Friday Fave Five

Hosted by Susanne.

It is always great to share all  that  blessings  God has  allowed us during the week!

  • Earlier this week, our daughter celebrated  her 36th birthday...   I am saddened we didn't get to celebrate with her, but happily she will be with us  starting in a bit over a week!  Glory to God! I didn't remind her, but I will, .. when I was much younger I used to  wonder, what would be  my happiest year of life..  I mean  when I in was high school,  and  I  suddenly knew it would be my 36th  year.  I looked forward to it,  and was very hopeful! Praise God,  We  finally held our adopted daughter in our arms in November 1985, my 35th year.. I enjoyed that whole next year,  nurturing and loving our sweet and beautiful baby girl that God had  allowed to join our family!  I've been celebrating  that 36th year ever since!

  • We have continued to purge various areas pf our home.. This week  I purged  the cabinets in the kitchen.  It was wonderful to  purge at least  3 shelves to make room for  other  things  that had no home of their own!  Things really are looking  so much better around the house!
  • In our new church, ever since   the dreaded season of covid finally opened up,  it was  very difficult to get  the  Wednesday night regulars  to  come back for the  earlier hour of  fellowship.  We  three families who  had  most recently joined the church  had been dedicated from the beginning to  bring our  dinner  to dine together  and  reestablish our  fellowship with the church at large,  But for all this time it was always just the three of us families.  This week things changed. Several families came, brought their dinner early, and  kindred spirits  were  getting together once one in friendship and harmony as  is so  precious  in church fellowship!
  • As I have been purging  new areas around the home,  I happened up on a stack of artwork that was  standing on end  behind the sofa in the den of all places.. Over the years,  when new art  came into the house,  unfortunately  some other  work had to  come down  to make room on our walls. We have very limited  space on walls in our home.. There are so many doorways and windows...  so  I decided to work with Lynn and create a gallery wall in the den.  It involved actually  baring  the walls and the  whole side to the room to make way for Lynn and his tools,, He began by actually using the swifter  mop to clean the dust from the walls,  What a great way to  do that. It was very  quick! Then the measuring began.

It was quite an arduous undertaking...  measuring and   making sure it was above the chair and  below the  border...   but finally  all was  accomplished..  We decided the portrait of our daughter would  anchor the setting.  The rest of the  art work  rather  told a story of our life..

We had the portrait made when Amanda was  7  and  was well on her way to becoming  a virtuoso on the violin.  She had  started her lessons at age 4  but  really that was a throw away year.   Although, it did help grow her maturity in working with another adult!

IN 1979, Lynn and I  were    most  desirous to own a work of  a dear friend and distant   relative who painted the most exquisite natural and floral paint-
ings using  a new medium.  I loved the Galax leaves and primal  forest look of her work,  So we pinched pennies and   soon became the owner of this  beautiful  work..  Over time the painting has faded to some degree,  and that was  really the reason we took it down previously,  but  I still think it is beautiful and  so we are now still able to enjoy it!
I didn't  get a photo of the next two..  but they depict a  fabulous oil painting of the apples  and an actual photograph of my great great grand father and **grand mother.  They lived in the mid 1800's  and   he served in the south  during the Civil War.  He actually fought in the Battle of Atlanta. I have  a letter he wrote back to his sister during the conflict.  He represents the English side of our genealogy.  His  family  hailed from the Cotswold area of England.

There are these two  prints of  European castles … the top I actually purchased at our church Yard sale for 2 dollars,  but it is an actual  French Chateau which I thought our grand daughters would love!  The other  is   a Kinkade print I purchased at a  gently used sale  of a  gorgeous  English castle. These represent again  some our genealogy  and how our line actually does go back to theMiddle Ages and  our kinsmen  served as knights in both those gorgeous countries!

I love now how it looks upon entering the room.   There is a presence  in there that didnt  exist  previously! Gallery walls rock!

  • Another great benefit of doing this wall today  has been  the  extent in which we took time in between to  really deeply clean the room.  I organized  some items on this bookcase I purged  in the beginning  over a month ago.. and   now the den is  in tip top shape  for  our guests coming soon!

Wednesday Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond
Hosted by Joyce!

1. Four words that tell us something about your July? Hot, busy,  planning, purging  and decluttering

2. Four of your favorite summer foods?  melons,  salads of all kinds, chicken dishes.. tonight we are having  Chicken stir fry

3. What were you doing at a quarter past four yesterday? I was  chatting on the phone with my dear friend Gerri  and we were planning    our  church committee  business,  and  talking about what we hoped to do the rest of the summer.  We spoke about a Bible Study we are  both beginning tomorrow on the Minor Prophets, beginning with Joel!

4. Fore!, four letter word, four sheets to the wind, ten-four, 24/7, four eyes, these four walls....pick a 'four' phrase and tell us how you relate currently. Well,  one of the 4 walls  are in my sight  this week.  I am planning on hanging some artwork  previously I took down    when I purchased something new or    had  a  family  portrait to  put up..  Now that I see how gallery walls are in vogue,  I  am planning a gallery wall in my den, and  we are actually adding 4   painting to it..

5. Something you own that is four years old? I believe the  melamine plates I purchased  ago  that  match  the colors in my  summer   china are about 4 years old.  I bought them  to  have to set at the grand daughter's  place  when they visit!!   have them out now so I have them out now as I am planning   for their visit in less than 2 weeks!

6. Insert your own random thought here.I am dreading going to church tonight.  Here it is 5pm and it is 101 degrees!   Bah hum bug!!

Tuesday 4

Welcome to Tuesday 4 in memory of Toni Taddeo.

Hosted by Annie!

This week we have some questions from Pamela Steiner once again.

I hope you enjoy them.

1.  Let's pretend that it is 50 years into the future, and explorers have just discovered your house, "frozen in time" exactly as it is today. Everything is preserved, even the food, but of course no one has lived there for fifty years.  What do you think would be their first reaction as they walk in the door of your house?  What a mess!  I have been wrapping presents  for our  girls who a re coming in two weeks..  the wrappings are all over the dining room.. The living room is topsy turvy because I tossed down the summer pillows  to  add to the  chairs and they a re every_ where.. Also, I have been taking notes on  the book of  Joel which I will  take with me to our study  tomorrow.  Right now they are on the chair, the floor and side table,,  quite    royal  mess in itself   Upstairs is looking good,  but  downstairs !  YIKES! Oh, also, the sunroom is the staging area for all the boxed  items  I have purged this summer which are awaiting the day, finally, when  Lynn says. "It's donate day!!!"

2.  What would the things left in your house tell the explorers about you?We are multi-taskers..  We live in   areas of organized messes..    well, each  mess will be organized before the end of the day! We lead  interesting lives.

3.  What kinds of books would they discover on your bookshelves or beside your chair/bed?  Many  Christian based books, Bible studies, books on prayer, and devotionals.  Many historical novels, and many household fix-it books!

4.  What things would they discover in your closets or cabinets that would make them wonder why on earth you were saving it?HAHAA,  If I wondered that I would probably not be keeping it.As It is I keep things that just might come in handy someday.  I mean we have  at least 5 beach towels upstairs. When I purged the   closet I thought maybe Amanda will take them home with her when she comes. Otherwise they will be gone  but the end of Aug. I  am also hoping Amanda will take a set of Christmas glasses I  never use and a set of  dinner plates   that I really think she needs.. Fingers crossed.

Friday Fave 5

HOSTED BY SUSANNE!

It is always  good to  count  our blessings...   so here we go!

We are so looking forward to our daughter and her family coming to visit in a couple of weeks. We will be celebrating birthdays, mine, Amanda's and our oldest granddaughter, Birdie!! We have been busy ordering gifts and I have several to wrap this week. I was into finding back to school clothes, and a few I am so glad I wavered on ordering the craft kits... because I found the perfect bracelet kits at Hobby Lobby this week!

Here they are at home playing with their dolls..    They so seldom play dolls I  was thrilled to  get this photo from Amanda!  I hope they will play dolls while here!  I have  Amanda's old dolls  in  great shape ready to go..

I am getting my art supplies ready and planning some art activities.. Our girls love to draw and paint. They have gotten into gardening this summer and love to paint veggies and flowers. So Im hoping we can offer some new specimens with which to work!

One of the best blessings for me prior to their visit is the time I've spent getting our home ready for their visit.. Last year when Amanda was here she helped us purge a lot from our basement. We still have a way to go, but it started us on our purging adventure! I have purged our books, dvds, cd,s, the linen closet, my clothing. and cleaned out my closet, which is in the guest room, btw! Yesterday, I purged my bedside tables and drawers.. This weekend I will be working in the other bedroom, actually where the girls will sleep..  I purchased a few new things for the room  at Hobby Lobby. I will  post photos soon!

While I was purging I have run across several works of art that over time have been stored away due to new artwork being purchased.. Our home has pretty limited walls pace, except in the den, there is a longer wall without much on it. Now that gallery walls are so popular, I have decided to try to reorder the art on the wall already and decide how to incorporate the stored art with it. I think it will look awesome!!!

I have so many ideas for the dining room floating in my mind. It is time to change it up the dining room,, using different china ware and colors.. Thinking of the birthdays up-coming I want something happy and exciting. I will try to get this done today and photos up on this page before too long!!

HERE IT IS!!

I think I am glad I have lots to do inside this week!

♥♥How I am feeling this morning♥♥
After riding in the car so long yesterday,  and the rain we were getting, I was
really stiff all over.  I really do not like this stiffness I experience most mornings!

 ♥♥On the breakfast plate♥♥
Early we enjoyed our coffee and yogurt, but by mid- morning we were on the
road to Christiansburg to shop at Hobby Lobby. So Lynn stopped midway for
a lovely breakfast which included my favorite biscuit and gravy.  So few places
can make really good country gravy like my mama’s.

♥♥On my reading pile♥♥

We are still doing Lord, I want to Know You, by Kay Arthur, in

Wednesday Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond

Hosted by Joyce!
1. Tell us about one small blessing you have counted in the past week?

I was  praising the Lord this morning in prayer meeting  that  one by one  my  medical tests came back negative.. my chest expat,  the endoscopy, and finally the  biopsies taken  of my throat.  Again, thank you, Lord!

2. Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14th...have you ever been to France? Any desire to visit there, and if so what would site or city would you most want to see? (pretend for a minute international travel isn't an issue)

I think France would be a lovely place to visit.  I hear  that Paris is  pretty filthy, so  I'm not into that so much,  but  the Riviera area and southern France would be marvelous!

Landmark, Town, Mountain village, Human settlement, Natural landscape, Village, Tourism, Sky, City, Building,
3. A food associated with France that you love?

believe  that French desserts  really tantalize me.  just surprise me, please!
5 French Desserts That Are Too Yummy To Miss - NDTV Food
4. Something you recently purchased where a coupon was involved? Do you regularly shop with coupons?

I placed an order online which had a promo code.. I believe it was Cold Water Creek.. the outfit I ordered to wear to a funeral this weekend.
image of Pattern Play Crinkle Skirt, Multi 0All About Texture Sweater Tee, Amber, large
5. You have to give something away this week...what will it be?

I have bags and boxes of really nice books I have purged  just sitting in the sunroom.  Add to that  a bag of clothes, and a bag of socks.  I still need to purge the linen closet. I am sure I have some table cloths and linens to add to  this  load  that we will take to  donate this week!

6. Insert your own random thought here. This morning at prayer/Bible Study we finished a really  amazing study on the book of Judges  which demonstrated just how  far  the US has fallen, much like Israel,  during the time of the Judges,  when the people did what they thought was right in their own eyes.. Whether we have good government or not, we still have  moral and righteous  tenets  for living spelled out in the Word of God.  He is  our Judge and  we should be living according to HIs precepts. When people begin to do what they see fit in their own eyes,  they usually end up getting what they deserve,  the  bad fruit of their decision and actions.  People of God need to press in  for  God's Truth and live more righteously so we might see a turn around for our nation!  Decide today to Seek God's Will in all things we  do!

Tuesday 4

Books.. TV.. Movies

Hosted by Annie!

Hello Friends.. welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Books.. TV.. Movies are the topic of the week.

1 A movie theme song will play every time you walk in the room.. what is it? (consider

 asking family or friends)

2. What movie, book or TV program could you live in?

The Quiet Man

or any movie filmed in peaceful, countryside of Ireland!
3. Is there a book/movie/TV quote you often think about or that effects you in some way?

"I shall not be able to adore God on the highest occasions if I haven't learned the habit of

doing so on the lowest. At best our faith and reason will tell us that He is adorable, but we

shall not have tasted and seen! Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something

about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure

and spontaneous pleasures are patches of Godlight in the woods of our experience."

C.S. Lewis

It is  when we experience God   that  we begin to  really know Him more intimately!

4. OK friend, its your turn to organize our Blogger Movie Night where we get together as

a group for snacks and movies!  What movies have you planned for us tonight and what

snacks are we going to have?

We would have a 1966 film revival  with Audrey Hepburn  and two  amazing leading men!

Peter O'Toole and Albert Finney

I would serve homemade Chef Boyardee pizza   and fondue

♥♥How I am feeling this morning♥♥

I was so very excited this morning. Today is the second Monday of the month
and  therefore,  it is  prayer Monday.  We meet every second and fourth
Monday.  We just began this initiative in June and we started out with  5
praying friends from our church.   Today two  of our  friends  had other
commitments  so I was expecting  our small little group of 3 ,  but  praise
the Lord, two new  folks from church joined us.  Glory to God, thank you,
Jesus.  The Lord told me to  start this  church prayer group  and  He is
faithful to see itgrow! I love you, Lord!!!

 ♥♥On the breakfast plate♥♥

Coffee, fruited yogurt,  a blueberry waffle and  two strips of  crisp bacon.
Thank you, Lynn  for such a delightful  breakfast!!

♥♥On my reading pile♥♥

We are still doing Lord, I want to Know You, by Kay Arthur, in
Sunday school, but  I  got three new books last week for my birth-
day.   The Prayer Box, by Lisa Wingate, Hannah Coulter, by
Wendell Berry, and The Women of the Bible Speak, by Shannon
Bream..  I hardly know where to begin.  If you  can share anything
about any of these  books,  please help  me!

Monday- Chinese    leftovers  from Szechuan,  Garlic chicken and
                     fried rice
Tuesday-  mashed potatoes, and   baked chicken,  salad
Wednesday - takeout from  the Roanoker
Thursday- dinner with friends  at the Deli
Friday-   baked cod  , baked potato, and slaw

♥♥From the camera♥
Last week Amanda sent me  a gorgeous box of  fresh flowers...     flowers I
didn't even know the name of..  and they are  still blooming so beautifully!!!

These gorgeous flowers  filled two  vases...!  So I took  various shots to  enjoy their beauty!

I just love them!!!

♥♥Looking around the house♥♥
I  sort of  got out of the mood for purging  last week..  Since  our girls
are coming to celebrate birthdays in August, I   have  doing a bit of
ordering   gifts and   planning  a party.  So  I haven't been  paying
too much attention to the house either.   It is straight  for unexpected
guests, but  I've done nothing special. Every time I pass through the
dining room,  I stop to enjoy my flowers!!!

♥♥What am I listening to♥♥
Lynn is listening to a local sports talk show on the radio while he is
washing the dinner dishes...

♥♥Something I want to share♥♥

I am just copying what they wrote about their vlog."Living Traditions Homestead
is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has
gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings
this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and
after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and
take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

Friday's Fave 5
