Tuesday 4

Looking back...

Hosted by Ann!
Hello friends and once again welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.   I am listening to a nostalgic music channel right now with songs of the 40's  and it  made me think that perhaps we could discuss some nostalgia here.

 1. What music were your parents listening to when you were a kid?  Does

that music bring back memories for you? My parents had  probably 20

albums  of 101 Springs many of which  were Latin or Hawaiian Music.

I  definitely remember this one.

2. What was your favorite meal and beverage as a teenager?  Is it still

or have things changed for you? My mom made the best fried chicken,

mashed potatoes, and home cooked, home canned green beans  with a

bit of fat back.  She slow cooked the beans all day until  the water had

cooked out of them..  so delicious! That with fresh tomatoes form the

garden and warm butter corn bread! YUM!

3. As a teen did you live in a city, country, small town?  What was it

like for you there.   Tell us about your hometown please? We lived on

the very edge of a small city.  where yards were big and everyone had

a great garden. We  could burn our trash  in wire  bins  after 4pm and

it was really almost like living in the country.  Both my parents were

country born and bred..  so they enjoyed a country style life.  and I

benefitted from   the country aspects of my life yet  we lived on a bus

line and mom and I could easily ride the bus to the city  for shopping

or doctor, etc. So it was the best of both  worlds.  That was  great be-

cause we only had one car. Below is  a photo of our city in 1960,  be-

fore interstates and shopping centers.

4. Would you like to live in your hometown today? Why or why not?

I do live in my hometown. And I much preferred it before shopping

centers. I loved to window shop downtown.  So many lovely hat shops,

children stores,  and department stores. all of which  died away with

the shopping center and now the shopping centers are a dying breed.

We have one large shopping center remaining, but unfortunately, I

haven't been to it  for years  due to the unsavory element it draws! We

used to be known  as  a great city, of 200,000 but we are in a bit of

decline.  Our liberal government has  produced a lot of crime and and

a downgrade of education.  So very sad! Our churches, too, are in

decline. Many  are  made up of a much older population with no

younger folks interested. Younger families flock to the megachurches

we have .. (2).  But that concerns me because they  attend, but do not

get involved. The most recent church we left  is virtually dead now....

we left because when the pastor left for a job in the capital, we could

see the writing on the wall.  The church today is too small to pay a

pastor. and without a pastor  they  continue to lose  the few members

 they have.

As I Look Outside My Window

I am delighted that a cold front passed through last night and the temps are so pleasant this morning!  Breakfast on the porch with a lingering coffee!

Right Now

Lynn and I are bringing all of the luggage down to prepare to pack the car tomorrow !  We will be driving to Boston to stay a few days with our daughter and family before we fly off to Scotland come the weekend. Getting very exciting around here this week!

Thinking and Pondering

I have packed and unpacked so many times trying to be sure I have everything,  and have packed so efficiently that my carry on and personal item have everything I will  need for the first several days,  just in case our  checked bags do not follow us directly! So many scary tales of travel woes.  Just have to put ourselves in the hands of the Lord and pray for His best for us!

How I Am Feeling This Morning

I am feeling excited. This promises to be a great day, mainly because tonight my small group of women from church, my Six Sisters, are getting together for dinner. This will be our second time to get together,  so we are still trying to get to know each other. TheWomen’s ministry team put groups of 6 ladies together to meet once a month over a 6 month period to get to know and make friends  with each other. We are a good mixture of ages and background.  I really love this idea which is so nice for women like me who are really new in the church!

On The Breakfast Plate

I had  coffee and yogurt,  and left over French toast Lynn made over the weekend  out on the porch!

On My Reading Pile

I am reading the last chapters of Numbers as  we are reading through the Bible.  I also am reading A Scottish travel guide book, and am taking a Lynn Kurland time travel novel about Scotland on the plane to enjoy!

On My TV

I  enjoy vlogs on YouTube,  Fox News, Sky News from Australia,  I really  like The Kitchen,   and Fixer to Fabulous.   The British show, Location, Location,Location  and the British version of Love It or List It has drawn my attention lately.m

A Youtube I really like

This British series is so terrific.  Hosted by Kirstie Allsop, Britain’s homemaker, who purchased a ramshackle beach home to rebuild and decorate using thrifted, and homemade items she learns  how to craft during various lessons from great craftsmen around England. I really enjoyed this series. I think you will too!

On The Menu

Monday:  dinner out,  pizza for Lynn

Tuesday: sub sandwich and salad

Wednesday:  dinner out at Longhorn Steak House

Thursday : Dinner with family

Friday : dinner out with family

Around the House   I won’t be doing anything around the house this week.

From The Camera  …..check back for photos with family in Massachusetts, and in Scotland !

On My To Do Lis

  • Dinner out with the girls
  • Hair cut for the trip
  • An appointment with my podiatrist!
  • Off to Boston….  Then to Scotland

On My Prayer List

Pray for traveling mercies as we drive to Boston across 7 states.
Pray for our flights and all they entail to be safe and work out accordingly.
Pray for a wonderful 2 weeks in Scotland,
  • making connections,
  • Safely driving in unknown territory, on the wrong side of the road, in cars that are set up differently with the driver on the right side of the front seat! Tricky!
  • Everyone to be safe, Us older ones to be safe in our mobility  and the children to be safe in such a different environment.
  • Pray for the children to be safe..for example when the kids with their parents go to see the puffins...  the cliffs have no fences … the puffins perch around the cliffs and tourists are  on their own to be safe.  Pray  for our granddaughters to be wise and careful. One of them is  rather  impulsive.
  • Pray that we just allow God to direct our path to see and enjoy the perfect things of his creation and all will go well with us  and then he will bring us all home safely!Amen!

Fridays's Fave Five

Hosted by Susanne!

Praise the lord, I have been clicking off my calendar all kinds of doctor appointments, as well as,  Lynn, my husband.,    and  for the most part they have gone very well.  At this age.  we cannot complain.,  or shouldn't!!!  Yesterday, I had my final ERCP., at least,  for a good while and  the Lord willing I will have no more. This one  seemed to leave me a bit more sore  inside than  the others.  But  I  think I am well on the road to  healing and   hopefully will be a better night sleep  tonight! An erCP is a procedure using the endoscopic  route to  view inside through the stomach,  to the pancreas  to the gall bladder..My poor gb is small and  wrinkled but still  doing a job .. our plan and prayer now is that it will be with me the rest of my days.  Surgery to remove it is something  I  do not want nor do the doctors so  I lean on the great Physician to  keep me in His worthy hands.  He certainly has been with me every step of the way!!!

I am so thankful for my husband. He is so  good to me.

I would be completely lost without him. What with my  immobility and multiple  physical therapy  sessions, this  gb  situation,  my lack of really being too productive around the house.  I can do  light housekeeping and organize things and decorate  rooms, but heavy things all rest on his  shoulders.  He is outside now  mowing  the grass that is growing, but  thankfully,  with the  dry spell  much of it has gone dormant/  Thank you, Lord!!

What a blessing to hear that Roe VS Wade was  overturned today ..  and Spirit of death on our country has been shown the door and may he  return to the depths where it belongs.   Lord,  have mercy on our nation and bring blessing back  to our government.  our  economy, our  sensibilities!  in Jesus Name!

Well, a week from today  we will  be very close to arriving at our daughter's home right outside of Boston. We are leaving midweek to try to  stay out of  July the fourth weekend traffic. It will still be  slow going in several areas on our trek. This time we are staying in a new hotel midway.  We have high hopes for it.  The Hampton Inn we used to stay in  has gone down quite a bit, especially in their morning breakfast.. That is something we always count on as there is much road  before us to our destination!  Things are getting very exciting, and soon we will be able to count the days to our  flight to Scotland on one hand!  I have packed, unpacked and packed, and unpacked and even now  my check bag and personal item is pretty much unpacked. I do not wish to take too much,  but the weather there can flip from spring to  winter  in an hour  or sun to torrential rain the same. So I hadn't planned to take a checked bag but I do not want to carry coats and sweaters over my arm!😜

I am excited .. One evening of our stay in northern Scotland  the kids, Daughter and son-in-law- will be dining in a Michelin restaurant on the Isle of Skye.  Our accommodations  are back on the mainland in a castle.  But that night  after we have toured Skye  Lynn and I will bring the  grand daughters back with us to  the  castle and stop  in at a wonderful hotel for dinner..

This is the waterfront road  in the coastal town of Plockton, very near our stay,.

The hotel as you can see is about midway down the lane.

The view across the bay  is  delightful!

This whole area is gorgeous. It is about 15 minutes away
 from my favorite spot!

Wednesday Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond

Hosted by Joyce!

1. Something you learned from your father? My father was a gentle man..  He was quiet and  soft spoken,  and  got along with  everyone.. He was a peacemaker. My mom was  bit more brash and loud. I  take a lot  after her,  but I  remember how much  I appreciated my dad,   and I  try to soften my demeanor   to be more like him!

2. Do you like onions? Raw or cooked? How about onion rings? What's something you love to eat that calls for onions?   I love raw vidalias onion and will eat one  like an apple with  pintos and cornbread.  Not so with  any other onion! I love onions cooked. .. onions rings are one of my favorite food!  Yum!  I love onion  pie, I made that for my dad and husband..  they both love onions!  The pie has  lots of  Swiss and  spices and cream in which makes it pretty rich and yummy  for a special meal  with  a special beef or steak dish!

3. It's officially summer (in the Northern hemisphere)...your favorite and least favorite things about the season?   Favorite  isn't so important these days  but it used to mean, when I taught school "yayaya!!  schools out! "Since retirement  I sort of dread summer because of the heat and humidity here in the mid Atlantic.

4. When you think about the summers of your childhood what are two or three things that come to mind?  I loved the jingle of the ice cream truck  that came around once a week.   That was always a huge delight to us on the block! Freedom to roam the neighborhood and play from morning to dusk.  The farm fresh foods  mom would cook in summer. Being a farm girl and a great  country cook..  summer food was  the BEST!!

5.  A hot mess, the heat of the moment, beat the heat, if you can't stand the heat, catch heat, in a dead heat...choose a 'hot 'phrase and tell us how it applies to your life right now.  Today and all week we are trying to beat the heat. I really need to be walking  and exercising outside,  but the heat is too unbearable.  So  here I sit in air conditioning!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Tomorrow I will   go to the hospital at 5:30 am for  my doctor's first procedure of the day. I am having my 5th ERCP  since November... a lengthy endoscopy to check out how my gall bladder is doing.,  remove a stent and hopefully not  insert another one! Hopefully,  it will be the last.

Tuesday Four. Nighty Night

Nighty Night

Hosted by Ann.

1. Do you have a set bedtime that you stick to? I do. In the evenings Lynn and I have very separate interests in tv. So I usually retire to the bedroom and bed to be comfy around 8 pm, and he stays downstairs to watch his sports and car renovation programs. I usually read,  do a bit of gaming or visiting on my tablet, and depending on the programming, perhaps watch a bit of Hallmark. But mostly, I will watch either YouTuber vloggers I follow, do some research on YouTube, or watch some vintage programs on YouTube.  Or I turn everything off and spend some quiet time before spending my time in prayer.  But prayer is my before sleep priority!

2. What kind of sleep attire do you prefer and why is that? I like to sleep  in light clothing in hot weather. Mainly a summer cotton gown or cool top and sleeping shorts. All because I like to sleep under covers.

3. Do you have a night time routine  before bed?   Wash.. brush teeth.. snack? I always bring a glass of ice water to bed to enjoy, but also to take bedtime meds. I brush my teeth and floss,  and brush my hair. I usually take showers during the morning or  day.

4. Quilts? Coverlet? Fluffy comforters? Woolen blankets? What do you need to sleep comfortably?
In summer , like now, we sleep under a  sheet, then a light cotton blanket and a wonderful new cotton coverlet we just got from Tuesday Morning. It is the perfect cover. We do sleep with the a/c turned down to not run very often, and the ceiling fan on low.

Friday Fave Five

Hosted by Susanne!

Time continues to fly by!  Here we are again at  week's end and time to  be thankful for  the many blessings we have!   I haven't been able to share on this post for a few weeks. Life has been so hectic..  We have  a thousands pots on the fire yet it seems we get little done! Obviously, we will not finish the painting job we began at the first of the year.   We got 4  rooms done, but the most difficult room  is the den and Lynn's done a little   every week  but  the rest is a daunting thing because we cannot decide how to regig the window seat to allow more heat into the room from the radiator underneath. So we continue to live in a home  where every room  on the lower level is a bit  topsy turvy.  SO is life!  But  this isn't a complain  post  at all

*** I cannot believe that after 7 months of thinking about our trip to Scotland  it is now bearing down on us..  excitement is  brewing!! In less than two weeks we will be leaving for our daughter's home in New England   for a couple of days before we  fly out  to Glasgow, by way of Reykjavik. I can hardly believe it! Scotland has been a dream of mine ever since I started blogging in 2008. When I was 58 and all things seemed possible. I was retired and always thinking about  dream fulfillment.  Now here I am at 71 and not ion the best  shape,  but  the Lord has blessed us with this  opportunity  to show me that indeed all things are possible even at  time like this! What an amazing God we serve!

***I am so thankful that we have joined our new church. I probably have shared this before, but each week  I am more and more  enthralled. We joined in February, and at first, I wondered   how hard would it be to make friends like the ones we had left behind at our previous church.  Praise God we still get to still see them in other venues we  are part of. But,  in the intervening months I now have 6  Sisters  which is a women's ministry program to bring 6 women of all ages together to do fun things together over a 6 month period.  We have met once  and  one of the delightful  women, Martha, is having us over   in a week   for our next  outing. This is such a sweet way to get to know women , and I love how it is intergenerational. I find being with younger women so rejuvenating!

*** Next, another way we are meeting  folks is though the Joy Ministry which also meets every month. Last time Lynn and I  dined at Montanoes, our favorite restaurant, with about 30 other  seniors.  Tomorrow we will meet at  a fun deli, again, another  wonderful way to  get out and make new friends! This is the same group   that will someday soon plan a trip to Lancaster  to the Sight and Sound Theater. We used to do this with our previous church group, but, covid,   of course,  put  a temporary end to this. Sight and Sound is probably one of the top ten greatest things we have ever  been privileged to do.

*** This has been such a hectic month. It seems between the two of us, we have  had or will have  15  medical appointments of some kind, including physical therapy, eye doctor, urology checkup, dermatology body scans. and allergy shots.  It seems we are running out to  make appointments every day. This doesn't count  my ERCP which is coming up next week. This will be the 5th one I have had since my gall stone was discovered last fall. This is  a lengthy endoscopy  where the doctor works his way to the gall bladder duct to  examine and  remove the stent he administered last time. He said he hopes not to have to put a new one in.  I would be delighted.  and this is something I am praying and asking for prayer for.  That would mean  I wouldn't have another  one of these for several months. But I am not complaining,, by no means. It is through things like this  where we really get to know God's enduring love and mercy in the most personal way. I KNOW so inwardly, spiritually, and physically that He is with me every moment of that day. I feel His presence His love, His peace!. Glory to God!

***I am so thankful for the upcoming  cooler weather,  tomorrow through Monday will be spectacularly cool. I can get outside and work with my flowers a bit, and walk the track. Maybe stop and get an ice cream cone while we are out! This long heat  spell really makes us appreciate  the gifts of cooler days.

Tuesday 4

♬ ♫ Summertime and the Living is Easy. ♩ ♪

Hey.. you're back!  Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where
we just want you to meet new folks and get to know the ones you
already know a bit better. Besides, it gives you something to blog
about too.  Hosted by Annie!

This week let's talk about Summertime.

1. What gave you the most fun in summer as a kid or as an adult?

Being an only child whose parents worked outside of then home

I was left on my own a bit. So I was not exceptionally social, I

had  quiet friends who temperament matched my own. I had

wonderful stay at home mothers on both sides of our home who

made my days feel safe and warm. I played a lot with my across

the street neighbor  who was 6 years my junior and was like

my little sister. When I wasn't visiting and helping out over at

Frances's house, I was most likely  lying on our front porch

glider reading a Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden book!

2. Does summer heat get to you? How do you cope?  AS a

youngster at home of course we had no A/c so every night I would

wet a washcloth and take it to bed with me.  I would lay it on

my face mainly but sometimes  other places my arms and legs.

It wasn't until my last summer at home.  MY senior year of

college mom and dad got a window a/c so I just moved a cot

into their room to sleep every night. Now, I  detest summer

because of the heat and humidity. I plan all my appointments

and outings in the morning and  retire to the house in the

afternoon. I enjoy meeting friends out  in the evenings for

dinner  or  get togethers.

3.  Do you have summertime foods and drinks you really

enjoy eating?   Does your menu change in summer? We eat

much lighter meals in the summer.  Salads, slaws, and

various sandwiches   take first place. I love chicken salad,

  and pimiento cheese.

4. Do you enjoy sitting outside or on the porch in summer

time?  How about some photos of where you enjoy being

in summer.

ON  low humidity evenings we  will dine on the porch.  We

do not have a patio  here and I  dpi not like sitting in chairs

on grass.  But our house sits far back fROm the road and

dining out on the porch is semi private.  But the dining out

photos  were  back in the early  2010's   and I just couldn't

 get back that far.

Take off and spend a hot week at the  seaside  and revel in
the sea breezes

Spend  time on the porch  enjoying the lengthening shadows
 and cooler air

take time to plan a rose garden and then enjoy watching
 it grow

ON a very hot day,  plan and create a gallery wall.

When your  group has planned a lovely ice cream social head
to the shade when the sun bears down

When the humidity threatens to take your breath  get in the
car and take a ride to the countryside!

Plan a ladies tea in the basement of the church!

Sit outside and enjoy the sunset!

Celebrate a lovely morning with your favorite people on the porch!

Decide after all  its  too hot too stay in town so  go on to the family reunion up in the mountains
Or take that ride to the next county that offers the best home
churned ice cream  you can buy!
Enjoy your morning coffee on the porch with your
sweetheart!

Decorate your home  for the patriotic holidays and just get into the holiday spirit!
Sit out on the porch and watch the moon rise over the trees.

                                                   to name a few!

Happy Homemaker Monday

Hosted by Sandra@ Diary of the Stay at Home Mom

Today's Weather

Monday   partly cloudy,  93/79
Tuesday  cloudy,  97/74
Wednesday   rain, 95/72
Thursday  rain,  91/73
Friday  partly cloudy, 92/65
Saturday  sunny, 84/54

As I Look Outside My Windoow  It is a beautiful day.. clear and sunny. Thankfully, it was cooler this morning  when I went for my therapy assessment.  I know I will not be  going out and about too much this week.  The humidity  will be  pretty bad.  Glad all my appointments are early!!!

Right Now

We just had a lovely visit with a friend who just got back from Scotland.  We picked her brain about  what to take,  to wear,   how to pack, and negotiate  the airports.  It was a grand  little chat!

Thinking and Pondering

I have  come to realize that   so much of the time we are trapped in a body   thinking we cannot do  many things that we actually can.  I mean  have been doing therapy for 5 months and  graduated today,  but  I had  walked  in such a stunted manner  for so long   I grew to believe that was the way I walked.   Overcoming my thoughts  was  the key to  making the gains I have made. I was horrified  of  stair cases.  We have a stair case

, but    unfortunately the railing does not  extend the length of the case, so at  the halfway point I have to  stop and relinquish the railing and  lean into the wall to steady myself on the next step  then on the next step I could reach up to the spindles along the hall above and   continue up,   grabbing the next spindle as I  ascend.  Now I can almost scoot right up  the stairs  without  so much as a snicker.  although I do like to  have my hand on something for steadiness.  But to contemplate all the stairs I  would encounter on my  trip  I  was  most apprehensive! So I have been taking stairs  when I come across them.  Even the very utilitarian  stairs  at the  back entrance to the  Orthopedic center that lead down to the parking garage. I  scooted right up and down them  this week  without  hesitation. It  has been my mind  that entrapped me into thinking I cannot do it.  even on the days  when I felt  , oh, man, I dread  going to therapy.  I feel like I cannot make it! It was always my mind that  was  thwarting me and  in truth  when I realized  that I must overcome my thinking that was when I really began to  really improve and grow in strength! I think back on my life and   remember listening to my mind and how it kept from doing many things  that I know now I would have really enjoyed!.

How I Am Feeling This Morning

I was feeling  great this morning. One thing that  my mind was telling me oh,  you can't stand for long periods of time. What are you going to do   when you get to those long lines at the airport.  SO I have been standing around her at home  learning to just shift my weight and do other things   and  I'm doing good standing  in place. It feels great to be an overcomer!

On The Breakfast Plate

I had  coffee and yogurt, then ahard boiled egg and a toasted small crescent.

On My Reading Pile

I am reading in Leviticus, not my favorite book of the Bible,    but am persevering through it...  all the  sin and guilt offerings to be made to the Lord during the time of the Tabernacle.   It  does become  a bit repetitious, but I suppose we do need to understand the importance of repentance and  the fact that blood sacrifices were necessary to wash about our sin..  Sin is a serious business with a holy God!  Praise the Lord for Jesus  and His merciful act on the cross   to  save us from our sins!

On My TV

I  enjoy vlogs on YouTube,  Fox News, Sky News from Australia,  I really  like The Kitchen,   and Fixer to Fabulous.  Nothing on the  main channels  interests me at all, except Hallmark.  I really enjoyed the  Signed, Sealed and Delivered   movies over the weekend.  I loved that series!

A Youtube I really like:

I recently discovered Mike  Downie,  the train guy, and I love him!  He is so engaging I have  seen him travel Scotland,  England  and other countries  but his Canadian ventures really make we want to  buy a ticket!!

On The Menu NO plans yet

Monday:  left over Chinese stir fry

Tuesday: sub sandwich and salad

Wednesday: Hamburger chips and slaw

Thursday : Chicken salad crackers and slaw

Friday : out with friends

 Around the House

On My Prayer List

Our family, friends and church members who are struggling
The mission of the churches to reach the unsaved
Pastors to  preach according to the needs and troubles of our times  to prepare the people
Our government leaders to  serve the people and not their political views
I.e. meet across the table to regulate ridiculous gun laws.  We should outlaw AR 15s.  I mean those shells in those guns blow up the target.  No need for that outside of war.
Our schools to teach the essential subject matter and leave the woke and sex ed to  the family
Actually pray to eliminate woke  and  the violence that is rampant in our communities.ie. Threatening  protests and destruction of property.
The government will curb spending and work to  push back  a recession
The government to help  the farm communities that the food chain will not be  hampered
Pray for Taiwan and any other independent nation being provoked to war.
Pray for the safety of the US  Pray for the freedoms  we have under the Constitution that they will not be tampered with  (Roe vs. Wade overturned in our state at least)
Pray for the sick and the lost
Pray for safety at the border  and   the nation as    thousands  enter the country unlawfully
Pray against lawlessness in our cities and  that local governments will serve their communities rightly and justly

Farewell

After  17 years of   blogging  I am  pretty sad to  just fade  out  with  hardly  anyone showing any   farewell,  concern  about my  surger...
