Things do not always go the way you have really wished and prayed for... for me it is the local election. I will admit that I am pretty sure that the evils of our city are due in part to the manner in which our local government does its business It breaks my heart. because I remember the good ole days, too well. But not only did the city not turn around, but it even slipped lower in my estimation because of some character issues of newly elected members.. I went to bed feeling so bad I was crying out to the Lord, "WHY?"
I know there were godly people running to replace... I knew that many across the area were praying for positive change.... just like in many cities across our land.. many have awakened crying out Why??? But you know what? Even if we donated more and spent more... or spent more hours or even prayed more .. nothing we could have done would have brought the change we were seeking. because God....!
God is our Creator, or Justifier, our Omnipotent king, our Omnipresent, Omniscient, mighty One who is sovereign over all. He is unchangeable, unwavering, and undeniably involved in His Creation and everything that happens is by His direct or indirect will. And His will is to see a change in His children.
So knowing that then, our "Why" must turn into a "What"! So Lord, What should we do now? Because ultimately everything He can do in our circumstances must be accomplished through His people.. His Image bearers who go about affecting positive change by their presence, their actions, their love, their commitment to serve, their love of God, their love of mankind, their express will to be so Christlike that they do what they saw Him doing in His 33 years on earth! We sigh, because it is a huge calling.. and if we are honest we admit we haven't done a great job of it so far.. and we look up to God and see Him waiting... and we bow our heads with a bit of a sob for ourselves, but even more a sorrow that we have let Him down yet once again, and we realize we have the city, the state, the country we deserve. because of our lack of obedience to His Word, Will, and commands. We are a stiff necked people.. We start out to be more obedient children, but we are weak, and soft, and I hate to continue down the line, because it just gets worse and worse.. So we take a deep breath and breathe in the scent of the Spirit that is swirling about us, if we are truly His children and we purpose to do better by the power of that Spirit in us.. and with His help we will find our niche in His kingdom work. But we do have to purpose.. we have to step into the rushing Jordan and watch the water recede..Song writers have given us songs to build us up and help us to put one foot in front of the other to begin the work of bringing God to the neighborhood, the village, the town, .. let's just concentrate on that for now!!! Let's sing!
