Friday's Fave Five

Welcome to FFF!  Hosted by Susanne!

Time seems to fly from one week to the next!  We live in a high  pollen area  and I have been highly affected... Even though I get allergy shots every week  and have for years.. the pollen still   wears me down. I didn't make it to church or to Bible Study this week. I do  hope to go to Prayer meeting tonight!
💧💧💧💧💧
I am so very thankful for the   soaking rain we have gotten over the last couple of days...  even though our basement did get a bit of water in the wash room,  the  pollen is  languishing in the ground  now.  We will have more    rain in a few days.. Perhaps  it will   do away with the last  bit  still  to  emanate from our lovely  trees!
💪💪💪💪💪💪
Last week I  was  evaluated on  how much I had improved in therapy, and I  was able to start my second  round    of four weeks.. I have promised to  get more  therapy in  here at home..   and since we have no  trips   or other  encumbrances, I am well on my way  to  following up on my promise. I am  doing  my round of exercises every other day which  is  good..  Thank you, Lord  for   leading me in this endeavor!!!
👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀
I have plans to do a bit  more reading than  I have been able to do of late.  I was able to read  a lovely   novel  over  last weekend.. mainly while we were driving, and   I enjoyed it so much more than I had  for some time. I  have a couple of books on my  mantel   I am anxious to read.  so  I pray that  my eyes will still be  interested!!!

I, also,  had gotten  several days behind in my Bible reading, ... the  assignment is a chapter a day from 4  different books from both Old and New Testament.  not so much,  but a lot if  I am really trying to  really take it to heart! I was able to make  up  6 days in 2 days this week,  and now I only am 3 days behind!  I hope to make  up  those this afternoon!!
I do not like being behind!!!
👃👃👃👃👃👃👃
Lynn just came down to commend  me on the deliciousness that is wafting up the stairs.  And indeed,  the house  is rich in savory goodness!!   Because of my efforts in  therapy,  I am feeling much  more myself and  have been cooking  again. Today, I am braising a beef stew  which  is  really    making us  both feel exceptionally joyful!!    Thank you, Lord for  your faithfulness in every area in our lives!!!

Well, it has been a rather quiet week for us, as I just haven't felt like being out and about,  but being house bound has been a lovely thing!  I am always  so pleased when Hubs is pleased with me!!!

Renew Your Covenant APRIL 24, 2023

Because of all this we make a firm covenant.

 Nehemiah 9:38

There are many occasions in our experience when we may very rightly, and with benefit, renew our covenant with God. After recovery from sickness when, like Hezekiah, we have had a new lease of years added to our life, we may do so appropriately. After any deliverance from trouble, when our joys spring forth anew, let us again visit the foot of the cross and renew our consecration. Especially let us do this after any sin that has grieved the Holy Spirit or brought dishonor upon the cause of God; let us then look to that blood that can make us whiter than snow and again offer ourselves to the Lord.

We should not only let our troubles confirm our dedication to God, but our prosperity should do the same. If we ever meet with occasions that deserve to be called “crowning mercies,” then surely, if He has crowned us, we ought also to crown our God; let us bring out again all the jewels of the divine regalia that have been stored in the jewel-closet of our heart, and let our God sit upon the throne of our love, arrayed in royal apparel. If we could learn to profit by our prosperity, we would not need to face so much adversity. If we would gather from a kiss all the good it might confer upon us, we would not have to bear the imprint of punishment so often.

Have we recently received some blessing that we hadn’t expected? Has the Lord opened our way? Can we sing of mercies multiplied? Then this is the day to put our hand upon the horns of the altar and say, “Bind me here, my God; bind me here with cords, even forever.” Just as we need the fulfillment of new promises from God, let us offer renewed prayers that our old vows may not be dishonored. This morning let us make with Him a firm covenant because of the sacrifice of Jesus that we have been considering with gratitude for the last mont

Tuesday 4 Music, Music, Music

Sunday, April 16, 2023

Hosted by Annie!

Music, Music, Music

How are you doing?  It's great to have you back here at Toni Taddeo's Tuesday4.

Music is something most people truly enjoy but some find it annoying at times.   Some listen at home, some in cars, and music is played in restaurants, shops, you name it, music provides a background for many activities.

1.What kind of music appeals to you?  What kind  can you do without?    My husband and I really enjoy   the music of our times.... the 60's. 70;'s and 80's.  Anything after that  is foreign to us!   MY  5 hour playlist for the car  is  just  so much fun. and   we  are amazed  just how much our memory  is  enabled to sing along  through the whole song!!!   I have NO use for Country music!

2.Do you consider music an  important part of life?  Absolutely! Why or why not?

It is  an integral part of a person's history!

3 What's on the radio as you drive or what is on at home and do you find music in restaurants and shops soothing or off putting? We always enjoy music played  in  public places, no matter what the genre.. even  country and bluegrass.. But  I even love  elevator music  and  really   love  classical music. When it comes to jazz, I prefer  soft jazz!!

4. Would you tell us some of your favorite songs and singers please?Dennis Yost and the Classics 4,   like  Sunny,   Stormy,  Elvis, Kentucky Rain and Ricky Nelson    I've Got a Feelin', Box Tops,   The Letter,  Moody Blues-  Everything,Chicago-Everything,  Sting, When We Dance,  Motown,  Everything, I can go on...Jackson Browne, Doobie Brothers, Johnny Rivers,  Lovin' spoonful, Neil Diamond, Eagles,  Carpenters,  Seals, and Croft,    Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and Young  and more!

Thanks so much for joining in!  Please, if you have ideas for topics let me know in comments here or on Cottage by the Seablog.

I am so excited about our  little trip to Lancaster   this weekend.   We will be meeting our  family  there  to  enjoy  all the sights and sounds!  Just being with  them makes life worthwhile!  It is what therapy is all about. being strong enough to endure and enjoy!

Saturday 9. Danny’s Song

 Welcome to Saturday: 9.

Hosted by Samantha!
Saturday 9: Danny's Song (1972)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune?    Hear it here.

1) In this song, Anne Murray sings that she thinks she's going to have a son. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby?

I do not think so!

2) Back in the 1970s, when this song was popular, parents had to wait until their baby was born to know the gender. Today moms and dads can learn within the first few months whether they're expecting a son or daughter. Do you prefer it this way? Or would you rather not know in advance if you are welcoming a boy or girl into your family?

As someone who never gave birth, but adopted, I can only say as a grandma it was lovely knowing in advance!

3) Anne is so popular in her native Canada that her face graced commemorative postage stamps. What's the last piece of mail you affixed a stamp to and mailed?   I sent a small a package to my granddaughters!

4) She began taking voice lessons at 15. She was so serious about it she took a 50-minute bus ride each way to her classes. What extracurricular activities captured your attention when you were in high school?     I was not at all athletic, and I was  pretty shy,  as well.  I was drawn to after school clubs.  I was in FHA, FTA, and Spanish Club.

5) She studied physical education at the University of New Brunswick and upon graduation taught PE for a year. Did you enjoy gym class?

Not at all. In 9 th grade I broke my collar bone doing a forward roll! Does that tell you anything?

6) Every spring and summer, Anne's fans travel to Nova Scotia and The Anne Murray Centre.  There they can see exhibits and memorabilia from her long career, including her Grammy Awards and gold records. If we were to display memorabilia reflecting the highlights of your life, what items should we include?

I suppose the collection of piano pieces I played in recitals.  My main one was the 36 page music score by George Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue.  Also, the Reading by Cooking Book my dear co-worker, Pam, and I wrote that we used in teacher  State conventions and Reading seminars up and down the East Coast.    I agree with Annie, when  Say the many precious letters I  received from my students … they were my critics!  Last of all, our main achievement would be our daughter, Amanda, who sang  with the Roanoke College Junior Choir even at elementary school and sang not only at the White House at Christmas, but also  in NY C at Carnegie Hall. She took violin and piano lessons. She was the Youth Symphony Concert Master for our city for 2 years and played for the New River Valley Symphony all through college.  There is more but I’ll leave it at that.   Raising her and keeping up with her was our life joy and challenge!

7) In 1972, the year this record was popular, Popeye's  opened their first chicken restaurant. Today there are more than 3700 locations in 30 countries. Is chicken on the menu at your house this week?

I have already made our stir fry chicken and rice dinner the week..

8) Also in 1972, latch hook rug kits were all the rage. With  pre-cut yarn, a latch hook, and a printed

pattern, "hookers" could make wall hangings, pillow covers, and throw rugs. Are you into arts and crafts?

My parents did crafting with wood and enjoyed being in local local art guild most of their last 25 years.  So I have crafting in my blood.  I experimented with all kinds of them, sewing,   knitting, crochet, hook latch, embroidery, cross stitch, but my problem was sticking with anything.  So I basically gave up.  But now as I have stated several times I am into multimedia art.   I started with oil painting, love it, now I am into sketching combined with colored pencils and water colors. I want to really incorporate that all in nature journalling.

9) Random question: If you were offered the position of mayor of your town, would you take
It?  I certainly do not have the strength and youth to take it on, but if I did, yes!  We have a rather bad situation now. City Council does nothing and our city has sunk very low in status within our state, mainly because of drugs and crime. We definitely need change and vision

Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to FFF!  Hosted by Susanne!

Well, it has been a month since my last post on this meme!  But it has been a busy time.  Mainly, this time last week we had just gotten home from our beach vacation where we had a glorious time.
Thus, begins my first blessing. We were so blessed to get to go to Cherry Grove  Beach just north of  North Myrtle Beach.
This was such a great trip because we were vacationing with dear friends who own a property in the  Inlet Villas right next door to where we were   renting!
I was looking forward to fun with our friends, but, also , just vegging out by the water, enjoying the sights and sounds of beach life, and setting aside time for art!I have been working in my first sketchbook and actually almost have finished it. While I was there I focused on nature, and after shopping at Hobby Lobby I bought some items with which I could do some mixed media! One of my favorite little pictures was this water color.

This was so much fun.   I think
I will paint a set of cards to send friends,  these cutie birds are so joyful!

Aside from the sketching and journalling, I really enjoyed our times with Gerri and David.  we have known them for about 15 years. We met in church and still attend church together, we enjoyed dining out at new places, My favorite was Local on the Beach. One of the area’s newest locales
Most of it is out of doors with shaded areas .  We had a lovely time !

We,also, dined at some favorite places like Mac Allister’s  Deli,   the Boundary House in Calabash, , and the Shack!  Mmmm, mmmm. Their fried chicken! But isn’t eating out with friends one of man’s greatest pleasures.

We were very fortunate to be the only family inhabiting our 6 apartment villa.  So we could make noise without bothering anyone and we could enjoy peace and quiet the whole time of our stay.  This was especially nice while I sat out on our deck painting.  I enjoyed playing some serene music while I painted! It really brings me closer to the Lord to play quiet music while I am doing a quiet activity.  Also, Lynn and I enjoyed sitting out on the front porch of our place and watch the activity around us while we enjoyed our coffee. We discovered a beautiful dove who was nesting out on a palm tree right next to our porch.  She was so valiant and faithful to her clutch of eggs!

Ever so often the male would stop by to relieve her for a time. After her exercise and foraging she would stop by on a limb and study us for a spell!
I think she knew we had been encouraging her in her duty and we seemed to develop a sweet friendship with her.  I  hated to leave her!

Our view of the inlet was so spectacular.  So much activity to enjoy watching. One of our neighbors in a n actual home was an older Asian woman who had her grandchildren for a visit.  It was fascinating to watch her come out by the marsh and using nets and other small contraptions catch minnows and other types of bait.As fishing was much more prolific on the other side of the inlet it was  fun to watch her pile her wee ones into  her boat and set off for the other side!
This day she had her older grands.

By midday they could have nearly walked across as the inlet changes so much with the tides.  But they actually stay the whole day when they make the trek to set up their fishing rods for a good day’s catch!

Our friends are still down there but we packed up on Thursday  prior to Good Friday to return for services that night.  Every day at the beach had been spectacularly clear and warm.  But that day we returned terrible storms passed through ahead of us as we travelled north.  The grey and fierce looking clouds piled up ever nearer to us ,and as we passed  into our home state we knew we were in for something !  We tried to drive slowly through the pelting rain and swirling winds. Ever so often you could see the horrible cloud above us drop down fingers that I knew could develop into  tornadoes, but the pressures just weren’t in their favor, praise the Lord.  But nevertheless, as the tempest closed in around us with hail spurting and thunder cracking.  We finally found a place to pull in and weather the storm with several other travelers..all of us in our cars hoping against any peppering hail.  And praises again, we had no hail damage to our car.We arrived home well before dark , unpacked and  enjoyed the comfort of being home , yet, I was a bit sad that it will probably be another couple  of years before the ocean calls our name.

Tuesday 4

Your Town

Hello!  This is Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we ask just 4 questions each week in an effort to get you blogging, thinking and learning about others.
Maybe we can discuss the town  you live in.  It might be nice to find out more about where you live and why you live there. Sometimes we just fall into a place and other times we \choose.

Michelle Byrne painting
1. What are the good points to living in your town?
We  are  a city  but  small enough    to be  friendly and  easy to get around. Could you interest us in moving there?  Our city is very beautiful, situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains...

we actually have a beautiful star   that leads  many visitors to our lovely  vicinity!
We have a gorgeous Hotel named after our  city.....   that draws many  to town!

2.  Are the things you need convenient to your home? (shopping, library, schools, entertainment?)Everything we need is within a 2 mile radius..Amanda's elementary school is right across the street.   The  wonderful  university  where  Amanda and her husband attended  is  within an hour away. Virginia Tech! Our church is a bit further away, but  we can be there in 15 minutes!

3.  Did you choose your town or did you just end up there?  Both Lynn and I were  born here.  We love it  here so much  we  easily made the decision to move back here  when we returned from  Germany in the 70's!

4.   Is your town known for any special foods, activities, places or people? We have the usual  activities.. We have  3  colleges  within our own metropolitan area, our own civic center,  our own symphony orchestra,  as well as , many  set foot races and mountain bike races.  Seasonally, there are parades and  carnivals  with large amusement park style attractions.   We have  natural beauty  all around us and the Blue Ridge Parkway at our doorstep.    Hiking trails,  historical  sites, and  gorgeous vistas  are common to our area. Covid did a job on our restaurant  situation. So many places have closed since covid.   It really is  rather maddening.  It seems all of our very favorite places  closed.    But  new places are  replacing them now and  it is jsut a matter of  getting  connected once again!
We have  lovely older  inner city   neighborhoods

as well as,  neighborhoods springing  up   all about the  country  surrounding the city!

The sun  is bright and  and it is beautiful  day!

♥♥ Right now I am ♥♥

working on this post and  hoping to get it done fairly quickly!  It has been a busy   last few days!

♥♥ Thinking and pondering ♥♥

We drove to a town in the SW of the state to see a dermatologist associated with our’s here, so we could  get a quicker appt. Lynn had  a sun spot on his leg, and has been concerned about it for a few months. We finally had it burned off today. The dr.  was assured it was basal cell.  We were all relieved.

♥♥How am I feeling ♥♥

I am pretty excited … I have recently found that I am deficient in B1 which is causing me to have a set of related issues that should be alleviated upon building up my B1  in my body. I found some at the store today and have started taking it.  I look forward to getting rid of some pesky issues I’ve lived with for some time!

♥♥ On the breakfast plate

I had my usual fruited yogurt topped now with chopped walnuts which are very healthful!  And I love them!

♥♥ On the dinner plate ♥♥

I finished off the egg salad I made over the weekend. We had a lovely salad with chicken salad today for lunch!

♥♥ What I'm wearing ♥♥

I am wearing my black and white tunic over black leggins.

♥♥On my TV this week ♥♥

Nothing in particular, so I watch items that capture my interest on YouTube.  I did enjoy the Masters yesterday. I am glad a PGA golfer won.

♥♥ Looking around the house ♥♥

I would say that since we were gone last week to North Myrtle Beach, things need a bit of refreshing.   But we did have a wonderful time.  Our dear friends are still there.  We came home for Easter services, but our friends are property owners there, and have responsibilities to care for as the new season is upon us.
