Random Dozen

So, are you ready to play Plinko?

Definition of plink: "Plinking refers to informal target shooting done at non-traditional targets such as tin cans, glass bottles, and balloons filled with water." Plinko is also a carnival game we play at Oneighty, but pot-luck shots fits this meme better, I think.

So here are your random plinko questions lined up in a row just like tin cans:

1. How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet? That would be my wooden shoes that I bought when we visited the Netherlands in 1973.. Still holding up very well... if they are the most uncomfortable shoes you could imagine!

2. Did you buy Girl Scout cookies this year? If so, what variety? Not yet,,, havent seen any for sale anywhere.... but it would be chocolate mint!!

3. Do you know how to ballroom dance? If not, would you like to? No,, I dont think I really have the energy to do that well.. love to watch it though!!

4. Were you a responsible child/teenager?Definitely... back in the day,, there was no other way was there?

5. How many of this year's Oscar-nominated movies did you see?The Blind Side... loved it!!

6. If you're going to have a medical procedure done, such as having blood drawn, is it easier for you to watch someone else having the procedure done or have it done yourself? Are you kidding?

7. What is your favorite day of the week and why? I do love Saturday.. there is always the hope that something unexpected will happen on a Saturday!

8. Do you miss anyone right now? This lovely girl and her wonderful husband!!
Photobucket

9. Do hospitals make you queasy? No I am very thankful to have the benefit of fine hospitals and today's medical advancements.

10. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card. Not that you ever would, you responsible person, you. Well, nothing is worth maxing out my credit card and going in debt for.. but I do enjoy shopping online at Old Durham Road.

11. Are you true to the brand names of products/items? Not at all... I look for value wherever it might come from.

12. Which is more difficult: looking into someone’s eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someone’s eyes when he/she is telling you how he/she feels?Looking into their eyes when I am telling how I feel....

Random Dozen ::December 1

1. Which Wizard of Oz character are you most like? I always associated with the Scarecrow... I loved his character so much! Such an endearing soul... and I suppose often I do feel rather mindless.

2. When you're deciding what you're going to wear each morning, which item do you select first? Why? I never really thought about it but I alwyas decide on the pants first then go for a top. I have absolutely no idea why!

3. What kind of animal do you think the world could live without?Mosquitoes.. I mean really... what earthly good do they do!?!

4. How many Christmas trees are in your home? The main tree in the living room, the real tree in the sunroom, a small tree in the library.. although we used to have another tree in the rec downstairs, now the room is a real wreck!

5. Would you prefer to be emotionless if it mean you didn't have to feel a heartbreak?

No way... I am a very soulful person and heartbreak has helped to mold me. Praise God for the broken heart... it is that by which we are able thereafter to measure joy.

6. Do you ever experience holiday let-down or depression? Always. I hate taking down the Christmas decorations. It is especially hard now that Amanda and Joshua live so far away and we never know how things may change over the coming year with aging parents etc.

7. Do you like Michael Jackson's music? I always liked his music.. he was a great talent, although a very conflicted soul.

8. Why is it that we never judge people who have their teeth fixed for cosmetic reasons, but every other cosmetic procedure has a stigma?I wouldnt go so far to say every other cosmetic fix has a stigma. I think there are many very worthwhile cosmetic redos which are most valuable. My cosmetic fixup of choice has been lesion removal.. I seem to have a blue million of em... inherited from both sides of the family! I hate them and try to have a dozen or so removed ever so often! Now breast augmentation is ridiculous to me.. however, I know many folks who look into breast reduction. Now that has merit from a physical point of view. But now I have given tmi!

9. Enjoy horseback riding? I love to watch others enjoy the sport... but not for me...

10. Shoes--practical or stylish? I love stylish shoes, but there again... at this stage of my life... I am very practical... to many foot problems!!

11. What was the name of your first pet? Feel free to post a pic. AW!! I had a pure white kitten as a small child. But someone stole it. Its name was Snowball.

12. What percentage of your Christmas shopping is done? I have about 1/3 of my shopping done!

A Random Dozen

1. If you could master one sport, what would it be?

I would love to pick up where I left off about 30 years ago with golf.

2. When you make a major purchase, do you go with your gut instinct, or do you do research to make an informed decision?

I suppose both would be true. I choose to be more informed regarding mechanical, electronic purchases, but when it comes to home decor I go with instinct and passion at times. My style is rather eclectic and when I see something I just know I have to have it.

3. There is an old kids' game that says you can find out what your movie star name would be by using your middle name as your first name and the name of the street you grew up on as your last. What is your movie star name?

Jean Vermont.... well, sounds rather forties to me.

4. Would you rather give up your favorite music or your favorite food?

It would have to be food. I know I could come up with a good replacement for my favorite food, but music feeds my soul.

5. There are two types of banana preferences. One is pristine yellow, almost to the point of being green; the other is spotty and more ripe. Which is your preference?

Spmwhere in the middle. I do not like that bitter taste of the too pristine naner!

6. Your favorite tree is?

I really love red buds blooming in the spring.

7. On a scale of 1-10, how tech savvy are you?

2, maybe.

8. Has H1N1 touched your family?

No, and I am praying it will not!

9. Are you an analytical person, or do you just accept things the way they are without questioning or scrutinizing?

Not one bit analytical. I balance out my hubby in this area.

10. Is your personality more like that of a dog, cat, or Koala?

"I have days when I'm private and independent, like a cat. I have days when I'm cuddly like a Koala. And then I have days when I am friendly, have accidents and chase "squirrels" in my dreams, like a puppy." This response is so good and so much like me I have to keep it here.

11. Do you keep in touch with friends you made years ago?

Facebook has brought some old friends into my life, but I would love to find my old college roommate! Brenda, are you out there!!!!!! This is Peachy!

12. You are checking out at a grocery store. In the express lane, there are more people than the regular lanes, but of course, their load is less than those in the regular lanes. Which lane do you choose (assuming you qualify for the express lane) and why? I am not too smart I suppose, but this happened last night. I chose the shorter line with the basket that was brimming full of canned goods. I watched the express lane filter down, down , down and still just stayed in my slow lane.

A Random Dozen

Random Dozen :: November 11
It's a dreary Tuesday and I'm just in a pensive mood. So I thought I play along with this Random Dozen thingy!
1. What was the last song you listened to?

Well, I've been listening to my new cd I purchased at the Renewanation dinner.. The entertainment that evening was provided by Richard Kiser and his classical acoustic guitar. Fabulous... so I bought his Christmas cd.. I think it was Silent Night.

2. Have you ever had “buyer’s remorse” over anything? Oh, yes... I am a real sucker for buying cd's following church and other local events.. I want to keep the memory alive I suppose... but I have many a cd in my collection that just dont quite measure up to the actual event.... I guess the live experience adds more excitement and wonder to it all than you'd think. Thankfully, the above mentioned cd does not fit this category... it is wonderful!!

3. What is something in your life that you are thankful for now that you didn’t think you would be at the time of the event? (Something that seemed ill-timed, inconvenient or hurtful which turned out to be a good thing) When we left our previous church it was with very bittersweet motivations.. It is so difficult to leave a church family... but you just know when the time has come to make the move,
even as difficult as it is.... we actually should have made the move much, much sooner. It has made the greatest difference in our lives as a couple;... glory to God!!!!

4. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade every year? If so, do you have a favorite float or balloon? I guess it has been 20 years since I actually sat down to watch it... too busy in the kitchen! I do remember watching for Santa though, of course!

5. Share a quote, scripture, poem or lyric which has been an inspiration to you lately.
On Eagle's Wings
You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
Who abide in His shadow for life,
Say to the Lord, "My Refuge,
My Rock in Whom I trust."

Refrain
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
And famine will bring you no fear;
Under His Wings your refuge,
His faithfulness your shield.

Refrain
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
You need not fear the terror of the night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day,
Though thousands fall about you,
Near you it shall not come.

Refrain
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
For to His angels He's given a command,
To guard you in all of your ways,
Upon their hands they will bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Refrain
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.

6. This is meant to be a fun question, and this is a G-rated blog, but please share a “guilty pleasure,” something that you enjoy that’s probably not the most edifying, time-worthy or healthy thing you could be indulging in. Did I mention this blog is rated G? I do spend an inordinate amount of time on Facebook! AAACK! Ok... I am a little addicted to Farmtown.

7. What Thanksgiving food are you looking forward to? Since this is the first time in 59 years that I am doing the whole meal on my own.... I am looking forward mainly to learning how to make the dressing.... if my mom ever writes down the recipe!!!

8. What is your favorite book to read to children, or what was your favorite childhood book? I loved reading Fantastic Mr. Fox to Amanda... "Will there be dogs?!!!"

9. Do you collect anything? (Feel free to post a photo.) I love angels

Photobucket

10. Gift bags or wrapping paper? I love to use both. I enjoy wrapping up my parcels with real ribbons and tying lovely bows, but there is something to be said for the simplicity of a nice gift bag as well!

11. Share an after-school memory from when you were younger. What was your routine like on an average day?

I lived nine blocks from my school. The walk home was up and down hills with few sidewalks. I remember especially when it rained wearing my galoshes and tramping through some gullies along one trek of the routine. On nice days I'd stop in at Wills Store for some penny candy if I was fortunate enough to have a penny. I liked to buy those wax lips of all things! Bleh! I walked to my neighbor's house across the street who watched me after school. I loved elementary school. Our school was quite old when I started in 1956. Each class had a cloak room. Man, did we ever think it was fun fooling around in there getting ready to go home in the afternoon. I remember wearing woolen leggings in first grade... what a pain to put on in there. And we wore cotton dresses or skirts with suspenders... if we didn't wear suspenders they'd fall down off of us. Yikes!

12. True story: This reminds me of living near a Mr. Moe's hamburger joint. When I was about 13 and I'd come home from school hungry, so I'd raid my dad's drawer for 19 cents and run down to Mr. Moe's for a hamburger. Now I realize that I was raiding his coin collection !! Triple yikes!!
