The Simple Woman Day Book

For Today~ June 19, 2017

Looking out my window...

Cloudy with a big chance of storms starting anytime lasting well into the evening.... the ground is saturated so I can anticipate flooding... we have cleared all our outside drains.... praying no water gets in the basement!!!

I am thinking...
about the video I watched on Face book a while ago about the unrest and shootings in Myrtle Beach...I am so saddened by the turmoil that keeps festering around the country brought about by so much hate speech, intolerance, twisted truths and outright lies. I never thought Id see the day that my dear country would to be so divided and hate filled!

I am thankful..
that I know  who  I have believed and    know  that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that day of His coming  or until calls me home!

I am watching.....
I'm sure I watch it for  an escape to a happy place...   but I do still watch a couple of YouTube videos every night   on  Escape to the Country..  When  you have  45 minutes   to  do something special for yourself  watch  this episode.

I am  reading...
I am not going to apologize today for still reading Jan Karon's book, because I realize  I  am  savoring it..
Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good,  and I only read  a couple  times a week.  and it is a weighty book.

I am listening to...
I love our  Oldie  Goldie station....
Got NO Time  by  The Guess Who   oooooeeeeee!!!!
Now it  is Stormy by the Classics Four

I am hoping...
Hubs is outside  trying to get a  few  outside chores accomplished  before the rain  begins in earnest..  I hope  he can get   my last flats of  annuals planted.....  the ground may be too wet.. but it is a well drained area... Ever since I  burned my hand  and  these blisters a re  still healing   I don't do yard work.

I am learning...
still trying to be  satisfied waiting..  I  seem to  be  rather impatient in my  older age!

In the kitchen...
Yesterday for Father's day I made the most delectable  pot of homemade  spaghetti sauce..  It was  delish...  So glad we have enough for lunch today... When I do my own sauce I use Cento  tomato sauce and  add my own seasonings...and   along with the salt I added a  T. of  brown sugar...   I started with  of course   onions,  red peppers and  lean ground beef...  added the sauce,  and then  garlic,  basil, oregano,  thyme,  and even a bit of turmeric because it is so good  for you. Anyway, it simmered on stove top for a few hours...  and  was just  wonderful..  Hubs   first word  during his first bite  was  "ummmmmmmm,  good!"

In my garden~
Just waiting for the rains. again!!! Looks like Hubs will not be planting today.

Since I didn't have  anything to share on gardens,  I  found  some new pins to  share to my  Favorite Gardens on pinterest.

A moment in my day:
Yesterday  I really enjoyed rifling through so many photographs  to   recreate  the life of my dad,  born in 1919, served in WW2,    raised his family through the 50 and 60's ,

Image may contain: 2 people
 dad on left

retired in  the mid 80's  and  enjoyed a long life  until he was  called home in 2013.
He was  such a  good, really tender hearted, man..well-loved..  and he  loved his family  and  his church..  he was a hard worker and a  great provider... a keen example of the unconditional love of Christ!  And I love and miss him so much!!!

Closing Notes
Be blessed and be a blessing!

The Simple Woman Daybook

For Today~ May 17, 2016

I actually stepped outside the back door  because the screen is so   diverting....
I am loving the dynamic contrast of the yarrow against the  beautiful blue salvia..  and since these are perennials they will always  charm  me!
Little  Sprinkles, the  bear  is all set to  measure  the rain we are sure to get this week!!!

!

I am thinking
I love the rain.....   but  hoping it will  do its bit and be  finished by the weekend...  this is a rather important weekend for us!!!!

I am thankful
for the many blessings  that we  experience along the way that we are even unaware of...  God is faithful and good!

One of my favorite things
connections  through the many groups on face book.... for example  my elementary school is having a reunion this Saturday.. everyone from the old neighbor is invited..  to a picnic.. I am reconnecting with  Vickie,, my best friend I walked to school with.  I haven't seen her in years...  she and her husband live  about an hour away... I cant wait to see her!!!Rain..rain go away!!!
Here we are in first grade!!!
Vickie is in the first row and I am in the second row!!!

 am wearing
a plum sweatshirt and jeans..  it is rather  coolish here today!

I am creating
nothing this week

I am reading (read) /watching (watched) / listening to

{where you can share favorite titles, give a book review or pass along a current movie, podcast, music video, or television series you are enjoying}
I don't have a current film to  pass along.,  but on Netflix we did watch  the Rail Way Man

a review from Rotten Tomatoes
Based on the remarkable bestselling autobiography, THE RAILWAY MAN tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax (Colin Firth), a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labor camp during World War II. Decades later, Lomax and his beautiful love interest Patti (Nicole Kidman) discover that the Japanese interpreter responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and set out to confront him, and his haunting past, in this powerful and inspiring tale of heroism, humanity and the redeeming power of love. (c) Weinstein

Rating: R (for disturbing prisoner of war violence)

I must say I  despise violence..  and this  violence is somewhat horrid inferring the violence of a  Japanese  POW camp...  but it isn't gratuitous and  the  film is worth  enduring what violence there is....  if I could stand it  I would think you could if this film  appeals to you.  It is one of the best films Ive seen in a while!!!
I am hoping
that Hubs can get the garage eaves   painted this week... what with the  frequent and sporadic rain over the past few weeks this task has taken  some time...  can't get  other jobs done until this is completed...

I am learning

to  be less vocal  about my  concerns    in various  situations....  because it does absolutely no good to  voice  my opinion anyway...Believe me...  there is much more to this than I  can share... but  learning to  just  be quiet is a great endeavor for me!!!

In my kitchen
I baked a huge pan of baked beans to take to a funeral reception   for  one of the  oldest members of our church...  it  helped to warm up our kitchen as  the pilot light is off of our furnace and  our furnace man is out of town... brrrr! Thank goodness for ceramic heaters  that are on  next to me right now! hehhehe

In my garden
We shopped at Home Depot and  a farmer's market Saturday and I have  several items to plant!!!

Never take anything for granted...  time is short!

The Simple Woman Daybook

For Today~ May 9, 2016

Looking out my window
out the front  I see  my gorgeous blooming iris
and this late spring azalea  to the east!

I am thinking
I am loving this mild spring days...  the  air is  fresh and pollen free and the  breezes aqre heaven sent!

I am thankful
for answered prayers...  My cousin  is  home now form his  quad bypass over the weekend..  amazing how soon one is home following major surgery!!  That in itself is miraculous!

One of my favorite things
romantic gardens of  Britain  as seen  below..

I am wearing
a white tee, navy slacks, and  a lime green topper

I am creating
plans for  food to be taken to various upcoming engagements

I am reading (read) /watching (watched) / listening to

{where you can share favorite titles, give a book review or pass along a current movie, podcast, music video, or television series you are enjoying}
I am loving  reruns of a favorite  BBC series  seen on netflix
Foyle's War

I think Michael Kitchen  is Britains best kept secret...  so fun to make discoveries like this at this point of  their career... he is an actor  who  says it all with this  face!
I am hoping
to be able to pinpoint when we will be going to see our girls this summer...I like to get it on my calendar so I could count the days!!

I can't wait to  hold Cuddle Bug...  Haven't seen her in person since  January and they grow and  change so quickly!

I am learning

to take each day as it comes and be thankful....  so  sad  when we realize in a twinkling  a loved one can  pass into eternity..  We are   seeing this happen  around us  and it  really gives us pause to live life at the fullest!

In my kitchen
Hubs made french toast for breakfast.. waht a treat!

(Yelp.com)
but it looked just like this!!

In my garden
When you step out the back door don't stumble over the pot of petunias that have really  exploded following our  rainy season.
ON the ground beside it is  one of my  poor little hydrnageas that got  burned  with the  surprise cold snap!It is coming back!
Around the house  the   rhododendrons are    gorgeous!
the  yarrow is slowly making its appearance!
The blue salvia  is so hardy and  tries so hard to    shine its loveliness every year!!!
Another poor  planting to  get burned with the frost  was  my  wonderful blue hydrangea...But it is  coming back, too,   but oh, so slowly!!
But I am still crying the blues over my new   limelight paniculata    hydrangrea with the conical flowers.. the deer almost ate it down to the ground...We are now spraying things with   deer repellant...
It ahs been a hard season for  gardens around town!

An Invitation From the Master Gardener

Come into my garden
Come and sit with me awhile
I will whisper in your ear
I will make you smile
There are things I need to tell you
There are things you need to hear
When you listen with your heart
I will make them clear

Come into my garden
Lay your burdens down
Leave them at the garden gate
Never to be found
I will walk beside you
Take a look around
Walking on my garden path
You walk on Holy Ground

Come into my garden
Listen to my prayer
I will stand before you
Your sins I will declare
Vanished from my presence
Forgiven, washed away
If only you’ll confess
If only you will pray

Joan Curtin  ~2002

Go into the world — tell each friend or foe
Invite them to my garden
Let the whole world know
There is a place of comfort
There is a place of peace
You’ll find it in my garden
You’ll find it on your knees

Come into my garden
Blessings I’ll bestow
I will give you light and life
I will make you grow
Here within my garden walls
Behind the garden gate
Looking down the garden path
Patiently I wait
Joan Curtin

I am hoping

I am learning

how important it is to  simply trust God!

In my kitchen

for lunch today  I  took out the  boneless chicken strip and  country fried them...  so  delicious..    sliced up and  on top of our  chef salad!  Now I have tomorrow's dinner all set..    friend chicken and rice  with  stir fry!

The  National Day of Prayer this coming Thursday.. prayer is our only hope as a nation.

National Prayer
by   chairman, Tony Evans,
dad of  Priscilla Shirer, one of my favorite Women's studies  teacher

Dear heavenly Father, we come to You today as a humble people desperate for Your supernatural intervention on behalf of our beloved nation. First, we thank You for all the blessings You have bestowed on our land, blessings that have allowed us to bring so much good and benefit to not only our own citizens but also to the rest of the world. The very ideals upon which this country was founded were based on biblical truths, no matter how some try to rewrite history to deny that very fact today.

This is why our hearts are so broken over how You continue to be marginalized and dismissed by both our people and our institutions. We are also saddened by the fact that Your people have contributed greatly to the spiritual apathy that now engulfs us. Our satisfaction in remaining religious without being fully committed to living out the truths of Your Word has caused us to become co-conspirators with the forces of evil that are destroying us as a society.

It is for this reason that we personally and collectively repent of our carnality and recommit ourselves to becoming visible and verbal disciples of Jesus Christ. Enable us, by Your Spirit, to no longer be secret agent Christians but rather to publicly declare and live out Your truth in a spirit of love so that You feel welcome in our country once again.

Thank You for Your promise to hear our prayers when we call to You with hearts of repentance and obedience, which is how we are appealing to You today, Father. On behalf of Your church, we affirm afresh the priority You are to us that You would fill every dimension of our lives as we seek to bring You glory through the advancement of Your kingdom in our personal lives, our family lives, and in the lives of our churches and our government leaders. We confidently invite heaven’s intervention into all the affairs of our nation and we praise You in advance for Your answer.

In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.

A moment from my day
Sunday after church  we  dined at  our favorite  Chinese restaurant...  yum  then  stopped back at church  for a fabulous senior  student's  singing  recital.. what a    glorious talent...    her  program included  classical pieces,  her favorite hymns,  and    some show tunes..  what with her  grace and  acting talent  she    made   a splash  with  this  fun song!

You can hardly tell the difference between the young lady and the star  in the video!!!
she ended the program with every one's  favorite...
and then my Sweetie took me out  for a drive by ice cream!   A  lovely day for sure!!

Closing Notes:

Today we have  local elections....  I know I have to get out and vote,  but I'm still not 100% sure  for whom to vote... another  reason to pray!
