This morning I'm sharing with Eileen's Saturday Critters party. I have so enjoyed feeding the birds and discovering new neighbors in the hood...I guess I got my love for the birds from my daddy. Dad was one of the most tender-hearted men I've ever known... He loved animals and cared for them all of the years I knew him! After I left home, he and mom moved back to the country where they were raised and took up a bit of gardening and enjoying nature.. He got great comfort from his two dogs who so enjoyed the free range of the country side..especially Big Red!
and later it was, whom I considered my little brother,, Matthew!HEHEHEH
Dad also loved to care for the birds..
These photos are from online, but are very reminiscent of his garden! He and my mom loved spending time in their garden!!!
Here on the home front we continue to deal with pesky squirrels.. They a re so smart and determined.. They invariably jump up on the feeders and juggle them until all the food falls out of the ground, great for the foragers, but I enjoy the feeders...We are shopping this week for a squirrel proof feeder if we can find one we think will work!
The catbird wonders, what's going on here...
Miss Dove is just as happy to forage,
Mr. Cardinal keeps look out while his bride does a bit of foraging..
and robin just enjoys his perch on the garage.. He is seen there much of the day!
This morning I'm sharing with Eileen's Saturday Critters party. I have so enjoyed feeding the birds and discovering new neighbors in the hood...I will begin with my favorite bird, the white throated sparrow... His song is such a wondrous sound to me... I am thrilled he frequents our yard now!
He is recognizable by the yellow bars above his eyes.
We ,also, have these frequent visitors, the nuthatch and the purple finch.
The bluebird likes to sup at the bird bath as
well as, the robin!
We now have a casual guest of the dove who who actually likes to forage around on the ground.
This guy and his compadres are frequent visitors.. each very distinctive. ... here the red head or red bellied wood pecker
and his friend the ladderback!
THis fellow is here many times a day now!
The catbird recognized by his gray color and darker patch on his head stops by several times a day!
and I love the chick a dees who are always welcome!!
The brown thrasher has marked us as a friendly spot to stop on their daily foraging jaunts.
The blue jays like to dominate when they a re in the area!
Then I will end with another favorite I think this may be a young male cardinal...
Our state bird here in Virginia!
I am ,also, sharing with Anything goes Pink Saturday because bird watching has become such an integral part of our day!!!
This morning I'm sharing with Eileen's Saturday Critters party. Not only that, but the sun is shining and all is right with the world... I do declare spring has sprung... No snow in the forecast at all!!!! And along with the turn in the weather I can introduce a new pair of visitors to the feeder this week!! Mr. and Mrs. Brown Thrasher!
I love their warm brown tone and mottled breast...
their feathers can look rather ruffed!
That curved beak and the two white bars on the wings will give them away!
They have become our new alarm clock!
As I type this handsome couple is nesting in the leatherleaf rhododendron bush on the fence line!
Otherwise, I am thrilled to say that the white throated sparrow has taken up residence nearby and his song is my very favorite of all!!!
Apart from their white throat, you can id them by the yellow stripes above their eyes.. unlike other sparrows that are white or grey. I've always only seen them foraging instead of feeding at either of the feeders!
Our regular crowd of feathered friends include the grey tufted titmouse,
The Carolina Chickadee!
The robin
Multitudes of chipping sparrows who desire to rule over the feeders.. they just settle in and rest a spell!
A rather crotchety jay! He really doesn't dine, but doesn't want anyone else to, either!
I love our mother Mourning dove... She holds court there occasionally .. I really think she keeps some order to the whole shebang!
The bluebirds feast on the plated suet... I need to change that by the way and put out some meal worms today!!!
A pair of woodpeckers are very frequent visitors...
And some varieties of wrens... house, ruby, and purple.. I really can't fully tell.
But I do enjoy my bird watching.... even Hubs is getting into it... I can not wait to visit our grand daughters who have established the feeder I sent them and we will do a bit of watching, teaching and learning while we're there!
