Wednesday Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond

Hosted by Joyce!
1. Last time you moved house? Something you've learned in moving house?
We moved into our current home  July  of 1988. Imagine your new home with  what you plan to take to it  Sell or give away everything else.     Do not  clutter your new home ,especially, if you are  downsizing and  moving for the last time together as a couple. Do not pay to take the clutter.  Keep your new home  delightful and not a headache with all that  stuff!

2. Move mountains, move along, make a wrong move, moved to tears, get a move on, move up, move over, move out of the way, move the deck chairs on the Titanic, move it!...pick one and tell us how it fits your recent circumstances.  I suppose it would be "move it" as I am in that decluttering mood  right now!!

3. What have you been doing to make yourself move (aka stay fit-active) during these strange times?I hae been doing two kinds of physical therapy this year.  for my knees and now for my shoulder,  so  I have plenty of exercises  to do  Keeping up with both of them  do make me feel better and certainly makes me feel stronger!

4. This week's calendar includes celebrations for the following foods-

National Coffee Milkshake Day (Sunday), National Creme Brûlée Day (Monday), National Milk Chocolate Day (Tuesday), National Chicken Wing Day (Wednesday), National Lasagne Day (Wednesday), National Cheesecake Day (Thursday), and National Avocado Day (Friday)

Which one on the list would you be most inclined to celebrate? Which would you be most inclined to skip?  I would love to  celebrate  National Cheesecake Day this week with our daughter  It is her birthday and she loves cheesecake!

5. Next week's Hodgepodge lands in August! I know!! Raise your hand if you feel like July flew by in the blink of an eye? Now bid farewell to your July acrostic style. If you don't know what that means click here.

J ust a line or four  to say  good bye,
U rushed in and hurried  along, I could barely keep up
L  et's raise our glass  to  my   our birthday month this
Y  ear , we barely got to know ya!  BYEEEEEE!

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

Only  1 day to go and my girls will be here!  I can not wait!

2. Do you have a favorite cartoon from
film, news or comic book? I always loved
Lil Nancy as a child, as a teen, I loved
the Pink Panther films.

3. Do you belong to any clubs or societies or organizations?
Can you tell us about it?My most active clubs were Alpha
Delta Kappa as a teacher. I really enjoyed the altruistic
work we did. After retirement I joined the Garden Club.
I loved the new friends I met there, and the impetus on my
own gardening was wonderful for me at that time of my life,
but after about 5 years I gave it up for more involved church work.

4. The internet is filled with ads. Are there any ads that you enjoy
seeing or hate to see? I despise all the ads, especially those that
incessantly pop up and fill a blogger’s page. Or when I was doing
online shopping recently, I still get ads all over the place for items
I actually purchased. Bah humbug.

How am I feeling this morning:: I am so happy to be going for my improvement assessment at therapy this morning, but I do dread the stretches and  necessary pain involved!

On my mind::

I can not wait til Thursday when our daughter and family arrive for breakfast.

On the breakfast plate::
We brought breakfast in this morning.  I had eggs Benedict on an open croissant.

On my reading pile::
Reading/ studying the Books of James and Judges for church.
Our Sunday School teacher is a super thorough  researcher.  This week we are studying James, chapter 4.

On My TV::

I am hooked on
The Netflix  thriller, The Stranger,  a compelling work with many twists and turns
Great British Baking  Competition!

On the menu today::

Fish and chips

From the camera::

Looking around the house::

Day by day the house is coming together for a lovely visit with the kids!

What I am listening to::
I am actually half way watching Blue Bloods while I type this

What am I looking forward to::
Their arrival!

To relax this week, I will::
While I wait for Thursday I may watch  a bit of  Foyle's War   on dvd.

Prayer Requests:
Our president for protection, wisdom, courage, strength of body, clarity

For our government  (William Barr)  for justice to be applied to the corruption that has plagued our country for some time
For this coronavirus to stop in its tracks and not spread any more... Lord, protect the elderly and those in compromised health situations. Protect the health providers and the families where the virus is bringing suffering. I pray that this week we will begin to see a great decline in the number of deaths and the numbers o f healed will increase in Jesus name!.
I pray for inner healing in our nation regarding the ongoing problem with racism and it effects in our society. May the rioting stop in the name of Jesus..  I pray that the Antifa group would  dry up and  disband in Jesus name.  I pray for exponential wisdom  and truth to fall upon our media outlets. They seem to exist to keep turmoil riled up instead of bringing clarity to the situation. I pray they seek things of good repute to report on instead of always the bad..I pray they realize that pouring gasoline on a fire is more damaging than letting it go out of its own accord. I pray for people of every nation, color and creed to learn to live amicably together, that love would heal the divisions in our country. I pray the schemes of the devil that instill more and more unrest to stop in the name of Jesus.  I pray that the demolishing of our national  treasures will stop in Jesus name..   You can not change history through this detruction!

Special prayers for Hobert, Kohanna, Ellie, who have very special and immediate needs.
The lost in these divers places , that they will realize their need for a savior and turn to God through Jesus!
For God's mercy to hover over the earth and give people rest and the forbearance to continue to persevere in their trials and testings!

Saturday 9

The Love Boat

Welcome to Saturday 9.  Hosted by Sam!

Saturday 9: The Love Boat (1977)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The Love Boat ran from 1977 to 1987. It was in the Top 10 for seven of those 10 seasons. Are you familiar with the show? Were you a fan?  Yes, I liked it a lot! I was the right age.(27-37)

2) Every week, viewers followed The Pacific Princess as she set sail to a glamorous destination. Have you ever taken a cruise? If so, where did you go? No, we used to think it would be fun but no more.  We think about river cruises now.

3) Gavin MacLeod played Captain Steubing. Born Allan See, he came up with the stage name by combining the first name of a fictional character he admired, and the last name of a teacher who influenced him. Using his formula, give yourself a stage name. For example, Sam would be Hermione Hart (Hermione from Harry Potter; Hart for her Kindergarten teacher).
 I would be Margaret ( M. Hale from North and South) and (F. From my 7th grade teacher) Forbes.

4) After the series ended, Fred Grandy (aka "Gopher") went on to become a Congressman from Iowa and then CEO of Goodwill Industries. If you had a bag of gently-used items to donate, where would you take them? Goodwill is handy, but we prefer Salvation Army.

5) Ted Lange is best known for his role as the ship's bartender, Isaac. But he began his career performing the classics, and appeared at Colorado Shakespearean Festival and London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Let's class up this joint. Give us a little Shakespeare.

“My bounty is as boundless as the sea,

My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.”
― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

6) Bernie Kopell played the ship's doctor, Adam Bricker. Kopell first appeared on TV in 1961 and was a regular on Get Smart and That Girl, and he's still acting today. But Love Boat was, by far, his favorite role. Working on the show was "absolute heaven" because he was paid to travel the world and meet his acting idols, like Oscar winners Greer Garson, Joan Fontaine and Eva Marie Saint, who appeared on the show. When you think of the best job you have ever had, what made it so good: the pay, the location, the people you met, or the work itself?
That is easy.  I loved my 30 years of working with my students, seeing the light of understanding come on and then enjoying the creativity of application.

7) Lauren Tewes played Cruise Director Julie McCoy. Today she lives in Seattle, appearing in local theater and -- between acting assignments -- working as a chef for a catering service. Have you hosted dinner for more than 8 people? If yes, do you remember what you served? Yes, and it was our first Christmas dinner here in our home.   we had Crown roast with those paper crowns on the rib bones.  And all the trimmings...  since  this was over 30 years ago I  had to find a photo online!

8) For the first nine seasons, the theme was sung by Jack Jones. The Grammy-winning singer says one of his career highlights playing Sky Masterson onstage in Guys and Dolls. In his late 50s at the time, had had to go outside his comfort zone, dancing and acting as well as singing before a live audience. Tell us about something new you tried recently.
We recently   began members in a new church.   Our new church is  so  beloved,  I  find  I am so much happier.. it is  very much smaller.  I can definitely say that every  one of the 25 families who  are  members    are  strong Christians.  We all participate in  every event held in the church.  Everyone  attends  Bible Study, prayer meeting etc. I am the leader of the prayer team there,  and  very much more is placed on me there than I've ever had on me in much larger churches,  But knowing  the  responsibility to lead inand encourage  prayer is so fundamental and important,  it  pushes me to  study more and  to always make myself available whenever the need arises!

9) Random question  -- Which would you rather receive as a gift: one $500 wristwatch, or five $100 wristwatches?I have no need for a new or any wrist watch! I love my retirement watch I received 17 years ago... and it keeps on tickin'!
