Autumn School Days
Welcome to Tuesday 4 which we keep up in memory of Toni Taddeo.
School days help to shape our future personality.
Share a story of your school days that you think may have helped
shape who you are today.I absolutely loved my fourth grade teacher and how
she taught Virginia History. She established a love of history in me, so I
decided then and there to become a fourth grade history teacher when I
grew up and I did!
Did you have a favorite teacher and what made them special to you?
My absolute favorite teacher was Miss Karnes in 8th grade. She was
an English teacher who made each lesson come alive! For example,
as we began studying the newspaper, and what was involved in reporting,
she set up a scene, unbeknowst to the class, where a couple of boys broke
out in a fight, (a wrestle ) before class. When Miss Karnes entered instead
of being upset with the boys, she was upset with the class for not actively
taking notes regarding the event and preparing our report for the news
on it!
Did you enjoy the rituals of school.. new clothing, pencils, notebooks,
etc.? I always looked forward to the beginning of school. Of course the back to
school shopping was great, and momma had made me at least a couple of
new dresses for school. I was always so glad to get together with ,my friends again...
I didnt get to see them too much over the summer.
Did you walk to school or ride the bus? Do you have a story to share
on that? I walked to elementary school (8 blocks). For Junior High I was
bussed to a school a few miles away. My bus stop was the last one on the
line for our bus and I never had a seat, which was pretty rough holding
on to all those books, plus, our driver loved to take those curves at a speed..
He thought he was cool... I dreaded those curves every day!!!He was very
popular with the seated kids! For High School, dad drove me! Yay!
I had a bus driver like that when I was working as an adult. He'd take curves to make up time and people would fly out of their seats! I wish I could go back to school. I miss it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI liked how your 4th grade teacher influenced you to be a teacher. My 4th grade teacher had a big influence on me too. I loved history too. A memory just came to me. In 4th grade was your state report and I am in Ca. 5th grade was pick a state and I chose Nevada. 6th grade was a country and I chose Brazil. I bet you were a great teacher too!
ReplyDeleteOur bus driver was an older woman who could and did verbally take down any mischief on her bus. She tolerated no fools.
ReplyDeleteI love hearing about all of these wonderful teachers! Loved your answers. Have a nice week.
