THankful THursday

I am combining my One Thousand list of  blessings  ( from Ann Voskamp's book)  with Thankful Thursday from now on.
846.  So much to be thankful for  just in looking out the window...seeing the maples finally decide to  change their leaves is a blessing...
even some gold in the oaks!

The Lord tells us  in his Word there is a time, a season or everything under heaven...seeing his  miracle of  order  take place  gives us hope and  bolsters our faith that He is the one who is in control!!
847.  How could I not be  thankful for my  precious hubs who is making homemade waffles and  frying up bacon for our morning repast!!! ummm, I wish you could smell the kitchen!!!

848. I am so thankful that my cataract/glaucoma/astigmatism surgery took so well... I had a fine report yesterday and will be doing the other eye  after Thanksgiving!
849.  We are extremely blessed by our  beautiful granddaughters, Birdie and  Lady Bug...  even though we live hundreds of miles apart, we get to face time regularly  and  she sends us the most fun photos  ..  I love digital photography....  a  marvelous wonder of this age!!!
Here they are Mommy's little shopper helpers  at the market...  always  excited about the crustaceans!

850.  Another  item I  love  in this new age of   technology is found in the dairy case.
I absolutely  am giddy over  Salted Caramel  Natural Bliss..
made with natural ingredients and is sooo  tasty, especially in autumn!!!

851.  One thing I have noticed which is quite an epiphany for me... now that the kitchen and bath have been updated,  the  rooms  all painted and  old carpets  are  gone and new  rugs in place...  now when I go shopping at Lowes  with Hubs   for  a flashlight battery,  I am  completely satisfied to sit in the car.. There is not one single thing in Lowes  that I think I will ever need...  The same is true with clothing.. I get  scads of catalogs,  but now that I've  cleaned out my closet.. nothing in any catalog draws my attention...I am perfectly content in my circumstance and wants... it is  such a  glorious  feeling!!!  Thank you, Lord!!!

852.  I am  so blessed to be doing Community Bible Study..our  book is Isaiah....  It isn't exactly easy...  the homework can be  time consuming and sometimes pretty  complex... but I love it so much..  I love my small group of ladies...  we are from all  walks of life,  all ages,,  and  we learn so much from each other..with so much terrible stuff happening all around us  in the news...    things that almost seem impossible to rectify.. God's promises in Isaiah  truly  help  us to know we can trust Him in all things..  He has a plan and it will come to be.. He has  a purpose and it will      stand!!!
Image result for power in the scriptures
853. These couple of weeks  before me     I  sort  had a dread about because two  of our  "couple friends"  are  vacationing at the beach  and  their loss is felt  in the heart,  in the  church and    and  in the mind...but  the lord  is  amazing.. how he cares  for us even in such small things...just last week.. a lady whom  I  barely know  but whom I have always admired for her faith and  strength of character  approached me in a meeting and told me how much my face book posts meant to her...  this week she  has  communicated back and forth with me  so much and  we are probably  planning next week to get together for coffee and  a nice get to know you chat...  every time I see her  comment on a post  I smile and feel a fulfilling  warmth that covers  the tinges any other losses..Jehovah Jireh  , He who supplies our needs  never lets us down...  Lord God,  You are awesome and I love you!!!  and now I must attend to this!!!

Happy Homemaker Monday

Click here to return to our hostess, Sandra!
The weather outside is::::
We had frost last night with temps in mid-thirties...  definitely coat/scarf/gloves weather when we stepped out to  take me to the podiatrist...  golly, it had been three months since my last visit. no wonder my feet were hurting me...  just didn't seem to have time to fit in an appointment!!!  I love my podiatrist by the way... with my crazy feet!!

On the breakfast plate this morning::::
We started out early this morning with coffee and my fruited yogurt... then stopped in for a late breakfast at Famous Anthony's for their delicious  specials.. I had  a sausage gravy biscuit..  tastes like  mom's, ....with eggs over medium   and  crisp bacon...now I'm set  til supper..

As I look outside my window:::
It is sunny bright day.. the trees are beginning to show some color...  many though dried up and just fell on the ground..  We will be doing some raking this week, for sure....  bought the bags this morning so we're ready!!

Right now I am::::
Working on this blog post,  listening to Pandora.. my Anuna   station...  at the moment Paul Cardall is doing piano solo...  lovely    and  next is Loreena McKennitt..She is  Celtic and does  dreamy medieval tunes  with her lilting and  melodious voice!!!  The song is  The English Ladye and the Knight!
As I look around the house::::
We finally got our new washing machine on Saturday...as usual we were last on the delivery schedule..  so  Hubs  checked it out yesterday and did a couple of loads just to get the gist of how it works...  It is a bit different in the manner in which it fills up...  new  ways to  become accustomed to!  Last week I had switched out clothes and the ones I had packed away  or put in the back of the closet looked  pretty sad,so I thought a fresh wash would  rejuvenate them..  so I have a huge  pile of clothing to  wash this week!!!
On today's to do list::::
Laundry...   tons of it
Cleaning....Hurray, we hadn't been using the dishwasher  for some time, until yesterday....  Hubs just likes to wash our smallish  loads by hand,   so today I will  do another  load and I will  wash some items that sit out on the counter  and get that  dullish,   dusty  look.. (  greasy?)  not really, but a film...  things will look  much better...  most of these items are stainless steel  so they will clean up  nicely  then I will consider decorating the counter a tad..Also,I  need to dust the shutters in all the rooms
In the living rooms....need to vacuum and dust.
In the bedrooms....need some attention.... when it is just the two of us they tend to collect items  that do not necessarily belong to them...
Cooking.....I bought the items of a lovely beef stew this morning while we were out.. I love beef stew  on these kinds of days... smells so good!!!

Currently reading::::
Bible~Hebrews and Isaiah  for various Bible studies I am doing
I have a new book to start..Another book by Raeanne Thayne.. I read her last summer and really liked it,  This one is The Cottages on Silver Beach. I have a couple of doctor appts out of town next week so I may wait and read it on the road!

On the TV today::::
Hubs and I are in the midst of watching the BBC series from 2006, Robin Hood , featuring  a favorite actor of mine. Richard Armitage,
Image result for guy gisborne richard armitage
 playing the really bad  boy.. Guy Gisborne... We have about 3 more  episodes to go and I can tell you now it will not fare well for either he, nor Robin....It will probably be a gut wrencher,  but  it really has been a  very well done  series... most BBC are, I think..  We take the series back to the library this week.
My screen shot of Guy  talking to Marian....

 Looking forward to this week:
When I go to Bible Study tomorrow I will be able to share because I got all my home work done...   and might I add  this study on Isaiah  isn't  exactly easy!!!
Then I  have decided to get my hair cut and colored  this week..  to tell the truth it had been so long    there is so much silver in my hair, I was thinking  "time to go au natural"  but Ive chickened out!!!

On the menu this week::::
Monday - beef stew
Tuesday - tossed salad with tostados and fixin's
Wednesday - turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans
Thursday - chili
Friday - surprise
Saturday - *Grocery Shopping*  good idea

What I am creating at the moment::::
nothing in particular

New recipe I tried or want to try this week::::
This recipe popped up on facebook and looked so good I saved it  ...
A big pot of comforting beef stew full of onions, carrots, peas, and topped with parsley.

ok... so here is my pot of stew
It still needs to cook down a bit...    I like the beef to simmer longer than the recipe requires...

Favorite photo from the camera::::

Days of Autumn are Upon Us

This afternoon I have redecorated the dining room with a mid October  design that speaks more to a climax of  Autumnal glory.... I do not celebrate Halloween so do not expect anything of a  "dark" nature, except I do love to use my black transfer ware in October--  actually through the coming holidays,  tweaking it just a bit as  we  go forward..
An over all view of the table  demonstrates the character I have developed over the many seasons... over time I have  somehow misplaced fall napkins  so it is a hodge podge of   plaid,  paisley, and solid brown which I think is rather charming...  tells a bit of a story of who we are and where we  are going!!!

My mother's  proud  cock heads the table all decked out in falling leaves and pumpkins  heralding the  season majestically!!!

I love the festoon of battery operated lights on the table with no   bother of  electric cords...

A mix of real candle glow and  luminaires   set a warm inviting tone!

 Makes me want to create a lovely autumn repast and invite some friends in to dine and make merry!
So  there we have the downstairs all  warmly decorated for the  coming chill days of fall.. they a re upon us as I type!!!

Weighing In

What'cha Got to Lose
Alright I  have been  bad,  but  truly... ok, last Friday I went to  breakfast at IHOP with  my best friend from high school... I mean,  you eat right!?!  I had the senior  2x2x2 breakfast at $4.99-- 2 eggs  2 slices of  bacon, 2 pancakes... and I really tried to  cut back on the syrup..   But I mean life does go on...    then Sunday after church 2 other couples and we went up on the mountain to a lovely country brunch... Well, now ,,, here was  biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, fruit, fried apples,  all kinds of pastries.etc. and the price was $16.99.  I mean YOU want to get your money's worth don't you!?!
 Hard week... But the Lord is good to me...I suppose...  on Monday I caught a cold...   didnt hardly want to get out of bed...  sneezing, coughing,  miserable...  for 2 days...  but!!! This morning I got up feeling  pretty good and  weighed and lost all I had gained plus .5 pound.. so 2.5 pounds in all...  Praise  God I am back where I was last Thursday...  It would be wonderful if I didnt have to be ill to cut back on eating...  but perhaps I am learning  just do not eat if you're not a bit hungry...  and stay out of the kitchen.

Timeless Treasure Tea for Me

I believe the change in the weather has  brought out a  virus for me...  Just not up to snuff today and I should be at Bible Study but my head ache  just  wouldnt allow it... so  today  really seems like a  nice  cup of tea day for me... along with a lovely read or two.

Photos  from Pinterest
My book is Timeless Treasures by Emilie Barnes... such precious readings on  memories..  such a pastime   over a plate of  pumpkin bread and pear... and a warm cup of cinnamon apple tea!!  Just right for this  rather damp, cold day!

"Her plants... her books.. her writing desk..were all within her reach.. she could scarcely see an object in that room which had not an interesting remembrance connected to it. "

Jane Austen

Truly, for me, to glance about the room I see so many  treasures that came to me through my wonderful mother..

Her handsome rooster, one of which she loved to collect over the years.  Her maiden name being COX, she had a natural affinity toward them...  and the lacy cloth  upon which he proudly stands once graced mom's table!...

The beautifully crafted turned bowl  given her by a close friend  was  something rom which  I could never part...

"For me, a walk through my house is almost like a visit with a group of old friends. Almost everything I encounter comes with a story attached".
Emilie Barnes

When I look to my right I see one of my mother's  decorative wood items she and my dad were locally famous  for in the Mountain Craft Guild...I have so many of her treasures  scattered about in every room..  sweet reminders of my dear parents and their love for creating  lovely  items from the heart!

Beside that is the amazing gate leg table my grandfather made   when he started housekeeping  right after  WWI.   This is  probably my favorite treasure of all!  Haha, by the 1950's it had been painted and relegated to grandma's country dairy  farmhouse kitchen where  I remember so many family gatherings  huddled around it enjoying  meals  during summer stays..  It seated 10 kids easily...  when they sold the farm it was relegated to the  basement where we kids  ate all our Thanksgiving meals.. Looking  pretty badly when my mother  received it, she lovingly worked hard to bring it back to its former glory!

Timeless Treasures

I love them because they are old
But they never get old to me..
Each one is wrapped in a story.
And tied with a memory.
...
It was love that made them heirlooms
And not just antiques you can see.
 And it's the unbroken bonds of love
 That are real timeless treasures to me!.
Sandy Clough

These pears  are just  ripe enough to taste  perfectly  tart with a  zing of sweetness for me

Mustn't allow the pumpkin bread to lose its warmth...  so tasty with a piping hot cup of tea!
My cup is a collectible mug.. we purchased this one at Swiss Woods Bed and Breakfast in Lititz, Pa.  which is exactly half way to our daughter's home in Ma!
