left in the  fridge!
As I spy my  comfy  chair   in the parlor,  I know exactly where I  will take my repose..
Oh, btw,  I  have been working on  my desk top  trying to  make everything fit   in an organized manner....
 and so here  we  go...
today  I  am choosing one of my Bed and Breakfast  collection mugs....  They are perfect for a  warming  afternoon refreshment...  this one    I   bought last year at the Woolverton Inn in  New Hope, PA.  My plate is Royal Stafford... my  autumn go to   pottery!
And I just happen to have a  stack of lovely    fall  catalogues and   my  Victoria Bliss  to   while away  with  as I  enjoy my afternoon  reverie!

A Perfect Day for Tea and Thoughts of Something Yummy!

Today has been a lovely drear day... oh, you know the kind that brings a sweet respite in the August temps ..a drop from 94- 74 degrees.... and then around 1:30 it actually started to rain... a soft,    constant rain that promises to continue into the evening.... just what I've been longing for... and that makes me thing of a nice cup of tea....so today I chose Enoch Wedgewood, Countryside in Blue... but I also need a tea pot...

So  to match my  lovely  french country plate,,,  I chose my  single cup  teapot I picked up last summer  at the Bed and Breakfast at Lititz, PA.
here you can see the delicate painting on the side....  I may have to keep it on the counter for a while it goes so well  ...

So then I happened to watch Barefoot Contessa and she prepared the most awesome dessert I would love to have with my teal If you missed it today here is her recipe. This is definitely a keeper!

Easy Cranberry and Apple Cake
Easy Cranberry and Apple Cake
Total Time:
1 hr 12 min
Prep:
15 min
Cook:
57 min
Yield:6 to 8 servings
Level:Easy
Ingredients

12 ounces fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over for stems
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and diced
1/2 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
1 tablespoon grated orange zest (2 oranges)
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 1/8 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/4 pound (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup sour cream
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Combine the cranberries, apple, brown sugar, orange zest, orange juice, and 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon in a medium bowl. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the eggs on medium-high speed for 2 minutes. With the mixer on medium, add 1 cup of the granulated sugar, the butter, vanilla, and sour cream and beat just until combined. On low speed, slowly add the flour and salt.

Pour the fruit mixture evenly into a 10-inch glass pie plate. Pour the batter over the fruit, covering it completely. Combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle it over the batter. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean and the fruit is bubbling around the edges. Serve warm or at room temperature.

2010, Barefoot Contessa

I will definitely take this  to the next event where  food is shared!!!!

waiting....

Hydrangeas!
Hydrangeas blooming everywhere
throughout the park
At each turn another
Different yet the same.
Pale snowballs dot
one verdant bush
While another thrusts
her gaudy pink
pom-poms in my path.
A third holds blue globes aloft,
like a celestial clown
juggling earths.
Flat topped soldiers in
variegated uniforms
line one walkway
their soft blue flowers
intricate and lacy
undermining their authority,
while at the gate
spiky red giants
stand guard.

I missed spring here  on the home place   for a  great reason in deed.. I was in Ireland,   but   now I  am  awaiting  with all the hope within me   on  my  blue hydrangeas....   they   didnt bloom last year,  and the  blooms seem very slow this year... So I am   cheering them on with  posts from the past that  highlighted their   happy  presence in  our lives.

My  lovely bush from   a few years ago.. I love them no matter what color they choose to be... but  blue is my favorite!

Loaded with blooms.. begging to be picked!

This was last year's single bloom...
 photo 2013-06-21215911_zpsf265d45b.jpg
Other years the blooms were so   heavy  and  radiantly blue!

 photo JUneluncheon014.jpg

 photo Spring2012232.jpg
I love when  they beckon me through to window and   come play in their  shadow!
 photo Spring2012231.jpg
last year I resorted to silk   ones  to get through the season....   sigh
 photo Spring2012229.jpg
When previous years   they   were  invited guests to our  morning    soiree's on the  porch
 photo Spring2012198.jpg
or noontime luncheons ... they  set  such a happy mood  for us both!
 photo Spring2012166.jpg
It would be grand to hang them from the  doors
Spring2012118 photo Spring2012118-1.jpg
But last year  the silk ones  saw me through   my  teatimes

TEACUP~ Monthly Botanicals by Royal Albert       Teapot~   Purchased  at a   gift shop in  Gatlinburg  over 25 years ago....  no label
when I would sit and      think  happy plans  for   the  coming get togethers
 photo Spring2012127.jpg
remembering happier times when the  true  blooms   fought   for prominence with the tea  itself!

 photo Spring2012112.jpg

 photo Spring2012107.jpg
Was it the tea pot   that   spoke  loudest,,,   "don't you just love my  delicate lines!"
 photo Spring2012101.jpg
Or were the blooms    stealing the   entire show!

 photo Mothersday2012020.jpg
And then sometimes the   blooms surprise   me....  a lovely green
 photo Mothersday2012017.jpg
I loved them so much!

But this year...     not  much showing  even yet....  So I wait.

Steeped in Charm

Life gets so  hectic, doesnt it... sometimes, I  hardly have time to  get  it all done and  find time to rest and   just  replenish my  own soul...  but  then again, sometimes,  while in the midst of all the flurrying,  a  simple, wonderful pleasure  comes along....  I call them God's  special gifts  to me.  For example,  a month ago, Lynn and I were on a  trip  for a wedding and    we certainly didnt  have time to  take in the shops, but  while we were   out and about  just casing the area for goodies, there was a little Home Goods  store tucked in between  some  stores in a strip mall...  I  had just enough time to  run and  and  there it was

The gorgeous New Country Roses  cup and saucer  by Royal Albert...    Such a  sweet  and delicate pink  with    bouquets of  lovely roses....  who could resist?
Then  I worked a charity yard sale Saturday... I mean a huge  sale  that brought in thousands of dollars.. and when I   returned at the end  with my husband who was  helping with the  packing  away to take  the residuals to Good Will there it was  ....
Crying out to me  from the leftovers.."Please, take me home!"
The  most perfect ceramic sign, how  could a verified tea lover like me  turn that down...  so  what a  happy little vignette  these  items  make on my  side board.. even when life is hectic,  my  thoughts of tea  are  soothed  by the very sight of  my happy arrangement...

Springy Get Together and Plan

Last week I posted about  an Easter party   I, along  with a group of friends from church, are planning for  the Friendship  House that serves  the inner city,  including  many  displaced  refugee families in our  city....  I am looking  so forward to this...   our church has  come along side this ministry for several years and being on the Benevolent Committee of my church has  shown me the great need to  get involved  more personally.
So   I am hosting a ladie's luncheon this week  to  go over the plans  and  prepare  some of the items we will need.  So I    springifying  the house.....

I  shopped around each room looking for bunnies  who find new homes   other seasons of the year!It is so cold and rainy out today,  I am just using a small arrangement  I found on the hutch from last week,  but hopefully, I will have fresh flowers   on lunch-eon day!

Since this will be   a simple    spring  affair, I am just using the salad plates.
I love to use Lynn's mother's  china  in spring  with their  sweet bouquets..
 Syracuse,   pattern, Portland.
The gentle curves of the teacup  makes  supping tea or coffee  pure delight...

my menu Thursday   will include
Sesame Ginger Chicken
Sesame and Ginger Chicken

this dish reminds me exactly of the scrumptious lunch I ordered at Ming Tsai's  Blue Ginger in  Wellesley.
About Ming

Blue Ginger Chicken Lettuce Cups - 14

soy stir-fry chicken with jicama, crispy vermicelli

and green leaf lettuce

There  we rolled the  delicious chicken  bits into the lettuce leaves and ate the rolls with our fingers....  so  yummy!

I will also  serve  deviled eggs and asparagus...
then
Marinated Strawberries and Mango Puree Over Angel Food Cake

Just perfect  with  a    lovely cup of freshly  ground  coffee!
I still need to freshly iron the napkins and   to find my yellow placemats.....      still a work in progress,   but   it will all come  together!
