Simple Woman Day Book

For Today~ June 12, 2017

Looking out my window...
a  steamy, humid day is brewing....    not  so happy about   that...

I am thinking...
what to do about  my   badly blistered hand..  I burned it getting my tea cup out of the microwave Saturday....  dumb, dumb, dumb...  Hubs wants to pop the blisters on my  index finger...  yikes!!!

I am thankful..
that at least he is  wanting to do  what he deems best for me...   while I drum  up the courage,,  WAH!!

I am watching.....
I enjoyed my afternoon yesterday with Jesse Stone..   I wonder how many times I can  watch  it or the Blue Bloods  before I say, " aw,  I've  seen this one!"  It just doesn't seem to matter!

I am  reading...
Obviously Im not a fast reader..  still working on  Somewhere  safe with Somebody Good by Jan Karon
I take it with me    but never have a chance to open it..  but it  is great!!!

I am listening to...
Oldies Goldies, radio

I am hoping...
to get to visit my  Aunt Janice today...  we have a funeral to go to  in  the same county  where  she resides...  I haven't seen her in a couple of years since  the death of my mom  .  Aunt Janice  was  the next  sister of 6  to mom's age...  who  was the oldest. It is so hard to see  beloved family members  knowing it will probably the last time  you'll see them  on this side of heaven.Aunt Janice was  a home  economics teacher and   was  so crafty.  She taught me and  my daughter how to knit.  I'll always remember that visit  with her with  such fondness and love!

I am learning...
to come to grips  with the finality in many things in this life...  loved ones  who are moving on  to eternity,   and just simple things  that  were at one time cherished that  have  fallen so out of favor  they  do longer exist except in my memory.

In the kitchen...
nothing spectacular..  too hot!

In my garden~
This year we are  concentrating on potted   plants  all  around the porch...  My lavender  is  really doing well,, and  hopefully keeping  mosquitoes  away!!
I am loving my variegated  geraniums...
This  angel wing  begonia   is  very prolific this year!!!!  So showy!!

We just planted  more  lavender  across the way    and they  becoming well established!
I am hoping that  by midsummer when the kids  arrive  the porch will be a lush  haven  for dining and play!!
Around the yard,  hubs  used a bit of plant tone   to boost the blooming...

Things are looking great!!

When the  weather gets too hot for me   to stand...  I love  to break out  my favorite old films  that  move me..Click the link for  my  board...need I even name these  blockbusters of their time!!!

The Secret Garden [1949] starring Margaret O'Brien. A gorgeous classic. Begins in B+W then changes to colour in the garden!:   ONE OF THE BEST! The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara in 1952. I will never get tired of watching it. Ever.:

Philadelphia Story:
just to name a few!!

In research I found this lovely blog post
about whiling away an hour in a  Library...at home....  and  it  really  registered with me..... what a  great idea to just  peruse  the books on  our own shelves and  spend a bit of time in a restfully creative reverie!

For Today..February 6, 2017

Outside my window...
Sunny ......clear ......and mild!!!

I am thinking...
how fast time is flying by....  and how much  we really need to get done around the house this spring.  One thing is  removing the  horrid carpet upstairs...  that is  really old...  and  is glued down around the  walls...  I pray  it comes up  fairly easily... We took one  room up years ago  for our daughter's room ...  the other rooms  have area  rugs that  help,    but  time has come to get that miserable  carpet out of here!!!

I am thankful...
for reasonable health and  ability to do  the things  that we need to do...  praise God for his healing mercies and  provision!!

I am wearing...
jeans,   my  teal  blouse and navy sweater..  off to the eye doctor in just a few minutes.

I am creating...
a couple of  dinner party menus...  you know,, Ive mentioned before I have two parties to make up  since Christmas  sickness  .. everyone  we know was sick over the holidays...  The menus made sense then  but now  I have  new themes and  new plans to make...  but I'm getting there.

I am wondering..
if  I  have lost my mind or if my idea is  a good one..  I was watching  Valerie's Home Cooking  last week  and  she was making some  fabulous party food... some  marvelous  bruschetta   with  salsa crab  spread  on  bread  crisps,  grilled romaine with  amazing   dressings, Classic PanzanellaPasta e Fagioli  soup,  and   this  awesome Butterscotch Love Cake..  I am thinking one   dinner  would be a fun tribute to  Valerie's  love fest  food... I  wanted something different and    these menus all look so tasty!  Any  suggestions!?!?!

I am reading::
Book of Judges for Sunday School
One Year Devotional, Walk with God

A Thorn in my Heart, by Liz Curtis Higgs

Finding I AM  by Lysa Terqeurst

I am listening....
to    the morning show   on the radio...

I am learning...
to try to be more spontaneous...    after all we only go around once!

I am hoping...
as usual  to have face time today with our girls and  hopefully discuss our spring visit with them...  we haven't seen then since November  so it is TIME!

Our Love Bug has just  started walking.. and Gaa Gaa needs to  see her!!!!!

In my garden...

We just got back from  the Dr's office and  it is so springlike outside....  makes me think of  seed catalogues....  but no  plans, just ideas and dreams!!!

In my kitchen...
Chinese leftovers today,  then  definitely  something with Orange Roughy...    I  like this recipe!

A favorite quote/scripture for today..

I  came upon  some videos  regarding the making of the new film  set to come out in March...  I am so excited about it...Our daughter, Amanda,  was  6 when  the  original cartoon version  came out and  it was  our very favorite  Princess story...  We  bought the  video and watched it  so many times...  now the aspect of  a  live production  of the same story..  with very little changes  is  utterly enthralling to me... and  Dan Stevens as Beast  is   going to be amazing..  The good news  is I may very well be  with my daughter  when we get to go to the theater to see it  again!

My decorating style  being  Olde English  can become rather  dark and heavy...  especially during the  autumn and winter...  I love it..  I  think of  JG  Chesterton and  C S Lewis  coming together in their library  to  debate  their theology over  tea and cigars..But  with the coming spring  I  begin to think,  how can I lighten up the  parlor  and  brighten up  the  mood!!!  My  board on pinterest  has several  grand ideas.

A Moment in my day.....
A Moment of my  life
Well,  I should say in my week.. I have had  several  wonderful moments...  all to do with my  health... I will begin and  say  In this I give  God the glory...  Last month  my  dear friend  gave us  prayer gals a book on  personal    communion tips... and how  our mind set should be as  we partake the  breaking of the bread...  Symbolic of  Christ's body.. it is the   bread of life  and when we  consume the bread  we  thanks  God for His provision of health and  abundant life...  So  I have taken  communion  in this manner of late  and  I  was  praying  over my  particular ailments of  obesity,  Type II diabetes, and glaucoma.. Then  I  joined in a corporate prayer over  our health  last week  crying out  Hallelujah  knowing that  Jesus inhabits our praise  and to  claim his  body in  at the moment of  sing  Hallelujah...  I  was feeling a refreshing sweep over me..
anyway...  since then I have had  all of my doctor appts.  I have lost  about  8 pounds, all of  my  numbers from  my blood work are all  moving  in the right direction...  my  eye pressure was  wonderful today,    And  I am  praising Him  for his  loving  mercies!!!!

Glory to God in the highest,  peace on earth, goodwill to men!!

A Simple Woman Day Book

For Today~ August 22, 2016

Looking out my window...

Yes.. the  cold front that  has passed   through is bringing  a break in the humidity and  there is a crispness in the air....  loving it!!!

I am thinking...
how very much is hinging on this coming election..
in MHO  we are desperate for a change!  Prayer is key!

I am thankful..
 for God's Word..
openBible-600x400

especially, the Psalms like  Psalm 91.
So many promises  to rest  in!
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

I am wearing...
my yellow tee and  denim  shorts

I am watching.....

I am  reading...
and still enjoying my  Journalling Bible..
and studying 2Timothy
Beth Moore is urging us to memorize the book of 2 Timothy...  and I can see why..   there are great truths  there    to  calm our spirit in times of trouble!

I am listening to...
Terry Macalmon Praise  cd...  especially  the song
How We Need the River... this song speaks to me so much because of a  special and personal revelation I had of God   in 2003.  When we get a  personalized revelation of God our spirit  is so renewed  and  refreshed  that  life  as  you understood before  is changed forever.

I am hoping...
have  time to get out and walk  this week...  been putting it off for weeks due  to the weather.

I am learning...
be still and  know that  God is  there and  that He is GOD.. in other words ...  revel on His presence!

In the kitchen...
This week our Sunday School class is going to the lake on a  class picnic.. We always  grill  burger and dogs  and  bring side dishes and  desserts... Our class loves to   do desserts, so a few of us are determined to fill in the side dishes...  I  am making a large crock pot of baked beans..

In my garden~

I heard today that  the travel agent  at our church who  got our Ireland trip together last year is planning a trip  out west  for next  summer..  which would include  the redwood forest!
Ever since I read  a wonderful book about  the mighty trees to my fourth graders I have  dreamed of  seeing these  giants  for myself.
