Looking back...
1. What music were your parents listening to when you were a kid? Does
that music bring back memories for you? My parents had probably 20
albums of 101 Springs many of which were Latin or Hawaiian Music.
I definitely remember this one.
2. What was your favorite meal and beverage as a teenager? Is it still
or have things changed for you? My mom made the best fried chicken,
mashed potatoes, and home cooked, home canned green beans with a
bit of fat back. She slow cooked the beans all day until the water had
cooked out of them.. so delicious! That with fresh tomatoes form the
garden and warm butter corn bread! YUM!
3. As a teen did you live in a city, country, small town? What was it
like for you there. Tell us about your hometown please? We lived on
the very edge of a small city. where yards were big and everyone had
a great garden. We could burn our trash in wire bins after 4pm and
it was really almost like living in the country. Both my parents were
country born and bred.. so they enjoyed a country style life. and I
benefitted from the country aspects of my life yet we lived on a bus
line and mom and I could easily ride the bus to the city for shopping
or doctor, etc. So it was the best of both worlds. That was great be-
cause we only had one car. Below is a photo of our city in 1960, be-
fore interstates and shopping centers.
4. Would you like to live in your hometown today? Why or why not?
I do live in my hometown. And I much preferred it before shopping
centers. I loved to window shop downtown. So many lovely hat shops,
children stores, and department stores. all of which died away with
the shopping center and now the shopping centers are a dying breed.
We have one large shopping center remaining, but unfortunately, I
haven't been to it for years due to the unsavory element it draws! We
used to be known as a great city, of 200,000 but we are in a bit of
decline. Our liberal government has produced a lot of crime and and
a downgrade of education. So very sad! Our churches, too, are in
decline. Many are made up of a much older population with no
younger folks interested. Younger families flock to the megachurches
we have .. (2). But that concerns me because they attend, but do not
get involved. The most recent church we left is virtually dead now....
we left because when the pastor left for a job in the capital, we could
see the writing on the wall. The church today is too small to pay a
pastor. and without a pastor they continue to lose the few members
they have.
