Friday's Fave Five #826

Hosted by Susanne!
Welcome to Friday and Friday's Fave Five.
I cannot believe how fast time is flying by.. But I must say.  after the back to back snow storms we  had last week this week  is swiftly  fading away  with the wind and the sun! Thank you, Lord.I have a  bereavement meal to  supervise and prepare for  last weekend  and I am  so  glad it is now behind me..  There  was quite a bit of stress  involved that  met me n a tailspin.  I believe at my age and health  I need to step down as leader and just  be a volunteer ...  My cheer has picked up this week with  moderating temperatures that seem almost like springtime!  I am so ready for spring, I have been  decorating spring all over the home!

So this has been a rather quiet week.  It has been great for  catching up as I really had gotten stressed out and not feeling well. One thin  that has me down is a sinus infection that I  took  last week into this week and it didn't  totally take care of it but it put my digestive track into a tizzy! I''ve been pushing probiotics and hoping things will  level off soon!!!Prayers for things to settle  down  soon!!!
received  the sweetest  lengthy letter form our eleven year old granddaughter  this week.  What a joy that was! And sine then I  have  found out that  both she and our younger  grand  are taking  archery lessons!  At 11 and 9  they  certainly do get to  do some many things I never dreamed of at their age!
  Here you can see both girls .... our lefty in blue and our oldest  in a  white and blue  cap!
Tomorrow will be  America Pray Now  luncheon and prayer time for our city. I do hope to go and  spend  time over a lovely lunch with  some very dear friends. Again, I do  pray this sinus business will clear up soon!!!
I am truly blessed  by my dear hubby who is  preparing our dinner  tonight.!!  He is  a  dear  sweetheart!  Thank you, Lord!!

Friday Fave Five

Hosted by  Susanne

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone and welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  What a lovely Valentine's Day  here in the Mid Atlantic..  We  got a reprieve from the rain and snow  today!!  Thank you, Lord!!!

~Our Valentine's Day ~  Hubs and I decided to  dine out  today for breakfast. So we chose our favorite place,  The Toastery. It was pretty crowded by the time we arrived.. around 10am...  so we just  fell in line and waited  to be seated,  but it was lovely to see all the couples, young and old, enjoying their special breakfast out!!

~~Serving the Lord~ Lynn and I are committee chairs for  our Bereavement meals.. these are meals following  family  funerals where the family members return to church  for a lovely dinner provided by their friends at church! We have a meal in planning for midweek next week.  This  is a  very special family... the septuagenarian wife lost her husband and beloved sister on the same day, leaving her terribly bereft!   Today after breakfast hubs and I went shopping to collect   items to make the dining experience a bit more special. I like to create  lovely table settings, but on a budget..   So  you'd be surprised to see  what nice items one can find  at the Dollar Tree.  This meal will be serving 80 people which means 13  tables  jsut for seating. So this weekend Hubs and I will be working on  arrangements.. Thankfully there are  common  pieces  that  will be used  for meal after meal  but the  small  seasonal decor  does change. It was  really  fun for me to find something springy to lift the spirits of  those attending. I love this committee, and it is so wonderful to have folks from church call me regularly to sign up to bring  food items or volunteer to help at the events. What a blessing!

~God's Special gift to us~  Wednesday  winter  showed its  wicked head here in the Mid Atlantic  with  ice storms and   tons of freezing rain. Thankfully, we had  no damage and  the ice  was gone  by mid morning today so we were able to get out and about. But I do have dear friends who live at higher elevations who were hit very hard with the ice! Many dear friends  had  trees and large limbs down all around   and on top of their homes on  Wednesday night!.  Hubs  did drive up our dearest  buddies to help him with his  damage control.  Thank you, Lord for sparing us  and our home!

~A Convenient Supper~  Today while we were out we decided to stop at Zaby's to  try out their chicken strips.  We usually order chicken strips for  various locales as the meat for these   meals..  We usually get it at Krogers,  but someone suggested  this newer  place .So we drove by and purchased a chicken strip meal to  sample  and so Hubs and I each tried one  strip when he brought it back to the car..  It was  pretty good, but for the money Kroger's is still best.  But,  anyway,  the boxed lunch was loaded with 2 more strips, a  salad, and lots of fries, so whallah!  Instant supper!

~A New Way to Celebrate~  Well,  I am afraid  we have turned a corner in our married life.. This is the first time we did not share valentine's nor are we  dining out for  our   usual  dress up  dinner out! I suppose this happens to most couples who reach a certain age.. It's not that our love is fading, but our energy is.. I will say I still got my gorgeous red roses delivery and I hope that never falls by the wayside..  But we both decided our special breakfast  was most suitable for this older couple!

What have been the blessings in your life this last week?

Tuesday 4, Food!

Foody Questions

Hosted by Annie!
Welcome to Toni's Tuesday 4..
Can we talk about food ?

1. what was your favorite suppertime meal when you were a kid or a teen?  How about fav breakfast and lunch while you're at it.
My momma grew up on  a farm and she was a fabulous cook. I always looked forward to fried chicken,   mashed taters,  her  canned green beans, and biscuits.  For breakfast  her  sausage gravy and biscuits were   wonderful.. and for lunch we often had homemade  vegetable soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. Yum!

2. How about now? What is your favorite dinnertime meal?  For dinner we crab cakes,  home fries and slaw.And for breakfast,  for breakfast  I love to scramble eggs with parmesan cheese, served with toasted  English muffins with butter and orange marmalade, and lunchtime?  Lunch is usually, something like  celery with pimiento cheese, soup,  and  half a sandwich.
3. How has your taste in food changed over the years.Well,  it seems food  has lost a lot  of goodness.,.   when momma was cooking the food was fresh,,  from the garden or the farm. It tasted  awesomely good. Today,  our food has been so  adulterated  and  we have no means of  farm food, so we  try  to  eat  healthy and  I do  like to  bake    items from scratch to help make up the difference!
4.  What's for supper at your house tonight?   Homemade spaghetti and a tossed salad.

Happy Homemaker Monday

 Happy Homemaker Monday

Hosted by Sandra!

 The weather in my neck of the woods:::
Monday - Increasing sunshine , 40
Tuesday -snow, 33
Wednesday - freezing rain, 33
Thursday - showers, 36
Friday - cloudy, 37
Saturday -freezing rain, 40
Sunday -  rainy and breezy, 39
I must add  to me this coming week demonstrates that the
groundhog got it right.

As I look outside my window:::  The birds are gathered
around the feeders. They know that colder weather is on
the  way!

Right now I am::: preparing to use my  new Navage
machine that  should help with my  sinus infection.

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip)::: I Just
watched  a very fun video  about  planning  and  pre-
paring a valentine's  surprise for your  mate!!...
Copy the link  and   open it on a fresh  page  to watch it.
a couple of very  loving  ideas  to surprise your
 significant other!!!  I found it very entertaining!
https://youtu.be/rx9-sxIHDDI?si=SYrvSSdcJim4aZGD

Thinking and pondering:::I found this fun idea for
celebrating Valentine's Day with your sweetie..

Ideal for: Those who love music and reminiscing about

the good old days
Music has the power to transport us in time and evoke cherished memories.

Compile a playlist of songs from their youth—maybe it’s swing music from the 1940s, rock ‘n’ roll from the ‘50s, or

disco hits from the ‘70s. Spend the evening dancing,

singing along, or simply listening to stories from when

 these tunes were popular.

On my tv:::
Hallmark mysteries,  and movies,
All creatures Great and Small
When calls the Heart
YOutube videos on home decor

On my to do list:::
Change Bed linens
Laundry
mop kitchen
Vacuum and dust living room and dining room
Daily Bible reading and daily decree
Bible Study homework  for  CBS

Happening this week:::
Hoping to dine out  at  MOntanos, our usual  habit.
I see this was  just before I started weight watchers!

My simple pleasure:::
I love to watch the birds at the feeders,  recognize
their common names and  draw and color them in
my nature journal

Looking around the house::: I have been  working on
putting the winter away and  decorating for the spring
holidays. I still have  a box  form the basement out in
the living room  with items  scattered about the floor.

From the camera:::
Our grands just arrived at Steamboat resort in Co.
  This photo was taken last winter in New England.
They are becoming quite   the skiers a t their tender
 ages of 9 and 11.  I pray they do well and stay safe!

Bible verse, Devotional:::

Saturday 9 But Beautiful

But Beautiful

Hosted by Sam!

Welcome to Saturday: 9
Saturday 9: But Beautiful (1947)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics encourage us to take a chance on love. What's something you've done recently that took you outside your comfort zone? How did it turn out?
When I signed up to chair the Bereavement  committee  last year at our church..  I wasn't  expecting   what I got. I had  been social chair  at  two  previous churches  as a younger woman and so  when this need arrived  I spoke up.. Well, in my experience  a bereavement meal  was for  the  family members to  be served   following  a funeral.. my experience  was to expect about 30 total  folks..  Well, my very first  meal  surprised me with 80  folks attending.  I  about flipped out of my skin..  Not knowing  that many  in the church.  I had only  2  other  committee members and  was  undone by the amount of food  to  be  gathered  expected.. But I  stepped up to the plate and  just  allowed the Lord to work through me and   things worked out  wonderfully. It really   poured joy in my heart to see  God in action as everything  simply fell right into place.  I learned to just  walkinto the fire and  allow  Him to  work!

2) Bing Crosby introduced "But Beautiful" in the 1947 film, Road to Rio. Name another movie song that became a hit.  I always think of soundtracks and this one  came to mind first!!!
https://youtu.be/QjWghPS2dUw?si=FP5XiZfPKl-aqOGJ
 Hope you will   open and enjoy!

3) Bing's leading lady in Road to Rio was Dorothy Lamour. When she was a teenager, she worked as an elevator operator. With the advent of user-operated/push-button elevators, few elevator operator jobs remain. What's another job that was once commonplace, but has virtually disappeared?
 Car mechanics at your  neighborhood  filling stations.  I say this because  we have to wait    a month to get our car looked at at  the dealership!
4) Road to Rio was one of seven Road movies Bing Crosby and Bob Hope made together. They were once the most financially successful comedy teams in history. What movie or TV show always makes you laugh?
Just about every Mel Brooks film..

5) Crosby's given name was Harry but he acquired the nickname "Bing" because as a kid he was a fan of a comic strip character named "Bingo." As a child, did you read the newspaper?  I loved the  comic strips on the 50's and 60's  so much better than  those of today!

6) His 1942 version of "White Christmas" is still one of the best-selling records of all time. He was a movie star, nominated three times for the Oscar, winning once. Can you name another performer who has been successful both acting and singing?
  I do not remember her singing that much in the  films  but I really  enjoyed Barbara Streisand movies and I do love  her  songs!
See above  video    for a clip of my fav movie  of her's~

7) Bing loved golf and enjoyed traveling the world, playing at different courses. If today you were to receive an airline ticket to any city in the world, what destination would you choose? What would you be certain to see/do there? I believe I would go to Israel..  It seems most all of our friends  have been there and absolutely loved it.. I would love to walk where our Lord walked!!!

8) In 1947, when "But Beautiful" was a hit, Farrah Fawcett was born. She became famous for her bathing suit poster, her blonde hair, and a 70s TV show. Without looking it up, do you know the name of that television series? Nope.. Have no idea!

9) Random question -- Are you someone who makes things happen, or someone things happen to?  I think I make things  happen more than  anyone else of my  generation I know!
