A n English Country Tablescape for this Auspicious Occasion

Photobucket

Being the anglophile that I am,  I am enraptured with the excitement going on across the pond this week..
Photobucket
Of course like everyone else in the world  I am dreaming of the romantic fervor and thrill that must be taking over  the lives of Prince William and his bride to be Kate Middleton  this evening... gone, for probably forever  are the carefree evenings around hearth and home....  as these two embark on the royal extravaganza of a wedding of the century, and all the myriad ways that their lives will be  changed from now on.....I know  that I, for one, am praying that they can rise above the furor and enjoy this very personal and life changing event as two souls become one in God's marvelous plans...  and even though this wedding will exemplify everything that is fabulously  ornate, oozing the wealth of the monarchy, for my part,  I am more inclined to celebrate the pastoral beauty of an English countryside as I set my table this evening....
Photobucket
capturing the essence of Britain,  my color scheme reflects the blues, reds, and whites of the Union Jack, the purples and lilacs of royalty, and the serene ambiance of a country dale where  lazy sheep wander.

Photobucket
I imagine that the simple folk of the  country cottage are pulling together the best that they have to ring the bells of matrimony over the royal couple...
Photobucket

Fresh picked lilacs and wildflowers along the hedge rows...

Photobucket
The  Sunday best red transferwear china  that came down through the family...  Grandma Higgins  silk damask  linens from Waterford, and the vintage 1876 flatwear  from Germany..

Photobucket
Any special crystal piece,   like this jam jar,    passed down through the family or
Photobucket
the crystal candlesticks and footed bowl from Aunt Tilly,  would be brought forward for just such a time as this auspicious celebration!
And hidden away, tucked up under the flowering centerpiece, a tribute to the love match that a prince and his lady love have made, a heart with intertwining branches, upon which reposes a pair of love birds,  might adorn this tablescape.
 Photobucket
A country table in England in a cosy cottage  afar off in the Yorkshire Dales just might hint at  love  of a prince for his lady  and for a monarchy  that begins a time of great joy and expectation!

Tablescape Thursday

Today is Maundy Thursday  and a day to remember our Lord's last supper.  Last year our family commemorated this day by celebrating Passover which was the Old Testament feast that Our Lord Jesus celebrated that night with His disciples.  Not a sad day at all, Passover is a day of celebration and joy as the Israelites   praised God for delivering them out of the bondage of slavery.   Christians today can celebrate joyfully, too, as Jesus Christ came to deliver us from the bondage of sin!
The Passover meal is known as the Seder.
Photobucket
The Seder Plate  is used symbolically throughout the meal   hosting various ceremonial  foods,  but this is in addition to the beautiful meal one serves for dinner...
Photobucket

My presentation of the seder plate..
Photobucket
Our table represented  all that was best of springtime... flowers from our garden!
Photobucket

During the ceremony  the leader,  sips from four glasses of wine all representing the blood of redemption.
Photobucket
To appreciate the sacrifice of our Lord and give honor and praise to Him  a lovely and best presentation is beneficial to help set the tone and the reverence of the meal.
I used my American Federal China in the Portland pattern  that I inherited from Lynn's family.   Using   family heirlooms  seems to keep traditions alive in these special family celebrations;  The wine glasses were  a set we purchased the first year of our marriage in Germany....  again, the tradition of something old and familiar....

Photobucket\
For this occasion I enjoyed using my Willow Tree angles as  table  sentinels reminding us of the special guest we felt was present during the evening...joining us, also,  for the meal were my mom and dad..

Our meal   ....very Eastery, healthy, and tasty!
We ended our celebration with a candle vigil as we sang some wonderful hymns of praise and thanksgiving!

Three or More Tuesday

Photobucket

Spring mornings offer such different moods, some are so quick to offer up their glorious arrays of color
Photobucket
So that even taken through window panes and mesh wire screens, the colors appear vibrant and full of life!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Then other mornings  are slow to rise,,  as heavy fog lies on the ground obscuring the reality  of spring,, hidden away is the drama of color  just barely peeking out from behind the dense mist!

But our feathered friends will take the morning however they find it!

FOR TODAY

I am off to a slow start this week...  Monday was a rather hectic day and just couldnt get my post up in time... so I am posting today and the day is really a carbon copy weather day.... sure to be absolutely gorgeous, mild, clear, and breezy!  As I look outside my studio window is is what I see!
Photobucket
I am thinking...about this being Holy Week....  a time to take special notice of Jesus, his sacrifice, His love and mercy, His redemptive power and His authority that he left with us upon His ascension.  I am thinking of how far short His church has fallen in this generation  the complacency  of the past 60 years  in allowing the enemy to encroach upon and devour our society,, our children,  our moral decay, and our economy.  As we approach Resurrection Sunday I pray that  Christians everywhere will attend to private devotions that will resonant a spirit of   personal as well as corporate revival across our land.   A revival that will inspire a multitude of prayer warriors who will intercede for our country our families, our communities and the world...

I am thankful for...  my life,  my family, my church,  my spiritual family,  our home, and most of all my salvation and Christ in me

From the kitchen.. tonight  we  will be enjoying crab cakes,  cole slaw,  lobster bisque

I am wearing..pink and white checked   bermudas  and white tee

I am creating...  well actually putting the house back to order... we had water in the sunroom following the torrential rain of Saturday  and the furniture and decor is all amuck.  Time to put it back together!

I am reading...  Ministries of Mercy by Timothy J. Keller  This book is actually to help mold my heart   to be merciful through church ministry... Heaven is for Real, by Todd Burpo. I highly recommend this book.  It is such a joy to rad and offers so much hope about God's kingdom! Im thinking of starting a novel  that my friend  got for me at the library book sale...   Robin Pilchur's  A Risk Worth Taking!   Looks really great!

I am hoping....to be able to get through today with flying colors.   Today I take my parents to the doctor for their checkups
This entails taking mom in her new wheel chair which is extremely heavy to lift in and out of the car for me
Im trying to work through it  and dad will have his seated walker which  in itself takes up the whole back of the Pathfinder.  This is our first time to take them both out together  since we got the chair.... I am so thankful to have both of my parents  but it is times like these that can  be challenging.

Around the house.... Lynn and I have been thinking abut a project for our downstairs bathroom,  enlarging it and modernizing the shower.... just the very first stages of thinking about it though

One of my favorite things....planning....   I am always looking forward to something to plan... This bathroom remodel will be an awesome undertaking for us ...  and it really needs to be gotten underway....

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Monday - I met  and taught   Bible Study,   made sandwiches to take to the Blood Drive,  took Lynn to the doctor,, ate out at Anthony's  , nice dinner, spoke to our dear daughter on the phone

Tuesday-   devotions allergy shot,   marketing, parents to the doctor

Wednesday- day off to enjoy!  WOW   devotions  and prayer time  plan  a passover time for our family

Thursday- Take Lynn for some tests  Choir practice and luncheon  contemplate Passover

Friday-  devotions and prayer   Good Friday Service at church

Saturday-  Devotion and prayer at Lynne's

A glimpse into my life
PhotobucketPhotobucket

It will be lovely  getting the back room back in order.   The historic storm that passed through the south over the weekend left its mark on us.. We got water under the door.. the outside drains just could not handle the torrential flood of water..  Everything had to be cleaned and sanitized and dried out. But we are thankful  that we only got about an inch of nuisance water under our door.   Some people we know got much much worse!

Simple Pleasure

Project Simple Pleasures2

Visit this  lovely blog, A Collection of This and That by Dayle who  hosts this great theme each week.

I really enjoy looking for the simple pleasures each day brings me
this week  on Wednesday  I had the great pleasure of hosting my mom's 88th birthday.  Our Bible Study group shared in this auspicious day and my mom was totally delighted..
PhotobucketOur group  spends a goodly portion of our study time in praise and prayer... which set the perfect attitude for our celebration .  MOm  was so happy to be a part of the group for this day,,, something she hadn't been able to do for some time...
I enjoyed getting our repast for our fellowship time set out  ...
Photobucket
and making sure the sunroom was ready to receive us as we shared about our study,  our lives, and our friendship..
Photobucket
it was truly a sublime day... I only wish you could  see the view out these windows ... how God's creation inspired us and  completed the day with joy!  But to be fair this day took a lot of work so I cant say it was all that simple...BUT...
On Thursday, my husband came home fro lunch and we were able to enjoy the spoils of the day before....now this was truly a pleasure....  dining in a clean room,,
Photobucket

 on  delectable leftovers,

with my sweetie,,,,,  and the view!
