Ruby Tuesday

I have enjoyed the splash of ruby red in my life the past few days...
These gorgeoous treasures from the garden liberally splash across my kitchen counter every afternoon when Lynn brings in that day's bounty!
Photobucket
The savory red of the vibrant geraniums on the porch declare the wonderful weather, temps and rain the Lord has provided this summer which has keep the blossoms looking fresh and bright!
Photobucket
The crepe myrtle finally has decided to show off a bit.. this its first year to bloom.
Photobucket
Hope you enjoy the popping good nature of "rubies" in your world!!

Tempt My Tummy Tuesday

Photobucket
Tonight I fixed a delectable broccoli salad. The inspiration being the discussion I shared with my friend Dottie last week, when she shared about how her mom loved it so. I realized I hadn't made it is quite a long time and I had a lovely head in the fridge that needed to be used up... so
Broccoli Salad
I used a recipe that my coworker had given me years ago but tweaked it some, according to the ingredients I had on hand, so this is a variation.
3 spears of broccoli chopped
1 small sweet onion, chopped
1/2 c shredded swiss cheese
6 crisp strips of bacon, microwaved and crumbled
dressing:
1/2 c mayonaise
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 c. sugar
dash of vinegar to taste, about 1 1/2 T
Mix well and serve it up
Now I wish I had added the dried cherries I had left from another dish I made. That would have been the special secret ingredient... but this dish was a huge hit with my husband... I am happy!

FOR TODAY August 31, 2009...
Outside my window... a cool, overcast, but muggy typical late summer day. The forecast shows no rain, and cooler temps for the week!

I am thinking... how grand it will be when soon, we will leave for our northern excursion.

I am thankful for... godly wisdom.. I pray that heavenly wisdom will temper me more and more with every action... every relationship... every thought... every motive.

From the kitchen... I am aiming to clean out the fridge and use up as much as possible... a head of broccoli is calling to me... broccoli salad is on my agenda!

I am wearing... white tee and cornflower blue capris.

I am creating... a tune list on and repetoire of favorite songs for my mp3 player to take on our trip. Hopefully this will replace our jammed cd player and give me some musical relief over the long, long road to Amanda's

I am going... to be getting all the laundry done for packing. I am excited to say that Lynn received an award for 35 years service... a new21 inch American Tourister carryon bag he's letting me use on this trip!!! I love all the bells and whistles it has!!!

I am reading... The Wedding, by Julia Garwood, the Psalms, Watchman Prayer,by Dutch Sheets

I am hoping... that this ridiculous dread of travelling over long bridges will cease and desist from me... because the map reveals several lengthy bridges along our planned routes. I am not scared of the structure, but of the other drivers on the bridge. I know that there is no good reason to harbor these fears... I am working on them!

I am hearing... the whirring of the ceiling fan which is creating such a deliciously cool breeze in the room. all else is quiet and serene on this lazy August afternoon.

Around the house... right now the house has several staging areas where items for packing are accumulating. The dining room table hosts things Amanda left with us when they moved to the Boston area... things they asked us to bring up the first time we visited. The guest room bed is the staging room for the packing of my clothes. The sunroom is staging the packing of the incidentals we always need on any vacation...and will eventually hosts all the bags and paraphenalia needed to insure our comfort on journey away from home.

One of my favorite things... is planning trips and choosing the wonderful places to stay in route. This trip requires an overnight coming and going.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Monday:
Meet with the church leadership to discuss the prayer ministry direction
Luncheon with Dottie
Organize organize organize
Tuesday:
Pack, pack Pack
Wednesday:
Ageless Group Bible study- outreach luncheon
Take mom and dad to the dentist and to Sam's
Church fellowship dinner, business meeting
everything from here on is uncertain and yet to be decided

Here is picture I thought I 'd share with you

Now this is something which is certain to please my palate... dinner out at Sechzuan! Wheww, doggies! That is mighty good!

God in My Life

A couple of years ago just as we had left one church and were going to our current church, I was contemplating just how my Christian service would evolve. I was feeling completely burnt out in my previous role as hospitality chair. The thought of planning one more fellowship dinner was most undesirable to me. I was also somewhat uninterested in teaching children's Sunday School after many years in that position. Lynn and I both were ready for something new.... but what we did not know. One Wednesday during Bible Study which I actually still attended at the old church ( I still do after 2 1/2 years) I cannot give up that fellowship! God gave me a word... a rhema word... in my spirit to look for the open door. I actually wrote about it on this blog. I couldn't imagine what that new door could be. Our current church is huge... and somewhat intimidating... we had determined to take things slow and not to jump into anything. We were enjoying so much attending adult Sunday School together for the first time in many, many years.
Our new church offered so many new opportunities for Bible study and I was hungry to catch up after so many missed opportunities when I was working. It was not unusual for me to be doing 2 Beth Moores at a time, as well, as my Ageless Wednesday morning group from the old church. And then my BS teacher, Lynne, happened to ask me if I would be interested in coming along side her in a newly established prayer ministry.
Photobucket
Therein began a new focus in my life that has blessed me beyond measure. A whole new outlook... and deeper understanding in my spirit. Wonderful new, close friends, sweet, sweet fellowship in the spirit. We started meeting to pray for our church every other Saturday morning. Soon we were asked by the church staff to think about helping to establish a real prayer initiative for the church incorporating an actual prayer room whose goal would be to move toward 24/7 prayer. Wow... what an assignment! But God did it!
The next thing we knew we were a group of seven truly dedicated women whose spiritual backgrounds meshed together in such complete unity and love that our combined energy, and God's empowerment applied to the task and last night we introduced the new prayer room to the church. The Upper Room of Prayer became operational!
In the beginning we were given a vacant Sunday School room on the third floor at the end of the hall. The room was divided with a new wall and door leading from the anteroom room we planned for ministry, and an inner court... chapel. We pulled some chairs together in the anteroom and prayer there for months... all the while dreaming and wondering how to make this happen without a budget or operating funds. We plied our skills and ideas around and around many avenues... but for several months God seemed quiet and we didn't act. Our main concern would be that whatever we did with the space that it would be accepted and used by the body! When just a couple of months ago one of our ladies decided to provide her beautiful handmade drapes and an alter cloth, the next thing you knew things just starting falling out of heaven.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
A church member gave us her barely used sofa and love seat for the ministry room and we pooled our money and bought a desk at Walmart which completely filled our needs.
Upon speaking to our church handy man the next thing we knew we had our gorgeous focal point in the chapel.
Photobucket
complete with focused spotlights and a dimmer for effect.
Photobucket
A fountain on the wall in there
Photobucket
and subdued lighting complete a reverent and tranquil atmosphere. Our prayers over the past several months have anointed that space whereby one feels God's presence each time one enters in! Glory to God! He made it happen. He has entrusted this ministry to us and made it all happen as only he could do...
Majesty! Kingdom Authority!
Flows from His throne, unto His own,
His anthem raise!

Tempt My Tummy, Tuesday

This weekend I made a dish I hadn't made for a while:
One dish chicken stirfry over curried rice
Photobucket
I made enough to serve six, but actually I shared with my parents and then had enough for 2 meals for Lynn and myself.
Rice
2 cups of water salted with 1T butter
2 cups of Minute Rice
1T curry
Boil the water, add the seasonings, and rice. Bring to boil again then set off the eye and let it do its thing! Fluff it with a fork occassionally. Ready in about 5 minutes.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Stirfry
1 package of chicken fingers, cut up into small pieces
1 red pepper cut into strips
1 red onion, halved, then sliced thinly
Add into a skillet coated with olive oil and saute on medium high to high.
Photobucket
Photobucket
add seasonings
3 T. soy sauce
1tsp. garlic powder
1T.ginger
1T. curry
1T. sugar stir and coat well.
Photobucket
Cover skillet and turn heat down and let it simmer until chicken is done through. ..about 5 minutes.
Add
can of peas, drained
1/2 c. salted peanuts
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Warm through and time to dish out.
Place the rice in a serving bowl and spoon stirfry over it and serve! It is a delicious complete meal in one dish! My family loves this terrific comfort food and it's ready in about 15 minutes. I, also, used bits and pieces of things I had in my fridge. A partial pepper and onion left from the night before. You could also use things like fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery, whatever you have. I had about a quarter of a small can of nuts which I just threw in. Nuts make everything taste better.

For Today...
August 24, 2009
Outside my window...
we were awakened this morning with a blast of heavy rain, but it appears now that the conditions are improving and it will probably be another muggy August day.
I am thinking...
about our wonderful trip north next week. I am anxiously awaiting our visit with Amanda and Joshua! I can't wait!!!
I am thankful for...
our family... I awoke suddenly about 3 this morning from a disturbing dream... so I just lay there thanking the Lord for about an hour for all the blessings of life. He showed me just how fortunate we are in our family, home, church, friends. It was a wonderful time with the Master.
From the kitchen...
nothing particularly planned as of yet... umm, I'll have think about this one some more!
I am wearing...
white tee and red capris.
I am reading...
Watchman Prayer by Dutch Sheets.
I am hoping...
for a beautiful week this week which will necessarily produce an even more wonderful week next week as we leave on our trip. I am hoping for gorgeous fall-like weather!
I am praying...
for our continued blessings on our church as we travel this road without a fulltime pastor. For spiritual healing and unity for the body. ...for physical healing for so many within the body!
Around the house..
I need to finish some vaccuuming... I hate to vacuum, actually!
One of my favorite things..
listening to Scottish music. One of my favorite songsters, is Dougie Maclean! I have all of his cd's but unfortuantely, they are all stuck in my car's cd drive. I'd love to get them loose before our trip. Lynn read online last night you can put double stick tape on something like a paint scrapper and carefully slide it into the slot and perhaps dislodge one cd which would cause the others to pop out. I'm off to the store to find some double stick tape today!
Plans for the rest of the week..
Monday: I am taking my mom to the doctor this morning to check on her leg. She sustained a nasty cut on her lower leg over the weekend. Last report it was healing very nicely, but the doctor wishes to see it. Great doctor, that!
Tuesday: Work at the church in the prayer room. Lynn and I bought spotlights that are being installed today which will shine on the cross in the place of 2 flourescent lights in the chapel. Dottie is purchasing Christmas twinkle lights we want to place on the ficus trees. Make sure the rollodex is once and for all ready for Wedneday night .. our first churchwide viewing of the prayer room!
Wednesday: Ageless Bible Study group
Wednesday night fellowship dinner,... the prayer team hosts the prayer room visitation from the church,... Bible study
Thursday or Friday: I will join friends for a luncheon at a local Indian restaurant... my first Indian cuisine.. Looking forward to that. (BTW, Amanda will be interested... joining Carole Jean, Leanna, and Dottie. Wish you were here, too!)
Sometime... hoping to walk and stop in for coffee, Dottie!
Here are a couple of pictures I thought I'd shre this morning:
Photobucket
Amanda has been wondering what this side of the sunroom looks like since we put in the new floor and moved furniture. A dining table used to occupy this space. This is far from finished. We have this sofa on a waiting list to be reupholstered. Then I also plan to substitute the coffee table with tables that are now downstairs. So this is definitely a before photo until the sofa is altered.
Photobucket
The dining table now resides on the other side of the room which makes for enjoyable dining complete with dramatic views. The room seems much larger with this arrangement. I just purchased a lovely new table cloth I am now using on this table which puts me in a very autumnal mood! Come, September!
Anyway, my darling Amanda now can picture the sunroom as it makes its gradual change.

Skywatch Friday

Photobucket
This summer the sky has been phenomenally beautiful, and no time any more gorgeoous than just this week. With the threat of August storms the turbulant skies have presented one drama after another....simply breathtaking to behold! I took these shots from my church parking lot the other day!
Photobucket
Photobucket
I fully expect all types of signs and wonders when viewing such majesty!

Show and Tell Friday

Photobucket
Last week as we toured Monticello, I was entranced with the red chinese porcelain that was used in the tea room! So gorgeous along side my transferware I knew I had to purchase some... and there was my opportunity as we perused the Williamsburg shop in the Monticello Visitor's Center. I purchased the tea caddy and a tea pot for one.

Photobucket
I love the caddy. Just the right size and the motif with flowers and a birds suits me to a tea!!!
Photobucket
The tea pot, just perfect, for those cool fall afternoons when spot of tea will take the stress off the day!

Word Filled Wednesday

For more WFW visit Critty Joy this morning!

Seeking God with my whole heart, mind, and soul is such a satisfying and fulfilling endeavor. Wanting to know and be known by the Master, that is what we were created for!
Postscript: Someone asked if this photo was taken by me, and yes, while we were visiting Apple Ridge Farm, which I wrote on previously this week, we saw this doe step out into the clearing on a distant hillside and with my telephoto capabiities I was able to snap this shot. I love the way the terrain and foliage add to the overall effect. Eventually, her faun came out as well, but, alas, that photo was too blurred to use!

Three or More Tuesday

Last evening we had our monthly meeting of the P. Buckley Moss Society and we really had a glorious time. We met in our church parking lot and then caravaned about 25 miles up into the mountains to Apple Ridge Farm, a wonderful camp for under priveleged kids. Our host, Mr. Lewis graciously introduced us to the facility for which we are working hard this year to provide some support. Our chapter has a project going on to raffle off a gorgeous framed print and a hand made quilt incorporating a hand painted square of one of Moss's fabulous horses. The proceeds will go to the Farm to help provide services for our area's youth next season! The "farm" hosts many wonderful amenities to provide fun and education.
PhotobucketPhotobucket The kids usually come just for the day, however there are overnight cabins as well. There are all kinds of outdoor arenas for sports activities which we didnt see due to the weather, there s also a science museum.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Mr. Lewis is a great art collector and he had this mural donated by a prominent local artist which provides an enthralling backdrop to the science exhibits and work stations.
Photobucket
Our club met in this wonderful center to have our business and share our box lunches from Heavenly Ham! Very tasty!!! It was a wonderful meeting and a terrific time spent with special friends!

I love this shot I captured yesterday as our motor coach sped along I81 on our homeward bound trek through the Sheanadoah Valley. The clouds were mesmerizing me and I kept trying to capture their majesty. This was my best shot overall!

Friday Morning This and That

I was visiting with Marie this morning and I fell in love with her title for today so I had to incorporate it onto my post as well. It seems to be a day to share about our wonderful yesterdays. Our Thursday was so truly fabulous. Lynn and I were up with the chickens preparing to meet our best friends at church by 6:15. I tell you, you have to get up pretty early with this bunch of precious folk if you want to get 3 seats tgether on the bus,so Dottie, Bill, Gerri, David, and Lynn and I converged on the scene about the same time even though the bus didnt pull out of the parking lot until 7. Then we were off to Monticello. About 2 and a half hours up the Shenandoah Valley, it was great to leave the driving to Mike, as we settled in for a glorious day of fun and fellowship.
The ride up the Valley was so beautiful as the sunlight was awakening.
Photobucket
Dottie and her brother, Bill, sat across from us and Gerri and David sat behind us and we made merry all the way to our destination!
Photobucket
Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, is absolutely gorgeous!
PhotobucketPhotobucket
From every angle the view is captivating!
The architecture and gardens sublime!
Photobucket
Photobucket

By noon we had finished our tour, and had perused the newly opened visitor center, watched the film and shared a iced lemonade. Then we were ready for our luncheon at Michie Tavern at the foot of Jefferson's, "Little Mountain"!!
Photobucket
As we disembarqed from our travelling coach, we were met by our serving wench and led inside to our cozy and delicious banquet of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, beets, corn bread, cole slaw, and fresh baked peach cobbler! Oh, my goodness, was it ever delicious!
Following our luncheon another wench led us on an amazing tour of the tavern and grounds...
Photobucket
Gerri and David listened with rapt attention...
Photobucket
While Dottie and Lynn posed sweetly for the camera.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
The tavern is nestled so cosily amid other outbuildings reminiscent of the times, and one can almost hear the clattering clip clops of horses of weary travellers seeking shelter, a warm meal, and a friendly welcome.
Photobucket

Photobucket
But we couldnt linger... we still had one more stop to go...
Photobucket
One of Jefferson's nearby neighbors was another man of great renown...
none other that President James Monroe. Soon we were turning up this marvelous avenue lined with ash trees....
Photobucket
This opened out to pristine pasture land and a beautiful farm.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
The August flowers and late summer bird and katydids were all vying for our attention at every turn! The senses were completely attuned to the reverie nature was performing around us. It was quite magnificent.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Photobucket
Lynn and David are quite enthralled with our guide's recounting of the building of the farm.
Our guide was amazingly knowledgable and quite expressive in the details and nuances of
every event and artifact... but I was taken with the spreading, majestic oak tree that overtook the scene!
PhotobucketPhotobucket
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Our tour concluded with our eventual escape out a side door ... I mean, I really was entranced by our guide... but he was so long winded and theatrical ... my feet and legs were screaming for relief after about an hour and when the opportunity presented itself, Lynn and I made a beeline for the door.. only to be followed by others one at a time who sought the relief of the airconditioned bus that was waiting down the lane! There comes Dottie, now.
Photobucket
Photobucket
I did say, relief... didn't I! Oh, we did have an amazingly wonderful time together, just as good friends do!

Farewell

After  17 years of   blogging  I am  pretty sad to  just fade  out  with  hardly  anyone showing any   farewell,  concern  about my  surger...
