A Blast of Autumn Arrives

fall%20clipart
Today I have taken my Falldecor
 to the next level..

Whereas earlier in the month  we  added a golden glow to the dining room  and  spruced everything with  happy sunflowers,,
A bit of gold was added to the mantel..

Today  as I was preparing  thoughts of pumpkins, mysterious October brought forth bit of the dramatic!  For October I love to bring out  my  black and white   transferware.. this time it is Royal Stafford, the Herdsman  with his sheep.

Over the years  I have collected  a lot of lovely  fallish  napkins, but, alas, I cannot find  a  set of six of anything so I made a mix and match  using the    very  quaint rendition of the fleur-di-lys fold..

Hubs even came through  the dining room and commented on how  autumnal  everything was...  He usally doesnt pay that much attention to my shenanigans,  but he  really liked it!

The drama continues in the living room!
We are enjoying the wreath I found at Plow and Hearth at a great weekend sale last week!

The mantel is the most fun to  decorate, isn't it?  I add something each week until it is over-laden with  good  things!!

A little family always finds it's way to the living room...
And now we even  have some autumn landing in the kitchen corner...I must be careful to keep  my "stuff" well out of the way of morning coffee preparations!!

Phase I of the Master Bedroom Reno

Good morning! Today I am posting on  Metamorphosis Monday  at Between Naps of the Porch. Around our house  it is  always such a  thrill to  see  a major change  take place....  our lives  have been  been consumed with  circumstances  for the past  several years  that  stymied the opportunity to update  the house... last year we were blessed to update our kitchen

This  spring we started work on our Master bedroom.
We  redid  this room  back in the early 90's during the  last  turbulent years of my career as a teacher.. the  dark  green  had a calming effect on my nerves...  HAHAHA...  and  made for a  lovely  sleep in environment on Saturday mornings  because  it was truly room darkening! And  then I was going through my  dark color phase  ...as several rooms downstairs are still  a  deep  red and I love them still!
But  now in retirement  we needed a  lift...so it was a great  day to see work begin to revitalize this space.  Thankfully, the wallpaper  came off  easily!

I have always   loved  light blue with   silver and    white... I gravitated to it  in every Houzz  photo...  so  that was my inspiration.  I was  loving the blue  immediately...

I was  so thrilled when I  realized I could  take  the  large  picture I loved so well  and get it rematted to  bring out the  soft blue tones in the sky!  The  silver tone lamps with  the  natural  shades  added just the look I  was  seeking...
I know that bookcase  doesnt do much for the room, but  as an avid reader,  I like having them close to me..

My daughter  had given me a lovely  framed poem that  speaks to my spirit,  but it did nothing  for the room until I reframed  and  matted it...  now it was  made for the room.. I found the sconces  at a consignment shop and  arranged with  soft  white  tones of  flowers  I really like the addition to the  scheme!

I found  decorative boxes at  Tuesday Morning's  to  hide away all of  paraphenalia  on the dresser... meds and  such!

and finally  over the weekend we found  the perfect  chair for  hubs to relax in...
I am thinking I need  a vase of  blue hydrangeas,  but  havent found  just the  thing yet.. I love having a reason to  peruse the shops.  I did see a  gorgeous silver blue woven throw  at Amazon I think would accent the chair.. my birthday is coming up ....:)

The room isnt complete...  we  need to paint the woodwork  and  then  change the carpet... then  have  plantation shutters installed...  So I am looking forward to sharing stage II  within the month!

After All is Said And Done

We are finally seeing the final touches to our kitchen reno!

I was  so excited to see Lynn  putting up  this light yesterday....
going from this    40 year old  recessed light  to a pendant  was somewhat tricky,   but  he figured it out   beautifully.. just need to  do a bit of final    painting and   filling in around the larger  square  hole left behind.

Yes,  we do still have our 40 inch  range...   too bad one cannot find a 40 incher in SS.  so  we  will  continue with   our   old one  which is  basically   fairly new anyway!
But  I do appreciate my  new  fridge and  dish washer...  totally silent!
Another   specialty item we have installed are under the counter lights  which are  so terrific... and I  have them on the other side of the room  at my  computer station area....  Don't have that set up yet... will  add an update  when that   occurs!
I am sharing on

One Room is Finished!

We started  out in May with  a purpose  and aim to   finally  take on the renovation projects  we  wanted  on our lower level English Tudor   home with its  small  spaces and  need  for updating...My  daughter  convinced me that   wide open spaces  were  soon  going  by the wayside  because  at some time  folks just dont want  a messy kitchen  full of  dirty dishes  to   be  within  sight of a  nice family room...  and besides,  our family loves having their own quiet  private  spaces to  veg out in....read a book, or watch the race or game on tv...So the  aim was to update the space we have and   try to bring it into the 21st century. The  beautiful sunroom   was  one of the main selling points to  us buying this home with its cherry wood panelling... it may not appeal to younger buyers,  but we understand its value and  love its warmth.

My favorite season    to  enjoy   out there is  autumn...  because  in summer, it is just too hot, and  unless we  turn on the expensive electric heat out there,  it is  really cold!

But an autumn view is   lovely!

But  a room   over  the years  can really   becoming   too much...  soo many  collectibles trying to crowd in and find  a space to shine...  It was looking more and more like  Grannie's  house!
 photo Christmas2009103.jpg
A  winter's view is   divine as well....
but  the rest of the year,  we  suffer   extreme  heat and cold in that space...and as we are getting older,   and  the everyday view outside  isn't  as  engaging  as it  once was to us...  we decided to make a change.
So we moved  everything out and piled the furniture in the middle of the room.

I am loving my new  wooden   2.5 inch blinds  so  sharp looking....   they let the view in when I want  view

Or I can  close them down some for a  bit of privacy and to protect the furnishings  from the   brights sun's rays...

I  have been  much more  discriminating about what to  put back in that room!!!Loving that!
And at night I will feel  like sitting out there  and not  feel  totally exposed to the neighbors...
I am hoping it will keep   some of the heat out and  some of the warmth in  during various seasons...  and make the room that much more enjoyable!  So there is my first room all done!!!
