Time to Lay Red to Rest!

It was   a rather easy  way to  transition from  Christmas  to  February.. just  keep the red  and   pull out the hearts...  and  surely sweetheart will   provide  more red  somwhere along the way,  and  he did!!!   Such  luscious red roses...

You love the roses - so do I.      I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on. They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!
George Eliot

Febrauary was a great time to plan a get together....
so  about 8 of our  prayer team got together to plan  ahead  for   Christians United to Pray prayer and praise events  around my table over  chocolate pie and coffee. The recipe found here.
Highly recommended!

A splash of  valentine red
set off by valentine hearts  lends such a cheerfulness to the  drab of winter days...

A rosy mantel   spills into    the parlor sharing  a joyful mirth even though that room  sees  little other attention..as  we seek the comfort of cosier  spaces!
but a chilly parlor  seems the fitting spot  to  preserve for as long as possible the  gorgeous  roses  sent by my  lover and best friend, Lynn! They definitely  brighten up the room!

So I have made my decision  today...  Ive had it with  winter...  we've had our snow  which still blankets  the ground...  the kiddies have had their  sleigh ride....

and  when the    bloom has  lost  its    beauty, then  the red will be gone.. packed away... and  spring will  sprout  fresh and alive  around the house....  I will bid adieu to  February  and it's  lovely red  that has  almost   out lived its welcome.... time for  yellow, violet,  green, and blue!

Sunflower Dreams

"Crown'd with the sickle, and the sheaten sheaf,
While Autumn, nodding o'er the yellow plain,
Comes jovial on."
- James Thomson
I love  sunflowers....   a country lea  smattered with golden  smiling faces!
You cant blame me for  smattering   their cheer  around the house!
How about a sunshiny sunflower breakfast plate....  this morning  we had  poached eggs and     english muffins with our   coffee!
A sunflower luncheon awaits   my visiting clan...  simple fare with   fresh  country  veggies and    hot cornbread  with  melting butter....
How about a  teeatime setting  reminding us all that    a  gracious tea  is always "Steeped in Charm"!
Next time  I serve    my special friends  tea... it will include  Ina Garten's  latest Bistro Apple Tarts...   looks so easy.. I think I could even do them...

A Lazy Morning

What a wonderful morning.. nothing on the schedule....  an opportunity to sleep in.... til 7...  and  just  luxuriate  in the  pleasure of    just  breathing and  living  in peace...as I sat on the porch,  I reflected in prayer    the  ills of our nation
of which there are so many, and I  prayed for our government leaders to  turn to God's council...It was  God who ordained  their position,   who  allowed them the privilege  to serve and  it should be by God's  direction that they lead our nation to  be strong,  just, tranquil,  defended,  safe,  and secure.
Praise God that  we can  trust  Him for all these things  when  the government goes awry!.
It was such a marvelous morning,     Lynn and I enjoyed  our  breakfast outside... Now that the  glider which  I truly  loved for over 50 years    has   gone, I now have space for  the  charming  tea server   I got at last week's  yard sale.... I look forward to its transformation soon...   however, I can  stand it    in the interim... it's benefits are so great..
room to place  food,, and   this morning I had my  tablet on there  as we  enjoyed our  meal.

I  love the view to my right.... the  Crepe Myrtle   in    full bloom....
I am  anxious  the next time I am out shopping to find  a new  outdoor tablecloth  to  show off my  new cushions  from  Plow and Hearth...  The only thing I can say about this cloth is it matches the    tea cart  for now! HAHAAHHAHA!

We decided on these cushions  when we purchased  our wonderful   bench   which is much more practical that  my beloved  glider   that took  a ride to Good Will yesterday .  I know someone today  is  anxiously  awaiting  creating a most cosy  spot  with  that   wonderful  vintage  item...
I waited for Lynn as long as I could, after all, a person wants to  eat  warm food....
so I  enjoyed    my   breakfast companion  nearby...

Soon  Lynn did join me  as I  revelled with my second cup of coffee and   we listened to
Truth for Life, with Alistair Begg .
Suddenly the spell was broken  as  morning recess  began across the street.. Summer  school is in session!

January House Plants

My wonderful friends and family have been so attentive and loving to us  during the time of the loss of Dad  in December.  One very tangible  way they have shown their love is  in the   gorgeous plants  they  sent and brought to us.
This  delicately  beautiful  orchid from my  dear  cousin, Cindy, is one such example...  Oh, how I pray I can keep it going.   So far so good,  Ive had it now  over a month...
During the very cold snap  I   brought all of them  into the dining room from the sunroom ...
but now  the plants are  valiantly gracing other rooms!
These  magnificent peace lilies flank the fireplace !

They lift the atmosphere  and put me in the mood for   spring... their vibrancy  and   life giving  oxygen  also lift the spirit!
I love how commanding they a re in the room...

'Connection with gardens, even small ones, even potted plants, can become windows to the inner life. The simple act of stopping and looking at the beauty around us can be prayer.'

Ablaze with Autumn

Autumn has finally arrived here  in our neck of the woods....
This  bookcase  near the   stairs showcases  a simple  vignette to remind us of your kingdom  life and responsibility..    that, first of all, we are the sheep of His pasture,  and  follow  the guidance of our Shepherd...  but we are, also, warriors, equipped to do  spiritual battle to  subdue the  earth  of its  dark forces and    reflect  the light of   the One who loves us best,  Jesus Christ!
As I  peer  into the  mirror,  I see   fallish hues   reflected...

When I  look outside,  there are  definite  signs that  autumn is here!

Lynn and I have had   quite  a fun time   on  our various pumpkin escapades...Im still  seeking  the perfect   flat pumpkin   that   Ive been promised  will  arrive   next week!
I am thinking   to  create  a  pyramid of pumpkins   if I can find just the right ones!  heheheh
For now, these beauties   please  me.

As I   move  on into the parlor,  I spy the  wall hanger  appears to  be  complete...

Again,  I  am so pleased to be using my   silk gingko leaves I  found in Boston last  fall, along with the   Japenese lanterns.
As I  move across the room,   the fiery  hues of  autumn  attract me f rom the    mantel...
This year, I am   enjoying   the   beautifu hand-crafted   wreath of  oak and acorns  that my mother made  several years ago, when she   participaed in the  the SW Virgnina Mountain Guild.

My bronzed   birds found a home   on the mantel, as well.

Stepping   around the corner into the  dining room,    it  surely  doesnt look like   autumn  has taken a break....   blazing colors   attend  every

spot!

This  table has  been in varying  degrees of readiness,   and now  it  appears  complete...

It  was  great to finally   bring up the   box of  autumn  fare  and find  this  arrangement that  needed only a  bit sprucing up...  it accents the black and  white   with the most welcoming  array of  cheerfulness!

I am still loving the   pewter colored napkins from Kohl's and   the  Armetale  accents  that  lend their country    quaintness  and warmth to the scene!
I started   my small collection many years ago  when I was  teaching Virgina History and   decorated our first home in  Colonial  Americana.. so why shouldnt it lend its grace to my  olde  English   themes!
My  black  transferware, the Herdsman,  from Royal Stafford  are the  perfect compliment to  this table
I am  quite  happy with the final  effect!
