Showing Gratitude to. God and Others
This is the season of Thanksgiving and we are reminded how important it is to be thankful at least on Thanksgiving Day. Many family member and friends go around the dinner table on the day telling things they are especially thankful for. I remember I used to read a selection from the Autumn collection of poems, as a child. Thanksgiving was a family time full of traditions.
But giving gratitude was not born in the heart of the family, but was suggested by Paul in his letter to the Ephesians.
Ephesians 1:15-17 I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all Christians. Since then, I always give thanks for you and pray for you. I pray that the great God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ may give you the wisdom of His Spirit..
The idea of showing gratitude to others has been capitalized on by card makers of every kind suggesting us to send Thank You cards in response to receiving gifts, favors, visitations, etc. Emily Post defintely recommends a daintily written note showing gratitude for the kindnesses extended by friends and family. I am sure we all have at one time or another have written and received notes of thanks. I particularly have been so appreciative with those unexpected heart felt missives that arrive out of the blue, but show that you as a person have been appreciated and loved by another. We all thrive on words of affirmation and consideration, that our lives matter in the grand scheme of things.
I am challenging us all to think of a couple or more people in your life that you could write a lovingly affirming note to just because it is Thanksgiving. I feel that if we pray about it The Spirit within us will speak to our hearts about to whom to write and why. I believe that person would be so very moved by the receiving of up your note especially when it arrives so unexpectedly. I truly believe in these dark times receiving a cheery note filled with loving thoughts can really be a huge encouragement..and may very well be God’s means of blessing that person in a low period of their life.
Here is a link on ideas for crafting your note. You know, in my estimation, I think it would be wonderful if the old fashioned idea of keeping up with our correspondence with loved ones was brought back into vogue. It is a very meaningful way to stay in touch! God bless us!
