This is a day of thoughtful contemplation as I consider where we are going and where we have been... the words of this song keep running through my head... a song of great joy in times of immense trouble... a song for today.
Lyrics to Be Ye Glad :In these days of confused situations
In these nights of restless remorse,
When the heart and the soul of a nation
Lay wounded and cold as a corpse
From the grave of the innocent Adam
Comes a song bringing joy to the sad.
Oh your cry has been heard and the ransom
Has been paid up in full, be ye glad
Chorus:
Oh, be ye glad, oh, be ye glad.
Every debt that you've ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord.
Be ye glad, be ye glad, be ye glad
So be like lights on the rim of the water
Giving hope in a storm sea of night
Be a refuge admist the slaughter
Of these fugitives in their flight
For you are timeless and part of a puzzle.
You are winsome and young as a lad.
And there is no disease or no struggle
That can pull you from God, be ye glad
Repeat Chorus (x2)
Scriptural Reference:
"But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy." Isaiah 65:18 (KJV)

Occupy and Defend
I love this poem by Christopher because it depicts our spiritual battle we fight each and every day as we occupy the land God has given us and intercede for others... intercede for healing, deliverance, and blessings!
Walk out my front door
Into the battle zone
Not knowing if I will come home
Preparing for the fight that is upon me
My body trembling with fear
But my heart with the help of one stays clear
Fighting for their lives, fighting for their lives
I’m a soldier for my Lord
And I’m fighting for their lives
Armed with his word and love
I go out against the evil
That’s trying to bring me down
Temptation attacking
But my armor is defending
My heart is heavy
For the ones unprotected
I want to profess his love
But the battle zone is a sad place
He is offering the armor of love
But they ignore and choose to fight alone
I am only a messenger
But I love them so
So everyday I walk out that door
I live, I love, likes it’s my last
I live, I love, like my Lord has asked

Pink Saturday
I love my very vintage print that I found in an antique shop in the adjoining county. This print in a larger size hung over my grandmother's bed, and I looked for it everywhere I have gone in the intervening years since she went'Home' to be with the Lord. It now hangs over my guest bed and I simply love its cheery, homey feeling!

Autumn Bliss
As I was visiting about blogland I chanced upon this lovely blog and was inspired to create my own list of 20 things I love about autumn...
1. lazy, languid mornings
2. crystal blue skies
3. fresh, crisp air
4. childhood memories of family picnics on the parkway
5. warm, vibrant colors and textures
6. Reading favorite books curled up in cosy wingbacks, bundled up in fleecy throws sipping Earl Grey
7. Crackling fires and hot mulled cider
8. Long Sunday drives into the mountains
9. Honey and I curled up on the sofa watching a chic flick sharing bowls of buttery popcorn
10. Picking out the perfect pumpkin for that perfect pie!
11. Early evenings and late mornings... wonderful now that Im retired
12. Time for routine events to start up once more, like choir.... symphony concerts.....
13. Again,,, the colors
14. A change in mood, and music, and spirit.... as things just naturally become more pensive and introspective... which feeds the melancholy side of my temperament
15. Baked apples stuffed with brown sugar/cranberries
16. Spending some time browsing old magazines planning holiday festivities
17. Pulling out the sweaters and the jackets... I love fall clothing best
18. Late afternoon light how it bathes areas in it blazing fire yet the shadows in other areas gather in close
19. Dreary, cold rainy days... I love them!
20. No more grass to cut, hence, more time with my sweetie!!
Aw,,, shucks,, I forgot about the leaves!

Pink Saturday
Every new season sends me merrily out to explore my favorite consignment shop, "Buy the Season". It is there that I love to just soak in the exceptionally decorated stalls seeking just that perfect accent piece or treasure. Even though pink is not usually my color of choice for decorating, I am always drawn to these very special stalls...
I mean who could resist this one?
Maybe I do need to rethink some of my decorating color schemes,, I'm really digging this pink and green!
What do you think?

She will be Missed
"Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season."—Job 5:26.

From a sermon by Charles Spurgeon:
Here is a very beautiful comparison, the comparison of the aged Christian to a shock of corn. Go into the harvest field, and you shall see how much the wheat reminds you of the aged believer. How much anxiety has been expended on that field! When the seed first sprung up the farmer dreaded lest the worm should bite the tender shoots, and the blade should be devoured, or lest some sharp frost should consume the infant plant and cause it to wither and die. And, then, month after month, as the seasons came, how did he anxiously look towards heaven and long that the rains might come, or that the genial sunshine might pour out its vivifying floods of light upon the field. When it has come to somewhat of maturity, how greatly has he feared lest the mildew and blast should shrivel up the precious ears. It stands in the fields now, and in some respects he is freed from his anxiety. The months of his travail are over. He has waited patiently for the precious fruits of the soil, but now they are there. And so with the grey-headed man. How many years of anxiety have been expended upon him! In his youth how likely did it seem that he might be smitten down by death, and yet he has passed safely through youth, manhood, and age. What varied accidents have been warded from him! How has the shield of the Providential Keeper been over his head to keep him from the shafts of the pestilence, or from the heavy hand of accident that might have smitten his life! How many anxieties has he had himself! How many troubles has he passed through! Look upon the hoary-headed veteran! Mark the scars that troubles have inflicted upon his forehead! And see, deep written in his breast, the dark mementos of the sharp struggles and trials he has endured! And now his anxieties are somewhat over; he is come very nearly to the haven of rest. A few short years of trial and trouble shall land him on fair Canaan's coast, and we look upon him with the same pleasure that the farmer regards the wheat, because the anxiety is over and the time of rest is now approaching. Mark how weak the stem has become! how every wind shakes it to and fro; it is withered and dried! See how the head hangs down to earth, as if it were about to kiss the dust, and show whence it had its origin! So, mark you the aged man; tottering are his steps, "they that look out of the windows are darkened, the grinders cease because they are few, and the grasshopper has become a burden." Yet even in that weakness there is glory. It is not the weakness of the tender blade, it is the weakness of the full ripe corn, it is a weakness that shows its maturity, it is a weakness that gilds it with glory. Even as the colour of the wheat is golden, so that it looks more beauteous than when the greenness of its verdure is on it, so the grey-headed man has a crown of glory on his head. He is glorious in his weakness, more than the young man in his strength, or the maiden in her beauty. Is not a shock of corn a beautiful picture of the state of man, moreover, because very soon it must be taken home? The reaper is coming. Even now I hear the sickle sharpening. The reaper hath well edged it, and he shall soon cut the corn down. See! he is coming across the field to reap his harvest; and then, by-and-bye, it shall be carried into the barn and safely housed, no more subject to blight, or mildew, or insect, or disease. There it shall be secured, where no snow can fall upon it, no winds can molest it. It shall be safe and secure; and joyful shall be the time when harvest home shall be proclaimed, and the shock of corn, fully ripe, shall be carried into the farmer's garner. Such is the aged man. He, too, shall soon be taken home. Death is even now sharpening his sickle, and the angels are getting ready their chariot of gold to bear him up to the skies. The barn is built; the house is provided; soon the great Master shall say, "Bind up the tares in bundles to burn, and gather the wheat into my barn."
This week my family ventured back to my parent's hometown to attend a funeral for dad's sister-in law, Aunt Jeannette. A simple woman of beauty and grace she was much more at home in her small country town than going out and about in the world, but her greatest epitaph is she was a woman of God, whose unfaltering faith endured through these past eight years of struggle and pain. Her funeral, filled to capacity, celebrated her life in Christ and it just felt good to witness the love exhibited by everyone in attendance... The day was a fine autumn day reveling in the glory of first autumn's hues as we left home but as we ascended into the mountains of southwest Virginia the color began to blaze... the glory of God's world took the sting out of our journey.... and as the day unfolded our once downcast spirits were uplifted to the heavenlies because of the wonderful hope we have in Jesus... for the death of a christian is not something to mourn, really, but it is a going home a release and a blessing! The following poemwas read by the minister:
Miss Me-But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not for too long
and not with your head held low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me- but let me go.
For this is a journey that we must take
and each must go alone
It's all part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me- but let me go.

For each of us in the family, we all come to the cemetery with a differing view... for some it is with remembrance of those who have gone before us and the renewed feelings of loss..

for some it is like my parents who will soon be knocking at heaven's gate... and for myself who will be bearing that bittersweet feeling of grief.. but one thing is a surety... our days are numbered and we all must travel that road, praise God His children will not be alone... for our wonderful Savior, Jesus, will walk through the shadow of the valley of death along side us..

Daily Pearls
Daily Pearls
Through my window: A rather lazy Sunday afternoon is just skittering by.... a wonderful breeze is wafting in the window, which negates the sunny bright heat that radiates off everything else.... the very tips of the maples are tinged in russet..the dogwoods are proudly primacy in their autumnal transformation....the sound of bouncing basketballs on the school pavement across the street punctuates the air. Occassionally, the revved up motors of sports and utility vehicles grind into action as revelers enjoy this fine, fair day..It appears to be a grand day for motoring as there is a steady stream of autos coming and going.
Through my door: It was delightful to leave for church this morning as we purposefully set out to attend our new Sunday School class.... and we will soon venture out back to church this evening to have an informal time with our new senior pastor as he quizzes us in an effort to get to know his flock...
Hearing: A lone dog has been barking rhythmically most of the afternoon, and aside from that, I am hearing the realtor closing up the Open House new door.... it is so sad to realize our good neighbors are gone and their home sits empty, dark, and so forlorn.... praying for a lovely retired couple to downsize and move right in.... the perfect home for that...
What's Cooking: Well, I don't plan to do any cooking tonight... tomorrow I will be cooking to take to a family from our class who is experienceing a terrible personal tragedy...
Hearth and Home: Mainly sprucing up the home for autumn... I did purchase a lovely pillow for the sunroom last week at Kohl's and I am stocking up on those waxless candles that run on battery... I just love those .. never more will I fear burning the house down, or scorching the hutch with a burning candle.... my one main paux pas of my early homemaking career.
Healthy Living: Well, in the morning I am leading our First Place Bible Study for Health and If I will just apply the lesson that I know in my mind to the intent of my heart and will it would really help me to overcome the pull of food in my flesh... and I would really begin to see the evidence of controlled eating in my life... plus I am hoping with the onset of cooler weather my friend and I will rededicate ourselves to walking.
Creative Corner: Blogging appears to be my main creative outlet thses days.
Reading:
Healing the Nations a Study of Ephesians by Jim Tarter,
Revelation Bible study by Beth Moore
The Errors in the King James Bible by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, answers every major attack on the King James text, and demonstrated that no one ahs ever proved an error in the text... Interesting book...
Random Thoughts: Has anyone else begun to think that it may be prudent to start stockpiling food?
Praying: So many prayer requests for loved one, friends, for sicknesses, emtional problems, employment, finances, world problems, National problems, community problems, the election, our church and our pastor's transition, to know God's will for my life personally, .. the list goes on....
Planning: Have to take my parents up to the country one day this week for a funeral for my aunt.. dad's youngest SIL... time to see the family but under such sad circumstances...Praise God, Aunt Jeannette is with her heavenly Father today and all her pain is gone.
Simple Pleasures: I love the music on my blog... I keep it playing all day long.

The Simple Woman's Daybook
My Daybook
FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is a cloudy morning, and cool, only 50 degrees.. There is a 30% chance of rain this morning and I rather love this fallish weather! Time to pull out the sweaters and jackets....
I am thinking... I am so ecstatic about our church ... our new senior pastor spoke for the first time in that position and he is really great! We have had the benefit of Pastor Schemm's teaching for several months as he was our interim pastor during out time of seeking and healing following a time of upheaval in our body... He is a man of honor, wisdom, a great expositor who speaks boldly and truthfully from the scriptures.... yet, he is fun-loving, a fabulous role model and father to 8 children and desirous of bringing our church back to a place of love, unity, and a place where Christ is manifest to the world.... strife in the church in the past couple of years has really taken its toll, but brighter days are here, praise God! To see our dear pastor follow this link:

I am thankful for... God's hand on our church and His work in Lynn and my life together in the church. Yesterday was a real red letter day. Our dearest friends joined the church in the early service so Lynn and I attended that one and just really enjoyed the freshness of the early session... Then we visited a new Sunday School class and felt drawn to make a change in that area as well, so yesterday was a real new beginning all around...
From the kitchen... I am thinking I want to introduce Lynn to a lovely dish I learned about from a pot luck luncheon in our choir.. scalloped pineapple casserole...
This scalloped pineapple casserole is a wonderful accompaniment to ham or pork.
Cook Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Ingredients:
•1 cup butter
•2 cups sugar
•4 eggs, beaten
•1/4 cup milk
•4 cups white bread cubes
•1 can (20 ounces) crushed pineapple
Preparation:
Cream together butter, sugar, and eggs. Stir in remaining ingredients and blend well. Place in a buttered 11x7-inch baking dish; bake at 375° for 15 minutes, then at 350° for about 50 to 60 minutes.
Serves 6 to 8.
I am wearing... Jeans and a sweater... aw... I love autumn!
I am creating... a cosy autumn home.... putting all semblances of summer away,,, removing the cool colors and pulling out the warm!
I am going... to the symphony tonight. This is opening night and the programme promises to be wonderful with a guest violinist
Tchaikovsky - Marche Slave
Shostakovich - Violin Concerto No. 1
Rimsky-Korsakov - Flight of the Bumblebee
Elgar - "Enigma" Variations
I am reading... so many wonderful things:
Healing Nations by Jim Tarter a study on EWphesians
Here and Now.... There and Then,,, by Beth Moore... a study on Revelation
Daily Victory, Daily Joy... a Bible Study from First Place for Health
The "Errors" in the King James Bible by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman.. BTW,, this book really demonstrates answers to every major attack on the words of the King James text, and shows that no error has ever been proven in the text.
and as I am able, I enjoy Lynn Kurland's latest book, One Enchanted Evening
I am hoping... to lose about 3 pounds this week...
I am hearing... Pastor Schemm's teaching from the above link... I hope you take time out and listen... it is really good.
Around the house... if it's Monday,,, it's laundry... but I have to go to Bible Study first this morning... and perhaps out for coffee with a friend... yayay!
One of my favorite things...I enjoy watching the Food network... how wonderful to watch Iron Chef and see master chef, Ming Tsai competing... We were thrilled to eat at his restaurant in Wellesley, Massachusetts this summer when we visited out daughter and son-in-law in Boston.
A few plans for the rest of the week...
Monday:
Bible Study on First Place for Health, luncheon, laundry, symphony
Tuesday: Allergy shot, Kohl's shopping trip and lunch out with the girls, grocery shopping for my mom
Wednesday: Bible Study on Healing the Nations study of Ephesians, dinner at church, Bible prayer time with the Pastor Study
Thursday: choir practice, senior pot luck, Bible Study on Revelation
Saturday:having a tree cut down and yard clean up
A picture thought I am sharing

Alas, Lynn had to take the photo... but my other favorite people on earth!!

Pink Saturday
One of my favorite periodicals is TeaTime... such a beautiful and inspiring magazine! Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, their October issue is celebrating the major steps in curing early diagnosed cancer by highlighting several overcomers... the living testimonies of overcomers in all areas are the backbone of our faith. I am reminded here that if you have any trouble in your life that you have overcome, the sharing of your testimony is tantamount to helping others who are going through the same issues. Let's all keep our living testimonies ready to share at a moments notice... and if you know a breast cancer survivor/overcomer by all means, invite her over for tea... or better yet, plan your own tea party to celebrate
