The Simple Woman Day Book

For Today~ May 15, 2017

 Out my window...
Sun, sun, sun!!!

I am thinking...
about how wonderful my Mother's Day Saturday was....  one of those impromptu days  with nothing planned,   but  it ended up being  completely  wonderful  and encompassed  a  quarter of our state!!!
This  gorgeous view across the Shenandoah Valley to the  Blue Ridge Mountains  was    taken from Milmont Nursery's parking lot  in Stuart's Draft, Va.  This area is known for its  Amish  farms  and  pristine beauty!

The nursery was in full swing with Mother's Day shoppers.. and they  were in grand supply...!   Gorgeous!!!

I am thankful..
for my dear husband  who at this moment is mowing  our  .75 of an acre... and he really doesn't exactly feel like it.. I wish  he could be  persuaded to  wait until  another day...   but alas,  the temps will only be hotter  later in the week..    This is the part I don't like about   this age!!  Thankfully,  he just stopped  and will finish on another day!!!
I am wearing...
blue  dress carpi's,  and  new  blue and  white  top... We had a church meeting earlier...

I am watching.....
The Great British Baking Show..on BBC (Netflix)
Image result for great british cooking show

I am  reading...
need to get back into   the Jan Karon book  I almost started last week..
Some where Safe with Somebody Good

I am listening to...
Pandora..   Scottish  melodies!

I am hoping...
to set up the  bathroom plumbing and  tiling job  this week  with  the plumber we  finally have  found...

I am learning...
that  God has my back,,  all the time!!!

In the kitchen...
today  I am delighted that  we were able to pick up   Hub's  free  bbq from    Mission BBQ  because  of his military service...and  we  bought  enough  of  my favorite,  brisket,  for  dinner  tonight as well!!  YAYYAYAA

Absolutely the best bbq around anywhere!!!!

In my garden~
the  spring blooming   shrubs  have   finished  and now it is  the potted  plants  that are trying to  take hold...
but the  radiant yarrow and     Knock Out Roses  are  shining!

A trio of quotes by  C.S. Lewis
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: What! You too? I thought I was the only one.

Closing Notes
God bless you all and  enjoy  these  beautiful late May Days!

The Simple Woman's Day Book

For Today..January 2, 2017
Outside my window...
Mild... dreary...wet

I am thinking...
This has been a strange    past  few weeks...  first Lynn had the flu..  then I  did,, and  neither one of us  are still 100%... is it our age.. or is it just  a  bad  strain of  infuenza....  Lynn and I are both thinking    age  has a lot to do with it.. BAH!

I am thankful...
for the beginning of  this new year...  and I am trusting that God is in His heaven  working everything for our good..trusting with faith and humility..

I am wearing...
my long maxi house dress... it is a step up from my  terry cloth robes...  I needed a change!!!!

I am creating... well, my creating juices are  fairly  depleted..  but,  as I look around the house...  it is time to  phase out Christmas to winter....  so  bit by bit this week I hope to make the transformation.

I am wondering..

If we will have facetime today... I havent   spent much time with them at all this season.. they had  the other  side of the family with them  for the last couple of weeks...  so I am  eager to catch up!!
I am reading::

I am beginning a  Daily Reading of the  Bible  Schedule this year with  our church... I choose  a chronological  schedule  this time.

I am learning...

that  satisfaction with  circumstances  is  what peace is all about...
comes with   truly knowing.. not  just paying lip service,  but knowing God is in control!

I am hoping...

that this is the week  we both start feeling  really good and strong again.... I actually thought getting back to blogging might help me  re-establish  my routine..  and  having a  good focus is helping!!

In my garden...

Dearest   cut back all the dead  mums in the back garden..  it looks  ready for its long winter's nap!

In my kitchen...

mainly menu planning and eating light this week...perhaps a bit of baking!

A favorite quote/scripture for today...
I saw this on facebook this morning and thought it was  great.. I love Ann Voskamp

One of my favorite things...
Ann also had  this  calendar  to  use this month... on giving...

The Simple Woman Daybook

For Today~ May 31, 2016

Outside my window~
it  was wonderful to return home  yesterday  evening  after  a  9 day   trip...   granted...  the  time spent with  our  children was  fabulous.. but the  4 days in route  is rather grueling!  Then this morning  when I stepped out into our garden..  I  was praising  God , He is so good...even if we aren't here to  care of our planting...   He is the master gardener!

and our neighbor's  day lilies are  a blaze!

I am thinking~
how very blessed we are  in our  precious family...

We  had driven to Boston area  to spend a few days  while we  helped  the kids  pack up their household...  They are moving form the condo to a lovely home in  a  wonderful community near them...we are so excited because closing is this week..  and the move  to come shortly thereafter....  such an exciting time for their  beautiful family...  As busy as we were we took time on Sunday to  drive into  Boston  for church...therein lies  an integral part of God's blessing that  they a re  grounded in  His  Word and   dedicated to His Kingdom!

I am thankful~
our  precious love bug
and beautiful  Birdie!!
My favorite things~
I love listening to music  as I blog...  I   really  enjoy  Pandora.. I created  a  station of Celtic music  that truly inspires me...  right now I am listening to
Songs of Sanctuary..  Adiemus

I am wearing~
still in my pajamas...  yikes!

I am creating~
a peaceful atmosphere in our master bedroom...
I need to return the  shears and  curtain rods I ordered from Penney's  and  place a call to the budget blind  rep in our area...  I want to order  Plantation shutters  for   the room  to block out the morning sun!

I am reading (read) /watching (watched) / listening to
{where you can share favorite titles, give a book review or pass along a current movie, podcast, music video, or television series you are enjoying}~
yesterday we stopped at the post office and  received our  mail packet...  and included was the book I ordered from James Robison's Ministries..  Jesus Speaks, by Steven Scott..

a review:

What Happens When You Immerse Your Life in the Words of Jesus?
“Jesus’ words can replace stress with peace, sadness with joy, confusion with guidance, and fear with faith. That’s why Jesus Speaks will not only change your day, but it can also change your life, your relationships, and your eternity!”
—Christine Caine, best-selling author of Undaunted

I am hoping~
to create a daily  journal habit  that will help to redirect my day  through  God's Word and  healthful habits.

I am learning~
to be more faithful

In my kitchen~
Hubs  got back into the groove this morning  and  fixed my  fresh cup of coffee and  yogurt cup.. that  sets  me on the right track!
Tonight for dinner  we will enjoy  crab cakes,  salad and  corn muffins!

In my garden
We returned home to find my day lilies  in bloom!!

A moment from my day~
The kids  took  us to a very cool restaurant to celebrate Father's Day, Island Creek Oyster Bar... on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA.

Hub's favorite seafood is fried oysters...
this was the place!

surely they could fry some up!
and they could into these  lovely sliders!!!

A very happy  Hubs with his  beautiful girls!

Closing Notes:
Well,  it seemed   I had put a lot of things on hold until after we returned from our Boston trip.. and now  we're  home,.   so  time to  prioritize and get  to work!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today...

February 29, 2016

it is 8:45am and   53 degrees....  I think   we may have turned a corner in the weather

Outside my window...
a  broken sky of clouds with the sun shining through

I am thinking...

I am sort of dreading the  hour of allergy testing  I have scheduled later this morning..  Hope I get to to actually see the ENT because I still have  a few issues  since the last time i saw him.

I am thankful...
for the saving  knowledge of Christ and    His  love and provision    in my life....  Sometimes  things  can  get  rattled and out of sorts, and then I  really wonder...  how do  folks with no faith  endure the  uncertainty of life... praise   God...  His mercies are new every morning!

I am wearing...
as usual... my pj's and  terry robe all day....  it is my  winter  retirement garb!!!!  Well,  I haven't had breakfast yet!
HEHEE   somethings never change!!

I am creating...
sorry to say my creative  gene is asleep  this morning...

I am going...
along with  my best friends to take    one of our  sista's   to her birthday lunch   this week...  to the Inn at  Sunnybrook

I am wondering...

how much longer hubs and I are going to feel rotten...  my allergies and sinus  crud and  he thinks  his cold has developed into strep throat...  bleh!

I am reading...
Acts 9
Bible Study   by  James MacDonald... I Want to Change my Attitude

just for fun.. my new Lynn Kurland  novel, Stars in your Eyes

I am hoping...
that  tomorrow  primary in our state  will  go  well....  my deep concerns for this upcoming election   is in part    probably  a reason  for  our malaise... Lord, have mercy on our nation!!!
May I take a moment and  add,  it is imperative that  everyone  get out and vote not only in your  primary  but esp for this election...  We must take our nation back!!!

I am learning...
to be content  with   my circumstances and  life.   We have been blessed and  I  really  want to  downsize and    enjoy living  on less.... we  certainly have all that we need... and  more...

In my garden...
  Hydrangea paniculata

Fire Light TM Hydrangea paniculata - 4" pot - Proven Winners

Now even though  I  just  spoke on contentment.. haha,,  I must  add  though that I do want  to get  this   shrub... and toward that end I  have been  seeking a good source... I need more perennial color in my  garden!

In my kitchen...
I have no immediately plans for anything special....

A favorite quote/scripture for today...

Praise  the lord for His  mercy and loving kindness

A peek into one of my days... today

Well, I just got back from my  ENT  appt for allergy testing and I am allergic to 21/28  allergens...  yikes  so I will be  starting sublingual immunotherapy  because I am not a candidate for  allergy shots...I just fixed lunch and  now I am    preparing to take hubs  to the doctor  to check his throat for strep...  while we are out I will  stop at the market for a few things   and pick up my  prescription  and come home and have left overs  for supper.... ...
I sure hope he doesn't have strep...    when he is sick,  I    feel  out of sorts....

   One of my favorite things...
looking forward to spring...  beyond  pollen time..heheheh
 photo sidesteeple.jpg
The colors of spring are  so  delightful and uplifting
 photo mothersday004.jpg
This next  photo was  last year....  This year  there will many more tulips and  daffodils...  lovely!

The flowering shrubs   bloom profusely  next door...   is it coveting to  want one, too...  yikes!

From the board room...
As we  begin a new month  I  introduce  Sweet Blessings.....Shannon offers  monthly   scripture  writing  tasks  that I have utilized and  they really bless me...  I  learn  through writing.. and  this  helps to cement scripture into my heart!!! The March  listing is up!

Post Script
So today is Leap Year,  the  29th of February...  Since  hubby is  under the weather seems like a  good afternoon to  watch the movie Leap Year again;...  I never get tired of it...

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY....JANUARY 7, 2013
(Hehehehe, no Christmas in sight in  the den)
Today is cheery and bright...  a bit  brisk,   but  the sun is shining and     everything is  looking   hopeful!

I am thinking..about meeting with the estate sale manager tomorrow....   it will be so wonderful to finally have the sale and hopefully   be rid of the   stuff and hopefully  have a  great sale for my parents!  We've been  dealing with   their home and things for a year now!

I am thankful for...  God's provision in all things  in my life....  Thanks   be to the Lord for His provision of  love   being  shed  among His children...

From the kitchen.  tonight will be easy
fresh homemade chicken salad  with a nice  side salad  and  rolls

I am wearing..black slacks,  pink polo, and  black  cardigan

I am creating...     a home that   seems  a bit  lighter and   less cluttered...   it is a good thing

I am reading...  continuing my Bible read through,     my daily devotional, and  starting   a re-read of My Heart is in the Lowlands by Liz Curtiss Higgs

I am hoping...   that  all my resolutions  will become so much a part of me that   they will actually  define  myself....      becoming   more  of a Bible Scholar  through   daily reading of the Word and   applying the Word   to gain in personal holiness!!!!  This is my heart for the New year!

Around the house....  Christmas is finally  gone and  things a re  looking  bright and  different... I like  it!!!!

One of my favorite things....planning.....   I have  several things  on the back burner.....   I keep shuffling them             a round... as I  hardly ever  have the luxury of  bringing anything  truly forward and accomplishing  things    in our own home and lives....  I am living  for   others   these days.....   but  my plans  are  evolving and   seemingly coming into   a place  where  fruition wouldnt  be   so difficult...  so , we'll s ee!

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Tuesday-   devotions,  meet estate sale manager,    marketing

Wednesday-  personal study time,   take Dad for labwork
work on blog/read,  work at mom's house

Thursday-  take mom and dad to eye dr  meet  Dottie, and Nancy for lunch

Friday-  prepare   for  the  evening ...   14  for  dessert and coffee

A glimpse into my life:
I am finding  purpose and meaning,  I  am  looking for the gifts of joy from   God,   I am   chronicling  my   adventures  with God....  I am   continuing  this  wonderful  God given  prayer  initiative with my   sista's   that  we believe   will  help usher in revival in our  needy city!
Matthew 9:38
38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
This glimpse  seems to be  a theme in my life  so   I see no reason to change it for  some time
