Independence Day Dinner

lPreview
Let's Dish is a fun  mid week theme and  one I  am delighted to share on today  for   Independence Day!
As  stated previously  Lynn and I are celebrating  rather low key today,,  partly because  it is so very hot outside, and  because   there are  still 23,000 in our  community   who a re stuggling  with no  a/c or power today...    but  since  we did enjoy  a nice  festive  holiday  dinner,,  I would like to share about it...
alas, my beautiful hydrangea is suffering the ill effects of 100+ degree days so I am using my silk arrangement..

oops, I forgot the napkins. hehehehe

Always so happy to use my South Hampton china from Mikasa and the ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS Flatware vintage 1876 is a happy accoutrement with any setting!

A simple square of red gingham tops my more formal tablecloth and makes an easy and very inexpensive covering adding just enough color and attitude to the anbiance! Gives it a bit of a picnic flavor!

Flameless candles give off just enough sparkle yet keep us ever mindful of the cooling a/c we are so very appreciative of this week!

So what was the menu?

Barbecued Chicken strips

Tomato mozzarella cheese salad

Mom's famous potato salad

A lovely cold fruited melon salad

deviled eggs

This rather old fashioned menu brought Lynn and I happy memories of Fourths we had celebrated years ago with friends and family!

And after all that is what holidays are all about!

May Breakfast Al Fresco

A Delightsome Life
This morning  I am  celebrating a return to loveliness    with more time spent  on the porch.....   the weather has been perfect....   cool and  temperate in the mornings... not muggy...  no insects....   jsut  a lovely time to spend with the birds!!

So looking out the screen door   I see a table set for two....
 upon a closer inspection...

it looks like a bit of morning repast....

Pairing the black and white Royal Stafford, The Herdsman, pattern   is a striking  contrast to the  pale green cloth and delicate posies...   but the black  coordinates well with the wrought iron...

Keeping it  simple with the ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS Flatware

I never tire of  my latest pattern....  so  perfectly balanced and    weighty in the hand...  the  patina  and lustrious shine  yet simple pattern   compliments  every setting!

A lovely opportunity to   try out  my  baked eggs  and  freshly picked home-grown strawberries!

as well as  delight in the  ethereal beauty of the  rose and peony    flowers,  one last time  for this  season!

Messianic Passover Seder Table

Photobucket
It's Wednesday   and time to visit Cuisine Kathleen for ~ Let's Dish!
Last year we celebrated    our Messianic Passover Seder meal    in the sunroom....     and it was a larger family gathering..
Photobucket
The dark loden  green linen  cloth seemed to set off the antique  Syracuse Portland patterned china we  had previously inherited from Lynn's mother...      it was also  a nice backdrop for the  taffeta table runner our daughter had given me for my   recent  birthday  ...     Since it was  a  formal  presentation  and  program  meal it seemed appropriate to use my wedding silver...  my Joan of Arc pattern...  The Seder meal    uses ceremonial wine  throughout the program  so  I enjoyed using my German wine glasses  we purchased   in 1973 when we lived in Mannheim for a year..    the live lilac and  tulips  offset the  floral pattern in the  china and a welcoming  tablescape   set the tone for our inspirational  meal... This year  the table is still in development....     God bless  any who happen to visit....
