Happy Homemaker Monday

Hosted by Sandra!

♥ ♥ Weather ♥♥

Oh, boy, the week is looking wonderful,  especially the rain.  The heat of last week dried everything terribly.  I look forward to rainy days!

Monday -cloudy, 85/63

Tuesday - cloudy, 84/63

Wednesday - cloudy, 83/ 64

Thursday -rain, 77/66

Friday -rain, 83/  66

Saturday- rain, 85/70

♥♥ As I look outside my window ♥♥

I see that our plants are reveling in the dousing of water that Lynn gave them last evening.  The extreme heat had them looking a bit bedraggled. Thankfully they are looking revived today!

♥♥ Right now I am ♥♥

I am a bit slow to revive myself.  I am suffering from quite a sinus headache. The pressure is keeping me from jumping into anything.

♥♥ Thinking and pondering ♥♥

I am enjoying catching up on my vlogs that make me pretty happy.  I have several that I follow, even though about half have either quit  or are taking a hiatus. Right at the moment I am watching the Cottage Fairy which I have watched for a couple of years. I enjoy the artistic quality, and in fact have purchased some of the art from this very talented young lady.

♥♥How am I feeling ♥♥
 I just finished my lunch. I scrambled an egg and had half an English muffin.  Being on Weight Watchers, and really trying to  stay right on track, I find  the light eating sort of upsets my system, so a scrambled egg and a bit of bread does seem to bring things back into rhythm.  I have lost 20pounds so far and am feeling better in so many other ways.

♥♥ On the breakfast plate ♥
I had low fat Greek fruited yogurt with about 1/2 ounce of chopped walnuts on top and coffee.

♥♥ On the dinner plate ♥♥

Grilled chicken on a bib lettuce with  fruit salad and a spatter of red wine dressing.

♥♥ What I'm wearing ♥♥
After my shower, I will be wearing shorts, a summer top and just my morning slippers.

♥♥ On my reading pile ♥♥

Chapters from Judges, Acts, Jeremiah, Mark.

♥♥On my TV this week ♥♥
I am sorry to say goodbye to the Christmas programming on Hallmark!  Probably just me!  Haha,  I must say I’m not happy with the shift in Hallmark for being as inclusive as they are.  Something I wouldn’t want to explain to young impressionable granddaughters.  So that inevitably returns me to YouTube where I have more autonomy to choose what is interesting to me.  Design, vintage  films and tv, faith based programming, and various news outlets.

♥♥ Looking around the house ♥♥

Except for the den which is where I usually spend my mornings , all looks great!  My corner of the den is laden with books, journals, and dishes at the moment.  I need to return my lunch ware to the kitchen!

♥♥Favorite Vlog ♥ ♥

I really am enjoying following Paula Sutton  and her Hill House Vintage vlog. Paula is so gracious, talented, and really inspiring.  I especially enjoy her gardening and housekeeping vlogs.

♥♥ To Do List ♥ ♥

Do my exercises/ stretches/ and recumbent bike

I’m not bragging.. I’ve just always enjoyed drawing and I’m certainly not an artist.  I have to copy  or draw from something else.  But the top photo was a super fun sketchbook Skool drawing we did online last Thursday as we copied along with our instructor.  I highly recommend following Sketchbook Skool online if you love to sketch. The cardinals are the beginning of my cardinal topic in my nature journal. I use the nature viewpoint, as well as, the internet to help me draw a true to form character as I continue in my journal.  This is proving to be a beloved pastime for me at this stage in my life!

Saturday 9

I've Got Your Number

Welcome to Saturday: 9
. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday.
Hosted by Samantha!

Saturday 9: I've Got Your Number (1965)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Chosen in memory of Tony Bennett, who passed away on July 21.

1) In this song, Tony sings that he recognizes his lover's insecurities because she's a lot like him. Are you unsure in social situations? Or do you meet new people easily?The older I get the more confident I am in social settings,, but I surely do remember  when I used to feel like  fifth wheel .  Yesterday I sat between two new women at Weight Watchers and by the time the class was over I had mad two new friends.  I  initiated   the conversation and we  had a grand old time!!  They both waved at me as I had to leave early  before the meet    ended!

2) While singing was his livelihood, painting was Tony Bennett's passion. What hobby do you participate in with the greatest enthusiasm?  My sketching and nature journalling  are  a gift I give myself!!!

3) Tony was a proud son of New Jersey. Many singers hail from The Garden State, including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Frank Sinatra. What heroes, heroines or celebrities hail from your home state?George Washington, Robert E. Lee, ,,  haha  I can't  think of any current   folks! I'm sure there are some .. ok I cheated.  Ella Fitsgerald and Shirley Maclaine, and oh, boy,  Sandra Bullock!

4) Though Tony dreamed of becoming a commercial artist, he had to drop out of school in his teens to help support his family. Looking back on your teen years, what did you want to do for a living? Is that what you ended up doing? As an older teen  I  had taken all the home ec classes  my school offered and I loved interior design.  My college offered it and I so wanted to sign up for it.  but at the lat moment I chicken out and  blessed into elementary Ed.  Mainly because   the later dealt with children,  whom I love,  and other  dealt with adults and that scared me!!

5) During WWII, Tony served in Germany. The first time his voice was broadcast was during an aircheck for Armed Forced Radio. For the occasion he sang "St. James Infirmary." That was Tony's first. Let's contrast it with your last. What's the most recent song you sang?   Last night I looked up online a favorite  Spiritual song.

6) After the War, Bob Hope saw him perform under his real name, Anthony Benedetto. Hope told him that, no matter how great his talent, his name would hold him back because it was too long for a marquee. And so, Tony Bennett was born. Tell us about a marquee in your town. Is it announcing a movie, play, or concert performance?
Oppenheimer

7) In 2006, he recorded his Duets album, partnering with a variety of singers he admired. Tony said he enjoyed working with Paul McCartney at London's Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles created their classic recordings. If you vacationed in London, what would you be sure to visit?  Well, I  would love to go to  Britain, but London doesn't charm me , particularly! IsupposeI   would love to    take a boat   tour of the Thames, and perhaps   just  catch a Hop On Hop Off Bus and tour the city ..  but not hop off until  I got   to  my  car!!My love of England is the countryside and  homes of  famous authors, etc!

8) "I've Got Your Number" was performed by Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore on The Dick Van Dyke Show. According to Dick, they were so believable as a married couple that he received glares from a hotel clerk while checking in with his real-life wife, Margie. What TV or movie couple do you feel had "chemistry?" I loved Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, films,  as well as,  Tracy and Hepburn,  And Audrey  Hepburn and  Cary Grant films!I was challenged to look up the Grant/ Hepburn films and I was wrong.  I was also thinking of the Grant/ Grace Kelley movie,  (To Catch a Thief) but hey,  Cary Grant and anybody movie, right?

9) Special summertime random question: Would you have more fun at a pro baseball game or an art museum exhibit? Definitelyly  an art Museum!

Tuesday 4. Friendship

Friendship

Hosted by Annie!

".,,there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" psalms 18

 It's time once again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

 Let's talk about friendship.

1. Do you have or have you had a special or best friend or do you consider all your friends the same?  This may seem    sort of odd,  but I have very special friends for different things in my life!  First, of all, Gerri is  my dearest friend  with whom her husband, David,...

(This photo below is    our last trip to the beach    with  Gerri, David, and Dottie and Bill a couple of years ago!!  We were out  for seafood here!! )

 ... and the two of us share our adventures together. We go to the same church, and dine out afterwards every Sunday  as we are able!  We share all our best secrets and  really just enjoy  being together!!  We  go to the beach with them on occasion.. and I love that!!

Then there is Dottie,  who is actually a neighbor of Gerri's,  but I've know Dottie  for  over a decade.  She and I   are pretty much on the same page spiritually.. We have travelled to various church events  and  seminars, and conferences. She and I love to get  together for tea, and we talk about  pretty high level  spiritual  topics!  I have grown a lot  knowing Dot!  Then Dottie and I  formed a prayer  team along with Lynne and Judy  several years ago    and  we  have gotten together to pray  and share each others lives  for almost a decade..   We  took a hiatus  during covid and just recently started getting together  again.  They actually took me to lunch on my birthday, which we used to do for each other every year!.  It is so wonderful to be together again!

This photo was taken 2013  for my birthday  and shown   behind me   from l-r is  Lois,  now in    retirement home,  Dottie, Lynne,   Colleen , moved to Utah,  and Judy.We are delighted that Gerri is  adding to our group.  We  feel that corporate prayer is so very important!

2. Many in the past had close relationships and fell in love through letters.  What do you think of online friendships.. are they real ? I met an older gentleman  back in the days of  Farmtown.  I really enjoyed  striking up conversations with  other farmers    Ivan  was from Sweden and  he was  a  dear soul,  but  for  a very sad reason was an atheist.  After many  long  talks  I was able to break through to him   soon before he   passed away from cancer..  I led   him back  to Christ.    I also, had a friend   from Britain   that  I  was able to   discuss  spiritual things which  and helped him a lot  when his father passed.   I think I laid a good  Christian foundation for him  but  we    haven't spoken since covid.   Are their friends who last a lifetime? I met a nice  gentleman  from Illinois who  enjoyed  talking politics with me.   We still  chat back and forth at times..

3.  Are there stories, movies or TV programs that you enjoyed because of the friendship or relationship portrayed in it? too many to  think of actually.. I  loved movies  where  the  duo  start out  at odds and  then   finally  come together.  One of my favs  of this  kind   was  The Good Bye Girl.I bet I went to the theater to see it  10 times! I  love the  long   distance  romance of Sleepless in Seattle,   I suppose   relationships  that  go through some sort of fire    appeal to me..  Now what does that say about me?!?!

4. What does friendship mean to you?Friendship is so multifaceted I was at a loss for where to begin so I cheated! I looked this up! “What is the true meaning of friendship?  Friendship is  a state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people. In all cultures, friendships are important relationships throughout a person's life span.” I have to agree with this and say that friends also are a great gift from the Lord. I believe we were created to be social, and ,mainly, so we would be able to share the truth of Christ with others.  I am so blessed that all of my friends know the Lord.  And that we share with one another in understanding God’s Word in deeper ways.  I suppose I am drawn to Christians, but I know we are called to  make friends from all walks of life that we might lead some to Christ.  I suppose that is why I struck up conversation online. It is much easier to talk about faith when you have a bit  of time in between sentences to frame what you want to say. I wish  I could talk to some beloved family members, but try as I might I usually get shot down and back  away!  Yet these are the folks I really hate to see are remaining lost to understanding faith!

♥♥ As I look outside my window ♥♥

It looks like another lovely, cooler morning. Hubs will be getting out there to mow as soon as the dew has dried up.

♥♥ Right now I am ♥♥

I am working in the den, on this post while, also, watching Fox and Friends …it is 7:50 am, and I hear Hubs has gotten up and is walking around right above me.  I tried to tiptoe out of the bedroom, trying not to awaken him. I suppose he is determined to get an early start!  Oh, my, Fox is still talking about this Mullet Competition.     Yuck!

♥♥ Thinking and pondering ♥♥

Since this is still my birthday month, ( hee hee) I really didn’t get anything much for my birthday, I found a couple items on Amazon that I am going to  order this week!
 I have always wanted down pillow inserts for the living room. Last year Amanda bought me a gorgeous  William Morris tapestry style pillow cover from the Stirling Castle gift shop.  I was so excited to use it once we got home!

I robbed the insert from one of the sunroom pillows that was the same size and have used that ever since.   I want to replace it with a down pillow  filler then you can give it that karate chop look that you see all the decorators on tv do.  Ok, so I sound crazy, but I love that look and  so I am at the doting stage of life. I also saw the same WM pattern on a dining room set, a table runner and placemats set for a ridiculous price of 19.99. So it is also in my wish list!

♥♥How am I feeling ♥♥
Except for a bit of allergy sniffles, I’m feeling fine. Ha, as long as. I’m sitting in my chair, but weakness in my back troubles me when I walk around for about half a day, by lunch time it always feel better and  I can walk around straight and feeling like I should!

♥♥ On the breakfast plate ♥

I have been quite the chicken about trying the nut milks, but being on WW I decided to give Almond milk a try and so I used it in my oatmeal dish with fresh slices of strawberry on top!It  was delicious!

♥♥ On the dinner plate ♥♥

I haven’t decided that far into my day, yet!

♥♥ What I'm wearing ♥♥
I am still in my pj’s and robe.

♥♥ On my reading pile ♥♥

Chapters from Judges, Acts, Jeremiah, Mark. I got The Return  of the Gods  , by Jonathan Cahn from a friend for my birthday, and I hope to start it today while Lynn mows!

♥♥On my TV this week ♥♥
Well, I must   say, last night we finished season 10  of Dr. Martin. A friend loaned the set of videos to us. She had checked it out from the library. It was so good!  So sorry it was probably the last season.  I loved the theme music.  Will definitely miss that! I have been enjoying the Christmas Hallmark movies, there are some I can  watch time and again.  For example I love The Christmas Detour which will play at noon today!

Saturday 9

 Hosted by Samantha!

You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (1943)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Dinah Shore goes on about listening to the breeze. Is it windy, breezy, or still where you are today?  It was quite breezy as we are in between  storms.

2) The August moon is bright in Dinah's musical fantasy. Let's look at your calendar. Is anything special coming up in August (birthdays, anniversaries, vacation getaways ...)?  Nothing for us, but a great vacation upcoming for a loved one!

3) Dinah was one of TV's pioneers. Her first show was a 15-minute variety show that ran two nights/week in 1951. What's the most recent show you watched? I am watching Doc Martin on a dvd .  I’ve been missing this show!

4) She followed that in 1956 with the Dinah Shore Chevy Show. It was an hour long and sponsored by the car company. At the end of every show Dinah encouraged her viewers to "see the USA in your Chevrolet ..." Today Chevrolets are still the most popular cars manufactured by General Motors. Tell us about your car. We drive an Outback, Subaru!  We really like it..a great car for our family trips up north.

5) From 1970 to 1991, Dinah hosted daytime TV talk shows and found tremendous success, winning 6 Emmy Awards and repeatedly appearing in the Gallup Poll of America's most admired women. Do you remember her? I do remember her, her show, and her singing commercial for Chevolet.  I remember her goodbye song at the end of her program when she threw everyone a kiss.

6) Dinah was such an avid golfer that, in 1972, she founded one of the LPGA's major tournaments. Though now officially titled The Chevron Championship, it's still often referred to as "The Dinah Shore" in her memory. Do you golf? If not, would you like to learn? I took golf in college, and enjoyed the game in my younger years.

7) In 1943, when "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" was popular, so were tablecloths. It was common to have cotton tablecloths for everyday use, fun and festive ones for 4th of July and Christmas, and linen for formal occasions. Do you use tablecloths in your home? Yes, I just changed the tablecloth from a blue William Morris design to a cream colored jacquard,  actually made in Ireland.

8) Beatle George Harrison was born in 1943. Which of the Fab Four is your favorite?As a teen I refused to love  Paul, like everyone else did.  I chose inside to favor Ringo.  Even though he was a bit odd looking.  When I  bought my troll doll, I bought the Ringo doll

9) Random question: Would you rather live on a houseboat or in a trailer?I loved the film, Houseboat, so, I’ve have to pick that one!

Tuesday 4. Book Worm

Book Worms

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we try and challenge you to think , discover and make new friends through blogging.

1.  Did any book besides the bible have an impact on your life or beliefs?  Only books that would be considered under the topic of Christianity. Great authors like C.S. Lewis, John Bunyan,  G.K. Chesterton,  John Stott,  J I Packer.  These authors impacted   my understanding of the truths of Christianity.

2.  What books influenced you as a young person.? Aside from this listed above which I mainly studied in my twenties,  I, also,  enjoyed reading simple mysteries as a teenager,   Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew.  I believe as an only child, reading these books opened up a bit of the world for me. I was not very social, I was very shy  and rather timid. So yes, these books helped me quite a bit to see beyond my yard and neighborhood .

3.  Do you continue educating yourself by reading books or listening to podcasts or lectures? I watch YouTube videos of my favorite  Preachers, yesterday I mentioned  the fabulous  pastor,  Gary Hamrick of Cornerstone Chapel, in Leesburg, Va, just outside if Washington, DC.  He preaches the Bible  with reference to what is happening in the world today,  very interesting!  I also really like Pastor Allen Jackson  of Murfreesboro, Tn.  He is excellent as well!

4.  Have you ever sat in a coffee shop/restaurant/cafe  reading a book?  What is your preferred place to read. No, I cannot concentrate  around a lot of people. I didn’t even enjoy studying in the library in college. I need quiet and  no distractions. I used to love to read in bed. But when .I got bifocals I couldn’t get comfortable and see the page to read. I have a wonderful, rather large chair in the living room where I  can put my feet up on the hassock, kick back, and enjoy reading in my dotage!

It is a lovely morning and I look forward to working in my nature journal!!!

♥♥ Right now I am ♥♥
Working on this post and and hoping t hat it will be received with the same love with which it is written!

♥♥ Thinking and pondering ♥♥

Now it is very early Monday morning, it is still dark in our bedroom with the shutters closed, but dim daylight is sneaking in , in-between the slats. Cars are starting up around the neighborhood , leaving for parts unknown, even though it is only 6:30 am. I suppose there were mornings when I hit the road, driving the 25 minutes to work…to school. There were days that it was beneficial to arrive 30 minutes before the first bus. But I must admit, I am glad those days are over! I am so very glad I do not teach in this political climate.. all the evil mandates. Well, I would have had to resign!

♥♥How am I feeling ♥♥

My allergies are kind of going wild this morning!.

♥♥ On the breakfast plate ♥

My delicious fruited yogurt topped with crumbled walnuts with coffee and a glass of water!

♥♥ On the dinner plate ♥♥

Didn't get to the market so I made  WW   Chicken salad with grapes,  cooked seasoned tomatoes with  melted Monterey Jack cheese,   corn on the cob.. pretty good  stuff!!

♥♥ What I'm wearing ♥♥

I am still in my pjs, I may remain in them awhile. Thus seems like perhaps a slow morning!

♥♥ On my reading pile ♥♥

Chapters from Joshua, Acts, Jeremiah, Matthew. Btw, I am following the Gospel Coalition , Read Thru the Bible schedule for the year. I like to do it online, that way, it will read it to me, as I follow along. It really help, especially in the Old Testament with people and place names!

♥♥On my TV this week ♥♥

YouTube treasures I happen to run across! I do enjoy some home and food shows. And I have enjoyed some of the Hallmark Christmas movies. But what I really love has been listening to Gary Hamrick’s preaching on YouTube. He is speaking truth about the evil in our world and his sermons are very refreshing. Look him up! I think you’d you glad you did! A link is provided below!

♥♥ Looking around the house ♥♥

As I look in the dining room, I realize it is time to change up the dining room table.. Yay , that is a favorite thing to do! I think I may go green in there!!!

♥♥A Favorite Vlog ♥♥

Ok, for my friends who are concerned about what is going on in our world I highly recommend this pastor who isn't afraid to preach the truth. Gary Hamrick is the pastor of Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia which is right outside of the Capitol . He has many videos online and I find myself listening to him every day. All of my friends love him, as well!!!

♥♥ To Do List ♥ ♥

Do my exercises/ stretches/ and recumbent bike
Plan menus
Go marketing
daily Bible reading
Prayer group meeting
Bible Study group
laundry

♥ ♥♥ From the camera ♥ ♥

I really miss looking out at the bird feeder and tracking the various birds who visited us.  But hubs is adamant about not putting feed out regularly so maybe I can get him to do so today in between our rain days.

Not too clear through the screen,  but you can see  the birds were prolific and I miss them!!!

A Good Word:What Do we Believe?
This is from Pastor Hamrick's church. I really like it very much!!!

We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons:

 the Father,

the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created

all,

upholds all and governs all;

We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness,

wisdom,

power, and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men;

that He

hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who

come to

Him through Jesus Christ;

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by

the Holy

Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings; His

substitutionary atoning death; bodily resurrection; ascension into heaven;

perpetual intercession for His people; and personal, visible return to earth.

We believe that He is one and the same as God. He was fully human and

fully God;

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who came forth from the Father and Son to

convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment and to regenerate,

sanctify, and empower in ministry all who believe in Christ. We believe

the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an

abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. We believe that Jesus Christ baptizes

the seeking believer with the Holy Spirit and power for service, either

at the time of or subsequent to regeneration, which is a separate

work from the indwelling Spirit for salvation.

We believe that all the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

are the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original

manuscripts, and that they are the infallible rule of faith and practice;

We believe all people are by nature separated from God and responsible

for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are

freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a

person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as his/her personal

Lord and Savior, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately

born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all of his/her sins are forgiven,

and that person becomes a child of God, assured of spending eternity

with the Lord;

We believe in the universal Church, in the living spiritual body, of which

Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members;

We await the pre-tribulation rapture of the Church, and we believe in

the literal Second Coming of Christ with His saints to rule the earth,

which will be personal and visible. This motivates us to holy living,

heartfelt worship, committed service, diligent study of God’s word,

regular fellowship, and participation in baptism and Communion;

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to

the Church: 1) baptism, and 2) the Lord’s Supper. We practice baptism

by immersion and regularly celebrate Communion according to the

Scriptural guidelines found in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34;

We believe in the laying on of hands for the sending out of pastors and

missionaries, and in conjunction with the anointing of oil by the elders

for the healing of the sick;

We believe that marriage is exclusively the union between one man and

one woman in a lifetime commitment to each other (Genesis 2:23-24;

Matthew 19:4-6). Marriage reflects the relationship between Christ and the

Church and provides for procreation, intimate companionship, and we

believe is the only basis for any form of sexual expression. We believe that

any intimate sexual activity outside of marriage is sin (1 Thess. 4:3;

Ephesians 5:3).
We believe that God disapproves of any attempt to alter one’s gender

 (as revealed at birth) through surgery, medicine, appearance, or otherwise
and such an attempt violates God’s creative order. Sex and gender are
inseparably determined by God at the moment of creation and may not
be legitimately changed by human action (Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:18-22;
Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). AMEN

Friday Fave Five

Welcome to FFF!  Hosted by Susanne!

 Good evening..    It is   5 pm, on Friday and Ive been so  busy today,  I should have done this last evening!!
I'll get right to    things!    This week  has been a good week.   I  got very into my new Nature Journal.   I am using  great  quotes  and  my own drawings   of the nature that comes to our yard!  Unfortunately,  I was getting very inspired by the birds coming to the feeders,  but  alas, because  many unwanted critters were  almost taking the feeders over..   Hubs is  rationing my  feeding the birds  as  he really thinks,  anyway, birds have  plenty of food in the summer.   We were spending quite a bit on having to fill the feeders every day!.. and   the squirrels and deer were getting the greater share of the food.  But I do  have a great list of the kinds of birds  who were  previously  attending the feeders,  so  I can  still  keep up with the journal.

I had a great week  on weight watchers this week.  I lost   2.4 pounds this week. .. which brings me to 17.2 pounds in 6 weeks.I think this is pretty good, because  better  slow and steady than to lose it too quickly.  I all too well,  know I gain it all back  so  easily that way!

Today my  prayer  pals  took me  out for a birthday luncheon at our finest restaurant. It was so wonderful to get back together..  Like so many things   when covid hit   all the great things of life seemed to slam to a close.. as  did this group..  And then  it seemed we had all  gotten older and had issues,,  but praise God we are doing well  and getting together has  ignited  a flame of  prayer revival in us.   We all had missed each other so badly  but  it seemed  the world and its  problems  were  keeping us  from  getting back together !  Yay,  today we were victorious!!

Speaking of prayer,  I  am dealing with an issue that I will not go into   but it is  strongly on my mind and    really needs resolution.  I really need  direction prayer    for    what the Lord has in store for  us in the coming days..  It seems I am at a crossroads    about  an issue and  I really am seeking God's direction  for  which  way to turn.  This would  be  a family    decision    so  it is between hubs and myself..  regarding   a church issue.  The enemy  is seeking to rob, steel, and destroy     and he must not win..   I  just really  desire to the Lord's will in  this issue!!!

I am so thankful for the  lovely rain , even the storms  we have been getting.  It has  been so dry and hot here. ..  the  gentle rain all night last night  was  heaven sent.  Everything looked so  beautiful this morning!  Thank you,  Lord!

I am so blessed  to  be  a  member of the Intercessors of America Prayer   team from our city.. Plus, a new  prayer initiative has come to Roanoke called  Pray Now America..  I think 15 cities in Virginia  are   meeting once a month in  the towns best restaurant to    eat lunch,  get to know   the others  who  show up..  anyone can  come   if your hear about it from a friend  who knows you are serious about praying,    and there is still  plenty of room for  twice as many more.   The food is  served buffet style usually an Italian  dish, salad and dessert..    and  then   prayer warriors  leave a donation at the end..  I  am so  over the moon that these cities are participating  across  our state and I do hope this  starts in every state!   After we eat,  we  pray for  about 45 minutes  corporately and  it is powerful!!!
   This  is a huge blessing  for me and   all who  get connected!!!!

Tuesday 4. Old Times

Tuesday 4 hosted by Annie

Hello! Welcome back to our weekly question fest begun by Toni Taddeo and kept in her memory.
Let's talk about old times.....

1. My town had an old-fashioned strawberry festival, a summertime picnic and carnival and the local church went caroling at Christmas time. What did/does your town do?  Our city holds a Dickens of a Christmas every year with carriage rides, costumes,  specialty foods and dramatic events.  It is very well done, but we have never participated. What about your family? I grew up going to the country with my parents to enjoy old time events, reunions, Decoration Days,  old- time picnic with home made ice cream and roasted corn on the cob! I love my memories at both grandma’s! I particularly enjoyed Christmas at my Grandmas’. One was rather genteel.  Baking the most exquisite food , home made cream custard, chantilly crème with fruit on homemade chocolate pound cake, everything was grand and gloriously decorated and sublime, while down at grannies, folks sat around the wood stove after a delectable, huge country dinner telling funny tales of the past, then at midnight we’d go out and shoot of fireworks.

2. What things in your life did you love about the past?I addressed  some of this in my first answer. One memory that really popped up that was very dear to me was being down at grannie’s , I mean way down in the country, with my fiancé’ at Christmas, when my Uncle June, my dad, and Lynn and I  walked way down into the woods looking for mistletoe in the trees. Uncle June shot the mistletoe out of the tree. I will never forget that day.  Our  frosty breaths, the red plaid  lined jackets,  holding Lynn’s cold hand in my mittened one!  The resounding echoes of the gunfire, the crackling branches falling through the trees and the romantic branch of mistletoe that we got to bring back home with us!  Another Christmas memory took place  at my other Grandmother’s.  One year at the Community Center which was actually the old elementary school my mother and grandmother attended ,  put on a play one year, called an Old -Fashioned Christmas.  The refreshments were all old time foods,  with Christmas custard instead of egg nog.me oh, my good!  The evening ended with a hayride not only along the country roads of the community, but,also, a 4 mile trek on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where all along the way we sang Christmas Carols. It actually spit a bit if snow for special effect.  It was wonderful!

3. What would you like to bring back that are no longer as popular as they once were? Would you talk to friends about perhaps reviving old traditions? Hayrides are a wonderfully fun thing to do.  Also,I wish  we honored our dear families who have passed by celebrating Decoration Day again.  Every year growing up , the end of May, my parents went to grandma’s we kids walked the country road picking Queen Anne’s lace , sweet peas,  chickory, everything that bloomed.  Grandma picked her garden clean, zinnias, snap dragons, dahlias,  roses,  and grandpa brought the many floral baskets up from the cellar. Thus would begin the compilation of  scads of beautiful baskets of flowers to place on a myriad of graves at the family cemetery.  Some of the dates in the graves were from the 1800’s. I always asked to pick the basket for my great aunt who died  as a child around the turn of the century!

4. Do you belong to an organization of any kind and do they have outings, picnics or pot lucks?what special events did they do? Over the years I was  a member of a teacher’s sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa.   We did many fund raising events to help several area missions, like Ronald McDonald House, for one.  For a couple of  decades at two consecutive churches I was the chairman of the social committee where we planned dinners,  showers,  picnics and other personal type events for the pastors, etc. I was a member of the P, Buckley Moss Society where we worked to raise money for charities and other  philanthropic institutions important to Miss Moss. We regularly did pot lucks to share at our meetings which were held at Ronald Mc Donald House. We’d bring 2 dishes, one for our dinner and one to leave for the guests staying at the House.   Later in my life I was a member of the local Garden Club which I enjoyed  but   I found that to be a true functioning member, meant spending more money than I really wanted to do. But I enjoyed the outings and associations with all of my endeavors.

By the way, I looked up the usage of 'old- fashioned vs old- fashion and old-fashioned is the correct usage. and must have a hyphen as well

A Good Word:
  • Scripture makes it clear that God is a bird watcher and He loves and cares about all birds. That is an awesome thing for us. God provides for the cardinal birds, the ravens, and the hummingbirds. If God provides for the birds when they cry out to Him, how much more will He provide for His children! Psalm 11:1 “ I take refuge.

    “Our sorrows are all, like ourselves, mortal. There are no immortal sorrows for immortal souls. They come, but blessed be God, they also go. Like birds of the air, they fly over our heads. But they cannot make their abode in our souls. We suffer today, but we shall rejoice tomorrow.” Charles Spurgeon
