Saturday 9

Welcome to Saturday 9. Hosted by Samantha!

Saturday 9: 77 Sunset Strip (1958)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) 77 Sunset Strip was one of TV's early hits, running for six seasons. Before this morning, were you familiar with this show?

I had heard about it but I do not remember watching it! I was probably watching
My favorite show of that time, Route 66

                                                                               https://youtu.be/zw1tiNGQ4wI

2) The show's jazzy theme is punctuated by finger snaps. When you snap your fingers, is the left-handed snap as loud as your right-handed snap?My left hand is louder!

3) The show revolved around Bailey and Spencer Investigations. Stu Bailey and Jeff Spencer were among TV first "private eyes." Who is your all-time favorite TV PI?  Sherlock Holmes,(Benedict Cumberbatch!)
private detective series on TV

      4) Their office had "a fancy label," meaning an attractive address, on Los Angeles' Sunset Blvd. Tell us about the prestige area of your neighborhood.
We live in an older neighborhood in the city, and actually  the prestige area  for our  neighborhood is  the block we live in..The  houses are larger,   the lawns are  more expansive, the houses  are not  too close to one another...  exactly why we picked this area to live in!

5) Next door was Dino's Lodge, the real-life restaurant and bar owned by entertainer Dean Martin. Are you a Dean Martin fan? Yes, probably becasue my parents did!

6 ) The valet at Dino's was Kookie. He was known for his perfect hair, his slang ("ginchy" meant cool, "germsville" was the hospital, "a dark seven" was a bad week) and his desire to someday be a private investigator, like Stu and Jeff. Do you think you'd be a good detective?  No really, although, I am  a great "Clue" player...  But  the  Sherlock Holmes  series I  referenced  showed exactly how lame I would be..

7) Stu and Jeff had a loyal secretary named Suzanne, played by French actress Jacqueline Beer. In real life, she was married to adventurer Thor Heyerdahl, who famously traveled from Peru to French Polynesia by raft. Does 100 days on a raft, sailing the south seas, sound fascinating to you?  No, the tossing waves would terrify me,  but I  enjoyed reading the Kon Tiki in high school!

8) Clint Eastwood was fan of the show and, in the 1990s, tried unsuccessfully to bring 77 Sunset Strip back. Is there a show from the past you'd like to see "rebooted?"Only if I could resurrect the original cast,  but alas...

9) Random question: Thinking about the last week, did you nag anyone? Or were you the one who was nagged? I suppose you'd have to  say I nagged today..  Hubs wanted to go shopping this afternoon,  I nagged until he agreed tomorrow would be best!

  1. Fun answers. I don't remember ever watching that show when I was young. It may have been before my time. Have a fun weekend.

  2. I enjoyed your answers because I agree that some things (solving mysteries, rafting to Polynesia) are best enjoyed through the pages of a book. ;)

  3. I enjoyed reading your answers. Kon Tiki sounds sort of familiar to me...wondering if I might have read it back in the day. Everything Polynesian was "in" at one time so I guess it's possible. I really should watch Sherlock Holmes one of these days.
    Have a blessed day!

  5. Yes, I read Kon Tiki. Part of me wanted to be on that raft. The practical side of me does not.
