Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Hosted by Sam!

On the Radio (1979)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The action begins when a letter falls out of the pocket of a brown overcoat. What color is your coat?  The coat I am wearing mostly at this time is  my loden Adirondack coat!
Adirondack Barn Coat, Flannel-Lined

2) The lyrics ask if it "kinda strikes you sad when you hear our song." We don't want to be sad this Saturday, so we're asking what song makes you happy.
The first song that popped into my mind...

3) Right before this song hit the charts, Donna Summer hit the cover of Newsweek. Are there any magazines in your home now? If yes, who is on the cover?

My range of magazines include Southern Lady, Tea Time, Victoria Bliss,  And Travelogues of Scotland and Ireland. No  people  pose for their covers!

4) Donna wrote the lyrics to this song, while producer Giorgio Moroder wrote the tune. Moroder is known as "the father of disco." Is disco a genre you enjoy?  One of my faves..and another very happy sound!!

5) This song got additional airplay throughout the 1980s because the game show The Price Is Right played it every time a contestant won a stereo. Today, the most popular audio equipment sold at Best Buy is a sound bar to improve the quality of TV audio. Have you added a sound bar or sound system to your TV? Nope

6) Moroder has won two Academy Awards for Best Song. The first was for "Flashdance ... What a Feeling" from Flashdance and the second was for "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun. Do you have a favorite movie soundtrack? So many...    oddly the first that came to mind...

I  also love among so many others,  Phantom of the Opera., The Black Stallion,   James Bond  soundtracks,,, oh, I could name    so many!

7) He grew up in Ortsei, Italy. Located in Northern Italy, the Ortsei economy is fueled by tourists who ski in winter, hike in summer and shop for woodcarvings all year around. Do out-of-towners find their way to your hometown more often in summer or winter? I would guess of those two it would be summer,  but  Spring is a beautiful time of year here in our  lovely valley... Many tourists see Roanoke in the spring via the Blue Ridge Parkway!

8) Kardashian was born in 1979, the year this record was a hit. Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been on since 2007. Have you ever seen it?Nope!

9) Random question -- When getting dressed in the morning, what's the second item of clothing you put on?I usually put on my top of the day... I like   tops  that  are worn outside.. like  tunics.

986.  I finally got to see my regular doctor  this week...  She had been    so hard to get  I suppose due to this  immense  flu and cold  season.  It was wonderful to get to  talk to her  about my shingles.. I was originally given a medicine by the PA   that  upon studying it I was  too afraid to take  because of  a condition I  have due to taking  a  bad medicine  before.. but this new medicine was    supposed to  help with shingles pain which  has been so  very difficult for me, especially during the  night hours.  So my docotr convinced me that the medicine would be fine for me and now I am feeling the benefits of taking it! Praise you, Father,  for    bringing me to this place of  healing and  peace!

987.  Also, I took my knee brace with me to  therapy this week, and   my therapist showed me the best way to wear it.  I had been having trouble with it staying up on my knee..  I'm wearing it now, and it helps  so much!    Father of Lights,  you    have again brought me into a time of relief and  gladness!!
It is so true we suffer for lack of knowledge!

988. This week my precious granddaughter  wanted to send me a message  on messenger..     She just thought of it herself  .  She is 4  and just  so precious..  my message was ...
a very cute emoticon of a bunny  throwing me  kisses... I  can't upload it here,  but  it put a huge smile on this ole face 'o mine!
Bless her pea-pickin' heart!

989.  I actually felt up to doing my Bible Study for Community Bible Study this week.  I had all five days done,  but alas, on the day  to go to class,  I had my    doctor's appointment    and couldnt go...  But I am still   feeling so much better.. I'm  doing   our next lesson this afternoon!
I've been so under the weather  for so long now that to  be feeling more like myself is  wonderuful!  Thank you, Lord...

990. Hubs has been going over to the church this week working on  an improvement project..  Getting involved in our  small,  but wonderful church has been a great blessing to us both.  It is great to be serving  there  with    those wonderful  saints.  Sharing the gifts  that the Lord has given uws  brings  great reward to the soul!

This  beautiful church  had been  in a  long decline for several  years, but  with our new pastor and  the precious remnant of  people there,    it is  a great privelege  to serve there!

And we are seeing  new  visitors coming every week!

Still seeing signs of wintry decor  about but  I just havent got it in me to    think of new decor at this time.. I  just need to turn a corner with my shingles or my knee or BOTH!

Chore I'm not looking forward to today or this week~
Oh. ANYTHING!

To relax this week, I will~really try to do what  Made to Crave teaches...  when I'm hungry, go to the Word of God first..  Fill up on  God!

On my prayer list~

Our president for protection, wisdom, courage, strength of body, clarity

For our government for transparency, truth, justice, and doing the jobs they were sent to do!

For those I know and don't know who are suffering with debilitating and worse conditions and sicknesses.. for healing, strength, perseverance, find the joy in their suffering.. especially my dear friend, Jan, who is finishing her chemo treatments which have been so hard, but now faces radiation!

For the mess in our General Assembly to get straightened out.. peacefully and with godly wisdom

Praying especially for  our  Religious freedoms to be protected and not  removed!

The lost in these divers places

For God's mercy to hover over the earth and give people rest and the forbearance to continue to persevere in their trials and testings!

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Buttons & Bows (1948)
Hosted by Sam!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics extol the beauty of "rings and things and buttons and bows." When you're getting dressed, do you give much thought to accessorizing?Only when I am getting all dressed up... church, out to dinner,  out with friends.  I am glad  our small church of  less than a hundred people  still likes to  dress nicely for church..  I think it is good to offer  our best to God in as much as possible!   I really do think people should  not  come to church in tattered jeans and  sloppy  clothes. At least something clean and neat.  I do not get super dressed up, because I do understand the premise of wanting anyone to feel comfortable.  If  someone truly has nothing else, of course,  they are welcome,  but  the  sloppiness is becoming a trend in many  churches..

2) Dinah Shore sings that she doesn't want to live where the cactus hurts her toes. Sam can sympathize, as she has a blister on one of her toes from where her winter boots rub. Do you have any aches and pains to report this morning?  I went to  the podiatrist yesterday and came home bleeding ... my poor toe!!!I won't even get into my shingles!  BAh!!

Image result for clip art sore toe
3) Dinah was such a popular entertainer that people were surprised to learn she earned a degree in sociology from Vanderbilt University. What is something we'd be surprised to know about you?  Back in the 60's  when I was a teen, my parents and I used to  go camping a couple of  times a month during spring and summer.. We slept in a tent and loved cooking over an open flame.  We enjoyed the  state parks  around Virginia.  Daddy  rigged up a chuckwagon   that was  made from a small trailer  we pulled along behind us where we stowed our gear.  Our summers culminated with a week at Lake Arrowhead at Myrtle Beach. Back in those days I was a real out -doorsy kind of girl...  I haven't seen her in decades.  A nostalgic  video  I found on youtube.

4) Dinah's was the best selling version of this song, which was introduced by Bob Hope in the movie The Paleface. Hope had success early in his career as a song-and-dance man on Broadway. Are you better at telling jokes, singing or dancing?I can't tell a good joke well,  and I do not dance much anymore, so I suppose it would be singing..  although my voice is lower  now than it used to be .

5) Both Bob and Dinah donated their time to entertaining the troops in WWII. It was during a USO tour that Dinah met and fell in love with actor George Montgomery, who was serving in the Air Force. They were married for 20 years and had two children.

Their daughter followed her parents into show business and became an actress. If a young person asked you for career advice, what would you tell them? Follow your heart ...choose something that you  really love to do or learn about.  Do not let  career advancement or salary be your #1  consideration.

6) Dinah was an avid golfer and even sponsored an LPGA tournament. She was also an excellent cook who hosted TV cooking segments. Which would you find more relaxing -- an afternoon on the golf course or in the kitchen? I used to love to play golf, but hubs and I both  just stopped playing about 15 years ago.  So   now it would have to be the kitchen..

7) In 1948, the year this record was a hit, Scrabble was introduced. Do you prefer word games, card games, board games or jigsaw puzzles?I love them all but at this season of life I find myself playing more word games   and doing  puzzles on my tablet.

8) Also in 1948, LPs (33 1/3 rpm records) were introduced. Do you have any vinyl records in your home? We have all of our  33 1/3 albums from the 60's and 70's.  We do have  turn table that still works but we rarely play them because you can find everything on computer,  but still,  we like them!

9) Random question -- Which of these would you consider the greatest insult: to be called boring, untrustworthy or stupid?  Definitely, untrustworthy.  That would  break my heart.. I would certainly  want to know why    or what I could have done to    make them feel that way.. I  know I could be boring to some because I am  often very at home with my thoughts,  or doing Bible study, and I know I am stupid  especially  at trying to figure out  my new  MAC....  random question.....  why did blogger do away with spell checker...I need it!!

Tuesday 4 Meme

Welcome to Tuesday 4 which was started  by Toni Taddeo and kept up in memory and honor of her.  Hosted by our friend, Ann!!
How about talking about cosmetics and toiletries this week?

Let's jump right in, shall we?

1. What brand of shampoo do you think works best for you and what does it do for you?

I  suppose people will call me El Cheapo,  but I really do like Sauve products..
Suave Professionals Volumizing Shampoo, 12.6 oz, Size: 14, Multicolor
I love their Professional line of products..  This volumizing    shampoo  really does give my limp hair life and  I love how squeaky clean it makes my hair!!!

2. Do you have a favorite  brand and shade of lipstick and blush?

ever since  was  in college I  have gone for the peachy  colors...  or  apricot..  My roommate used to call me peachy because I had a peaches and cream complexion  For  this late in the winter season I would love this   Blushed  shade!Revlon #420...  Revlon products have never let me down!

I like    my blush to be   cream... because  my skin is so dry.. right now I am using Elizabeth Arden's  cream  blush in a tone very similar to that lipstick color!  Just a bit lighter.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Cream Blush, Plum

3. Is soap your favorite for face washing or do you use other products?

I must use very mild soaps.  I generally use Dove or Olay soap.

4. Do you have an all time favorite perfume or scent that you wear? If you don't wear perfumes, is there a scent that you love in general?
Since college I have enjoyed wearing White Shoulders, because Hubs loves it so much!
White Shoulders Eau de Cologne Spray - 0.85 fl oz
I use it  any season,, it has a soft and sweet  aromatic that doesnt linger on me  and  feel    to brazen!

The weather~

I wore my coat to therapy this morning, but by noon, that coat was way too much!!I wonder if this trend is ongoing, or if winter will sneak back in?!?

How I am feeling this morning~

I am afraid I have a bit of a head cold.. but the nerve pain today has been minimal! That is a very good thing!

On my mind~

So I had a great therapy this morning, and I am looking forward to going to the salon in the morning.. my slouchy locks need some attention. My appointment came in for the same time of another scheduled event, but I had already decided that I would hold off on that for another week as I have a similar event scheduled for later in the day. Just juggling my regular schedule in the attempt to work myself back into my routine... even though I am better, I still get tired so easily.. and that brings on the nerve pain!

On the breakfast plate~

Hubs fixed my yogurt and coffee before therapy and then midmorning he took me for a light brunch. This results in an early supper of leftover Chinese this afternoon!

On my reading pile~

The book of James, in association with an online study of James by Jen Wilken!
Made to Crave

This is for my evening Bible Study on how to make healthy eating habits

On my TV~
We spent time watching and awaiting the Daytona race yesterday but the rain washed it out.. so we will try again this afternoon!
I am still enjoying You tube videos on the Uk and Ireland

On the menu this week~

Monday~left over Chinese

Tuesday~ BBQ Pork loin strips, salad, baked potato

Wednesday~out with friends

Thursday~ Half a sub and caesar salad

Friday~ Crab cakes, garlic mashed potatoes, salad

From the camera~

These are the gorgeous roses had Hubs sent to me... 18 glorious long stemmed beauties!!

Looking around the house~

Hopefully, this week, I will put away anything that looks wintry and beging thinking Easter!!!

Chore I'm not looking forward to today or this week~

It would be going down and finding the winter decor box.. I will try to go while Hubs is down there... He'll have to carry it anyway!

To relax this week, I will~
Read my worship book that Amanda gave me for Christmas!
