Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. (Past hosts include: Our first - Judd Corizan, Mr. L, Kwizgiver and Bud) Cheers to all of us thieves!
These questions come from a set of "Storywise" cards that were made for Alzheimers patients. So let's test our memories as we answer these questions!
1. The strangest place you've ever been.
The first place I could think of was the day my mother and I went to see my Great Aunt Jo , age 93, lying in her nursing home bed, in a coma-like state, yet I truly believe she knew we were there.. Aunt JO had lived a wonderful life and her medical directive said absolutely no life preserving medical help,,, but her step son had power of attorney over her and for some reason he stood to gain more money after a certain time frame so his lawyers overrode my Aunt's directive, put her on of life support and she lived comatose for 5 more years... The whole time we were there she knew us.. she, I believe, felt in her heart we hadn't fought for her right to die with dignity, she balled her fists up in angst and moaned fiercely at us.. It was horrible to realize that she was aware yet, unable to do anything even to open her eyes. I cannot get her discomfiture out of my midn. She did pass soon after our visit... And I know she is in a much better place...
2. Unusual food combinations you enjoy.
My dad taught me how to eat peanut butter and sweet pickle sandwiches, and I must say, (YUM,YUM!)
3. Your best cure for hiccups.
When I get really bad hiccups I take a glass of water and drink it all down slowly and swallow any hiccups that occur with the water.. That really helps me.
4. Something you have never done but would like to try. Spend about a month in Scotland and Ireland and do the driving ourselves!
5. A routine you do every day without fail
I do have some very difficult irrational fears about nighttime... long story and I pray about it often, I despise it about myself, but it all goes back to my childhood and an issue of unlocked doors... Every night without fail even if I know Hubs has already done it, I must do it again... I make the circuit around the house making sure all doors are well locked and everything is safe and secure.
6. Something new you've recently learned.
How wonderful vent free gas logs are... a wonder of this age!!!
7. Your keenest sense.
My keenest sense is smell... Hubs can't smell a thing. I am particularly acutely aware of smoke, gas, mildew, rotten garbage, bad breath, vermin. if a mouse or other varment is in the house, I can smell it.
8. Whether you prefer cooking or cleaning up.I definitely prefer cooking and Hubs is the perfect husband.. he always cleans up.. in fact, I don't think I could clean up to his liking.. he is super fastidious! Which is a good thing.. and he is extra careful about regularly sterilizing vaporizers, coffee pots, my Yeti, etc. I love him for it so much!!!
9. Where were you the last time you saw the sun rise.
Last year I had several rather early morning appointments to see about my skin cancer on my nose,, MOHS and reconstruct doctors in Charlottesville.. that required a long travel due east right as the sun was rising... I would take many photos of the rising sun because, unfortunately, from our home, we neither can see the sun rise nor set.
10. A recent time you were embarrassed.
Most of my most embarrassing moments I can think of 3 horrors right off the bat... of recent time that are of such a personal nature I can't relate them.. think of the worst thing possible and you're probably in the ball park.
Otherwise, I can embarrass myself just about everyday,,as I am at the age when I can't think of the word I want to use while conversing... I hate it,, stumbling around for a simple word that I remember 1 minute later...
11. An everyday sound that delights you.
I love to have ambient noise around me... low instrumental music playing in the house all day, rain or wind outside, even the whirring of the space heater beside me... it drowns our the ringing in my ears!! I would say "hahah," but I'm serious!
12. The last conversation you had with a stranger. This may sound odd... we had the gas man come to the house on Friday to the hook up the gas logs and he was a bit older than we.. very gregarious and Hubs seeing his zip code on his business card asked where he went to school. We found out he and I went to same middle school but he was 4 years my senior.. we started talking and I found out he had been my paper boy when I was a kid, and had gone to the same elementary school.. I proceeded to find out where he lived and we spoke of the neighborhood friends many we had shared..somehow we got to talking about vacations and he's a Hilton Head family while we prefer North Myrtle, although since our daughter has lived in NE for 12 years now we are Cape Codders.. I followed him out the door still talking about the benefits of Hilton Head and the route he took to get there... It is funny how if they were from the old neighborhood, even if you didn't know them, you still just feel a sort of connection..
