Pink Saturday~Anything Goes

Hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound

I asoI am so glad that I did a lot of my decorating last week, because suddenly things seem overwhelming with other things that need doing.  I have created a new Christmas Card list and I am thinking about typing it up this year and using labels.  It just seems prudent. It looks like we will be sending 50 cards this year. I know a lot of folks have cut card sending off their to-do list, but to me it is a huge component of Christmas.  We are thankful for every card we receive; and are understanding when we do not get any.

So I always  start in the dining room  :

Then move to the parlor!

I  wanted to add blue to my decor and I love the tall blue tree I found at Kirklands..  Actually, Kirklands in my opinion has  improved  quite a bit  . I hadn't  been there in ages..  but the store we  visit  was  amazing! It was a suggestion from a Youtube video.  It is where we found this luscious garland, too ..  I love it!!  a bit of a view...

 and the hall...

You saw in one of the photos  a small tree. I have  another one in the sunroom that   I am thinking of moving it into the sitting room, as that is actually nothing more than a pass through room.   We would enjoy it much more in the  room in which we spend most of our time.  I may do that today!  So that is basically it for now.    I pray you all are having a grand transition from  Thanksgiving to the Yule Tide    season!   Love to you all!

Beverly's PINK SATURDAY

Welcome to Pink Saturday.

Ok,  I am just going to get right into it.. I've had fill of gold and orange..   I know  November is still a couple of days away,  but it is Saturday and  it says Anything Goes.. soooooooo

                             Here Goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am ready to start decorating for Christmas.. Well, I will not be home  half of December..  so I  have to make up the time on this end!!  Besides, I love Christmas and  the music, the smells,  the  joy,  the  cosy fires.. the hot chocolate.  Hmmmmmmmm!

And well, I do have a tiny bit of a dilemma.  Since last year  we have painted the  downs stairs  blue..  it was a warm  creamy gold color and which  looked pretty   good for  twenty years on our  stucco walls. But  blue started calling my name..  and has looked so  sweet all year,  until  now  when I consider Christmas.

So let's take a walk down memory lane and see what  Christmas was like  last year.

Since last year, we have retired   the  above fireplace  tapestry  for  one  that  is more blue and just my  style  for my new room. But the previous one   sort of anchored the room for the holidays. I, also, replaced the red chairs  for new  blue ones!!
So my dilemma now is  can I still use  just my red and green   decor, or need I continue to browse online for  something more  white and silver.. I do not like  blue  Christmas decor,  but I am not averse to  finding something teal-ish  too because we do have teal in some other rooms..  I  would love some  feedback from  anyone  willing to share..  Here is a little secret.. I feel in love with light blue last Christmas because so many Hallmark movies had  light blue and  the Christmas decorations looked  fabulous,  but  they, also, had  a lot of lights on everything.   So, I think, in particular, I will need more lights!!!  But, please let me know..  The  fall decor has been put away and I am ready to start !!!    Have a blessed weekend!!

Pink Saturday

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
💗💗💗💗💗
With everything  a bit crazy around here with all the  preparing to paint the whole downstairs,  I  have been so blessed this Valentine's Day!!

We are changing our  English   cottage that  was a   lovely  rusticated  olde English type

to something much brighter and  a bit more minimal.  We are in process of painting the walls a very light blue  and have  moved those  dark chairs  to other rooms ;  we  have purchased  2  perfect chairs which   I will share   when things are finished! As much as I love my  tapestry it just is too heavy   in design for my new room,  but  we  labored over  what to  put in its place. Then Lynn solved the problem.  He has ordered this  gorgeous    tapestry which means so much to us both because both of our families, before  they were Scottish, hailed from France!

Chenonceau Castle in the Loire Valley

I absolutely love  it!!  It will look so  lovely  against   my new walls!

So  our home is  topsy-turvy..  furniture and decor all over the place, living room bare...  except for the sofa and piano .  OH, yes, please pray I have someone coming today to see if they want   the piano.  We are donating it to their church.  We will even pay to get it delivered.  I loved it,  bought it new in 1974,  but no one plays it anymore.  I cant see well enough to read the notes and my fingers art as nimble so I wasn't the   wall space back! You can see in the photo above the sofa sits  into the room because the piano is behind it!  Oh, to breathe and  move that sofa back to the wall!Lynn is just about to  begin painting.   I need to hurry so I can cheer him on!!

Even though the house was  a total  mess, as were we,  the florist still made its annual visit!

Lynn is  the sweetest....  really mellowing out  in his maturity!  I dare not use another   description!  I hope  everyone is  enjoying this special weekend!  Have a lovely  time, and go with God.  He deserves all the glory!!

A Country Style Table for Spring

Image result for cole creek countryside grayson county virginia
It is always good for me to  change  things up following a major holiday..  The  table had been set for Easter  for   about a month and  I was  kicking up my heels this afternoon,  to change it up for late Spring!
I chose yellow and blue because it reminds me   that I have country roots,,  and  I do miss my opportunities to  spend my weekends in the country.  My mom and grandparents lived in the country all those  years and I thing  as I climb the rock behind grandma's house to survey the gorgeous countryside  that  this is all mine! I have free domain to   roam where ever I want... Everyone knows who I am  and  I have  a certain authority to skip  through the fields and roam the woods at your leisure!
Then suddenly it all vanishes..  Gramps have passed,  mom and dad  have sold out to   move closer to us and now they  are in heaven,, and all I'm left with  are sweet memories..  I can drive by the houses,  but strangers live there now..  best to not ever  go back there...  just remember..  But I can   recreate the mood  here at home and for me it is yellow and blue!!
I  began with a   a lovely soft yellow cloth,,  like the color of sweet creamery butter.
I used the mx matched   transfer ware in blue...  Countryside by  by Enoch Wedgewood plates  and Mason's  Denmark cups and saucers.... meaningful to me  because my  grandparents were of ancient English heritage.
who  migrated to England from France..  I love my  napkins, made in France, folded in the   Olde French Fleur di Lys  pattern..

Note the antique  glass pitcher and compote.. both  I inherited from my great grandparents  who taught my grandfather  the carpenter trade so he could build the marvelous farmhouse on his  dairy farm in the early 1920's.

I can feel a bit of Country French  with a bit of  shabby British thrown in for good measure  in this  setting!!
The centerpiece  is a hold over from easter... A bird's nest intertwined with dogwood boughs  and wild flower debecked candles in pewter  candle sticks!

All together  I think sets a lovely  late spring table  heralding my  loving memories  of life in the country with my family!

Just Around the Corner!

“Spring is when you feel like whistling, even with a shoe full of slush.”

— Doug Larson

This pretty much sums up  our lead in to spring!
We have had so much rain  this winter  that the ground continues to be  saturated..  I  wanted to  cut some daffodils, but  I need   waders to get over to them.. Maybe I can tomorrow..

But  with the  spring -like feel to the air,,  it really  makes me want to  get  the house all spruced up!
Enter spring,  and the  heavy dark colors in the living room  call out to me to be lifted.. so out come the  white  afghans  to  subdue the  navies and  maroons.  Last year I  removed the  tapestry for cleaning and    didn't put it back until fall...  But,  I missed it.. so  it will stay and  enjoy the  liveliness of spring and summer!!  Besides it is full of  beautiful springy flowers!!

“The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size.”
— Gertrude S. Wister

To  bring out the  flowery  glory of spring I  happened to be at Pier 1 yesterday  and  found  gorgeous pillows for the  sofa!!!

So Easter Bunny found a home nearby!!

My geneaology table,, actually is  the antique  gateleg table that my grandfather made for his new farmhouse he built   following WWI.  I  like to keep it  vintage looking  in tribute to my  heritage!
Young Lambs by John Clare
The spring is coming by a many signs;
The trays are up, the hedges broken down,
That fenced the haystack, and the remnant shines
Like some old antique fragment weathered brown.
And where suns peep, in every sheltered place,
The little early buttercups unfold
A glittering star or two--till many trace
The edges of the blackthorn clumps in gold.
And then a little lamb bolts up behind
The hill and wags his tail to meet the yoe,
And then another, sheltered from the wind,
Lies all his length as dead--and lets me go
Close bye and never stirs but baking lies,
With legs stretched out as though he could not rise.

Spring time puts such a spark in my giddy up... I have found   a spring in my  step...  a  praise in my heart and a love for   the One true  Creator of all things... Spring is a tribute to His  great majesty.  Tomorrow when we  host  a prayer   vigil in this room,  we will be reminded to  praise  Him for the Beauty of the Earth !
For the beauty of the earth
For the beauty of the skies
For the love
which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Lord of all to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise
For the beauty of the hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale
And tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of light
Lord of all to thee we raise
This our joy ful hymn of praise
For the joy of human love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth
And friends above
For a gentle
Thoughts and mild
For a gentle
Thoughts and mild
Lord of all to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise
For each perfect gift of thine
To our race so freely given
Graces human and divine
Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n
Lord of all to thee we raise
This our joy ful hymn of praise

So much cozier with a fire  blazing!!!

A few red roses  to  the  seasonal tree  along with the snowflakes. I mean winter isn't over yet is it!?!
