A Thousand Gifts

Photobucket

15. The compassionate caring staff at the Gastrointestinal Center this morning

16. The wonderfully fun time Amanda and I shared today at my favorite consigment show... sharing this time together meant more to me than she'll never know.

17. Stopping by Dairy Queen and getting my favorite double dipped cone as a small birthday celebration with Amanda following our shopping adventure

18. Sitting in the sunroom and basking in the golden glow of the setting sun

19. Seeing my husband return home from his impromptu golf excursion with our SIL with a huge smile on his face and a gleam in his eye.

20. Sitting here at the computer without a single care or sensation finally following my procedure this morning. It is wonderful to realize the discomfort from the trapped air they pump into you has finally dissipated and you are free of all sensation! Marvelous!

21. The wonderful restful night'ssleep I had last night- so that I was ready and able to enjoy Amanda's visit today folowing my procedure!

For these and all the blessing you bestow, Dear Father, I thank you and praise your Holy Name!

Thankful Thursday

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name”
~ Psalm 100:4 (NIV)

Very simply, I am so thankful for answered prayers. God is faithful. He is in control and we can put our trust and our lives in HIS hands!

I've Been Tagged!

I've been tagged!

Lovie over at Cotton Candy tagged me to blog about 5 things I love the most.

1. Today I am loving peace of mind! Mainly because I have my colonoscopy behind me!!! HAllelujah! When my doctor asked me if I'd ever had one I really thought that I had, but we could find nothing in my record to substantiate that, and I've been dreading it since early March when the topic first came up. Not so much the test, but the outcome had been playing on my mind because I had been experiencing some chronic trouble over some time. But YAYAYA!! Great report and now I have a huge cloud lifted off of me.

Photobucket
2. I love to celebrate life! Jesus says, "I have come that you may have life, and have life more abundantly". John 10:10b It is important for us to know that Jesus cares for us as a group but even more He cares for you, as an individual. And that is why we are to "celebrate life". To celebrate life is simple, take the time that you have and appreciate every moment. Therefore, as I am retired I just love the simple pleasures that God sends my way. I love bluebirding and journalling about the nature around me. I love music and I just have it playing all the time. I love time spent with friends and family. I love it when my husband walks in the door everyday and we can spend our evenings together! I can hardly wait for him to retire!

Photobucket

3. I love a spiritual retreat- getting away from the bustle of the everyday to a quiet, beautiful serene spot and just spend quality time with the Lord. When we go away to the lake for a weekend, and we spend the whole day just praising, praying, fasting, communing, and listening to God speak to our hearts. We try to do this at least once a year.

Photobucket

4.I love collecting tea cups. One thing that really bums me is that my favorite china shop is no more, at least in any of the places it used to be. I used to visit Royal Doulton shops just about everywhere we ever vacationed. Now, I cant find a shop anywhere! But I have found some lovely old pieces at consignment shops along the way!

Photobucket

5. I love chinese food! If we're going out to eat, I really get excited when we are heading out to Szechuan. Especially if the bar is serving. I love an assortment! Stir fried green beans, General's Chicken, gouzas, beef and broccoli, chocho chicken, chicken corn soup and with crunchies! Yummy!

So now I'd like to tag 5 folks whom I would like to know about !

stained glass -My Upper Room

Photobucket designed by Toscano Designs.
I love this beautiful stained glass."Based on a 1920s English Medieval Revival design, a heroic crusader’s shield is flanked by the traditional royal roses that signify noble lineage" I am so inspried by the Crusaders who performed amazing spiritual warfare in the physical as well as the spiritual realm. This design calls me to prayerful intercession. I have requested it for my next major gift from my husband. Until then, I would like to use it to inspire in my cyber upper room.
I am lifting the following mjor prayer requests before my Lord and Saviour!
For it is by His mercy, grace, and blood shed on the cross thwt we have free access to heaven.
1)Those who have cancer, illnesses, weaknesses, and spiritual sickness there are too many to mention, but I pray that the spirit of affliction will be cast out, bound and cast as far as the east is from the west, that by Christ's stripes the blood will wash away all remnant of residual infirmity that does not originate in heaven, that Christ will loose within each beleiver who is ill a recreation at the cellular level that will manifest healing and renewal of flesh, and a healing spirit that reaches into the deepest marrow and spreads through each body that whatever the enemey meant for evil, God can turn to good. I pray that each ill beleiver be strengthern in their resole to battle against this mighty foe, and that their faith will be made strong. I pray that beleivers everywhere will keep their focus above with high expecttions of waht can and wants to do to bring forth healing and restoration.
2) Those who have suffered traumas of all sorts, burns, accidents, falls, broken bodies of all kinds, my self included, I pray for the Lord to be merciful in His restoration. I am praying expectantly that the Lord God will speak from heaven a restorative Word that will knit together, realign, restore new cells, new skin, new bone, new joints, new blood, whatever it is that needs to be replaced. Father, you alone are our refuge in times of trouble, Who can we turn to but Thee, and when we are lame, or in such a weakened state, we have no recourse whatsoever but to beseech You to hear our plight. Whatever it may be that we must learn about You and your kingdom give us eyes to see, speak words of confirmation to us that what ever you would have us know or do we will be obedient to do. I thank you Father for what you have done, You are doing and will do in the process of bringing forth our restoration. We give you all the Glory. In Jesus name, Amen

A Thousand Gifts

Photobucket
The following I have copied from the beautiful site, Counting Your Blessings!
"I am accepting a challenge - a 1000 part challenge - and passing that challenge along to you. This is a passage that I read last night from a deeply moving blog, Holy Experience...
"A List of a Thousand Things, beginning with #1. I am daily jotting down items on my Thousand Gifts List, working, one-by-one, up to a thousand gifts. Not of gifts I want. But of gifts I have. As the moments slip down the hour glass of time, I am scratching down the gifts---just as they happen, as they arrive, as they are unwrapped---that He has given that make my life grace, the daily graces that He gives in an infinite number of ways, that stir me. "...windmills lazying in twilight's last breeze.... soft wool sweaters with turtle neck collars.... the faint smell of cattle and straw...." I am seeing things I have never seen before, atuned and aware of this constant, endless stream of gifts from His hand. I am one waking from slumber....from the stupor of indifference and ignorance. I have sight, fresh and keen---the world is new and full of His gifts. Too often I miss Him, oblivious, blind. I don't see all the good things that He is giving me, gracing me with, brushing my life with. True, He is everywhere, always. But maybe, before The Gift List, I thought of Him as further off, not so close. When I started to see all the things that I love bestowed upon me, I started to see Him as near, present, everywhere, showering me with good things. Seeing the things I love all around me gives me eyes to see that I am loved, that He loves me."
Not each and every one of them is necessarily spiritual. These are just two of her "gifts" mentioned in her blog:860. Leaning into the small of his back as we ride fields, wind in our hair;868. Cherries ripening out in the orchard
Although, as you go, you'll find that each and every one, no matter what they are, really and truly are spiritual. (James 1:17 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.)
If you are up for the challenge... List 6 things each day and by Christmas you will have a list of 1000 blessings. Imagine Christmas Eve, around the fire, with the ones you love most dearly, and sharing with them something you were thankful for today, July 8th! No rules - just note each day the things you have or experience that you are thankful for. Let's together see how this changes our lives..."
Of course I am 21 days behind so some days I realize I must list 7 which is the perfect number!

I just found every word copied above to be too marvelous not to share. I believe than anyone who visits the above sites will become so enamored with the blessings of our Lord and Savior that they ,too, will want to join the challenge!
So I begin my list:
1. I am extremely blessed by my dearest and beloved husband who demonstrates the love of God to me every day
2. Our precious daughter, Amanda, who celebrated her 23rd birthday yesterday , and her wonderful husband Joshua
3. God's messages through His powerful Word, the Bible
4. The wonders of a celtic melody that rouses my blood and calls to my spirit
5. The cooling air conditioner on such a hot humid day as today
6. The shadows of the drifting clouds as they dance across the lawn
7. Time to spend doing the things I love now that I am retired
Well, I am excited!Isn't it fun to learn new things. I just never could figure out how to change the color in my posts, because I never used the compose tab.I was always just clicking on new post at the top of the screen and never had the options. Silly me!Thanks to Kara, I now have options galore!
I can evencenter my work now!
  1. and add bullet points!

I'm loving this!! I can even change the font! ok! Enough is enough! Now you all know just how pathetic my skills really are! DUH!I'm learning!!

Tempt My Tummy Tuesday

Photobucket

Today I am joining Lisa and Lana as they host Tempt My Tummy Tuesday. Each week we share recipes, kitchen and cooking tips, or anything food related. I found this tummy tempting recipe last night here while seeking fun ideas for my dear daughter’s birthday party I’m throwing this weekend. I just went wild over these delectable tidbits! However, I’m beginning a prep for a colonoscopy soon, so won’t be able to cook them up until party time!
Note: This recipe begs the question! Must one use a silpat or would wax paper work? Any answers out there?

Instead of cake, Amanda requested something fruity. I am thinking of a
Strawberry Shortcake Trifle

1 pt.fresh strawberries. I'll supplement with a package of frozen berries in syrup
2 T sugar or splenda
2 pkgs. suager free instant vanilla pudding
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
2 c. 1/2 inch square pound cake cut in cubes
sugar free whipped topping

Add sugar/splenda to strawberries and mix. Mix pudding as directed. Add cream cheese and blend with mixer. Place half of cake squares in bottom of large glass bowl. Pour half of strawberries over cake. Cover with pudding mixture. Repeat layers. Top with whipped topping.Cover and chill overnight.

My Current Header Picture

I just took this photo from the live cam located at Eilean Donan Castle near the Isle of Skye. It is 2:50 in the afternoon here, but is 7:50 pm there. I just think that is the coolest thing! I love how the sun is reflecting off of the thousand year old castle battlements. This place just takes my breath away!
******It is now 6pm here and I just took this photo and it is 11pm there, yet still daylight.Photobucket
This one seems darker because of the bright lights but when you look at it from far off,Photobucket, isn't that cool? I definitely have Eilean Donan on my bucketlist!

For Today

Outside my Window...the 7am traffic is picking up. The fading rumble of the morning UPS plane still echos through the air.

I am thinking... that I need to do my Beth Moore homework just as soon as I finish this post!

I am thankful for.... my dear, sweet husband who just brought me my cup of coffee before he heads off to work this morning.

From the kitchen...this morning I will be having oatmeal and fruit. My husband, Lynn will be coming home early today so we can take the Pathfinder for its inspection, so I'm thinking tonight we will have breakfast for dinner.

I am creating...Well, it isnt something that I can look at and say, gee, how wonderful, look what I created, but I am pleased that when my aunt called me to ask if I would work up some geneaological and historical notes on a particular ancestor for her to take to her DAR meeting in August, I was able to get what I have been working on together. I think the information is compelling and interesting. I will be mailing it off to her this morning.

I am going... shopping this week for a birthday present for our daughter, Amanda. I already gave her part of her present, a beautiful bracelet. But I asked her yesterday what else she would like and she suggested a nice flower display for their new front porch and a watering can. This sounds really fun to get together.

I am wearing... I'm still in my p.j.'s.

I am reading ... I will be spending time this week on Beth Moore's The Patrirachs. This is the last week.

I am hoping...The weather man is wrong. I have enjoyed the cooler, less humid days, but this week is heating up again, they say.
BAH!

I am hearing... birdsong outside the window. I believe it is a cardinal family that lives in the hedge row between our properties.

Around the house... I will be having the family in this coming weekend for Amanda's birthday celebration on Saturday. Her birthday is actually today. She is 23. But things have been topsy turvy the past week or so. I was thinking that she was having the family up to their new townhome to show off the place but she says she jsut isnt ready to do that anytime soon, so wanted me to have it here....So we're putting it off til the weekend.

One of my favorite things... is plannng a social gathering. I suppose that is an inherit trait, because my remember my grandmother and my mom even now at 85 always loves to be planning something. I am hoping to make Amanda's dinner party special.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week... the one thing that is coming up this week is my colonoscopy on Thursday. I dont dread that as much as the prep on Wednesday. I'll just be really glad to have it all behind me. No pun intended.

A Picture I thought I'd share today...
Photobucket This is Amanda when she was 2 and she loved her little Korean dress. She was always such a sweetheart.
PhotobucketWhen she graduated from high schoolwith honors we were thrilled but we were also in awe how quickly she had grown up and was about to leave home for college.
Photobucket And now with her husband, we are just so thrilled to see how gloriously happy she is! Happy Birthday, Amanda!

Then Sings My Soul, Saturday

In 1970, I was a junior in college facing the most stressful time of my life thus far. I had to take a swimming class, and pass it in order to graduate. The problem: I was horrified of water over my head. A childhood prank played on me years before had created a panic response anytime I went into water deeper than 4 feet. Now I was facing a situation where I was expected to dive into 20 feet of water, float on my back for 5 minutes, then roll over and swim to the circumference of the olympic sized pool...or not graduate. I had dreaded this moment since I had enrolled at Radford College. How on earth was I to face this obstacle? I felt that I had a huge mountain before me!

But I did have simple faith....exactly what I needed. I was encouraged in that simple faith by a simple chorus that was played on a daily afternoon religious program-it replayed itself over and over in my mind. For me at that stage of my spiritual maturity it was a soothing balm to my agitated physche. Like a mantra the tune and the words reverberated in my consciousness, building up a simple faith that with Jesus, all things are possible- even learning enough swimming skill to pass that exam.I sang it on the way to class, I sang it in the locker room, I sang it as I stepped into the water, I hummed it the whole time I was jumping in and rising up to float on my back. I sang it as the minutes ticked away as I concentrated on keeping my lungs full of air for bouyancy. I hummed it the whole time I was swimming the length of the pool and as I finally was allowed to flip over on my back and do the back stroke back to the deep end, I was gleefully humming that chorus in victory!
Something good is going to happen to you,
happen to you,
This very day,
Something good is going to happen to you,
Jesus of Nazareth is passing your way.

Now I wouldnt probably choose this song to lead the saints into battle against a mighty foe, for the basic theology is flawed to say the least. Jesus, in His Word, does not promise us an easy, carefree life. In fact, he allows us to suffer trials and tests just I had to face, to see if we rely on Him in the midst of pain, suffering, and fear. But for me, a fledgling believer, I didn't need a deep theology, but a basic truth that with Jesus, I can do all things! It just took a simple faith!

Pink Saturday

Photobucket
Beverly is hosting Pink Saturday. What fun it is to visit all the sites Beverly has posted who are joining in to liven up the weekend with pink!

My grandmother always had the most lovely floral picture hanging above her bed, both on the farm and when they moved over off the Peaks Mountain Road. I've thought about it much over the years since her passing and each time I went in a consignment or antique shop I scanned the walls for it. I know I saw it once on 'You've Got Mail, for it hangs in Meg Ryan's apartment. I suppose I could go watch that movie again to be sure, but ...this week I was strolling through my favorite consignment store, and there was this amazing picture. Now if it isnt the real McCoy, it at least satisfies my longing for once I got it home I realize just how nicely it goes with my colors in my bedroom, and I know I'd never have bought it if it hadnt have struck my eye as looking "like" grandma's! Photobucket
I simply love it!(Oops! I just watched You've Got Mail< and that wasnt the movie! It must be Sleepless! I'll have to get it back from Amanda!)

Bluebird Activity

My Peterson house stands sentinel in the backyard, in an appropriate spot, far from an overhanging limb, protected from predators like snakes, and cats.Enticingly, I have placed a bird feeder with favored seeds and such atop the house, and a bluebird's favorite suet hanging from belong, and alas, NADA! ZILCH! Nary a bird has been seen except one house wren that I am praying doesn't get too interested! I have nothing against them per se, it's just that I'm not after house wrens.
Wanted: A nice bluebird couple, to let,...free! Food and water provided! Occupancy available...immediately!
Photobucket Looks kind of sad doesn't it?

Blog Trouble Fixed

I have been having blog trouble all day but it is finally working smoothly! Yayay!

My Husband Rocks, Friday

Katy Lin of The Great Adventure is hosting My Husband Rocks Friday.
It is so great to have a husband who is genuinely interested in how I spend my day. Now that I have been retired for 5 years, my life is finally beginning to become more faceted with new endeavors, established routines and associations. Photobucket
My husband supports me in whatever I choose to do, how I spend my time, and he demonstrates concentrated interest in the myriad things that I am pursuing. I love that about him. Praise the Lord for such a wonderful partner, friend, and husband!

Show and Tell Friday

Show and Tell

Welcome to “Wings of Eagles” as I join in with Kelli's Show and Tell Friday.

Where does the week go! This summer is flying by! Of course, we have spent this week thinking mainly of our dear daughter and Son-in-law and their move. But then...
last night we returned from seeing them for dinner, and we checked out our small tomato patch. Oh, my! Now let me say, it is very exciting for us, because heretofore, we had too much shade to plant a real garden or even plow up a space to plant anything, but this year we decided to plant some tomatoes there by the garage. And Ta-dah!!
Photobucket

Thankful Thursday

We have so much for which to be thankful today! I was just speaking to my mom on the phone. She is 85 and dad is 89 yet to hear them they are so full of life, joy, good humor and expectation. Granted, my mother has to walk with a walker and dad is not too steady on his feet, but in their spirits they are young at heart and full of fun. I praise the Lord for them every day!!

The Simple Woman Daybook

Photobucket
Many thanks to The Simple Woman for giving us this opportunity to share in this journal. For more daybooks or to join in visit Peggy.

For Today

Outside my Window...My neighbor is mowing his lawn, certainly trying to get it done before the extreme heat of today. The weather reports it will be 95.

I am thinking...about my dear daughter and sil's move this week from their old apartment near campus to a beautiful new townhome nearby. I am going up with Josh's mom today to help do some packing.

I am thankful for....God really provided this beautiful home for the kids after some time whereby he was teaching them to trust and rely on Him. He taught them patience as He had them wait until he was ready to put on His God Show, which is more wonderful than anything we can ever want or imagine.

From the kitchen...I am also thankful I made a huge pot of spaghetti sauce over the weekend. Amanda's mil, Jan, and I are going up to help Amanda and Joshua prepare for the move tomorrow. So my sweet husband can come home tonight and fix a great dinner and have it ready when I get home!

I am creating...no plans for creating this week!

I am going...to be driving up to Blacksburg several times this week as we help the kids move in to their wonderful townhome.

I am wearing... white slacks, red and white tee and barefooted right now!

I am reading...Simply Magic, by Mary Balogh. I'm enjoying it!

I am hoping...it doesnt rain tomorrow until we get all the furniture moved.

I am hearing... only the air conditioner whirring away!

Around the house...we are so focused on Amanda's move we have things on hold around here.

One of my favorite things...is my camera. I find I am taking it everywhere I go. Amanda was really worried today when I was taking pictures of her new place. "But Mom, wait until I fix it all up. Don't you dare blog this."

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week... doing what we can to help the kids.

Bluebird Monitoring

I have been busily keeping the birdbaths and feeders going this week. I hung a bluebird suet feeder from the Peterson house. I have seen much more activity around the yard today. There was a lot of interest in the bird bath just a few minutes ago. I saw a male and female cardinal, a huge dominant male robin, a couple of wrens, and drumroll, please, a male and female bluebird there all within a matter of five minutes. Everything was wonderful until a gaggle of black birds scared everyone away. What a thrill, though. I wish these were bettr pictures but each one shows a male on one side and a female on the other side of the statue bird in the center of the bath. This next photo was done by my friend, Dottie who took the picture at her Peterson house on the FR trail. This is what I am aiming for. This is my vision!!Photobucket

My New Look

I am so excited to find this site tht offers free backgrounds,http://www.thecutestblogontheblock.com/. When I saw this one, which is my tartan, Lindsay, I went ballistically excited! So I had to use my favorite photo op site in Scotland, Eilean Donan, which was actually used as a setting for the movie, Made of Honor this spring. http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/madeofhonor/index.html

Dad is 89

We were able to enjoy a very special occasion last evening. I just love it when Mom and Dad come over to our home, for as the sands of time continue to filter through the hourglass, their abilities to come diminish. But last night, everyone was shining bright and doing very well. Dad looked quite dapper in his birthday party clothes!Photobucket. Lynn grilled the most amazing rib eyes and strip steaks for us and the corn was delicious, too. We used to enjoy this same meal so much in the bygone days of our familylife together. Dad loved to grill out and Mom's corn from the garden was everyone's favorite. Last night the corn was a reasonable facsimile.
I thought for a minute dad was going to eat the whole thing!
Photobucket He was pleased to receive a hefty gift card for the local grocer.Photobucket I mean it is difficult go come up with a good gift for a man who has EVErything! Of course, Amanda always know exactly what to give. A beautifully framed montage of pictures taken of her with her Pop Pop all these years. Wonderful!PhotobucketPhotobucket

Pink Saturday

Photobucket
Beverly is hosting Pink Saturday. What fun it is to visit all the sites Beverly has posted who are joining in to liven up the weekend with pink!

Today I want to honor my wonderful friends, Vyto and Veronica whom we have known for nearly fifty years. She was born in Worms, Germany and she met Vyto there when he was in the service. They married and moved to the states in 1960 where she worked with my mother and they quickly became our good friends. I was 10, and she was probably 25 or less and we really enjoyed getting to know them so much. But around 10 years later they moved back to Germany to care for Veronica's mother.
Then in 1973, I was living right outside of Worms in Neuschloss, as my husband was stationed in Mannheim, and we renewed our friendship. It was wonderful to have s friend from home while we were over seas during that year- our first year of marriage. Then, in about 1978 Veronica's mom died and she closed up the home and moved back here and actually moved right down the street from where we used to live and we were neighbors.
Veronica loves beautiful things and her collections run the gambit of all the beautiful collectibles, Germany has to offer---clocks, music boxes, Hummels, as well as many, many other figurines I cannot begin to name. But she has 3 huge curios full of treasures. When she came back in 1978 she brought a treasure to me! This beautiful Dresden lady! Photobucket. She is so delicate. I sort of pride myself for keeping her safe all these years! I will always remember dear Veronica and Vyto, everytime I glance the Pink Lady's way! Just as precious as the PL is and always will be so, too, are our dear dear, friends of fifty years!!

Summer Swap

Photobucket

How exciting to get to share today what we received in the Summer Swap. First of all, I want to thank Peggy so much for her wonderful idea to have this swap. I had such a fun time thinking about, shopping for, and preparing for my items! It was one of my favorite pastimes this summer, really! I was so excited when I went to the mail this past Tuesday and found a mailer from another state addressed to me with the sweet words that have come to mean so much to… Summer Swap! I left it propped up on the counter in the sun room for the first day, just wondering what it might contain! The suspense became maddening…. and so then I opened it up!

Photobucket My excitement continued to build as I unwrapped the three tissue- paper wrapped treasures!

Photobucket

I want to continue to build the suspense, because, I just love these kind of surprises, and I don’t want it to be over so quickly!

Drumroll, please …or how about a rock and roll band?

Photobucket

Ta-Dah!

1) The notepad is really beautiful. It contains one of my favorite and most powerful scriptures! Which, also, goes along with my main themes in life: The armor of God! The verse, “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in Your Word!”
2) The bar of soap is adorable. Mary Engelbrett really does things up nicely! Life is a chair of bowlies!

3) My favorite: A beautiful gift book entitled Sweet Rose of Friendship..
So shall a friendship
Fill each heart
With perfume
Sweet as roses are,
That even though
We be apart,
We’ll scent the
Fragrance from afar.
Georgia McCoy
My heart felt rosy thanks to Peggy, my swap partner, for these sweet jewels of friendship as well as hosting this fine summer swap!I'm looking forward to the autumn swap. now!!
