Saturday 9

Sh-boom

Welcome to Saturday: 9.
Hosted by Sam!
Saturday 9: Sh-Boom (1954)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) 70 years ago this month, the Crew Cuts were singing that life could be a dream. When you awaken, can you recall your dreams?  I   do dream  most every  night,  and I do try to remember them,  but it comes in bits and pieces!!!..  Then  they dissipate into the atmosphere!

2) The lead singer refers to his girl as "darling," "sweetheart" and "baby." Have you used an affectionate endearment lately? If yes, who were you speaking to?  Hubby doesn't like  that too much,  so  I  speak    endearments to my precious toy golden doodle!!  Yes,  he's  a toy alright!

3) Two members of this Canadian quartet are brothers, born 15 months apart. Do you have siblings? If yes, how close in age are you?  NO, no siblings..  I do have a  premature  brother in heaven  that I so look forward to  meeting!!!

4) A hit in Toronto, the Crew Cuts traveled by car to appear on TV in New York. How are your wheels? Would you give your vehicle a tune up before embarking on a 1,000 mile (500 miles each way) road trip?  I love our  beautiful and  so comfy Subaru! It is  3 years old  and  probably  have it checked out just to be sure  it was running tip top!!

5) In 54 and 55, they had five Top 10 hits. Then the Crew Cuts fell off the charts. Founding member Rudi Maugeri suspects it's because they were a "teen act" and teenage music tastes can change fast. Who did you listen to when you were in high school?

I was in high school from 1965-68.  too many to name   I loved    it all. I would lie in bed at night and listen to Casey Kasem  from WLS, Chicago!  (Thanks to The Gal.. I   can correct  the spelling on my favorite DJ!  I think the  misspell was a combination of me and the computer.  I  do need to  recheck  better!!!)

6) A well-maintained crew cut should be trimmed every 2-4 weeks. Is there an appointment with a hairstylist on your calendar?  No, I just  had a haircut last week..  And  I  really love my new stylist!.  I am trying to get over a bad permanent,    the quality of my hair changed so much.. I look like granny!!   Well, I am  a granny,  but I don't really want to  look like the grannies of the 1950's!  But   Pam is a treasure and she is a Christian.. We have  wonderful conversations!

Let's look at the summer of 1954.

7) 70 years ago, Chicago Bears great Walter Payton was born. Today more than 1200 students are enrolled in Chicago's Walter Payton College Preparatory High School. Was your high school named after anyone?  Yes,  Colonel William Fleming..Colonel William Fleming (February 18, 1727 – August 5, 1795) was an American physician, soldier, politician, and planter who served as a local justice of the peace in the mountains of southwestern Virginia and Kentucky, as well as in the Senate of Virginia and briefly acted as the Governor of Virginia during the American Revolutionary War.

I didn't know  any of this until this moment!  HUH!

8) J.R.R. Tolkien's Fellowship of the Rings was published. It's the first of three volumes in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Have you read the books and/or seen the movies?I have seen the movies and everytime I see them on tv I have to watch.. I love those stories!!!!

9) Sports Illustrated was first published. As a special promotion, the premier issue included baseball cards. With the introduction of online communities and trading apps, collecting baseball cards continues to grow in popularity. Are there any card collectors in your life? No.

Friday's Fave five

     Hosted by Susanne!
Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  This  is a meme   where we are sharing the blessings of the week.
This week  has flown by. ... as usual, it seems!!!   On Sunday we were so blessed. yet sad  to enjoy  our  last session with  our Connect group Leader who,  with his dear wife and our great friend, Cindy,  were leaving our church to  have  great impact in his  rural community where he  is a faithful   Christian  who shares the gospel every weekend.. He travels all over his  county  sharing the love of Christ with the lost  and  he and his wife are  going to start going to a local church where  he can minister   there as he brings new congregants in  each week..  We took them out for lunch following church last Sunday and we had such a great time.. I know this little setback will not  bring an end to our  friendship..  Thankfully,  they only live about 30 minutes away and it is right on my way to Hobby Lobby;  Cindy  can't wait for us to  do a  fall  shopping  visit, soon!  Monday- Thursday  were  free days for me  which was  great because  hubs  came down with a wicked  virus and   I was left to do   the chores that needed doing!!   He  has  helped a bit  carrying things to the basement , etc,, which helped tremendously.  Today he actually went to the  grocer.. I had planned to go  but  I did have an appt with the podiatrist and he whittled quite a bit on my feet and I just couldn't   stand the thought go going to the store..  So  I stayed home and   finished up  the  indoor chores including the laundry and started dinner..  We are having   homemade spaghetti and a lovely tossed salad for supper!   Smells so good!!Tonight I need to work on the   prayer team roster of names  addresses and phone no's.    So  I just about have it all done  and  ready to print out for our  prayer time tomorrow evening!  Corporate prayer is so important in these days!
I amso  thankful   for the  cooler days we have enjoyed.  In fact we may  dine out on the porch  in a few minutes..  I love this weather..  It will heat up again  come Sunday   for  all of next week,  then it appears to cool off again  the next week!.  Summer flew by  and Im sure  autumn will, too! But there are several great  church events and classes to  attended..  Plus, I cannot wait to get back into Community Bible Study    starting in September!    All is  great..  if  we can just stay well.!    God bless to all!!

Friday Fave Five

     Hosted by Susanne!
Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  This  is a meme   where we are sharing the blessings of the week.I am so glad to be this far along with my   Moh's  surgery  recoup!  The stitches were  removed yesterday and  even though it is vertical  scar  down my forehead above my left eye,  I do believe the scar will   fade quickly  once the redness and soreness subside.  For now I have to keep  vasoline on it which is  a trick to keep it out of my hair..   but oh, my, it could be so much worse.  so I praise the Lord for His goodness and  care!
So, Sunday we went to Connect Group, instead of  the  main service,  since I was wearing my  facial bandage.  but my  CG  friends  were praying for me  and I knew I needed to show up! The  sad part is our leader   told us they were leaving the church because he  has a call on him to  share the gospel  all around his community.  He lives about 15 miles from church  and  he has a difficult time inviting folks to our church so far form  their home so  they decided to  start attending a  church nearer to their home.. This means our group will  probably disband and  fill in   on other groups.  We are all so very sad to see Dave and Cindy go,  but their reason is  very commendable.. And  actually we all need to pray for the courage and  desire to  share the gospel.  Time is  short and  we should not wish any to be lost in the Lord!
On Monday I spent my time   mainly around the house and   really cannot remember  anything of special  importance..
Tuesday,  I had a lovely morning..  Our summer  Community Bible Study group met  to   celebrate the end of the season  and  just get to know each other better.I really  have enjoyed this group and hope to  get to  see more of them this fall when I join the larger group  for the first time in about three years.  I am getting excited about it!
Wednesday afternoon I got my stitches out and I must say it does look  a lot better than I expected even if it is a vertical scar.  Thank you, Lord!
Thursday evening we attended  an amazing  monthly  meeting on  Biblical Prophecies  about the End Times.  The  Biblical evidence  is  very  clear  that we are watching the build up  of  events that lead   right up to the rapture.  This means that once  those who  have heard the gospel yet never made a confession of faith  will suddenly  be exempt from  choosing to follow Christ. Oh, my goodness.  that means  that the Christians (The church)  will be caught up suddenly in a twinkling of an eye   to heaven and  soon there after  on earth the most  horrible time of all time will  begin called the  Tribulation..
You know   in the 50's and 60's  when I was coming of age  I would think of this  coming time  as  some kind of far away event that would  happen way in the future. I had been told about the tribulation   and  I was  rather horrified by it  but  thought well, that won't be for me or even in my lifetime. Funny, how fast time goes by.  and have you noticed that it seems time is really speeding by these days!  I was raised in the church  but  to be honest Im not sure I became a Christian until I was about 23  when I really made my confession of faith. MY life   ebbed and flowed   in and out of church..  But mostly in.... I  served in several capacities and   grew in knowledge. I am so blessed to have  been taught by amazing Bible Study teachers. But  my  most precious  treasure is knowing that when the last trump sounds  possibly in this coming  season of  fall feasts in October, or  next,,, I will be  rising right up to meet my Jesus in the air.  Awesome!
I  do  feel it imperative to share a bit   of the study we heard last night..
 Luke 21:28-33
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.

33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

This passage speaks of  many  terrible things coming to pass in Jerusalem and the world   all at the same time..    These things are mentioned in Luke 24  in the earlier verses!

  • Wars and rumors of wars
  • famine and  intense heat
  • pandemics
  • natural disasters  such as earthquakes     we are now seeing seismic  numbers  at the 7.-8. range
  • hatred and murdering of the Jews
  • division and lawlessness
Vs 8 in Luke 24  states  all these are the beginning of sorrows.  and in verse 34  "This generation shall not pass, til all these things are fulfilled....  that if we are living to see these things  in combination,  and do not pass   away  from natural causes,  we are the generation to see the  end!  And there are many   scriptures that  point to  things happening during the fall feasts , Feast of Trumpets,  Yom Kippur,   Feast of Tabernacles.

I can   categorically say  that Christians  are  looking up for  our redemption draweth nigh!

If you  haven't made a confession of faith I  strongly urge you to spend time looking into these matters.  Attend    church and speak with  the pastors..  Once  the rapture   takes place,   all opportunity    will be   gone.. for  if you have known about the Way, the Truth, and the Life and rejected it,    your chance   will have passed  you by once the rapture has taken place!  Then" Katy, bar the door," the tribulation  is no picnic! There is information on the right sidebar of my  page if anyone is interested   why   and how to  become a Christian!  Many friends   here  on the blog  are praying  you will  make the most important decision of your life!!!  God bless!

A Little Tea Party

A Little Tea Party

Hosted by Annie!!
Welcome back to another of Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
For my southern friends.. I pray the weather lightens up on you all.  I know it's been a very rough summer heat wise.  Let's pray together for a solution.

This week could we talk about your personal thoughts?

1. Do you find yourself day dreaming about your situation and things you would love to do if only...?I have been known to do that..    I think at my age  and  after  everything,..  I just don't do a lot of day dreaming.  I spend  my time mainly doing crossword puzzles and other games to aid my memory

2. If you are having tea/coffee, a little break in the day does your mind wander off to other thoughts and meditations.  OH, I do enjoy my coffee and tea and  yes,  I  can  become a bit more  contemplative  at that time..

3. Do you find yourself meditating or revisiting in your mind a scripture, verse from a book you've read and its impact on you? I usually am reading a book or  the Bible or  and  series of verses, or devotional  that instills  peace and   tranquility in my day..And I actually   just started  reading novellas   again..  I went through  period when reading was a chore.. I just couldn't concentrate  or  even  read the page easily.  Praise God  I really enjoy reading again.

4.  Do you find yourself sometimes replaying conversations with others?   Are there books or movies that stay vivid in your mind?Shucks!  I was hoping for more  attention to  tea parties!  I love to hold them with my friends!

These photos were from last spring!

This same group of ladies have requested a fall tea    upcoming..  so I am  loving just getting into the  mood  for  creating a special time for  special friends!  I am getting excited about doing a bit of fall decorating!

Tuesday 4

Friendly Chat

Hosted by Annie!

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.  With just four questions each week we hope to change the world!

Well, okay, we can't change the world  but we do hope to help you have something to blog about, think about and talk about.        I hope everyone in Florida is okay  with the storm Debby! Be safe friends.

So, let's take our tea or coffee and sit down together and  have a friendly chat about life........

"So Dora.. how's life lately?"

1.  If you were or are married, did or do you enjoy being married?  If you are not married are you content and happy in that life?I have been married to my sweetheart fore 52 years.  We are very content.  He comforted me by staying with me at my Moh’s surgery appt this mornin.  No one else had a significant other with them!

2. What are the best parts of your life today?  What were the best things about your life in the past? The best part of today was as I said having Lynn with me  and only having to cut to the clear margins once. Thank you, Lord, In my part life I so enjoyed my parents growing up, the many trips we took to be with extended families on both sides! We were so blessed to adopt Amanda  and her family   ( husband and children) complete our family beautifully. )

3.  What more could you add to your life to make it better, or conversely, what could you remove to make it better for you? As much as I love our beautiful home of 48 years, at my age now, I would love to be living on one floor.. a patio home would be lovely, but I cannot convince hubby!

4. If you work... are you really pleased in your job or would you like something better?  If you are retired is it all you hoped it would be and how could it be better for you?  I taught school for thirty years and really enjoyed it. That said I was thrilled to retire at age 53. I loved having our home to myself for 9 years before hubby retired.  But now I love being home together.  We enjoy taking day trips ever so often.

Fave Friday Five

     Hosted by Susanne!
Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  This  is a meme   where we are sharing the blessings of the week. I don’t know about you, but this week flew by!

Haha, I started the week with a big boo-boo! At Sunday School, I made the error  in announcing that I’d like prayer for my Monday appointment at dermatology as I have a Moh’s surgery on my face, but my memory failed me, I actually have it this coming Monday. I dread going to church tomorrow without the facial bandage that this would have entailed. Thereafter, I will be confessing my poor memory  and have to request the prayers all over again.  But praise God, I do have a wonderful class who I know love me and will just shake their heads with a smile or a tease, and .I know their prayers will see me through on Monday!

Tuesday I had planned to go to Bible Study but I had a set back with my cold and cough from the week before! The cough just doesn’t want to go away.  I think it must be allergy related!

Wednesday, as it was the end of July, and our pastor had sent out the birthday dates for those celebrating in August, I worked on the computer using Jacquie Lawson cards online to create birthday cards for about 10 great friends at church having August birthdays. I love to send these cards. Everyone so enjoys getting them.

Thursday was a quiet day.  I watched a bit of the Olympics and tried to catch up on the Congressional investigations on the Trump assassination attempt.  The prayer list for our nation grows ever longer and longer these days.

Friday was Intercessors for America  prayer night. We meet every Friday night to pray for the nation and these days do spiritual warfare over our nation.
I hope every one had a great week, and are enjoying a fine weekend with family and friends, God bless everyone!
