Saturday 9 Hosted by Samantha.
On a Clear Day (You Can See Forever)Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer questions, however, and here are today's questions!
Saturday 9: On a Clear Day (1970)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
I always loved this song. I was 20 when it came out and I remember going downtown to the music store and purchasing the piano arrangement for this music. I loved playing it on the piano for many years.
1) Is today a clear day where you are? It started out cloudy but turned into a lovely clear day!
2) Streisand sings that today she's "astounded." What has recently shocked or greatly surprised you?Anymore very little can truly shock or surprise me. I think in my older age I have become despondent to shocks or surprises. I am afraid in many ways the corruption of this world has caused me to not be surprised by anything that happens. Sad commentary, I know, but it is true.
3) Streisand's voice astounded people from an early age. She began performing in New York clubs when she was only 18, too young to order a drink in the establishments where she sang. Do you remember the first adult beverage you ordered at a restaurant or bar?
Actually, I was 19 and I was a bridesmaid to my neighbor with whom I had grown up with since we were in diapers. She had an open bar at her reception. My boyfriend who later married me was my escort for the evening, and acting cool like real adults we put our heads together to think of something to order. I don’t remember being carded or anything, and I am pretty sure I ordered a strawberry daiquiri.
4) Barbra has discussed the importance of her Jewish faith in her life and has enlisted the guidance of Reform, Conservative and and Orthodox rabbis as she explored her religion's complexities. Do you enjoy discussing religion? I do very much. Because I am a prayer warrior in various venues around our city, I have grown more and more comfortable not only praying corporately, but discussing faith based topics among adult groups.
5) Taylor Swift just passed Barbra Streisand as the woman with the most #1 albums (12). What's the last album you purchased?
Too long ago to remember.
6) The lyrics to "On a Clear Day" were written by Alan Jay Lerner. He attended Choate, a private boarding school in CT, at the same time as John F. Kennedy. While JFK was in the White House, Lerner had two major Broadway hits -- Camelot and My Fair Lady -- running concurrently. Obviously those two Choate alumni did very well. Have you been to any of your class reunions? Have you been surprised, pleasantly or less so, by how any of your classmates turned out? Lynn and I graduated from the same school the same year. We attended our 10 th anniversary, the 25 th and 50th.. For me the more years that passed the more fun I had. I believe as a shyer young adult I found reunions more trying but they were much more delightful, as confidences grew. Both for me and Lynn. I was disappointed to learn a guy who I really liked in elementary school and Sunday school, was actually gay. I was terribly upset when I found out a boy I had had a crush on all through school from elementary on, had actually died in the early 80’s from an aneurism. I was actually rather crushed to hear..
7) The music was written by Burton Lane. In the 1930s, Lane worked for MGM Studios in Hollywood. After he heard Judy Garland perform at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles, he brought her to the attention of his studio bosses and the rest, as they say, is history. Lane and Garland later worked together when Judy was an established star. He wrote the song, "How About You?" for her to sing in Babes on Broadway and received an Oscar nomination. Judy's best known movie has to be The Wizard of Oz. How many times have you seen it?
I’d say I’d have to use the fingers on both hands to demonstrate how many times.. I always looked forward to seeing it. My daughter didn’t like it at all. It seems there was something about my generation . I think we grew up tougher ..
8) In 1970, Glenn Frey formed the Eagles. What's your favorite Eagles song? Peaceful, Easy Feelin’
9) Random question: Which would upset you more, being trapped in an elevator or stranded atop a mountain in a ski lift? In a ski lift on a mountain for sure! No doubt about it. I’ve been trapped in an elevator before. No worries
