Tuesday 4 Art

Art

 Hosted by Annie!

Hi Friends and welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we give you 4 questions each week to ponder and answer.  It also gives you a chance to see how other Bloggers feel about things and an opportunity to make new friends.

This week let's talk about art.

1. Are you artistic in any way and if so, how so? Knitting, crochet, drawing, painting, writing lovely word art, home décor, lovely meals?  There are many ways to be artistic. I have tried my hand in most of the home making arts, I suppose my most efficient one was counted cross stitch, but that was years ago. I wouldn’t dare to try my hand at it now  .. my vision would probably be limiting, but I did enjoy it them. After retirement , I got into painting. I took an oils class and really got into it.

I tried my hand at English          at Bob Ross Class               and just at my art class
Cottages
It was rather expensive keeping up with supplies and I think Hubs was a bit concerned about how  much area in the home it required.  And the messy area lasted a long while. I eventually gave up oils, and took up water colors which I only do for fun now.  I love to do water color with my grands. Oh, I wanted to share this one.  I took up  art  at retirement   and  the same year Amanda left home for college.  I missed her so much so  I decided    to try my hand at painting  her from a photo!

2. Does any art hang on your walls or grace your tables or shelves at home? How about your front door or windows.. what about your yard?

We  enjoy  collecting art on our  trips.

We purchased these lithograph prints at Adare, Ireland

And this photograph  was of the Gap of Dunloe.. both of these  hang in the dining room.

We purchased these photos in Scotland for a   collection of the types of animals we saw. These hang in our living room.

I fell absolutely in love with   stone bridges  and found this bridge  at Fine Art.com    of a bridge we  travelled in Glasgow.  This hangs in the dining room!
Sorry for the glare..  not long after Lynn and I were married  we attended  an art   fair and met  the artist,  Lona Cox..   who   did  these  paintings  in and around Galax, Virginia..  home of my grand parents;..  and  Lynn was particularly taken by  this one of Galax leaves and other mountain flora...So  we had  one commissioned  .. This was our  first  piece of art!!It is in the den!

And this is a favorite of mine.    My 90 year old teacher was working on this during our art class She was   a bit flustered  with the colors and the light.  Said. " I do not know why it is  so  blue, it should  be a   rosy  hue. "  I replied  rather jokingly ,  well  I suppose it is  because it is really for me.  I love blue.   ON the last day of  art class   after  3 years of classes  she  rolled up the   canvas  and handed it to me.  I couldn't believe  it.   I took it directly to the framers and had it     framed  It is so special to me.  Dorothy passed away  not very long  after  that day.     She reigns supreme in the history of my life.  for many reasons..  Mainly, because she was an amazing Christian woman  who lived  her faith every day!
3. Do you have a favorite artist or artists and do you have a favorite piece of art? Well, Id have to say   it is "The Abbey",  by
Dorothy Boothe.

4.  Home décor can be art. When you  bought things for your home did you plan out the décor or did it all just fall together. Was there a theme? It actually just fell together.    I  am  very  British of mind now   and was not   as a younger woman.   so  many  artsy  things have come and gone.    I have  kept the ones that really register  in my heart!

If you are interested in learning about art, may I recommend Sister Wendy from the BBC?  Her lecture series on art is available on YouTube HERE  and are quite enlightening and entertaining.   She will help you see art in a brand new way.
