No Place Like Home. Week 1 (part I )

I am delighted to be  joining in on a blog party  hosted by Sandy at  No Place Like Home to share  the special things  that living here  really make home  feel  really  homey!

Well, it is finally the day after Thanksgiving and I can legitimately be excited about Christmas.  I cannot think of a better time of year to be confined at home with just my sweetheart, than Christmastime.  The senses are so engaged and tantalized that you can’t help but feel love, cosiness, and hope for things to come.

Hubs went out today and purchased an early present for us to be able to really enjoy during the holidays. This cute Victrola multimedia sound system is just what we needed to enjoy the sounds of the seasons!  Listening to carols is one of my  favorite  Christmas pastimes!

We  do have our main tree up and decorated.  That leaves two smaller trees to go... but  trees are so important to  whole  climate of  a Christmassy home..It draws  you right into the room with its  warmth and  bright  lights!

I  haven't run across my  tree skirt yet,  perhaps it is time to make a new one to commemorate this year of years!  The arrangement below  seems to always be my first    project  each  yuletide season.. I love to switch it out  by the seasons and I    really  get my  love of Christmas   decortaing  in full mode  by starting small  but it does give a big punch.  Later in the evening,   I will plug in  its lights!

Hopefully, tomorrow I will have  another tree done and the   whole effect will be  so  divinely lit,  that  I might capture the  glorious  Christmas  love that  light and cheer add to a setting ...  that even when   we are  here  on our own this year,  we still  enjoy the majesty of the season in our  safe and  comfy home!                                                    I will be sharing more   on No Place Like Home in the coming days of Christmas!

A Little Blue will Do it!

The last few weeks have  been much like everyone  else's   hot,  dry,  yet,  humid..  is that  an oxymoron..  it is so dry the grass crackles and  the  ground is  dusty....  but the air is so  hot and humid...  it is  totally miserable for me...  I am not a summer person for sure...
Even Hubs  turns the  a/c up a bit so the  air conditioner doesn't have to work so hard..So I think.. how  can I make the house feel cooler...  I immediately think cooler colors...along with my decluttering  that I have spoken of heretofore.
So  I  have been shopping the house,  especially the  storage room  in the basement to bring out my favorite  shade...  of blue!!Well, I actually, got inspiration during my morning quiet time...

I just love my  creative  Bible where I doodle my thoughts and  favorite verses in the margins...  so colorful ad joyful...but the turquoise  just  got me in the mood  to liven and lighten up the living room  with  blues!!! I got my confirmation of the blue  when I  saw  the same shade in our  older style Karastan carpet on the floors!

And it was  cinched   when I got my  latest edition of Victoria Bliss  English Cottage magazine.... See  the  turquoise..  I knew then and there it was time to go house shopping!

There do you see it???   ON the cover...  then again on page 9.
That  gorgeous arrangement of  summer flowers all  displayed in that  dreamy turquoise  vase... I immediately thought of the  blue planter I bought last  spring at Home Goods in Massachusetts  that I never got around to planting anything in and it had ended up  downstairs  just ..waiting!
IN an effort to truly get my attention there it was again  on page 11....
I was immediately taken by the mere scope of the thing...  it was perfection to my  critical eye...  and the mix of garden flowers  so appropriate for  mid  July.  But the idea was  clinched when there on the back cover it was again.. as if mocking me...
I knew I could pull it off... I just had to  dig  around  in the storage room.  No reason to go shopping...
I had ample  blue hydrangeas  and  I could pluck a few Queen Anne's lace from another  arrangement  upstairs...  a bit of  elegance...  a bit of humility..that is what the article had said and I had it all at my finger tips!
Perhaps I took  the scope a bit too far.. heheheh   but  I love the trailing roadside  flowers    that  give the arrangement form..
From a lower angle the lovely planter comes to view...   a juxaposition of  regal meets humble.. I love it!!!
The cloth is a tablecloth folded over several times.!
I shopped the sunroom for the  blue glass  tumblers

the bedrooms for the pillows

The dining room  signaled to me    that  it  was  falling right in line..
Even the books  seemed to whisper...  We're doing our part!

From every angle....

A little blue will do it!
 To liven and to lighten

to   definitely brighten

my  own little  English Cottage  of a room!

Valentine Memories

I cannot believe tomorrow  is February...  the month of  love and  sweet remembrance!

And when Im in a remembering state    I  really  love  the  joy of  vintage  valentines... Why didnt we ever keep all those  sweet sentiments of  friendship and blooming  love..., well, I know why,   but it is too bad we  couldnt  have  squirrelled them away some place...  many of them  are  probably  worth  quite a bit today..  but even then, it would be a shame to part with  any of them..
This one is a dear tribute to tea...  and tea  was on my mind  today  as I dressed the mantel!

First of all, I had to remove all the wintry  decor in the living room and  bring out the red roses...

As I removed the  Christmas  greenery and  candlelight  garland  I thought  whoa.. time  for a change.. so I shopped the dining room for the  pair of small lamps.. That  felt wonderful to  have a  fresh  perspective...
then  I  dug out  my valentine  artifacts..I love the  velvet candy box Hubs gave me last year..

To  celebrate  tea  this week I  placed my  lovely  pink themed  Royal Albert  Country Rose  cup  under the cloche  at one end
and at the other end  of the mantel   my  precious  English Thatched Cottage tea pot  with  heart roses  above the door...  If I lived in England, I'd chose to live there  in a cosy cott  with my love!!!

So   with that  I shall  continue my  sweet reverie  with the  following Victorian  valentines...   that
spark    loving  memories of  bygone friends  and  special times  with  loved ones!!

A Snowy New Year Sets the Tone

Transitioning into the new year here  in the home  is made  simple  by keeping the  red and  switching out  a lot of the greens...And    having snow  inspires,  as well..
 The tree comes down
the ornaments are removed from the mantel
to be replaced with icy crystals

the seasonal tree gets  a  smattering of snow...

and  the snowmen come out!!!

The red and white is such a lift  for the after Christmas blues...

October Surprise

I  do not celebrate Halloween... but I certainly love October... I loved  decorating my classroom with  golden moons and  cats  caterwauling on fences,  I loved   fodder shocks and pumpkins... and  going to see  my dad  over the years after he retired in the country I loved arriving to see what October surprises he had created...living there he had access to all kinds of autumnal farm items..  bales of straw...   corn shocks.. you name it. and he usually had some kind of  scarecrow  that he created out of his old farm clothing... he had such a tender, merry heart.

Very reminiscent of his handwork!  Found online..
So I guess I would like to share my October surprise...
the fall fairy has  come and sprinked  a bit of  autumn around the house..

I exchanged  my  autumn arrangement  seen now on the sideboard

for my pumpkin pie  pumpkin  who doesnt know it yet,  but its days are numbered!!  hehehehehe
I am using my black transferware... by Johnson Brothers....
because they go so well with my   Thanksgiving dessert plates
Yes,  in November  my  decor will only require a bit of tweaking!
I love to use my  antlers  that I have been collecting the past couple of seasons...

This year I added the smaller  antler  wrapped votives...  all of which I find at Pier One ...
Continuing into the parlor...  I  see the seasonal tree is decked out for fall...

as well as,  the mantel..

wait.. what have we here....   an uninvited guest it seems...
Welcome , little fellow...
so enticed by the  harvest table..my little omnivore   couldn't help  but hop up there to glean and nibble! You seem to  be polite enough to stay!
