Do Not Worry
Matthew 6: 25-34
Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
When Jesus spoke these words of encouragement, he already knew the trials and difficulties of the future. God’s word is a living word that is appropriate to every generation. So there is application for today in every line of scripture! One truth that is just barely inferred is that God vastly loves you more than He does the rest of Creation. In part it is because He made you in His image. And once you become a Christian, He, Christ, and the Holy Spirit came to abide within you. So He (They, the Triune Godhead)is with you every moment and fully knows every bit of the circumstances that come upon you. I believe, because His nature is to desire your love and faith in Him, that when you do love and believe His Word, and apply that Word to your circumstances then you absolutely can rest in Him knowing that He will work out all that comes against you. So the key verse from the above is ,But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well .
So what does it mean to seek first the kingdom of God, after some study on it I have come up this answer.
When you love God/ Jesus and treasure His Word in your heart, you purpose to live by that Word , choosing to honor Him in all you do. Seeking to take seriously the imperatives and commands, as much as possible. When you are raising a family, and working I know how difficult it can be, so in that situation consider the importance of training your children in the admonition of the Lord, speaking your Jesus story with your co-workers making sure they know you are a believer and not ashamed to let them know that coarse language or activity would be repugnant to you. Living a life for God is an amazing privilege and one not to be taken lightly. It is good to live in such a way that you are noticeably set apart. In that way your life style will attract the unbeliever to you making it much easier to speak life and salvation to them.
