Friday's Fave 5

Hosted by Susanne!

Does time seem to be flying by? I am getting so I cannot keep up... sos I am doing this post earlier than usual Actually,  in my dotage  I  cannot work at the same pace and  remember  everything that you do to post on blogger.. so I  try to  get at it  so my memory does not fade away.  That is what happened earlier in the week  when I failed to update  what I had written before posting and it was all erased..
Bummer!!!
well, it is Wednesday, the 27th of August  and I am  so pleased with the  lovely days the Lord has given us.. I have always dreaded the dog days of summer..  with the  searing heat and  super humidity. these days have certainly been a gift from on high!
Therefore it is time to share our blessings... On Monday I had been missing our  daughter and her family so much.  They live 7 states away so  any time we can spend online is a real treat. but their summer has been hectic with trips,  camps and  establishing our oldest  granddaughter in a new school  that  our Facetime has been extremely limited.
So Monday we  did  get to visit on the computer and it truly seemed our 9 and 11 year old grands had grown  so much.

Of course,  now the they had added  dear Hugo to the family,  life  gets even a bit more complicated.  But joyful, as well!
I am so thankful  that even  as my  poor knee   has been in a state of decline for up to two years now,  the Lord has  given hours of reprieve  following  ice bagging it  so I can  still get some things done around the house. You might ask  why have I waited so long to take care of it,  but  unfortunately  I have had one  medical  problem after another.  even now I am  hoping to get released from my cardiologist   regarding my ablation I had  almost 2 months ago.  I have one more month to go  before I see the surgeon and get released for my next great adventure.. a knee replacement!even at that.. I was told when I see the surgeon don't be surprised taht he will say  we can't do it for another 6 months.. my schedule is full!  Bah!!!!
So I am reprieved  to  do some  cleaning  around  the lower lever so I can still have my prayer group here instead of going to  the other homes that unfortunately have such steps that I cannot negotiate.  Another  great reprieve was a dear friend offered to bake a lovely dessert for us to serve tomorrow!!   I will offer the tea and coffee! Our prayer group has been meeting  twice a month for well over 10 years.  Praise God  for  special friend- (sisters), who truly  love each other and  love to spend time together with the lord!!!
The Lord gave me  the will and ability to do some reading yesterday. I used to love to read,  but over time  my eyes sometimes fail me, but  Lynn got me a portable book light  that  absolutely  makes reading a joy!  I was able to  purchase some fabulous books form Thrift Books online and  have found them to be  such a solace and really fun thing to do..I enjoy cosy mysteries  and  now I am rereading Pride and prejudice as well as   a book form my bookcase, I didn't realize was a historical novel  It is entitled Glencoe
a Scottish Romance..I bought it three summers ago while at the Glencoe  information center and assumed it was a historical volume.  And well,  the time frame is  the time following the horrible massacre of Glencoe,  Well, to my surprise it is  the most  beautifully written novel and is described so majestically, I feel like I am right back there entranced by God's  beauty of creation! I feel certain the Lord  allowed me to wait  for just the right moment to pick it up and enjoy reading again!
Today is Wednesday  and  I must praise the Lord for my dear husband without whom I would be  completely  lost and unable to even survive.  I do so look forward to the days when all my troubles are behind me and we can enjoy our endeavors together.
Tomorrow will  be  our wonderful prayer event..  we meet at 9:30 and so enjoy our time with  the Lord that we go until after 12! we always begin with a song. I love the time  spent coming up with  the perfect song.

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip):::
I am reading the Puffin published   Pride and Prejudice book... and am loving it..   I can't  say about the others in the series,  but    this   edition is just like watching  the  previous  film with

Happy Homemaker Monday

Happy Homemaker Monday

Hosted by Sandra!

The weather in my neck of the woods:::
Monday -87/68  cloudy
Tuesday -82/68 cloudy
Wednesday -84/68 cloudy
Thursday - 80/68 scattered storms
Friday - 79/67 passing storms
Saturday -80/65 scattered thunderstorms
Sunday - 84/63 partly cloudy
I am thrilled with this  weather report.  I am so very
ready for cooler weather,  and hopefully the humidity
will break and  things will be looking up.. the storms
we have had  this summer have really helped the veg-
etation.  our  flowers are looking  very nice compared
 to other years!

Right now:::   Besides working on this  post,  I am
cooking dinner.. tonight we are enjoying  chicken
veggie stir fry and rice.I love to fix this meal..  so
easy!!!We cut up  chicken strips  into bite size pieces
and first of all, stir fry them in  a bit of oil and  our
favorite spices, then take   them up  into a small bowl
while  we  get out the frozen vegetables  for stir
fry  from the grocer,  and  add a bit more oil to the
pan,  place on  medium heat  while everything
simmers and the  flavors meld together! Below is a
tip I will share  about the rice!

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip)::: Yes,
I  figured out since  there was  a bit of water in the
pan from  the veggies  thawing,I added  a bit more
water 1/3 of a cup  then  added 1/2 c  of the dry
minute rice to the pan  put on the lid and let it  all
cook together. It works like a dream and makes
it so easy  and less to wash up after!

Thinking and pondering:: I enjoyed  starting  my
fall decor.. I said last week,  that I had read how to
decorate a blue and white room ... add green and a
bit of   deeper colors.  So I ordered some  green and
white plaid  pillow covers and  some  feather  fillers
and  I love how they look.  especially since there is
quite a lot of green in our rug!

I love my Staffordshire  spaniel I got for my birthday
 in July!

The cabinet top in the hall is a perfect place to create
a country village  for autumn. my dried  hydrangeas
 look like  gigantic oak trees.

On my tv::: I have been enjoying the old  movies that
have been on YouTube this last week. The Quiet Man
is a real  favorite,  but  the newer ones are great, as
well. Today I watched  You've Got Mail!

On my to do list:::
Monday:  My bad knee has really been bothering me
lately  so I spent  most of the day   sitting   with my
leg up and  applying ice.  Good time to watch those
 films!
Tuesday: we need to  shop tomorrow  for items to, not
only fill our Christmas knapsacks for our children's  Guatemala bags, but also,Christmas  boxes for Oper-
ation Christmas  Child.  Tomorrow is set aside  for a
Walmart haul!  Tuesday evenings we  go out with  a
group of church friends  for  dinner  at various  rest-
aurants.. This week it will be Wildwood Barbecue.
What a great way to really get to know  our friends
 even better!

Wednesday: My 6 sisters group from church plans
a gathering each month and this week  we  are  all
going to  a really nice restaurant that just recently
started  serving breakfast. Lynn and I go  often and
it is so good! My favorite is  Belgium waffles loaded
on top with  fresh cut up strawberries. So yummy!!!

Thursday: Catch up day for getting tasks accomp-
lished.  It takes me longer to get things done these
days  and I do  hope to get  some  purging done.
I am working on books and magazines now.. getting
those parred down will make a big difference!

Friday :Nothing planned... yet!

My simple pleasure:::
I love to  read these days, since Lynn bought me a
clip on battery  light to read by.  I am enjoying
several new books I purchased from  Thrift books.
Right now I am reading  84 Charing Cross by
Helene Hanff.  It is a book of letters  backh and forth
from NYC to a London bookshop through the years.

Looking around the house:::  some rooms look great
others  are in disarray,  especially, the sunroom
which is the  purging and packing  room.  Soon we
can load up the car for  the library and  the goodwill!

From the WORD!

Have a great week!!!

Tuesday 4 Reading Opinions

Your Reading Opinions

Hosted by Annie!
Tuesday 4 welcomes you and hopes that you are enjoying the questions we ask each week In spite of moves and television, reading is still a popular way to spend time for many people all over the world.
All kinds of people read all kinds of books.   I thought maybe we could talk about it a bit this week and get your personal opinions on the subject.

Sorry to be a day late... but I have been decorating for autumn and  baking for a tea tomorrow..  but I love this topic so I  have to  share!!!

1. What are some essential classic books that everyone should read at least once in their lifetime?  Being a Christian there are some great classic  books of that genre  that I figure should be on  the list.
Anything by C.S. Lewis,  especially the Chronicles of Narnia,  The Screw Tape Letters, Mere Christianity, and if you have had these I  imagine  you would  make  more  op your mind to choose many more of his titles Elizabeth Elliot's books on her  mission experience are   great classics!
J I Pack, Knowing God is  amazing! some other classics I have  loved  were written by Jane Austen,  To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee,   Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.  For lighter reading,  The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Shaffer... a very  smilier book  which I love  and am reading now is  84, Charing Cross Road  by Helene Hanff.. Only 112 pages.   and very engaging! Both these  books  are written in letter form...  I  loved reading them.  quite  easy  and very touching  stories. There ae so many more, but these are my faves from the classics!

2.  Monday September 22 is the first day of Autumn.
Would you make up a list for us of books that you think would make great Autumn reading? I love cosy mysteries...  There are so many of them,  so I will name a few  authors...Ellery Adams,Merryn Allingham,,  and her British  stories, and one of my favorites is Laura Childs Tea Shop Mysteries series!

3  What genre will we find most in your library? Sci Fi, Romance, adventure, biography, non fiction, mystery?  What do you like most about the genre?  Historical romance, TimeTravel romance...  especially  Lynn Kurland's books.. love them!!!   and cosy mysteries.

4  What book would you like to see made into a movie? Any idea on who should be cast in the rolls? One of my favorite Lynn Kurland's books is

Scotland, 1311. James MacLeod was the most respected—and feared—laird in all of Scotland. He loved his men like brothers and his land with a passion. And he allowed no women to cross the threshold of his keep...

New York City, 1996. With an indifferent fiance and a stalled writing career, Elizabeth Smith found passion and adventure only in the unpublished romance novels that she wrote. Until a Scottish hero began calling to her...

Elizabeth longed for the man of her dreams. But she knew she was overworked when she began hearing his voice—when she was awake. To clear her mind, she took a walk in Gramercy Park. She dozed off on a bench—and woke up in a lush forest in forteenth-century Scotland. A forest surrounding the castle of James MacLeod, an arrogant and handsome lord with a very familiar voice. Elizabeth would turn his ordered world upside down and go where no woman had ever gone before: straight into his heart...

I love these  very romantic books  yet  the smut is missing..  which  is s greatI  I also love that  each book    has  some of the same characters  as history  continues and  we do not lose our favorite   characters in the  continuing timeline!

Happy Homemaker Monday

Happy Homemaker Monday

Hosted by Sandra!

The weather in my neck of the woods:::
Monday -79/ drizzle
Tuesday -84/ storms
Wednesday -85/ storms
Thursday - 87 storms
Friday - 86/ passing storms
Saturday - 86 /partly cloudy
Sunday - 87/ partly cloudy
And  most definitely HUMID!!!!!!!!  As always.. it has been a  glum summer111

As I look outside my window:::   It is rather dark,  but thankfully, I do
see some blooming flowers  due to all the rain we have recieved  Thank
you, lord1

Right now::: I am working on this post and listening to pandora..I
have missed it for quite a while.. so   pleased to  have it back1

Something fun to share (a blog, a video, a tip)::: ON  the  YouTube
decor programs  I enjoy,  I've been particularly  interested in fall
decor. Since my living room  is blue and white  it  looks  great in
every season but, fall,.. Now I have seen where a rustic green adds an
autumnal  blast of color. So I ordered  these pillows from Amazon.

I received the feather inserts  today. I cannot wait to get the covers1

Thinking and pondering:: I have been absent for over a month due to
some health issues which kept me under the weather.I had been having
a-fib for several months, until in June, I had a cardio version which, if
you are ever told you need one,  it is  very easy.. if you don't mind
being put to sleep. I got over my fib and  I regained so much energy
and well being1
But  on July 3rd I went to UVA Hospital for an ablation. to settle the
business of the fib.. and it has worked quite well.  I did this because I
am looking to have a knee replacement in the fall. Hopefully, after that
I will be good as new11
On my tv:::
Hallmark mysteries, I really like Diagnosis Murder and Matlock and esp;
Christmas movies, I was sad to see them end.YouTube videos on home decor
I love the British  realty shows. Phil and Kirstie are favorites!  These
shows never change.  I, also, enjoy some YouTubers like Kirsten and
Jeorg.

 On my to do list:::
Monday:  I have been purging  things around the house.. I have,  over
time, been an astute hoarder of  china. I have about 8 sets...I now
have 5...  still too many1   I purged my desk area, went through old
papers and it looks so much better. Today I, also,  went through
my cards to send and  organized them  for future  use.  I have,
also,  been  trying to purge books.. I have  several bookcases and
so I have been  trying to pull, for now,  the  beautiful picture books
of  home interiors and  nice quality hard cover books to take to the
Discovery Shop.

Tuesday: I need to work upstairs on the bookcase in  our daughter's
old room. There are two bookcases in her room..  I  need to choose
books  too young for my grands  and  send them to the Goodwill.
And purge  many  old folders of my  work I did several years ago
that are loaded on those shelves.   I would love to  take the shelves
downstairs  to use as  our pantry.

Wednesday: I hope to spend some time purging old papers from my
desk drawers, from which I am typing this  post. The drawers are
stuffed and not one bit organized. I also  need to bake  a cake for
my prayer group who meets here on Thursday morning.I forgot
where I laid the. recipe I found online  (AHH)  but just looked it up
online and found  it. …...easy lemon cake.!
Make sure  the  house  looks clean whether it is or not  oh,, bad, mama1
well, if you squint and don't concentrate too much it looks pretty
good1
Thursday:  Host a prayer group here in the morning and probably sit
and watch a film on tv in the afternoon. It has been a hectic week!

Friday : I am not one bit sure about Friday so Im leaving it blank!  Oh,
I remember the senior group at church called the Joy Ministry is having
a luncheon. I think I will take coleslaw and baked beans.

My simple pleasure:::I love to listen to Pandora. I find it most relaxing to
lie in bed  in the early evening , listen to music and watch the reels on Facebook,.especially the babies1

Looking around the house:::I had a grand notion after my precious Leila,
my Oldest granddaughter age 11, had made me the most gorgeous table-
cloth,,  to  order from Amazon. you guessed it  6 nice green plates to
finish off the  green transfer wear plates I  already had that I had
only used for  teas and such.  Well,  now I can  use them for dinner,
too.
from the camera is above11
