Make a House a Home Challenge

Photobucket
Suzanne, has offered the Make the House a Home Challenge for the month of June.
I love to bring the outside in. Whether it is a spray of fresh holly, a smathering of fall leaves on the table, a cluster of fresh blooms, or an arrangement of silk posies on the hall tree, flowers are a must in the house.Photobucket I was delighted to find this handled glass vase on sale at Pier 1 yesterday to hang on my hall door. What a great way to showcase my hydrangeas.Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket These silk orchids are reminesient of the flowers we used in Amanda's wedding. Photobucket

I fell in live with this urn I found at Tuesday Morning-very medieval! Photobucket The vase in this arrangement was used in Amanda's wedding on the gift table. Then it was all poppies. Of course, I had to add blue hydrangeas.Photobucket
When I dont do flowers I really wish to incorporate my love of all things medieval, especially all about my prayer corner side table. My dear friend Sarah made my songbook angel which inspires me to sweet worship, and the Christ, the cross, above all things, sets my heart and mind on heaven. I love my spiritual warfare plaque my dh gave me last Christmas. This vignette really sets the tone for soulful contemplation, communion, and fellowship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.Photobucket

This past weekend I posted how we upgraded the guest bedroom from a full to a queen size bed. we purchsed extended rails when we purchased out new mattress. I've been thinking of ways to make the room more accommodating by offering toiletries for guests personal use.

Fresh towels are always available unpon arrival.

When my daughter and sil come this weekend I want each room to provide a cheery greeting. One way I have softened the stark lines of the sunroom by adding flowers in unexpected places.
Photobucket Usually this snowgoose sports cattails and grasses, but these delight blue flowers echo the fabulous blue hydrangeas that are growing right outside the window.
Photobucket
Amanda and Joshua are professional violinsits who will be performing in town this weekend. I want their stay here to be as comfortable as being at home. One cozy spot for a quick nap is the sunroom sofa supplied with select soft afghans and coverlets.
Photobucket
We live in a 1930's English Tudor and do not have an entrance foyer. This room arrangement creates an entrance and also provides a more conversational environment.

A new arrangement of furniture does create a more livable space. I love having plenty of chairs for large groups who meet here, but they are difficult to arrange without looking like they just encircle the room.
Photobucket
I sit in the plaid chair to have my personal time with the Lord. This arrangement puts my favored study books at my fingertips.
Photobucket
This new bookcase helps in organizing my books and spruces up the landing of the stairs by the living room. Now all of my spiritual books are together and easy to access from my "Secret Place" where I spend time in prayer and solitude.

Make a House a Home Month

Photobucket
Suzanne, over at http://blueberrycottage.blogspot.com/ has offered the Make the House a Home Challenge for the month of June. Even though I am late in getting started, I am excited to participate.

I get a ton of inspiration from Jo Packham's book, Extraordinary Touches for an Ordinary Day a lifestyle/ decorating book that promotes those extra little touches, extra considerations we can make to insure comfort, appreciation, and love to family and friends in our home.Photobucket
Lighting makes all the difference in the creating an inviting space. Even in the daytime you should allow sunlight into the room, even if it is filtered. Natural, as well as lamplight and candles, offer a sense of well- being and peace to a room.
Photobucket
Displaying family treasures not only personalizes a space but also showcases individual interests and values.
Photobucket
This curio cabinet houses a collection of castles which demonstrate my interest in all things medieval.
Photobucket
I look forward to adding more in the coming days!
