Friendship

Let's talk about friendship.
1. Do you have or have you had a special or best friend or do you consider all your friends the same? This may seem sort of odd, but I have very special friends for different things in my life! First, of all, Gerri is my dearest friend with whom her husband, David,...
... and the two of us share our adventures together. We go to the same church, and dine out afterwards every Sunday as we are able! We share all our best secrets and really just enjoy being together!! We go to the beach with them on occasion.. and I love that!!
Then there is Dottie, who is actually a neighbor of Gerri's, but I've know Dottie for over a decade. She and I are pretty much on the same page spiritually.. We have travelled to various church events and seminars, and conferences. She and I love to get together for tea, and we talk about pretty high level spiritual topics! I have grown a lot knowing Dot! Then Dottie and I formed a prayer team along with Lynne and Judy several years ago and we have gotten together to pray and share each others lives for almost a decade.. We took a hiatus during covid and just recently started getting together again. They actually took me to lunch on my birthday, which we used to do for each other every year!. It is so wonderful to be together again!
This photo was taken 2013 for my birthday and shown behind me from l-r is Lois, now in retirement home, Dottie, Lynne, Colleen , moved to Utah, and Judy.We are delighted that Gerri is adding to our group. We feel that corporate prayer is so very important!2. Many in the past had close relationships and fell in love through letters. What do you think of online friendships.. are they real ? I met an older gentleman back in the days of Farmtown. I really enjoyed striking up conversations with other farmers Ivan was from Sweden and he was a dear soul, but for a very sad reason was an atheist. After many long talks I was able to break through to him soon before he passed away from cancer.. I led him back to Christ. I also, had a friend from Britain that I was able to discuss spiritual things which and helped him a lot when his father passed. I think I laid a good Christian foundation for him but we haven't spoken since covid. Are their friends who last a lifetime? I met a nice gentleman from Illinois who enjoyed talking politics with me. We still chat back and forth at times..
3. Are there stories, movies or TV programs that you enjoyed because of the friendship or relationship portrayed in it? too many to think of actually.. I loved movies where the duo start out at odds and then finally come together. One of my favs of this kind was The Good Bye Girl.I bet I went to the theater to see it 10 times! I love the long distance romance of Sleepless in Seattle, I suppose relationships that go through some sort of fire appeal to me.. Now what does that say about me?!?!
4. What does friendship mean to you?Friendship is so multifaceted I was at a loss for where to begin so I cheated! I looked this up! “What is the true meaning of friendship? Friendship is a state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people. In all cultures, friendships are important relationships throughout a person's life span.” I have to agree with this and say that friends also are a great gift from the Lord. I believe we were created to be social, and ,mainly, so we would be able to share the truth of Christ with others. I am so blessed that all of my friends know the Lord. And that we share with one another in understanding God’s Word in deeper ways. I suppose I am drawn to Christians, but I know we are called to make friends from all walks of life that we might lead some to Christ. I suppose that is why I struck up conversation online. It is much easier to talk about faith when you have a bit of time in between sentences to frame what you want to say. I wish I could talk to some beloved family members, but try as I might I usually get shot down and back away! Yet these are the folks I really hate to see are remaining lost to understanding faith!
