We are now completely banked on two sides by windows which provide quite the drama for our mealtime enjoyment. We love the birds which have found home in the birdhouses we have established and the feeders demand our attention especially at breakfast! This week since Lynn has been recouperating luncheons have been really "new" experiences and has made our eating at home much more interesting.

Show and Tell Friday
Kelli of There is No Place Like Home hosts this each week. It is always fun to visit her site to see more. Many of you know that this time last week we were excited about laying new tile over half of the downstairs... the kitchen, hall, and sunroom. It took several days to get things sort of back in shape... but not until after we rearranged some of the major components. For Amanda's sake, ...she asked for fotos to see the changes.... I am submitting the new dining area in the sun room. We placed the table across the room from its original resting place and I really like it!
Favorite Family Foto
Even though Deborah has taken sabbatical from hosting this theme I still would love to post some fotos of my favorite family member Lynn from his procedure he had this week. Now you probably think... what... how horrible of Carolyn to do such a thing, but actually Lynn requested that for our family documentation and so the family can share in what has gone on Lynn wanted me to take these photos and blog on them.
Last summer Lynn knew he'd have to have another kidney blast to pulverize the remaining stone on his left side and he put it off as long as he could. Tuesday we had him at the hospital by 5am.
Last summer Lynn knew he'd have to have another kidney blast to pulverize the remaining stone on his left side and he put it off as long as he could. Tuesday we had him at the hospital by 5am.
I am always amazed how busy that place is even at such am early hour. The surgical waiting room was completely full. This time they wouldnt let me go with him until after they had him all set for surgery so I was called back there after about an hour. Then we got to wait in the surgical /recovery section for at least another hour.
This year they have done away with the toasty warmed blankets they used to offer patients...which I always loved, and replaced them with disposable gown that hooks up to a heat pump and warm air fills up an inner bladder that keeps the patient comfy.
Lynn appears to be showing no discomfort or anxiety at all. Praise God!
Finally after meeting with the surgeon and the anesthetist, he was prepared to go in around 7:15.
I went down to the coffee shop and had a coffee and enjoyed watching the city come to life.
Knowing that the procedure would take about a half hour, I hurried back to the waiting room to see the doctor who so graciousy comes to speak to me in person instead of a lame phone call.
He was there by 8 on the dot.
And then I was called to see Lynn following recovery at a little before 9!
Following his first trip to the john, he realized he must have had a struggle sometime for his "bladder" had come disconnected! He asked me to line up the shot so that the clock would reveal the truth of just how wonderfully well he did get along on this trip for his lithotrypsy!
By this time even being on drugs and a tad woozy, his appetite was kicking in so he requested a stop at the Roanoker where he ordered eggs, bacon, and pancakes!
we praise God for His provision of safety, security, healing, and recovery through this trial. Actually, because we were documenting it I believe the light-heartedness and laughter we experienced through it all helped in setting the tone of cheerfuness and a real freedom from fear. Even so, though we give God all the glory for going before us and paving the way, being with the doctors, and protecting us from any germs we might have come in contact with there.
God is good all the time!

Amanda's Birthday on Sunday
Yesterday was Amanda's birthday and the great news was that Lynn and I along with my parents got to celebrate it with her in person on Sunday. even though we had to choose a place somewhere in the middle... we were able to carve out a very happy time together!
Just as we arrived and were getting mom settled I looked up and Amanda and Joshua were coming through the door. Of course, we had only driven a couple of hours, they had flown to Richmond for the weekend and had driven up to Charlottesville to meet us for dinner. But to just see her was almost surreal.. I see her so much in virtual reality in funny like facebook depictions which actully do make the separation at least bearable, but there she came... in reality... and our hearts skipped a beat. Mothers of only children are bound to know exactly what I mean... not to say that other moms dont... but it was just so good to see them both!
At 24 Amanda has accomplished so much.... graduated with her master's, married and living in the outskirts of a huge metropolitan center as an assistant research scientist for a major biological company. All that as well as a concert violinist and acomplished pianist! A lovely
Christian young woman to boot! God has blessed our family mightily!
Pop Pop and MamaJean certainly agree!
It thrills a mother's heart to see her daughter so very happily in love and settled in her new life with her wonderful, handsome husband!
But this one also just blesses my heart... daughter with her dad!
All too soon our celebration was over and we were driving home with full hearts and wonderful memories!
A Time to Think
Each today, well lived,
makes yesterday a dream of happiness
and each tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look, therefore, to this one day,
for it and it alone is life.—Anonymous
Life is meaningless apart from Christ... we are His church!Through Him we have life!
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him
John 3:36
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Metamorphosis Monday
Whew! I am so happy to be able to at last share in this fantastic meme! I have been chompin' at the bit to have something to morph! At last, we have accomplished an improvement that I am just tickled pink to share! I failed to produce adequate before photos... suffice it to say our kitchen floor has needed updating for some time. The sunroom floor was still fashionable and serviceable, but the new change is so welcome! Of course, to begin such an undertaking one must just accept the fact that the house will be turned up end!
Furniture from the sunroom, kitchen and hall were moved into every available space. This required hutches and cabinets to be unloaded and and decisions to be made regarding what to keep, throw out and donate. YAYA! At last a reason to downsize! And YAYA! praise the Lord for such a true blue friend as Dottie who came over and helped me more all this stuff!
Even at that the dining table was laden with the keepers.
Then the day came to begin the process of preparation and application.
Now the sunroom hosts this lovely new surface
The kitchen not only has a marvelous new floor, but the need for added cabinets has been reduced by moving the hutch to that wall.
I love the new arrangement! And I have new impetus to continue downsizing and sorting out more stuff to take to the Discovery shop in a few weeks!
For more projects click here!
PS Just for Amanda who wants to know the changes around the house here are additional photos:
The hall now sports the halltree instead of the bookcase which really opens the space~
And now that the halltree is out of the livingroom it seems less cluttered! Dear REL has a home now!

Pink Saturday
Happy Pink Saturday!
What a glorioius day we have been given today!
With doors that none but the wind ever closes,
Its floor all littered with glass and with plaster;
It stands in a garden of old-fashioned roses.
I pass by that way in the gloaming with Mary;
'I wonder,' I say, 'who the owner of those is.'
'Oh, no one you know,' she answers me airy,
'But one we must ask if we want any roses.'
So we must join hands in the dew coming coldly
There in the hush of the wood that reposes,
And turn and go up to the open door boldly,
And knock to the echoes as beggars for roses.
'Pray, are you within there, Mistress Who-were-you?'
'Tis Mary that speaks and our errand discloses.
'Pray, are you within there? Bestir you, bestir you!
'Tis summer again; there's two come for roses.
'A word with you, that of the singer recalling--
Old Herrick: a saying that every maid knows is
A flower unplucked is but left to the falling,
And nothing is gained by not gathering roses.'
We do not loosen our hands' intertwining
(Not caring so very much what she supposes),
There when she comes on us mistily shining
And grants us by silence the boon of her roses.

Three or More Tuesday
Visit The Gypsy's Corner for more Three or More Tuesday!
Over the weekend I took my parents back to their hometown for a family reunion. We hadnt been back for this event in a few years... it is difficult to see the changes in so many. Time goes by so quickly.
Dad enjoyed the accolades for having turned 90 that day!
Mom enjoyed catching up with her sister!
I enjoyed seeing cousins I hadnt seen in eons.
Some cousins I had never met before. This little fellow almost had a fire going!
And this cousin at 87 always mazes me with her youthful exuberance and joie de viv!
I wanted to share these for Amanda and hope that som day she'll be able to return to the old time family reunion with us!
Everyone always asks "How is that little Amanda?"
I'd always say, " She's now a research scientist living outside of Boston!" Us Coxes are known to be braggarts, but hey, I'm just telling the facts!

Pink Saturday
Welcome to Pink Saturday and I apologize for being late today but this is a huge day for me... prayer team meeting first thing followed by important meeting updates and followup, then preparing to take my parents to a family reunion this afternoon 2 hours away and celebrating my dad's 90th birthday which is actually today! Pease bear with me!!!
Today I wanted to share some more lovely pinks and photos of my dear friends gardens. I am so blessed to be able to enjoy these beauties with each visit!
I just have to go here... I know purple isnt pink, but when it is this gorgeous I have to add it and say it is a deep, deep pink, what say you?
How about this one... a little lighter shade??
Alright this may be a far stretch for pink,...
But lovely all the same! And sometimes just absence of pink is very beautiful. God's creativity is evident in every shade and hue!
This fellow dares you to disagree eh!
Or, as Dottie calles her garden flag, "The Angry Bluebird!"
