Tuesday 4

Beddy Bye

Hosted by Annie!

Hello! Nice to see you back for another Tuesday 4 which was begun by Toni Taddeo and kept up in her memory.    It might be nice to talk about our homes and how we like our rooms to be ordered and used.  What about the bedroom.. a place of comfort and peace.

1. How do you make up your bedroom and bed... colors? blankets? Quilts? Bedspread? Comforter? Throws? Pillow? what goes into making your bed comfy for you?    Even though I have some gorgeous quilts my mother and grandmother made, I prefer cotton blankets.  Not too heavy, but nice and cosy! I love a pillow that is  thick,  but soft, so you can scrunch it up  and is supple.

2. What is in your dresser?  I have three small drawers at the top,  which  are  more or less a catch all .. I need to  reorganize and  get rid of most of the stuff in them.  The  bottom is  three draws on each side.  Mostly  those drawers  contain seasonal clothing  Is it organized or messy?  I try to keep  all the clothes in those drawers  nicely folded.. I have other  dressers  in other rooms  for  other clothing!  I really have too much!!!

3. What's in and on your night stand?MY night stand  doesn't look too great.  I take   several prescribed meds  some  in the morning and some at night so I  have  boxes for each ( AM, and PM)   plus other  medical things.  For the week I organize the meds in two daily  pill organizers      for each part of the day. Then there are eye drop containers for my glaucoma and a box of tissues....a place for my glasses,   and  my watch.  Not a pretty site on a good day!

4. Do you read in bed or watch TV before going to sleep?  I watch  tv before bed.The light in our bedroom isn't bright enough to read by!

Happy Homemaker Monday

Hosted by  Sandra!

Well, as I  study the weather this week I see that    we will be home bound  most of the week..  and  that is a good thing.. because I need to  really work upstairs. As I have been   working on clothing, the bedrooms are  quite   a mess and  we have company  coming in June  so  I really need to  get motivated to   work on  order and decor!!

 ♥ Weather ♥♥
Monday -rain, 69/58

Tuesday - rain, 68/58

Wednesday -rain, 73/59

Thursday -partly cloudy, 80/61

Friday -  cloudy,82/62

Saturday-partly sunny 80/61

♥♥ As I look outside my window ♥♥

It is after 8am and  pretty dark, in fact, Lynn didn't believe me  when I  told him  time to get up.  He is still in bed.  I, as usual,  got up at 5;30.   But  we are now having  pretty harsh rolling thunder!!  Sort of gives me the creeps.

♥♥ Right now I am ♥♥

Working on this post,  listening to the radio, and wondering if we will be able to go to the Memorial   Day  gathering up on the mountain  this afternoon. Sometimes, after  rains like last night's,  the road gets a bit washed out!

♥♥ Thinking and pondering ♥♥

I am missing my family. They stay so busy;  they found no time to call or do face time last week.  I know they are going to have a  very hectic summer,, on the go all the time..  so  any time for visit (phone or FaceTime)  with them will be  limited.  I  have been  in a  funk about it  for  some time. Oh,  they will be here for a whirlwind visit  for 4 days  in June. I  will  hope to  be able to make the most of  that time!  Praise God!

♥♥How am I feeling ♥♥

Feeling my age I guess you might say..  gee, I am sounding depressing.   I am blaming the rain!   But  there again,  tomorrow , ( I waited until the last  of the month!) I have to call to  set up  a return colonoscopy  visit.  The doctor told me to call in May to set up another  attempt to remove a pesky polyp he couldn't get out  in  December.  I don't dread the  procedure  but  the prep! Before I got this dreaded news about another redo..  I was so glad to have December's  procedure behind me  and wouldn't have to have another one  for  5-10 years.  Bah!  But I do need prayers, as well, If he can't get it out this time  he told me I would have to have a re-section of the bowel to remove the section with the polyp.  Actually, it is   entangled in a bit of scar tissue  from a  surgery  over a decade ago!  Dear Father,  guide the doctor to remove this polyp in Jesus name! Amen!

♥♥ On the breakfast plate ♥♥

Coffee and fruited yogurt! Lynn started putting chopped walnuts on top of my yogurt instead of  granola. It is much better for me and tastes  delish!

This  morning   breakfast makes up 10 of my 34 points I am allotted daily on WW.  So I usually eat it  around 9:30   on days I  do not have to  go anywhere.

♥♥ On the dinner plate ♥♥

Well, if we make it to our friend's home  I will be eating   beef hotdog,  salad, deviled egg and  fruit. I am taking a watermelon, salad with  bing cherries and all the other  luscious goodies!

♥♥ What I'm wearing ♥♥

Right now  I'm still in my robe and jammies!

♥♥ On my reading pile ♥♥

Chapters from  Deuteronomy, Psalms, Isaiah  3 John

Also,  Screwtape Letters  by CS Lewis

This never changes  because  usually there is nothing on the  regular channels that interests me!

A Devotion for Memorial Day

Guidepost           by

Not long ago I stopped in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, and visited a cemetery said to be the birthplace of Memorial Day.

memorial_day_marquee_copy

And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations… Exodus 12:14

We often make the trip to our lake cottage in Indiana over the Memorial Day weekend to “open up the place.” It’s a family tradition that dates back to around 1910. And if things follow their normal course, I’ll take Mother, who still lives in my birthplace, Montpelier, Ohio, out to Riverside Cemetery where we’ll place flowers on the graves of our loved ones. Homegrown flowers–peonies and irises–were the bouquets of choice when I was growing up, because they usually came into bloom about this time of year.

Tuesday 4

What Things.....

Hosted by Annie!

 It's time for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Questions about your life........

1. What makes you tired?

At my age and  bit of infirmity  standing  in one place really tires me out.  I'd rather be walking.

2.What things do you value in life?

God's Word,   the church,   family,  my husband, and our home.  Then on another level, I  value our Constitution as it was originally written by godly men  who  cared about the nation!

3. How do you want others to see you? I want to be seen as a loving, principled,  and  fun person.

4.  What things do you enjoy most and find most relaxing to do?  I  enjoy reading,  but  more than that lately, I love   doing art.

♥♥ As I look outside my window ♥♥

It is a bit more sunny this morning and spring flowers are smiling back at me.  We have most everything planted now.  Lynn is fixing our coffee and yogurt this morning, then after that we are going to the hospital to visit my cousin’s granddaughter and the family.  Sweet little Aubrey was in a horrific accident last last week.  praise God she is doing well.  But she still needs many  prayers.. Six year old Aubrey was playing with a racket strap while riding as a passenger in the back seat of a pickup truck. One end of the strap went out the window and became wrapped around the drive shaft. As the strap turned around the drive shaft, Aubrey was almost pulled out of the window and the tightening strap severed her feet, mostly off, but because there was a bit of leg still attached on Thursday night she underwent 6 hour surgery to reattach. So far so good. We are praying for a full healing. But it is at least 6 month process. Thank goodness for Ronald McDonald House.

Please pray.

♥♥ Right now I am ♥♥

I am working on this post while also watching a few YouTube videos. I am looking forward to Lynn bringing me my yogurt.  My coffee is something I am trying to get used to. I started Weight watchers last Friday.  I really am loving it. My mind is set, I really need to stick with this.  So now I  do use creamer, but that tsp of sugar is no more.

♥♥ Thinking and pondering ♥♥

Yesterday Lynn and I went to a wonderful recital. It was held at the huge downtown baptist church and the older large chapel was half full of guests.  One of our pastor’s wife is one of my best friends at church, and we were there to see her daughters who play the violin and piano respectively.

You can see the girls with flowers that we gave them, along with their friends from school. I was so reminded of all the recitals we enjoyed when Amanda was growing up.  We had violin and piano recitals to enjoy!

♥♥How am I feeling ♥♥

I am feeling quite happy.  Just after 3 full days of WW I have lost 6 pounds following exactly the plan.  And we were able to eat after church yesterday at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  I had a chicken quesadilla and a guacamole salad...it was delicious!

♥♥ On the breakfast plate ♥♥

Coffee and fruited yogurt!

♥♥ On the dinner plate ♥♥

Tonight I am grilling some chicken breast and will have some zero- counting veggies and fruits. A very ample supper!

♥♥ What I'm wearing ♥♥

My new Sunday  denim pants and a very cute   floral  tunic . Same as last week!  Well, we’re off soon to the hospital!

♥♥ On my reading pile ♥♥

Chapters from  Numbers  Psalm  Isaiah  2Peter

♥♥ Looking around the house ♥♥

I spend much of my quiet time in the den… reading, painting, studying the birds that come to the feeder outside my window, enjoying my coffee with a snack, our watching tv.  Truly, my cosy corner does need a pick up.  Things kept at arms length need to be sorted and re -stored in their proper places.  This is  probably an on-going thing.    But  outside,  we have got to find a new home for the bird feeder.  A place where the squirrels cannot jump  to it. A tree or    even the house screen,  and they  are  eating all the food.   I  am getting so I detest  the wildlife  around here.  They are  taking over  my favorite  things outside!!!

♥♥A Favorite Vlog ♥♥

If you love Scotland, you might enjoy this one!!!Last week they traveled back across Scotland from Skye to  Kirkcaldy.. their old home town.  I remembered so much of   the road trip  from our trip last summer.   I really enjoyed it!!!

  • Do my exercises
  • therapy class  final  evaluation
  •   pick up any areas of the house that need  it

Our  sweet grands

Devotional

We must let God take over the day for us if we want everything we do to yield a positive result. He is the Almighty, and He knows the best, so we should let Him decide for us today; let God care about us.Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.” (Luke 12:22)

Even though we are in a world full of disappointment and frustration, Jesus reminded us never to worry about anything. God is ready to take care daily of everything we need. He will help us to survive in the most challenging situations. It is the smallest of the things God can do for us. But, he will indeed supply every one of our needs. Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Sunday Stealing

Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves

Stolen from The Book of Questions

Hosted by Bev!

(I hope I haven't published this before; it feels like I might have)

1. When you tell a story, do you often exaggerate? I probably do…. I am a bit of a demonstrative individual. As a history teacher of thirty years, I was most acclaimed as a great storyteller.  Our history materials per child were very limited. So I engaged in bringing our glorious Virginia history alive to my third and fourth graders through stories!

2. If a friend were almost always late, would you resent it or simply allow for it? Well, I fear said person is most usually my daughter, so I must  allow for it.. there is no other choice, but sometimes it saddens me.

3. Can you be counted on to be on time?Absolutely!  I think it is one of the highest forms of graciousness.

4. When did you last yell at someone? Why? Sad to say it was probably my husband who bore the brunt of my cracking voice, I believe it was yesterday! But  I was  calling him to the phone, after all.

5. If you could have free, unlimited service for five years from an extremely good cook, chauffeur, housekeeper, masseuse, or personal secretary, which would you choose?  I would have to choose housekeeper.  I believe most women do, especially at this stage of life!

6. Would you be willing to go to a slaughterhouse and kill a cow? Do you eat meat? Well, I am not vegan, and I do believe there are folks who get paid to butcher a cow,  and well, any meat I eat. As a young girl on my grandparent’s farm I did pluck a chicken  and was  present at a butchering .  None of it is pleasant, but God gave us command of animals for our own use. I,also, wear leather shoes.

7. Do you feel ill at ease going alone to either diner or a movie?  I have dined alone in a restaurant and fast food.  We do not have diners here. I wouldn’t want to go to the movies alone.
What about going on a vacation by yourself? I have attended conferences alone staying in the hotel alone. It was fine, but not my preference.

8. Would you like to be famous? In what way? I prefer my simple life out of the limelight.

9. Would you rather play a game with someone more or less talented than you?  Oh, I have played games with more talented folks than  myself. I like to win, but have learned to play the game for the fun of playing.

10. Is there something you've dreamed of doing for a long time? Well, we finally toured New England in the fall. I got to go to Ireland and Scotland. For those things I can  die happy, But I would still love to  tour the countryside of England.
Why haven't you done it? The opportunity has never arisen like it did in all of the above. If God wants me to go, He will provide the opportunity.

11. If you were at a friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner and found a dead cockroach in your salad, what would you do?  probably get up, take my plate to the kitchen and scrape it into the trash, killing it,as well. I wouldn’t make a fuss about it but if asked I’d answer but not openly.  I suppose that sounds like I don’t care about my fellow diners, but it is a tricky subject.

12. Would you accept $10,000 to shave your head and continue your normal activities sans hat or wig without explaining the reason for your haircut? I doubt it and hope not to for any reason.

13. If you were able to wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, would you do so? Whom would you pick? Not that mine is  that great!  I just started weight watchers! But I do know what I’ve put in mine and what I can expect out of it!

14. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?Absolutely nothing. It wasn’t perfect, but it was grand in so many simple ways ! I was raised very simply, by God fearing parents and my  greater family of aunts and cousins were very close knit.  God has blessed Lynn and I with a comfortable life, a lovely , comfortable home for our old age and we live happy lives!

15. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about? Our national problems.  I never ever thought I’d live to see so much corruption, evil, and lawlessness.  Not the country I taught my students about in our previous century!

Friday's Fave Five

Welcome to FFF!  Hosted by Susanne!

The month of May is flying by.  I can hardly believe    how  fast   time is passing. May is the month I have to call  my gastro doctor to set up a colonoscopy to continue the  business started in the December.Back then 5 months later seemed  an age away.  Now here I am dreading the prep for yet another  procedure to  continue   removing  a very   disobedient polyp that  refused to dislodge from  a scar  tissue from a long ago surgery!   Bah!   I  do not  enjoy that prep and I was so thankful  when the last  one was  finished  thinking I had   another 5 years  before the next one!! Boohoo!!
But  we have to be thankful for  our  medical advancements and  the great  care  we receive  yearly..   even if as the years go by  it is more and more  treatment needed it seems!

Speaking of procedures  I just had  a cat/scan yesterday  that I had been somewhat dreading   for   some time. It was to check on a  nodule discovered on my lung over a year ago.  I  am so glad  that I have  a loving, merciful   Father in heaven in whom I can  place my trust and and faith.  That is what got me through  the  long wait. I got the report today and it was all fine!   Thank you, Lord.

So let's  get on with the  fun stuff! As  you probably know  our only family lives in New England,  a ways from us in the mid Atlantic.  So  we  only  get too spend time in each other's  homes about  2-3 times a year, alternately.Amanda called to  set up  the last week in June   to visit us..  well, for 4  full week days  of that week!I know it will   melt away like an ice cube  in a frying pan.,  but  I  so very much look forward to it! Thank you, Lord for making a way for this to happen!!!

My best friend  and I  did something we should have done a year ago..  We joined weight watchers.  Oh, my how it has changed  since  in 1980's when I  joined for my looks..  Haven't joined since.. but now it is
for my  health! We figured it was best to  have  an encourager
and  some accountability!.  I  started out this afternoon  counting my points and   really  trying   to  set my mind and the tone of  the  commitment I've made for the next 6 months!  I am so thankful to have a great  friend to partner with me!

I have been invited to  two young ladies  violin and piano recitals, respectively!  They go to our church.  Their lovely mom is from Peru and  we have become very good friends ...
I feel  close to these young teens and feel like I need to  do something special  as a gift for them. I keep thinking some sort of flowers. I  think I may  go out tomorrow and see about creating  something like  nosegays  for them if I can find those little  plastic  water  containers in which to   place the flowers.  I was thinking perhaps a couple of rose buds and some daisies in each  small bouquets.  I don't have a clue what else to do..  Any  suggestions!?But at my age, I am thankful to have this problem..  having  these three special friends!!

Tuesday 4 Reading

Reading

 Hosted by Annie!

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4. We enjoy having you here and love reading your responses on your own blogs. I sure hope you enjoy the questions and seeing what others have to say.

Would you like to talk about books?

1.  If you had to flee this life and there was a possibility to actually live in a  place based on a story or book or movie, which would you choose and  why?

I would choose to live in a fairy tale.  First of all, I am a hopeless romantic   so the idea of being rescued by a handsome prince is very appealing.   I, also,  am completely enamored by cottage living.   I  think that is why I love the UK, Scotland, and Ireland so much.  The Coaching House  cottage we stayed in last summer  appealed to my sensibilities like none other.

Of all the places we stayed this was the best...   so very quaint and fanciful!

2.  What kind of story line do you just not like either in books or movies.  Far out  sci fi  and horror!

3   How many of the Great Classics have you read and/or popular book series?  Well, I read most of them in high school and college, and I've read  many, indeed.  I loved  Jane Austen and the Bronte's best!

4.  There are reading playlists available for various genres of literature. Do you play any music while reading?  No , I find it a bit  distracting.  I'd rather  initiate my  active imagination!
