When You just don’t know how to start your prayer

 Many times  we feel like we just do not know what to pray to the Lord, besides our simple “Now I lay me down, “etc.   God is just  pleased  to hear from us!   We can just talk to Him. Or, just like David, when he penned the psalms , they were actually songs to God!

 Some were definitely prayers of praise, others of  supplication. For example, Psalm 6 is a psalm of supplication…you can hear the anguish in his voice as he pleads for God’s help.

Psalm 6

1Psalm

1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;
heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in deep anguish.
How long, Lord, how long?
4 Turn, Lord, and deliver me;
save me because of your unfailing love.
5 Among the dead no one proclaims your name.
Who praises you from the grave?
6 I am worn out from my groaning.
All night long I flood my bed with weeping
and drench my couch with tears.
7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow;
they fail because of all my foes.
8 Away from me, all you who do evil,
for the Lord has heard my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy;
the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish;
they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.

Then, in contrast, psalm 8 is a psalm of praise.. listen how David sings about God’s glory. You might even recognize this song!

Psalm 8
1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

We do not always have to have our Bibles before us when we pray. I have learned this wonderful song to sing each night before I start my evening prayer. It calms my spirit and prepares my heart for prayer.
