Saturday 9

Welcome to Saturday: 9.
Hosted by Samantha!
Money for Nothing (1985)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) Sweatbands are prominent in this very 1980s video. What's the last thing you wore on your head?
I wear  a variety  of hats to keep  the sun off of my face..  most recently  it was my  natural straw  hat with the  turn up brim!
Betmar Hats Straw Roll-Up Hat
2) The lyrics are from the point of view of a man who delivers and installs appliances. What's the biggest purchase you've made lately? Was it big in size or expense?
I recently purchased  an outfit  inspired by  a look I loved   in the Coldwater Creek  catalog.  It is due to arrive next week.. Which is fine as  it is really more of fall and winter...

First time I ever paid $79 for a shirt..when I've bought from CC   I do like the quality, but you pay for it for sure! NO, I didn't get the jeans... just the sweater, shirt and I am getting a new scarf to complete that look! I only got the shirt at CC  and the sweater at Land's End..The sale at LE  enabled me to also  get a pair of cords to go with this!  This is a great weekend for sales!!!

3) The delivery man of the song imagines the worst thing that happens to a musician is a blister on his little finger or thumb. Do you have any minor aches or pains bedeviling you as you answer these questions? Do both of my knees count...

4) The term "dire straits" describes a troubling situation that's difficult to extricate oneself from. When's the last time you found yourself in dire straits?
I won't go into it but I just recently did  get out of a difficult situation  and  I am very happy with the results.

5) There's a dinosaur called masiakasaurus knopfleri. It's a prehistoric, predatory lizard, and the paleontologists who discovered it were big Dire Straits fans, so they named it after lead singer/guitarist Mark Knopfler. Do you find dinosaurs fascinating, terrifying, or both?
I would have to say both, especially after watching Jurassic Park!

6) Prior to his music career, Knopfler was a junior reporter, covering the entertainment beat for the Yorkshire Evening Post. Do you believe you would make a better musician or journalist?
I think  probably a journalist...  when I really try I  am a pretty good writer!

7) In 1985, when this song was popular, rib eye steak was $3.89/pound. Today it's more than twice that. Do you have any beef in your freezer right now?
I do have a pound of ground beef,  but  the nice  steaks  were eaten this week.  We keep  ground beef  pretty much all the time,   but,  mostly, we keep chicken, pork, and fish!

8) In 1985, Michael Jordan won the NBA Rookie of the Year award after his first season with the Chicago Bulls. It was the beginning of a career that made him a hero and a household name. Who do you think today's young people look up to?
I have no idea..  I suppose Tom Brady would be  near the top. I follow golf more  ..  I really like Rory McIlroy!

9) Random question: Friends take you to dinner for your birthday. The menu you're handed doesn't have any prices on it. Do you try to estimate the costs and choose what you guess is the least expensive entree? Or do you figure that since your friends want you to have a good time, you should order whatever you want?
I have struggled with this one before...  I  do hate to  be a burden  and so I  usually try to go  on the cheaper end of the menu.

Wednesday Medley

Wednesday Medley...

Hosted by Terri!

NICE DAY – August 28
Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day - August 28

RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day on August 28th sets aside a day to remember the pet companions we’ve lost.
The death of a pet, whether furry, feathered, or an uncommon variety, is felt deeply. They become family and a familiar part of our lives. Mourning their death is different for everyone, and the observance provides a way to help heal the ache of loss.
The pain of loss is real. As each person travels through their grief, we remember the companionship and comfort they provided to us. Don’t forget that part of the relationship included care provided by you. The empty space left by the loss of a beloved pet is sometimes a difficult void to overcome.
Celebrate the home you provided and the joy your beloved pet brought you in return. When you are ready, you will know the time has arrived to find a new ‘critter’ to replace the emptiness felt. There are many animals yet to find a home. In time, you can be their new home.

HOW TO OBSERVE #RainbowBridgeRemembranceDay

Take time to enjoy memories of your pet. Look through pictures. Consider a visit to an animal shelter if you feel ready. Volunteering time may help the adjustment.  Use #RainbowBridgeRemembranceDay to share on social media.

RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY HISTORY

Deborah Barnes founded Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day in honor of her cat, Mr. Jazz. Cats are fascinating and lovable, little friends to have around the home. We miss them when they leave us. Truthfully, it’s the same with any pet.
Terri believes in the premise of the Rainbow Bridge. Rather than post five questions, she just wants the Meddlers to tell us about a special pet in your life who is no longer with you. Let's do this with love and hope rather than sadness and tears!!
GO: I suppose  the most special animal in my life was my   white cat I was given when I was 16 by my first boyfriend, Barry.  He and I loved James Bond Movies and so when he came with  a small white kitten  to give me  we decided together to call him Sean after  the best  JB ever,  Sean Connery!
I loved Sean and he was a great cat...He was  mannerly in the home and  enjoyed the great outdoors, as well.  Ashamedly, I confess we did not get him neutered..and I believe he helped populate the  neighborhood with many pure white kitties  over the years  we had him..Sometimes he'd bring his paramour home  with him...  these  always seemed like  young strays..  and   they'd have their litters    and we'd  busily  be  trying to find homes for  them..  well, actually I believe that truly only happened twice..  When I  moved to Germany  at age 22, with my new husband,  Sean stayed behind with my parents who  then were in a process of moving  ....  they had to live in an apt for a time then they moved 100 miles away...  During that time in the country,  Sean ran off and  became what I'd call a feral cat..  He was well suited for it...  and he seemed in his element when I finally came home from Germany and  would see him roamin'  the hills  like a true  wild thing!!  White cats popped up  all around the countryside for a time thereafter, ever true to his name sake!
Tell us about your week so far!
Yesterday and all night   last night was  horrid as I did the prep  for my colonoscopy today...  The procedure was a cinch,  but he did find 3 polyps  which were sent off for testing..  Praying they will be benign!

Art Imagination
1. If you could paint a landscape what would it be?
When I retired in 2003  I started taking oil painting classes from a dear friend,  and  I learned there  that I couldn't plan ahead  what I would or wanted to paint.  Once I had the brush in hand   I just suddenly knew what I  wanted or even could attempt to paint. We always  painted from  a photo or postcard, etc.   We were taught, don't paint waht you  know is there,  paint what you see!   I was a rather Impressionaistic pov!  When I saw  the teacher's  postcard of this painting and I felt, "I can do that one!"

2. If you could paint a portrait who would it be?
So  suddenly  I knew I wanted to paint our  daughter...  she  had  just  started  college at Virginia Tech and I  needed to have her closer..

3. If you could paint a geometrical form what would it be?
I wouldnt paint a geometrical form..  not fun for me!

4. If you could paint any object what would it be?
I always loved Thomas Kinkade...
this was my  model..there was more to his "light" than  adding in a  few light hues!

I believe he painted with fire!

14. Are you good at painting nails?
Well, I do my own  when I do them..  I never  got into  getting them done.. seems like a waste of money to me... But  I wish I was  better at it..  I guess I am just not  that particular  about  precision...  They look OK unless you closely examine them.. so I just keep my hands moving.. I  use them when I talk  so  to me it isn't an issue!

Neither  actually..
