We think of giving at this time of year. Folks everywhere start thinking about gifting right after the new year because of the many sales and opportunity to save in spending. I know people who had all their Christmas gifts wrapped and hidden away by July.
But there are gifts, given and received that in one way cost nothing, yet in another way are the most valuable gifts in the world. There was no monetary exchange, but the exchange for these gifts was probably the most valuable you can imagine. These gifts are actually given by God, ,through His Holy Spirit. They are given to His children who were purchased by the precious blood of His own Son on Calvary. That spilled blood was the purchase price paid to redeem all believers of the sin..
We might ask, well, what are these most valuable gifts? For one thing they are invisible.. unseen by the believers’ eyes. They are intangible. ..not wrapped in foils with bows. They are not natural of the world.. but spiritual from heaven. They are given to those who believe and whose inheritance is heaven. Now the Bible refers to these as gifts of the Spirit in Isaiah 11:2… wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and fear of the Lord. In Galatians 5 there are even more gifts, referred to as fruits, that are ours through the Spirit ,as well. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control.
How precious are these amazing gifts that are ours when we choose Jesus Christ as our Redeemer and Saviour!
