The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY... from Carolyn's Daybook

Outside my window... March has been preparing to go out like a lion, unless there is a change in the weather.... it has been cool, rainy and windy the last few days... kind of achy bones weather.

I am thinking...what a marvelous trip Lynn and I enjoyed however, cool weather and all... we left last Thursday and spent 4 glorious days at Williamsburg, Virginia.

I am thankful for...the sweetness of time spent just focusing on each other.... after 38 years of marriage it is still wonderful to just refocus spend quality time together.

I am wearing...my aqua pullover and jeans

I am remembering.. all the fantastic meals we enjoyed on our trip... Carrabas... Christiana Campbell's Tavern, The RiverWalk on the York River, The Berkeley House Bed and Breakfast.

I am going... to be meeting Dottie soon for our usual cuppa coffee soon.... we need to catch up big time...

I am currently reading...

All Things Bright and Beautiful, by James Herriot
Begin With Christ, Bible Study
Destroying Spiritual Strongholds, by our Bible Study teacher, Jim Tarter

I am hoping..to renew my mind, spirit, and body in a recommitment to healthful living this week

On my mind...I am really going to take time to listen to the Lord this week.... not only speak to him, and read His word but allow the Holy spirit to speak to me so I can know His will for my life.

Noticing that...
the trees are bursting out and the red buds will be blooming earlier than usual this year... I love red buds just about best of all the spring colors.

Pondering these words...

"The air is like a butterfly
With frail blue wings.
The happy earth looks at the sky
And sings."

- Joyce Kilmer, Spring

"Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
The rain plays a little sellp-song on our roof at night--
And I love the rain."
- Langston Hughes, 1902-1967, April Rain Song

From the kitchen..breakfast will be served for dinner tonight

Around the house.... the never ending flow of laundry... what else? Also, straightening up and putting away all the gear from our trip....we were too tired last night to put things away!!

One of my favorite things...
genealogy... I was thrilled to be able to purchase the Blair coat of arms at the Scotland House.

From my picture journal...

Photobucket
I took this photo toward the colonial Capitol at Williamsburg.... I love the sign of Edinburgh Castle... have no idea what kind of establishment that was for we were actually walking along there before the businesses opened.. on our way to the Raleigh Tavern bakery to purchase ginger cakes...
This week you can visit Peggy for more SWD on Tuesday!

Thankful Thursday

On this first spring Thursday of 2010 I am so thankful for the Lord's provisions. He is so faithful, merciful, and good. I am in awe of His grandeur manifest in His creation... the beauty of His masterpiece takes my breath away....
Photobucket
(Photo taken last spring)
His kindness is everlasting... yet, he is such a patient gentleman. he never forces His will on me, but waits ever so patiently for me to choose to come along side of Him... yet He is continually working out the circumstances in my life to prepare the way for me to be able to join Him in His kingdom work... then it is only after I have joined Him that I can clearly see just how he was at work all along bringing everything all together.... awesome.... I am saddened by all the many missed opportunities .... the missed blessings He had for me if only I had chosen to sacrifice my will for His....Oh, Lord, strengthen my resolve to make my life a living sacrifice for you... give me a servant's heart and give me eyes to see what you have for me to accomplish to advance your kingdom and love with your heart!

Amanda did a loving and generous act yesterday. She has had long hair for as long as anyone can remember.. beautiful ,long, thick, luxurious sable colored hair... which was so delightful through her stages of growing as her daddy's sweet PUD, or as third baseman on the team,
Photobucket

Photobucket

as she graduated for High school and throughout the years of dating her would be sweetheart,Joshua!

Photobucket

Photobucket

It balled up well on top of her head in humid weather,
Photobucket
when she revisited her lovely homeland, Korea...
It pinned up gorgeously when she wed..
Photobucket
But now that she is a research scientist, a wife, and homemaker, her long hair has become relegated to the past... for the time being anyway... for yesterday she drew it back into a ponytail and had 11 inches cut off to donate to Locks of Love. In comparison, I found this picture of her in first grade...

Photobucket
and now her hair is even shorter than that!!...

Photobucket

I cant wait to see it in person!!! I think it is adorable!! And I am so very proud of her!!!!!

FOR TODAY... from Carolyn's Daybook

Outside my window... We awakened to pouring rain and furious wind... but things have tempered... the rain has ceased...at least for the time being...and the sky looks furious, but the wind has stilled....

I am thinking...what a fun week we have ahead of us.... hope i can rid myself of this sinus headache!!

I am thankful for...so many blessings of life.... I really enjoy this time of my life.... taking one day at a time...

I am wearing...still in my jammies.... no rush to go anywhere today.

I am remembering..all thing things I need to accomplish in the next few days before our little trip!

I am going... to be going to the symphony this week... one of my favorite pastimes...
This month's programme includes:
Mozart - Requiem
Bergman - Dance of the Americas
Holst - St. Paul's Suite

I am currently reading...

I am hoping..to get a lot of walking in on our trip.... that is going to be fun walking.... seeing new and exciting things.... very excited about it!!
.

On my mind...I am really going to take time to listen to the Lord this week.... not only speak to him, and read His word but allow the Holy spirit to speak to me so I can know His will for my life.

Noticing that...
the daffodils are radiant this year. They just seem so happy to have burst forth in newness of life!!

Pondering these words...

"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."
- William Wordsworth, Daffodils

From the kitchen..just using up bits and pieces of things to get rid of things in the fridge!

Around the house.... the never ending flow of laundry... what else?

One of my favorite things...
reading!
Can't ever get enough of things to read!!!

From my picture journal...

Through the bedroom window on a dreary Monday morn... yet, the daffodils delight in showing off their glory!

Spring has Sprung!

Photobucket

What a glorious morning today.. A perfect day to don the shades, scroll back the sunroof and take a leisurely drive... The sun was just low enough on the horizon to keep from shining right down and blinding me... yet it was so pleasant , yet not too warm. This is indeed what we've been waiting for through those long snowy, bitter wintry days!

Continuing my excitement over bed and breakfasts....because soon we will be celebrating our 38th anniversary at Berkley Manor in Williamsburg!
Photobucket
Known for its colonial charm right in the heart of Williamsburg!
We have booked the Governor Berkley room.
Photobucket
I was taken with its classic simplicity! Very sublime... yet yielding grand comfort...
We always look forward to the morning dining experiences in B&B's... meeting the other guests is always an unexpected pleasure... we always leave that to the Lord to work out and he never disappoints... we have met some of the most fascinating people from all over the world actually.
This time we will be dining here...

I can't help but notice the exquisite red transferware... a favorite!!! And this establishment is within easy walking of the Colonial /shopping district... now what ever more could anyone ask??

Mosaic Monday

Visit Mary at the Little Red House for more Mosaic Monday!!

This past weekend the weather was so beautiful...just right for a little yard work... a walk around the yard showed me that the daffodils were eagely straining to bloom and the peony tree was budding... the crocuses heralded the grandeur of spring to come!
Photobucket
The raised bed by the garage really needed to be cleared off and the soil reconditioned for new plantings. Shopping for new bedding plants such as pansies and flowering bulbs like daffodils completed my weekend endeavors...

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... a new day is dawning first Monday following daylight savings time and I had to get up early for school today.... (Yawn) it s going to be a little difficult this morning!!!

I am thinking...hope this will be a good day with the second graders.. this has been a very unusual year... This is only my second day to sub all year..

I am thankful for...for my church family! we have such a good time in fllowship... Last night following church all of us who could, about 10 of us went out for ice cream and it was such fun!

Destroying Spiritual Strongholds, by our Bible Study teacher, Jim Tarter

I am hoping..to be able to get out and do some walking this week... the temps are really moderating and the days do promise to be lovely....

On my mind...I am really going to take time to listen to the Lord this week.... not only speak to him, and read His word but allow the Holy spirit to speak to me so I can know His will for my life.

Noticing that...
the spring flowers are almost ready to burst into bloom! The daffodils are going to be so beautiful!

Pondering these words...
"Springtime is the land awakening.
The March winds are the morning yawn."
- Lewis Grizzard, Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I Love You

From the kitchen..yesterday I prepared a lovely beef roast to enjoy tonight...we'll probably be eating on it for a dew days....

Around the house.things are in good shape... as I find time I will decorate the sunroom now that the temps are warmer and we actually will be going out there more... I so enjoy decorating seasonally. There are actually some wintery, snowman decorations still out there which really need to be put away.... no more snow... no more snow... please!!

One of my favorite things...

is flower arranging... I love to take old arrangement apart and make them over..

From my picture journal...
Photobucket
This is one of my most recent concoctions.... I love this wall container I bought a couple of years ago at Michael's... loving all things medieval, it reminds me of a quiver... and it is so large on the wall, it need does create quite the dramatic arrangements.... going along with the medieval influences in the room, I just wanted it to look like a bunch of weeds growing up along a wall.... pussy willow, greenery, and grasses... I loved the red leaf stems very spring-like yet I think rather unusual.

Pink Saturday

Photobucket

Happy Pink Saturday!!

This week I am sharing a very precious find I picked up right before the holidays in an antique shop in the next county.... My previous coworker and partner teaching third grade actually works a stall there and I was there to see her, when all of a sudden I looked up and there it was!
Photobucket
I had been seeking this for years.. since 1988 at least. My grandmother had this print hanging over her bed and I always loved it... Of all the things she had, this was the one thing that made me think of her the most.... and I hoped my mom would inherit it in her portion of worldly goods.... there were 6 sisters dividing the household items, but alas, it got away and I never saw it again.. so I have scanned every shop since then, hoping against hope, to find a copy.. then suddenly without really trying... there it was...a closeup....
Photobucket
reveals its quaint PINK charms.
PS Imagine my glee when as I watched You've Got Mail, Meg Ryan had this same print hanging in her New York apartment. You might look for it next time you watch that film!!!!

Random Dozen

So, are you ready to play Plinko?

Definition of plink: "Plinking refers to informal target shooting done at non-traditional targets such as tin cans, glass bottles, and balloons filled with water." Plinko is also a carnival game we play at Oneighty, but pot-luck shots fits this meme better, I think.

So here are your random plinko questions lined up in a row just like tin cans:

1. How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet? That would be my wooden shoes that I bought when we visited the Netherlands in 1973.. Still holding up very well... if they are the most uncomfortable shoes you could imagine!

2. Did you buy Girl Scout cookies this year? If so, what variety? Not yet,,, havent seen any for sale anywhere.... but it would be chocolate mint!!

3. Do you know how to ballroom dance? If not, would you like to? No,, I dont think I really have the energy to do that well.. love to watch it though!!

4. Were you a responsible child/teenager?Definitely... back in the day,, there was no other way was there?

5. How many of this year's Oscar-nominated movies did you see?The Blind Side... loved it!!

6. If you're going to have a medical procedure done, such as having blood drawn, is it easier for you to watch someone else having the procedure done or have it done yourself? Are you kidding?

7. What is your favorite day of the week and why? I do love Saturday.. there is always the hope that something unexpected will happen on a Saturday!

8. Do you miss anyone right now? This lovely girl and her wonderful husband!!
Photobucket

9. Do hospitals make you queasy? No I am very thankful to have the benefit of fine hospitals and today's medical advancements.

10. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card. Not that you ever would, you responsible person, you. Well, nothing is worth maxing out my credit card and going in debt for.. but I do enjoy shopping online at Old Durham Road.

11. Are you true to the brand names of products/items? Not at all... I look for value wherever it might come from.

12. Which is more difficult: looking into someone’s eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someone’s eyes when he/she is telling you how he/she feels?Looking into their eyes when I am telling how I feel....

Tea Talk

1. I am enjoying roobios this morning as I am finishing Rebecca Shaw's wonderful book, Country Wives! What a delightful series... I can hardly wait to start the last in the series... Country Lovers. This series is set in modern day Yorkshire, yet in such a quaint locale it could be anytime during the past several years... life there is slow paced and genteel.. The action revolves around a country veterinarian practice.... the lives of the staffers and the locals who are indebted to their services. If you loved James Herriot's books you'd love these as well.
Photobucket

2. I'm feeling....true contentment this morning... life is good!
3. On my mind....this is a grand day for working out of doors... the flower beds are calling out to me this morning! Perhaps I'll even purchase some pansies to set out.... Now that would be lovely!
4.

Friends, books, a garden, and perhaps his pen,
Delightful industry enjoy'd at home,
An Nature, in her cultivated trim
Dress'ed to his taste, inviting him abroad -
Can he want occupation who has these?
- William Cowper, The Task, 1780

Now you will wish to join Ruth for more Tea Talk !

All Source of Truth

The one and only source of all truth is clearly stated in God's Word...Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well.John 14:5-7

When a person finally decides that they are nothing apart from their Holy God and they a re ready to accept the one and only way to find God.. then truth will become the shining light that will lead them to Father.. That light is the love and redeeming act of Jesus' death on the cross.

Because we are all born into sin we are therefore all separated from God... oh, but His love is so unfathomable.. He sent his only Son as payment for our sin... the perfect sacrifice.. the Lamb of God. and by His blood shed for us we can be healed... spiritually, physically, emotionally...Jesus is the bridge that connects us to the Father.... Jesus is standing at the door of hearts just waiting patiently for us to choose to allow Him in... We are coming up on that most special time of the year.... the world calls Easter... This Holy time of year actually begins with what the Jews have always celebrated as the Passover, when God delivered his people from the bondage in Egypt...

Yet, even Christians should be looking inward at their spiritual life.... measuring how they have grown in their understanding and Christlikeness... and preparing to celebrate just how individually we have been delivered from the bondage of sin in our lives. This is a very holy time of year... the coming of spring... a time of new beginnings, newness of life, and fresh starts... a time to turn over a new leaf... and show God just how happy we are for His provision, His many blessings, and make new commitments in serving him and showing His love to a dying world... I am so blessed to have the opportunity to share the love of God to online folks who have revealed to me an openness to listen and I pray they will receive God's perfect gift of Life, truth, and a new way of living that will forever more transform them into a life characterized by the glory of God living in them... Praise God... He is good all the time!!!!

I did find another great site regarding truth!
I was particularly taken with his testimony I will share here."I became a follower and servant of the Lord in 2005. Since then, I've been continually studying the Bible, sharing the gospel, and proclaiming the word of God. I have often suffered from criticism, ridicule, and persecution. I joined the United States Marine Corps in 2006, and have been deployed twice—first I was deployed to Iraq for 7 months under Operation Iraqi Freedom, and on my second deployment we traveled all over the world. To find out more visit his site by clicking here!

But Where Can I find truth?

Many there are who say," But All I see are charlatans.... hypocrits who say one thing and do another... Isnt it sad that truth can not be readily found in our communities today? It is difficult to find a good Bible Based church today... corruption is rampant even in the church.. The enemy knows his time is short and is he ever busy! But he is a defeated foe... there is truth to be found.... and it begins with having the Holy spirit living within you that you might then be able to discern false teaching from the Truth. If one is so turned off by churches that they cant even hear the truth... which by the way you have to seek it out for yourself in our world today.... one very trusted source to hear the truth I found is through this link....
http://www.billygraham.org/SH_StepsToPeace.asp

This 4 step path to finding peace with God spells out God's plan in an easy to understand and powerfully effective manner.

Oh How We All need the Lord

I posted the following a few weeks ago, but feel I need to update it a little and post it again and again in the hopes that it reaches those who really need to develop a saving relationship with Jesus... even if it touches one heart it will have been a marvelous thing! I am so in hopes that some of my self professed "unsaved" friends I've met on line will visit and read this post in particular....
<span class=Photobucket" border="0">

As I was watching the evening news this evening I was really taken by the sheer magnitude of the effect nature is having throughout the world...blizzards, record cold, unprecedented rain in Arizona, record snow, lack of snow in places where snow is usually prevalent.... even earthquakes in Chicago.. Since this was originally written the Chilean quake has occurred which performed in nature something which hasnt happened since recorded time.... this quake was so powerful it actually knocked our earth off its axis somewhat and actually shortened the length of our day by some odd minutes. Now the evening commentators will never bring this up... but to my way of thinking it is not just Mother Nature who is acting out here.
El Shaddai ( God Almighty) Creator of the earth is definitely getting our attention! Most Bible scholars will attest that we have entered into what the Bible calls the Last Days... No one knows the exact day or hour that Jesus Christ will appear in the clouds and a trump will sound and the dead will rise first, then His church (Bride) will be changed in a twinkling, be caught up with Him in the air and leave this world behind.. Glory to God! Maranatha! (Come Lord, Jesus!) The Bible tells us He will come as a thief in the night. No one knows when but the Bible has left us with many clues as to His appearing.. There will be signs in the nature. Believers are told to be vigilant....watching....
ready with our oil lamps filled with oil and our wicks trimmed. Oh, man, you do not want to be caught unaware... You dont want to be left behind! For the Bible says there are many who have gone to church, done all the right things, even performed miracles for his name sake, yet on that day, the Lord will say " I never knew you!" and they will be left behind because they had not oil in their lamp.
I think about this parable of the ten virgins a lot. It appears that that oil is very important to the Lord... it constitutes the relationship one develops with the Savior... through prayer, Bible study, time spent in the secret place praying, listening to His small still voice, and confessing continually... abiding in His Word and allowing His Word to abide in us!. Apparently there are many in our churches today who think they are part of the family of God, yet if they are not completely yielded to the Master, who do not willingly and lovingly seek to spend time in His Presence "working out their salvation with fear and trembling" then they could very well be in for a huge awakening.... but by then it will be too late. For the Bible also says to those who heard the gospel and failed to heed the word, after the day of His coming to catch up his children, to those others he will give a delusional mind so that their hearts will be hardened. There are many places in the scriptures where it says to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.. heed these words.. I tell you, the days are getting short. Evil is everywhere dear ones, we see it in our government, in our localities, in the news, and it is hard to believe but the Bible says this is not even as bad as it will get.... Listen to the news and hear how schools are closing,, teachers are being let go... unemployment is rampant... but it will get worse... Matthew 24 says'''"21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened." if those days were not cut short.... we now know how the days will be shortened... as they have already started through this violent shaking... but I believe that the shaking has only just begun. Now is not the time to delay.... wake up... check these things out for yourself....
Lastly....The Bible is very clear about this. The end will come during the generation when Israel becomes a nation which was in 1947 and a generation is about 70 years. I am not a doomsday sayer.... but I am a vigilant Christian who has nothing to fear.. for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him against that day! I am burdened however for those who are lost... And dear ones... it is not just enough to say I believe there is a God... I believe there was a Jesus... for even the devils believe... Seek Truth... seek the Way... seek the Life! His name is Jesus and He wants a relationship with you!!!!
Watch the signs, read and study God's Word and be alert! Maranatha! Come Lord, Jesus! If you would like to discuss this with me privately please comment and we can develop a dialogue.. God bless you!!

Realm, and Scotland magazines.

On my TV:
The first season of All Creatures Great and small

Ideas for creating greeting cards

Looking forward to:
Exercise class tomorrow... been missing the past couple of weeks

Homemaking Tip for this week:
Align Center

Reuse plastic honey bear bottles for olive oil. Store (uncapped) in a cabinet near your stove, so you can reach for it and squeeze oil in a pan with just one hand. Saves time!

Favorite Blog Post of the week (mine or other):

offers wonderful insight into the Christian's relationship with Christ

Favorite photo from last week:
especially for my daughter, Amanda to see~
