Saturday 9

Welcome to Saturday: 9. Hosted  by Samantha!

Saturday 9: Buttered Popcorn (1961)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This Saturday, the treat's on Sam. Will you have buttered popcorn, caramel corn or cheese popcorn?Well, I do not like wet, gooey hot butter poured over my popcorn, but when I buy it at the market, I always choose Buttered popcorn!  Does that make sense?  In college  the snakc machine offered cheese pop corn and and drink machine offered   Orange Crush soda.  What a duo...  I  spent quite a few coins on this remarkable  delicacy during my years in the dorm!
Cheddar Cheese – Yum Yum's Gourmet Popcorn
Now that looks like autumn!!!

2) This record represents the Supremes as they are seldom heard. Florence Ballard is singing lead, with background vocals provided by Mary Wilson, Barbara Martin and Diane Ross. That's right, "Diane." Her parents meant for her to be named "Diane," and that's what old friends and family still call her, but the hospital mistakenly put her name down as "Diana." Motown execs thought "Diana Ross" had a better sound and the rest, as they say, is history. Do you often make typos? Or are you careful and precise at the keyboard?
Oh my,  typos are my middle name.. I type as fast as I   talk and   I seldom remember to go back and double check.. Sorry..  oh,  but  messaging is the worst..  Between my typos and   the  type correct   mesenger uses  friends  tell me it is like reading a foreign language!  Also, I am very upset that blogger has done away with spell check!  bah!!!

3) Barbara Martin left the Supremes in 1962, before they reached stardom, because she was a new mom and wanted to stay home with her baby. Have you ever found yourself in the difficult position of having to choose between your personal and professional lives?  All the time while I was teaching..  my professional life most often took precedent.  Thank goodness we had  summer vacation and  a nice  Christmas  vcation, too!!! Of course, non teachers  must realize we weren't under contract over the summer so  we weren't paid  those months.  We were given the choice to  take a lower salary all year to make up a pay check for those  summer months!  I have met folks thorught eh years  who thought teachers were terrible for getting paid for  days they didn't work!.

4) Florence Ballard's cousin, Hank, wrote the famous Chubby Checkers dance record, "The Twist." When did you last get on your feet and dance?  I did today actually while decorating the living room for fall!

5) Mary Wilson stayed with the group until it disbanded in 1977. She has said that one of her most memorable moments came in 1968, when the group performed for Princess Margaret. Mary recalled that the Princess loudly asked if Mary's hair was real or a wig. Mary was shocked, expecting better behavior from a royal. Tell us a time when someone's behavior shocked you. I am shocked all the time  by things I  see  and hear on tv  that  were unheard of just   a  few years ago.    Will there ever be a line  they will not cross!

6) In 1961, when this song was released, the TV show Hazel premiered and was a top 5 hit for NBC. Oscar winner Shirley Booth played the title character, a very capable and lovable maid. If Crazy Sam could have a maid for just a few hours today, she'd love to have her refrigerator cleaned and kitchen cabinets organized. If you could have a pair of helping hands around your house this afternoon, what would you ask the maid to do?
Organize  my seasonal decor.. the boxes are in  some disorder and  now that we have  new  shelving I would love someone to go down and organize it..  I haven't physically be able to do anything about it yet...

7) Also in 1961, President John F. Kennedy appeared on the cover of Time as their Man of the Year. Are there any magazines in your home right now? If so, who is on the cover?I do not take that type of magazine..  we  take one on Scotland, Great Britain,   and at the market I  sometimes buy Victoria Bliss and   Southern Lady.

8) Ernest Hemingway died in 1961. Have you read any of his works?Only for high school.. One I remember is the Old Man and the Sea...

9) Random question: How many pancakes are in the perfect stack? 3

Wednesday Hodge Podge

Welcome to The Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

From this Side of the Pond

1. The Hodgepodge lands on National Dog Day this year (August 26th). Do you own a dog? Did you have a dog when you were growing up, or maybe some other kind of pet? Would you say you're more of a dog person or a cat person? Neither is okay too : )
I suppose you’d have to say I was a cat girl. I grew up with cats, as a little girl. I had a beautiful white kitten that I named Snowball. She definitely made an impression on me to love white kiddies, even though she died before she grew to maturity. I always thought foul play was involved! We had mean teenagers who lived behind us!
Then my first boyfriend was Barry when I was 15.  He gave me my favorite kiddie...another gorgeous white kitten...a male we named Sean Connery, because it was 1965 and we loved going to the Bond movies. My family loved Sean, and he lived with us for 7 wonderful years, but once I went to college and my parents moved to the country,  Sean decided he loved walking on the wild side and so he took to the hills.  We.d see him ever so often and saw his progeny for years after.   Many generations of white country cats turned up for several years!

2. Last time you felt 'dog tired'?   I’ve been dog tired enough to know that I will do anything not to get dog tired again.  I used to get so dog tired on our one field trips for my fourth graders.  The stress, the long walking, the hot, sun pouring down on us, the responsibility, all would pile up on me. During those later years of teaching. What I had so looked forward to in my younger years, suddenly became a drudgery after I turned 50!
I remember going on a trip to Williamsburg with my girlfriend teacher friends.  After touring the beautiful restorations, then we hide ourselves over to the Waccamaw Potteries and then the outlet stores.  Now dragging back to our hotel, I was probably as tired as I have ever been. My feet hurt up to my ears.  My sweet friend, Becky, offered to massage my feet after my shower, and I know that is what saved my life!

3. It's said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. When did you last prove this idiom true or prove it wrong?
I really cannot think of a definitive response to this one!

4. A favorite book, television show, or movie featuring a dog. Why did you love it?I have to agree with our host, Joyce.  We both chose Where the Red Fern Grows.  My students knew I read the book to them, but usually toward the end of the year to ease the agony of this long, long days. They knew the premise of the book and often begged me to read it as early as February.  It was all I could do to postpone the treat, it was such a great treat to me, as well.  Why, you ask? There are so many coming of age moments throughout the story....learning responsibility,  making judgments of what is truly important, experiencing  joy  to the life altering experience of life and death.  And all this in a very different culture from that of  our students.. in a different time, and  socio-economic climate.   My ten year olds really hung on every word.

5. Last time you had reason to (literally or figuratively) exclaim 'hot diggity dog'?

With all our dreams of going as planned and paid for to Ireland in July with our daughter’s family going down the drain because of co-vid, and the slim chance of getting to ever see our grand children in person this year,
I think I may have exclaimed “hot- dignity” on the phone in July when they said they were planning a couple of week vacation to split between us and Joshua’s parents.  And it really was a diggity- dog visit.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.I am afraid that the quarantine has beat me.  We finally were given the choice of face to face prayer meeting, but only after half a dozen meetings, tonight I am opting for the zoom meeting.  Feeling too lazy to go out.  Oh, my, I've got it bad!

Tuesday 4

Soda Pop!

Welcome to Tuesday 4 which was started by our friend Toni Taddeo
and kept up in memory of her.Different sections of the USA have
different words and customs they use. Let's talk about
them.     Hosted by Annie.

1. In New Jersey you put your groceries in a paper bag or plastic bag.  In Athens, Ohio where I went to university, you put them in a paper sack.
Is it bag , sack or something else where you live? In our area there are paper bags and plastic sacks. We prefer paper bags, with handles.

2. NJ says  Stockings.Athens,  Ohio used to call them "hose" and in Britain they are tights. What about where you live?
Some call them stockings, hose or tights.  I rarely wear them now, but it I do I prefer opaque tights.

3.Soda, Pop, Coke? Dr. Pepper.

4. Shopping cart or trolley or? What do you call it?Shopping cart ,

or just cart.

Saturday 9

I See Love

Welcome to Saturday: 9. Hosted by Sam!

I See Love (2010)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) This is the theme from Mike and Molly, a TV show that ran from 2010 to 2016. Were you a fan?

I never heard of it!

2) Molly was played by Melissa McCarthy. Today she's one of Hollywood's best-paid actresses, but when she began her career, she was barely scraping by. She recently recalled the time when, as a struggling actress, she was rejected at the ATM because it only gave out $20s and she didn't have even that much in her checking account. How often do you visit the ATM? Several times a week? Several times a month? Never?
I never visit it,  hubs does  probably once a month.

3) When she was broke, Melissa couldn't afford blueberries and avocados. Now she savors them. When you're a few bucks ahead, what do you splurge on?
Latrely, I suppose it is  ordering  clothing form my favorite  catalog...  trying to  preplace  clothing I have  reduced out of . I love
pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/760505181603856385...

4) Mike was played by Billy Gardell. He was working at a comedy club, cleaning the bathrooms and answering the phone. He used to crack jokes with other employees and finally one of his coworkers dared him to go onstage on "open mic night." A comedy career was born. Tell us about someone who pushed you to make the right move.
My dear  friend, Pam, and  co-worker at school  was a very innovative reading teacher who loved   doing inservices    on teaching reading   at  conferences.  She wanted a partner  to go in with her to write a book  on her    ideas and develop  a hand’s on  handbook .  I  wasnt too sure I was  wanting to do this   but I started spending  long hours  after school writing and creating our handbook   and  soon  she was  writing up proposals for us to lead breakout groups  at conferences  all over the east coast.  Therein, began a  great  season of our careers.  We traveled to Charleston, WV, Richmond, Lynchburg, Norfolk, Charlottesville,

and Alexandria, Va.  And our favorite to Charleston, S.C. at the Omni there.

5) On the show, Mike's best friend was his fellow officer, Carl McMillan. Carl was not especially motivated and still lived with his grandmother, well into his 30s. How old were you when you moved out of the house for good?
I was 21.

6) Mike's and Molly's mothers are different as night and day and frequently did not get along. Have you ever had in-law trouble?  Yes.

7) This week's song was written by Keb Mo. He switches among several different guitars when he works -- electric, acoustic and resonator. Can you play guitar?
No.

8) In 2010, when this show premiered, Apple introduced the iPad. Do you use a tablet?
Yes!

9) This week's random question gives you an opportunity to brag: What's something you do better than most people?
I am accomplished in  many things but I never thought bout being better than anyone. I have no idea.

Wednesday Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond

Hosted by Joyce!
1. Five years ago this month hubs and I relocated from New Jersey to the Palmetto State. What were you doing five years ago this month?

We were visiting our daughter and  first granddaughter   near Boston.  Lil Birdie would be turning two in just a few weeks  and we were there to celebrate with her!

2. What was the last 9-5 job you worked? Tell us about it.

I never really worked 9-5.  My first real job was working 9-9 at G C Murphy  working the  cash register  over summer and  winter vacation while I was in college!  That job made me glad I'd  never have to  work those hours again!

3. Plead the fifth, high five, take five, it's five o'clock somewhere, or the big 5-0...which number five phrase relates to your life in some way currently? Tell us how.  Well, I sujpppose the first thing I thought of  not 5 but 7.  I  recently turned the great 7-0.  There I said  it and I have nothing else to say!

4. During this season of spending so much time at home, what distractions get in the way of being your most productive? Or have you been extra productive since this whole thing started?

I, like our hostess, definitely need  a bit of pressure to get anything done.  I get into  a  real lazy zone if  I have nothing pushing me.  That is why it is a good thing to  have  someone  coming over to get me motivated to  get  something worthwhile done!    But I am reading Ruth Simons's book and it is not only gorgeous  it  really  brings out the creative in me.  so I have ordered  water color paints and  paper to  let her  painting inspire me to  put some paint on paper and  do it all for the glory of God

An example of Ruth's work following!

GraceLaced Book - Ruth Chou Simons

5.  Make us a list here of your top five anything.
The Bible, Yuja Wang, Great Britain, Dougie MacLean, Chinese food

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My hubs is testting me.. He has  decided not to go to  Prayer meeting with me tonight  and just stay home and  zoom  it..  If I go it will be first tme I've ventured out alone in the evening  in months... I still  thinking... I'm not sure how I  feel about it yet!

Tuesday 4

A Matter of Time

Welcome to Tuesday 4, a collection of 4 questions each week.
It is kept up in honor and memory of our dear friend Toni
Taddeo, the founder of the meme , by Annie.

Let's discuss time!
1. Are meals eaten at certain times in your home or are
they more spontaneous?  I am pretty much ingrained to
eat lunch at 11:30 because that was my school schedule
for 37 years, but  sometimes I will eat at elevenses and
enjoy a bit of breakfast food.
When I cook I try to have it ready by 5.  When we eat out
with friends  it is usually 6:30.

    Elevenses Tea
2. If you attend religious services or club meetings, are
they morning, afternoon or evening? Are there advantages/
disadvantages to that time?  We attend both church meetings
at morning and evening. I love being together with my church
 family!

3.Are you in bed and up in the mornings at a regular time
each day?  I am  pretty regular.. bed by 10:30,and up by 8.

4.Do you set apart specific times during the day or week
to do certain things like study, shopping, laundry,
visiting?  Not really, we are  pretty spontaneous
 in
 those things!

Prayer Requests:
Our president for protection, wisdom, courage, strength of body, clarity

For our government  (William Barr)  for justice to be applied to the corruption that has plagued our country for some time
For this coronavirus to stop in its tracks and not spread any more... Lord, protect the elderly and those in compromised health situations. Protect the health providers and the families where the virus is bringing suffering. I pray that this week we will begin to see a great decline in the number of deaths and the numbers o f healed will increase in Jesus name!.
I pray for inner healing in our nation regarding the ongoing problem with racism and it effects in our society. May the rioting stop in the name of Jesus..  I pray that the Antifa group would  dry up and  disband in Jesus name.  I pray for exponential wisdom  and truth to fall upon our media outlets. They seem to exist to keep turmoil riled up instead of bringing clarity to the situation. I pray they seek things of good repute to report on instead of always the bad..I pray they realize that pouring gasoline on a fire is more damaging than letting it go out of its own accord. I pray for people of every nation, color and creed to learn to live amicably together, that love would heal the divisions in our country. I pray the schemes of the devil that instill more and more unrest to stop in the name of Jesus.  I pray that the demolishing of our national  treasures will stop in Jesus name..   You can not change history through this detruction!

Special prayers for Hobert, Kohanna, Ellie, who have very special and immediate needs.
The lost in these divers places , that they will realize their need for a Savior and turn to God through Jesus!
For God's mercy to hover over the earth and give people rest and the forbearance to continue to persevere in their trials and testings!

Welcome to Saturday 9.
Hosted by Samantha!

Saturday 9: Who Are You? (1977)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song, originally recorded by The Who, was the theme of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which ran from 2000 to 2015. Did you wat ch it? Were you a fan?

I do not enjoy  any CSI series.

2) When the show premiered, Gil Grissom (William Petersen) was the CSI team's supervisor. Gil's mother was deaf, and so he was fluent in American Sign Language. Can you communicate using ASL?
Very little,  but some!

3) His assistant is blood-splatter analyst Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger). Catherine's family moved often, which made it hard for her to get traction in her studies. She finally just dropped out of high school. She later got her GED, and even graduated from college. Have you ever considered going back to school?
I pondered my need to  go back for my Master's Degree years ago, and  finally decided no, it wasn't worth it..

4) Though set in Las Vegas, most of CSI was filmed in Santa Clarita, CA. Santa Clarita is also home to Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. Do you enjoy roller coasters?
I love to watch them  I did ride the Shooting Star once and that was enough!
It  was  built for Lakeside Park near my home and  thrilled riders for decades.  Listening to the clickety clack up the track adds  a lot of  excitement as  you  rise up over the tip top of a long  drop!
Shooting Star - Lakeside Park (Salem, Virginia, United States)

5) The vocalist on the CSI theme, Roger Daltry of the Who, made a cameo appearance on the show during season 7. Do you have a favorite Who song?
I liked I can See for Miles.

6) CSI became a franchise, followed by CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. If we could organize a Saturday 9 field trip, which of these CSI cities would you prefer we visit: Las Vegas, Miami or New York?
None of them  for various reasons.

7) In 2000, the last original Peanuts comic strip was published. How many Peanuts characters can you name?
Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schoeder, Peppermint Patty,  Little Red Haired Girl, Pig Pen

8) Also in 2000, media giant Time Warner merged with America Online, the email provider. It's estimated that 74% of us check our email at least once/day. Are you one of the 74%?
Absolutely!
9) Random question -- Did you more recently cut and paste, or delete?

I cut and pasted the link to  the Who song on this post!
