Timeless Treasure Tea for Me

I believe the change in the weather has  brought out a  virus for me...  Just not up to snuff today and I should be at Bible Study but my head ache  just  wouldnt allow it... so  today  really seems like a  nice  cup of tea day for me... along with a lovely read or two.

My book is Timeless Treasures by Emilie Barnes... such precious readings on  memories..  such a pastime   over a plate of  pumpkin bread and pear... and a warm cup of cinnamon apple tea!!  Just right for this  rather damp, cold day!

"Her plants... her books.. her writing desk..were all within her reach.. she could scarcely see an object in that room which had not an interesting remembrance connected to it. "

Jane Austen

Truly, for me, to glance about the room I see so many  treasures that came to me through my wonderful mother..

Her handsome rooster, one of which she loved to collect over the years.  Her maiden name being COX, she had a natural affinity toward them...  and the lacy cloth  upon which he proudly stands once graced mom's table!...

The beautifully crafted turned bowl  given her by a close friend  was  something rom which  I could never part...

"For me, a walk through my house is almost like a visit with a group of old friends. Almost everything I encounter comes with a story attached".
Emilie Barnes

When I look to my right I see one of my mother's  decorative wood items she and my dad were locally famous  for in the Mountain Craft Guild...I have so many of her treasures  scattered about in every room..  sweet reminders of my dear parents and their love for creating  lovely  items from the heart!

Beside that is the amazing gate leg table my grandfather made   when he started housekeeping  right after  WWI.   This is  probably my favorite treasure of all!  Haha, by the 1950's it had been painted and relegated to grandma's country dairy  farmhouse kitchen where  I remember so many family gatherings  huddled around it enjoying  meals  during summer stays..  It seated 10 kids easily...  when they sold the farm it was relegated to the  basement where we kids  ate all our Thanksgiving meals.. Looking  pretty badly when my mother  received it, she lovingly worked hard to bring it back to its former glory!

Timeless Treasures

I love them because they are old
But they never get old to me..
Each one is wrapped in a story.
And tied with a memory.
...
It was love that made them heirlooms
And not just antiques you can see.
And it's the unbroken bonds of love
That are real timeless treasures to me!.

These pears  are just  ripe enough to taste  perfectly  tart with a  zing of sweetness for me

Mustn't allow the pumpkin bread to lose its warmth...  so tasty with a piping hot cup of tea!
My cup is a collectible mug.. we purchased this one at Swiss Woods Bed and Breakfast in Lititz, Pa.  which is exactly half way to our daughter's home in Ma!

Sweet Green Memories

I have been looking for green transfer ware  for some time   and finally found a bit on Replacements,  but  only the smaller  dishes ... dessert plates,   and so  I got 6 of them....   then, this  spring I  found 6 cups and saucers,  so  I am  really quite  pleased  that  I can at least do something with  my small lot!  So I  brought together  a spring table scape  using  what I have and was altogether pleased as punch!

Pairing the dessert plates with my  ancient green glass salad plates   and  my  white  scalloped edge  dinner plates from Home Goods(made in Portugal ) worked like a charm!

I think  it  made for a sweet springtime  table setting..  My mother  made  the  table topper  for my  first  smaller table  with which we began housekeeping... I love being able to use it again...  so bright and full of  wonderful memories!!
I, also, was able to use  the wine glasses we purchased back in 1972 when we lived in Germany during Hub's  military years.  So marvelous to be able to bring out  items so  rarely used from   so many years past!  I just love my  green transfer ware....  and am storing it  right in my main kitchen cupboard so I can use it every day if I want to!!!
This springy table  really got us through those  late winter /early spring snow events that  kept a damper on our  days..but every time we passed through the dining room,  we were warmed with cheery color  and loving thoughts from our  beloved first days together !!

Yellow, such a Happy Color for Spring!

Yellow is one of my favorite  spring colors...like the  golden  blaze of  forsythia
and the glory of a  bed of daffodils

So incorporating  yellow into house furnishings  makes sense  in the coming spring decor!
Whether inside

or outside!

A research of this color resulted in some lovely sentiments!

""Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.

Yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment, and happiness. Shades of golden yellow carry the promise of a positive future

Biblically, this color is also mentioned in God’s principle in that: In I Peter 1:7, God talks about trials and purging. (The trial of faith will be more precious than Gold and be tried with fire).

Therefore, yellow is associated with fire, which in turn, has always been associated with the purification process. "

I live in an English Tudor home and as you can tell I am not a minimalist..at all.    I  will say that  a few years ago when I found this beautiful French tapestry  at Tuesday Morning, I was delighted because I thought it added  a touch of the olde world that I  find so charming.  But it also made the room feel  rather heavy, which in  the  fall and  winter  gave a cozy warm feeling...Last summer  I decided it was time to give it a rest...  and I had such  heavy  Fall and Christmas decor on the mantel that  the  fireplace still  felt anchored and   was  adorned fittingly... But then I was decorating the mantel for spring..at first  I was  thinking, "ok",

But, after looking at it from across the room  it just looked cold and  bleh!

So I  went shopping around the house and found this lovely  painting my mother purchased at a starving artist's  sale...  and  I really like the addition!
As you can see the  brackets for the tapestry  still  are in the wall  which for previous seasons were used to anchor  garlands  which  were very helpful...  I suppose it would behoove me to find a spring/summer garland   to finish off the new look...  but I love it..  the wall is  filled, but not heavily so... and it is  lovely to have a bit of my mom  in  the room with me!!! I did  replace the candles in the  sconces.. so  once  I have the new garland I will share the finished look!

Spring is Trying to Push In!!

Alright, yes, the reds are gone...except for my lovely  Valentine roses!

I am  looking so forward to spring even though it is  extremely cold today. Brbrbrbrb.. I have a very special cousin coming  in a couple of weeks and I  am  really desiring to have things sprigged and  bright  for her...  So  I've been  putting  all semblances of  winter away and pulling out  St. Patrick's and Easter.. well,   they are right around the corner...right?!?

My new spring color is light blue!
I  don't know about you, I always start in the dining room when I  go about changing the season and holidays...so for spring I love my
Johnson's Brothers, Vintage Charm  dinner plates matched with the   Portugese, Matceramica salad plates all of which I purchased  for a song at Home Goods (Love HG!)  The robin's egg blue  is such a fresh  and  springy shade!!!

I know hydrangeas aren't in season, but  they are always in season in my heart.. especially various shades of blue ones!!

I must mention the beautiful handmade, wooden  painted  bunnies were  created by my mother  several years ago when she was a member of the craft guild..  I Love to use her    beautiful treasures.. it makes me feel that she is  always with me.

It does feel  wonderful to have my new  vignette  complete in one room anyway..  but I am also working on the mantel..  still  needs something! hmmm!  For years I enjoyed my french tapestry,  but  suddenly it seemed too heavy  and I  wanted to lighten up the room...   but  I need something.  I may move the mirror back  to it's original  space!

I love highlighting our  princesses!!!

But  I still need to consider that blank wall... hmmm!!!
