We celebrated Memorial Day on Monday... let's talk about
memorials and memories.
1. Do you find memories comforting or troubling?I do.
I have wonderful memories and I chose not to linger on
anything that was bad ... although I can hardly think of
any. We had a large and loving family. But when the
grandparents were gone every smaller unit.. the aunts
and uncles and their kids sort of evaporated into their only
family units and it was hard on us single child kids who
missed then larger family get- togethers. But you learn
to make do. Another aunt had one daughter so we joined
up at Christmas and I have wonderful memories going
to mom's and having Aunt Virginia and Jenny there as well!
2. Have you set up a memorial for a loved one or friend? I
never felt the need to do so. I have so many treasures around
my house taht reminds me of mom and dad and the grand
parents. Mom and dad were crafters who did the craft show
circuit. I have many of her beautiful paint wood treasures
around the house and the table I wrote about last week that
grandpa made about 100 years ago. So when I am around
these things sweet memories flood my soul!
3. What songs bring back good memories for you?
It would have to be the great hits of the 60's and 70's that
Lynn and I love to sing along with from our dating years.
4. Have you visited Civil War or Revolutionary War sites?
Being a Fourth grade teacher who taught history and lives in
Virginia I would have to say yes. I love history and even if it
was a time of strife, trouble, or dissension, as ugly as slavery,
we need to understand that history, as well, that we might to
repeat such things.
